The BEST Subsonic Client
So far, this is the only client I have found (and I have tried MANY) that consistently works exactly how I expect it to. No gaps between tracks, no issues when scrolling around intra-track, and no extra fluff functionality. Everything just works. Do yourself a favor and skip the other apps and just get this one if you’re looking for a Subsonic/Navidrome compatible app!
Background playing issues? Really?
Ok, I have tried substreamer, Amperfy, they are free and have their own pros and cons. I think of trying paid one maybe have better optimization although the UI is not that good. But it turns out I am facing the biggest issue even when I try these players. It will always stopped playing after go to background in about 1-2 minutes. And I’ve tried to reach out it’s 5 stars service also no response😂so anyone can help me?
Possibly the best music streamer on IOS
It does have some bugs, crashes and imperfections. But I am more than satisfied with this app, it offers most of the functionality of modern music apps. I am missing only a few things: 1. Live lyrics - where you see timed lyrics from .lrc files 2. Music suggestions. (not just random music) When you have a big library and you want to have 1 click option to just turn on music that will be perfectly shuffled. But I see limitations here since most of the time, needed metadata doesn’t exist. 3. Maybe a little simpler interface or some option to simplify it, I want to see a few clean big buttons and nothing else.
Terrible UX and UI
As the title says. For this reason it’s clunky. But this app was one that worked compared to many. Too bad i couldn’t try it first.
Very janky UX
I really wanted to like this app, it plays music from the server well, but the UX is really not good. As far as I can tell there’s no way to permanently download music, navigating the app is very counterintuitive.
Great app that has replaced spotify
This app has been great to stream my audio collection from a NextCloud instance in my home, completely replacing spotify.
App crash
The app will crash when playing songs. The CPU usage is too high and the system terminate it. It should be a memory leak. It cannot be used normally. I have sent three emails and have not received a reply.
Good app, newest update (12/2025) needs tweaking
EDIT: The quick navigation letters were re-added in the latest update (01.10.2026). Thank you very much. Good app, been using it for years and it has done me well for the most part. Had some issues in the past with pretty consistent crashing due (I assume) to my phone running hot, but I chalked that up to my phone being older. Been fine lately in that regard. That said, I recently started getting crashes when clicking on ‘Recently Added’. Every time. Uninstalling/reinstalling fixes it for a minute, then right back to crashing. No idea what that’s about, but not the biggest deal. My main issue is this new update took away the letters on the side of the screen for quick navigation. This is bad for me because I have a big library, and now have to just scroll instead of going to a specific spot. Hopefully that can get re-added.
Won’t Stay Up to Date
I love the app. Love the options and customization. Can’t recommend it though bc it won’t remove albums that have been removed from the underlying database.
Bad UX
Honestly, you can tell that UX is not the strong point with this application. For example, if you want to change your queue “play next” does what you expect, but “add to queue” doesn’t add the song right after that, instead it goes to the very bottom of the long randomly generated queue of shuffle. And if you want to remove a song from the queue then you have to open the queue, click the pencil to edit, click the minus next to the song, then confirm delete.
Best $5 I have spent in ages
This app is amazing. It integrated easily with my home Navidrome server and it just works. It even outputs to my Sonos speakers - it just finds them. (Unlike the Sonos app which regularly loses connection to its own hardware). Highly recommended.

Night and day over the two other apps I had been using to stream music from my Airsonic server. Would be nice if the equalizer could be adjusted from the “now playing” screen as opposed to having to back out to the Equalizer Presets in the Settings menu.
Broken CarPlay
I really like the app and the overall functionality. But CarPlay felt already broken when I bought the app in July 2025. Selecting the third tab (in my case Albums) while using the CarPlay interface would always stop the playback and crash the app. With iOS 26 the menu aside from start/stop or skip quite often becomes unresponsive so that the current playback cannot be change. An update with fixes would be nice.
Lots of niche issues.
Playback is still more stable than modern apps such as Arpeggi or Narjo, but it’s quite buggy in iOS 26: - UI becoming unresponsive sometimes - random playing an album or a list would always skip first track - etc.
“Silence!!”
Although at first I could not remember exactly it was not exactly what I had suspected, thank the Big Man up stairs!! I had needed the username to restart the app, I in desperation communicated with my brother in law and retrieved itself. Restarting the app was then simple, and once again I had had my own personal music!! play:Sub Music Streamer has improved my Individual personal ability to enjoy my personal music with my cellular phone…although I have been through five pairs of Apple AirPods.(generation1, generation 2, generation 3).!! You’re the best man, I swear!

lowered to one star search for a track, app crashes dev took my money, doesn’t respond abandonware buy at your own risk … When it works it is delightful It is plagued with subtle problems, many stemming from its insistence on maintaining its own version of your music database, which it handles poorly I have a high performance server, Y U try to duplicate it? Library desyncs, “latest music” screwy in a way no other client displays, etc Songs refuse to play because caching logic gets confused Most annoying of all, UI thread seems to share database sync - app freezes for tens of seconds at a time when server side has changed
Good, but
Lacks an essential feature for all apps in 2025: automatic switching between light and dark based on system theme. Instead, the theme is bizarrely coupled to screen brightness.
HiRes lossless music?
It's a nice player but it's promising hires lossless music without transcoding while in practice no matter if i play 44.1KHz mp3, 96KHz flac or DSD file the DAC always display PCM with default sampling rate of 48KHz. Prefered sampling rate can be changed to up to 192KHz but it will be always 192 then even for content with lower sampling and in next app launch it will play again with default 48KHz regardless that in the settings it is set to other value. I'd expect player to play bitperfect when losless no transcoding mode is enabled and change bit rate and sampling rate per each track to correct values like Apple Music does.
Car Play navigation is weak
While the iOS app is great, the experience while driving via the CarPlay interface STINKS! It is lacking the most basic of functionality such as being able to browse by genre (which the iOS app has). So, while driving, I’m stuck listening to a handful of random songs that play:Sub chooses, or having to pull over and browse by folder. Guess I’ll have to hope the devs improve the CarPlay interface or I’ll have to find an alternative
Only fully functional navidrome client for iOS
I have tried every available navidrome client for iOS and this is the only one that could reliably download my 50k song library transcoded using server-defined codecs.
Major Issues
I had high hopes for this app. But there’s a serious playback issue where the player rapidly cycles between shuffle, repeat, and repeat all. Almost like the buttons are pressing themselves over and over again. This results in songs repeating themselves or shuffling when not desired. Renders the app basically unusable.

I love the app and having the option to play my own music off my own server. I love the features. One problem I noticed: the app crashes every time i try to make a new playlist / add a song from the song menu. Great otherwise so far. One wish— writing idv3 tags to my files (if that’s even possible)!
Make it Easier for making playlists!
It is so tedious making a playlist! There should be a feature to select multiple songs and add them to a playlist instead of going through artists/albums/individual songs to add one by one
Apple carplay issues
This app would be perfect if this issue is resolved with carplay, When selecting a folder then a song you have to choose two songs further down in order to get the one you want to play.
Great app
One complaint though. When I select all artists, it shows a lot of artists with 0 albums. Then if I click on those artists I can really do anything with them. I would prefer only showing the Album artists in this lists. Or at least having the ability to do that via a setting.
Perfect except for 1 big bug
It's impossible to add a 2nd server or edit an existing one because the Server Setup form disappears when you touch any of the text input fields. I will request a refund if this isn't fixed which is a shame because the app is perfect otherwise.

Great player, would be even better if it had a proper parametric EQ. There is a gap in the market where no subsonic ios client has a good parametric EQ.
nice app. wish it worked with watch
app is nice, good navidrome frontend. main issue is id like it to stream to my watch app over cell network, untethered to my phone. so i can workout without carrying my phone with me. also think it needs some work with downloads / caching. sometimes my albums disappear? or get evicted from the cache?
CarPlay broken?
I’ve used play:sub for several years as stand alone and for its CarPlay abilities and it has proven awesome and reliable. Since recent app/iOS updates CarPlay seems to be broken. I can see artist lists but no files to play. Very frustrating. The app is useless for my needs without full CarPlay support. I’m running ios17 and the latest play:sub version with Navadrome server.
Best subsonic client on iOS
Only client I can find that has CarPlay support. Artists and albums are not loading in but honestly it’s still huge steps ahead of other apps
No Car Play
worked with CarPlay for three days, but no longer works with CarPlay works fine on my iPhone.
CarPlay keeps crashing when tap on car screen menu
As the title says. Music seems to play when I tap on “play something for me”. But if I want to tap on tabs at the main screen, namely, album, playlist, etc, the whole thing crashs. However despite the bug, this is the only app that I found can play music without hiccups with my navidrome server. Yes I have tried other free players support subsonic protocol. So please keep up the good work and continue fixing bugs.
License expired
Hello My app now says my server is unreachable and in the settings it says server license expired. What do I do?

Insane that the latest release note says it finally supports repeat-1 in 2023. I just bought couple days ago. So I got that. But even the basic local download doesn’t work! It shows all files in the album got downloaded but if I switch to offline mode it shows only 1. Reached out to the dev on day 1 of the purchase and never heard back! My Amerfy is working perfectly but I was thinking paying money will get me something better. I guess not.
Love this app except…
This app is so well thought out and customizable exactly to my liking… except when I get out of a CarPlay vehicle, it stops and then resumes on my phone on speakerphone… I never ever want to hear music in this way. AppleTV support would be awesome too

Latest version lets you disable a feature rather than fixing it
I’ve contacted the developer through the preferred method multiple times about an issue that prevents playing the same track twice. It’s not just me since I see other people mentioning the same issue in other reviews. The latest version allows disabling the resume point menu, which is the source of the problem. I don’t understand why the developer made an option to disable the feature rather than fixing the glitch with it. I guess it’s better than nothing because the app was completely broken for me before this update.
Best player for iOS
I’ve tried the other players and this one is definitely the best. I’m knocking a star because it does not work with CarPlay. It will not sure my albums or songs, which means I have to use my phone while I’m driving, which entirely defeats the purpose

Die App ist gut. Seit einiger Zeit kommt immer Download fehlgeschlagen. Das erste Lied geht fast immer, wenn man die Lieder danach auswählt laufe Sie nicht. Habe die Kostenlose App substreamer und habe nie damit Probleme gehabt. Natürlich ist diese hier App besser. Der Download eines Liedes sollte nach einigen Sekunden starten. Nextcloud Musik zurückgesetzt auf meinem Server. Medien erneut laden und Reload Server Media ausgeführt. Audio und Bildspeicher gelöscht.Danach sind alle Alben immer noch vorhanden aber ohne Bild.Deshalb jetzt nur 2 Sterne. Iphone 13 pro
Good but still buggy
Using it on my iPhone 14 Pro and iPad m1 11”. I still can’t choose an icon on my iPad (works on the iPhone). Taping any other icon does not select it. Some song titles are truncated. It’s been like that since I purchased the app years ago. Contacted the developer a long time ago and he said that I’ve hit a very old bug. Well, how about fixing it. It’s been years. I’m using it with Navidrome running in a Docker container.

Cannot connect to server
Won't connect to my Subsonic server over SSL. No way to contact developer to report the issue. Shame as I really thought this might be an improvement over iSub, for which development seems to have died out.
No “show all songs” option
The app is the best for navidrome/subsonic out there.. but it doesn’t have a show all songs options, just random/favorites/recent Would be good to have an option to just show everything I have Edit: can you add support for non western alphabets? Like on the right side, songs in any other alphabet other than Latin appears as 2 Ä ó or whatever, instead of the right letter Just so it recognises the first letter of the song and put them on the list, so that way it shows regardless of the alphabet at the end of the Latin one (like plexamp does?)
No playlist support
App works great and has a slick UI, but tragically doesn't support playlists. Seriously?! I would give it 5 stars but without playlists it’s basically useless for me. Hopefully will be added in the future.
