Excellent in most situations
I find this a great little tool but lacking in some areas of eq and facilities. Really good but room for improvement.
Where are the presets?
The Shure MV88 manual talks about all these useful presets but with the mic connected the app shows exactly zero presets.
Issues after update
This was my go to app but since the last update there’s no way to make changes to multiple files simultaneously.

This app used to be blind accessible. How do you monitor the recordings with headphones? Would it ever be possible to record in stereo for 5.1 with the iPhaveo mics and be able to monitor it through headphones? Is there a way you can also record with your stereo microphones on the iPhone instead of mono recordings? Thanks!

Newest update crashes after being open for more than 5 minutes. If this can please be fixed if possible!!

ALL FILES WERE LOST
Beware!! I was listening to a playback recording when my phone battery died. Plugged my phone in, and upon restarting, I found that 4 years of recordings were gone from the App Library. The backup file on my iPhone storage is also empty. Contacted customer support and they claim they never heard of this before and there’s nothing they can do. No other functions of the phone are affected. All my work is gone. I thought the backup file protected me from the app failure. I was wrong. It’s like mourning a death…. No hep from tech support - on condolences.
Love The Shure App
Just purchased the MV88 USBc version to replace my older MV88 Lightning Connective one. Using Voiceover, the native screen reader for IOS. All is pretty accessible but, does just need a tidy up. Not enough to down rate the app at this stage but, like I say, could do with a bit of an accessibility Spring clean. I’m sure there are a number of us who would be happy to be beta testers of the app to help keep things on an access track we have become accustomed to with Shure.
Watch app gone - deprecated functionality
My review on May 28 was confirmed via communication with Shure Support several days later: “Unfortunately, as of the most recent update to the MOTIV application, functionality for the Apple Watch has been discontinued. I apologize for the inconvenience.” As a full-time session musician, this extremely limits my use cases for this hardware & software pairing. Being able to remotely trigger the start & stop of a recording was immeasurably useful. Without WatchOS support, a 5-star app is now a 2-star app. I’ll give it those 2 stars for the recording & editing interfaces, which have always served me well. But the fact that Shure chose to kneecap the functionality of this app is inexcusable.
Volume resets sometimes
I just spent an hour figuring out why the input monitoring through my headphones was so low volume all of a sudden. I deleted the app and reinstalled and still the same. I ended up having to connect to my Mac and the volume was all the way down. That’s why I rated it 3 stars, otherwise it’s great. Fix this guys!
An amazing audio recording upgrade
I’ve been recording practice sessions (acoustic guitar, various singing styles) with my phone mic for years and have figured out a few tricks to make recordings sound better. However, I just found out about the gen 2 MVX2U and picked one up to connect my mic (Shure KSM8) to my phone, and I’m stunned by the difference - it literally sounds like I’m recording in a studio now. The only feature that feels “missing” is a nice warm reverb option, that would make this app ‘perfect’ in my opinion. Thank you guys so much! 🎶
Mangled audio
Why would you even release this version of the app?! Recorded audio is mangled making it completely useless for the 1 thing it’s supposed to do. Thanks for wasting my time recording only to find out it was pointless!
Good app, no stereo
This app is very well designed and is easy to use. But I do find it baffling that in 2036 it still has either mic selection from the iPhone array, or even the ability to record in stereo.
Glitchy & Needs Better Editing Ability
I use this app with the microphone you’re supposed to use with it. While I seem to be able to use the settings that I want on the microphone and save them for use with other apps, using this app for recording does not work. It has decent sound quality, but a lack of capabilities needed for more professional recordings. The recordings skip ahead frequently and phone goes to sleep during recording. You can’t go back and record over part of a track if you make a mistake—you have to start over with a new recording.

The only reason I did not get five stars is because when it gives a transfer button and doesn’t transfer it just takes you to the app and I really needed that transfer button so that’s why I didn’t get five stars
This app works amazing, Only 2 Options.
Hello Developer, I would like to say, that this audio recording app works amazing. There are 2 options that needs to be changed. when recording, it should rename pause, and resume. If saving a recording, it should rename stop. I’m thankful that this app is accessible with VoiceOver screen reader. Again, this audio recording app works excellent, and I give 5 stars.

Can’t activate account
Made one stupid mistake during the sign-up process and now I can activate my account (exited the registration page after signing up but before entering code from email, or something like that). Really, the site should be set up so that it shouldn’t matter. Reached out to Shure two weeks ago and nobody has gotten back to me. Unbelievable.
Bluetooth headphones not allowing me to monitor
I’ve been using this app for years but just updated to iOS 26. I can’t get the Motiv app to allow audio to connect with my Bluetooth headphones anymore. They are paired with device etc but greyed out in motiv and not passing audio

Overall very good
This app works pretty well and provides lots of options for adjusting the microphone. It does hang up from time to time, which is frustrating. Also, I don't like it when the "write a review" prompt pops up when I'm in the middle of saving a recording.
MP3 (to be added as option for audio conversion)
The app does not have option to convert audio to MP3 and to the list of audio converters in the app and should be added to make it easier to share files recorded social media and other platforms. It’s highly frustrating to record from such a good microphone source and app but fails to have such option. Please add MP3 to the option. Thanks.

You may need to update the microphone firmware before it works over USB-C
Just bought an MV88+ and try as I might it wouldn’t be recognised by my iPhone 15 or iPad Air, just seen as a headset (both use USB-C). Out of desperation I used the lightning lead on an older iPad Pro and it was recognised straightaway and informed me that the MV88+ needed a firmware update. This was undertaken and it was then immediately recognised on the USB-C devices. Without access to a lightning interfaced device I would have been stumped. 🤔
Decent for recording but audio is glitchy and choppy
When recording the app the audio is sometimes crackly and cuts in and out. Not sure why this is happening
Update ruined it
I’ve been using this app since November 2024. It wasn’t perfect before, but it was a solid app. But since the update it’s close to unusable for listening to the recording. When you open or close the app the playback starts over. Infuriating. I have 3 stars because of how useful it used to be. Current version is 1/5.

What happened to the apple watch app?
I use this all the time on my apple watch with the app on my phone. But the app has now disappeared from my apple ultra watch. I've tried a reset, to no avail. I bought the shure hardware a week. Because I can hit pauss/resume etc.. When recording from my watch. Now I can't?
what i was looking for
no in-app purchases or "pro" version and minimal tracking! those features are surprisingly hard to find for even a simple audio recording app.
Recording Blips
Sometimes the very first recording only contains blips every half-second for the entirety of the audio. Don't know how to fix, and I wish I didn't have to worry about the app messing up prior to recording. I think it's worth switching to something else more reliable.
Only missing a reverb slider
Great app that allows total control over the share MOTIV range of microphones. I feel it would benefit from a reverb slider as well for the musicians out there who like a bit of ambience when recording.

why can’t I change the audio setting within this app? It kinda seems pointless to have if I can’t actually affect the mic with the setting I punch in. all it says is “preview” and “learn more” is there a way to actually use the settings in this app to apply to the shure mic?

Expect more from Shure, less ads, more usability, better tweaking of Mic performance when it frequently distorts on iOS.

Nice App! The only feature I would like is an ‘upside down’ portrait view so that the app can be used with my phone upside down on a music stand with the cable coming out the top.
Underwhelmed
I bought my MV88 specifically to record live bands. The VU meters in this app clearly indicate that it is not clipping yet the recording sounds clipped. I have yet to manage to get a live recording of a band that sounds better than the iPhone built-in mic. For medium to low volume sounds it works well, but otherwise I am dissatisfied. And why is there no facility to save named user presets?
