Has no match
Works well for high alpine hiking & chasing powder. There is no match to this app.
AI Sellouts
Use to love this app until they started adding AI modeling and summaries that nobody asked for. Not to mention the forecasts beyond 5 days are a total fugazi. Yet another unserious company riding the hype train that's going to be the ruin of us all
CLEAN, ACCURATE, EASY
I enjoy using the Open Snow App for its ease and efficiency of tracking weather during the summer and winter at various locations. It’s easy with one glance to get a gist of idea and then with one click, go into more depth. What I like is that if I want more info, I can get it, but it’s easy to give it a quick look. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is that my particular location sits in a weird place and it’s not super accurate… but nothing seems to be.
Bait and switcharoo with “All Access”
I enjoyed using OpenSnow and appreciated its pricing model for the All-Access subscription. However, OpenSnow cancelled the All-Access subscription and changed subscribers to their Base subscription and introduced a higher subscription, Premium. I didn’t appreciate being baited and switched to a subscription that was no longer fitting of the original name, so I have stopped subscribing to OpenSnow and use free alternatives now.
Meh
Moderate accuracy 60% of the time, wildly inaccurate 40%. Example: wolfcreek got 17” today (1APR26), open snow says 5”. Like i said: wildly inaccurate.
Lots of great layers!
Highly recommended for weather nerds... would like to see realtime AQI from purple air added to the widget and in the favorites list. A wind direction layer from the windy app. would be cool with the little arrows. Would also like to see a high/low pressure layer. Other than that winter can't come soon enough!! Thanks for the great UI. Cheers Bob
Used to be my favorite app
We’ve had the family plan since open snow first rolled it out and it was great. Slowly migrating all of the useful features away from something we were paying $90 a year for into something they want us to pay $180 a year for feels slimy and scammy. Especially when most of the map layers are re-skinned NWS products, and someone decided a few weeks ago to give the radar legend the most ugly and useless UI in the history of meteorology.
Great app, just…
few wishes: expected (total) snow depth (additionally to daily or total snowfall) + other units (e. g. knots for wind).
Alerts
What is the point of the app I can’t get alerts for anything, at the top it says alerts and it’s crossed off and won’t let me turn it on
Great app! But overpriced.
If you got the money, go for it. Unfortunately there are a lot of free services that do similarly. Skipping.
My new favorite weather app
So much better detail and information. I’ll still use the other apps for Lightning strikes but I’m a total convert. Thank you
Not worth the price tag!
A very expensive service for very little accuracy. Forecasts showed sunshine at my place and yet it was snowing. The weather station that is less than a mile away and about 30ft lower than where I live shows temperatures that are consistently 4-5 degrees Celsius higher than OpenSnow. Customer service is not great, mostly very slow to answer any questions (about 3 days). Selling techniques are very misleadingly. Started with the free service, upgraded to the Base level with a 50% discount. Whilst on the Base service, they allow you to use the premium features for a little and then take this away. When trying to upgrade to premium, they claw back the 50% discount and charge you the full price of the premium level. In conclusion, this is a very expensive service which I don’t mind paying as long as you get a good service overall. In the case of OpenSnow, don’t bother! Definitely not worth it…
Love it but a bit expensive
Really revolutionary app, but struggle to justify a yearly subscription for the four/five months of skiing that we have!
No good in Europe
I decided to give the paid version a go for the past 12 months. My conclusion is that it’s not very useful in Europe. Europe is really an afterthought. Perhaps more effort goes into the American mountains. ie, There is only one “Daily Snow” for all of Europe. While the commentary is interesting it doesn’t break things down enough to get a feel for your local area. Also a number of feature simply don’t exist for the Alps - ie, some models, the links to snow cams are empty etc. Also, the forecast models seemed to present a very optimistic view of storm totals. Monitoring over the course of a season I found that apple weather was consistently more accurate. And the season snowfall totals are a fallacy. They seemed to be a total of the forecast rather than a measure of actual snowfall. ie, when the forecast was 50cm and the actual snowfall was closer to 15cm the 50cm is still added to the“actual” total. Finally and my reason for not renewing my subscription- they’ve done a Microsoft and introduced a premium paid tier. I’m out.
Forecast
Best for forecasting current weather conditions.
Terrible User interface
Genuinely one of the worst weather apps. Terrible clunky UI. Surprisingly difficult to find basic weather data over the next 24 hours. And the layout just makes no sense and is intentionally confusing. This app has a long way to go …
Very good
Works very well and covers a lot of ski resorts. 👍
Not worth it for Europe
Its a great app but it‘s way too US-centric to recommend to Europeans. For example, bigger resorts in the US have their own snow reports. Meanwhile, Europe has just one snow report Full stop. Meaning, if you care about eastern Alps in Austria, you get the same report for the Pyrenees on the other side of the subcontinent. It goes on with missing data maps like HQ precipitation maps, forecast maps, not even a temperature map is available outside the US. You can filter for season passes. Great! You can access resort webcams directly in-app, Great! As long as you’re skiing in the US, of course. It’s a bummer, but this app is seriously lacking outside of their Home Country. Can’t recommend no matter the price.
Primary App for both General Weather and Ski Resorts
I have used this app for 2 years and will continue to use. The app is very useful for forward planning.
Useless
Useless. There are many free alternatives that are batter than this.
Please update for iPhone X
Very happy with the content and functionality but PLEASE update the layout for iPhone X.
Over optimistic snow forecast?
I live in Australia going to ski in Europe March 2024. We are two weeks away from our trip and I see that the app is overly optimistic when it comes to the predicted amount of snow and or accumulated snow overnight. I hope that I’m wrong!
Outstanding!
This is such an informative website. I enjoy both it’s in depth and the current information. When one wants to know the weather-ANYWHERE- this is the site!
Still not current
The app still doesn’t have updated mountain real information I.e % of runs open and more issues....
Not very useful
Limited forecasts, assumes you live in the US and you have to go into settings to make the units and formatting work. This should be part of a setup wizard I hate US built apps with no awareness that there’s a world outside that bubble. Season passes are missing mountains (Hutt isn’t on mountain collective for example). The UI looks ok. But without paying for a subscription it doesn’t really deliver anything that google won’t give you for free.
Really good wx app!
So much more than just snow; lots of choices to view different weather types. Simple, clean graphics. Smart user interface!
US only
Says it covers Europe, but when I try to register I need a US ZIP Code. When I checked some European resorts the data was woefully out of date and inaccurate. Useless
Australian and New Zealand ski resorts are missing
App not of any use to me without this unfortunately
My Go To Weather App
Open Snow has become outstanding. I don't even look at anything else anymore. You guys seem to have thought of everything. The information is spot on. I'm still learning all the nuances, but the more I use it the more impressed I become. Thx!
In App upgrade gives you nothing more
I tried this app for the first time this season, but was immediately a little frustrated only getting 3 days forecast. I decided to upgrade, figuring the only thing it could expand was the length of forecast, but not only does it not do that, I’ve been unable to find anything at all that I get for my $18. Total rip off
Info dense
The detail and depth of this app is unsurpassed. Raw NOAA forecasts may be the only deeper source.
Reliable
Accurate forecasts for the areas I choose
