What people like
- It is completely free to use
- Helps you find safer ingredients easily
- Links directly to Amazon for buying
What they complain about
- Most products you scan are not found

Everything you need in one place
Perfect for first time parents or parents in general when searching for the safest and cleanest products for your baby
Glitchy
When submitting new products it doesn’t work. It keeps saying retry, no feedback.
A few recommendations
I do love this app however I do have a few recommendations to implement into the app to make it even better • Manual barcode entry (sometimes I’m searching online and want to know about a product that isn’t in the database yet) • Specific ingredient filters, not just broad categories. For example, I would like to filter out products that have phenoxyethanol or sodium laureth sulfate specifically. • More broad filter options, like the ability to filter out or prioritize ingredients that aren’t/are malassezia safe. • Still show the ingredient ratings for EWG Verified products. The ones verified just show as a list and you have to tap them to figure out their score.
Fragrance approved?
Why are products like Attitude being approved when they have fragrance listed in their ingredient list??
Stop with the pop ups!
I love this app but the amount of times a pop up appears upon me opening the app is crazy. I barely start to type in the product I’m searching for and a new box appears. Chill, we love you and we are using you to make our lives healthier. Cut back on the interruptions while we do this, please!
Fantastic app
Love this app and turn to it with every purchase
Terrible
Cannot click on a product to see rating and ingredients . It used to be a good app . Sent email asking why and of course no one responds . So frustrating. Time to look for another app .
Great info
Can look for brands, high or low ratings. Did not find a few items but pretty complete enough to choose healthy foods.
Canadians, don’t bother
Not sure why this app is available to download in Canada—if it doesn’t work on any of the products here. Bummer, seems like a cool app nonetheless.
Love the idea
Most products I scan cannot be found. A few can be found if I physically type it in , but the app needs a lot of work and information input.
Best lifestyle resource
This is my go to app to find the safest products, PERIOD!
So many bugs
Love this app (in theory) but it doesn’t work well. Can’t click on a product after searching, no filters in the lists
Good app
Has a lot of good info, most the things I’ve scanned aren’t in their system so I’ve had to enter them in myself which is a bit annoying. Other than that, this app is great and incredibly informative!
Not so Canada friendly
None of the products I scan come up… I’m assuming it’s cause I’m in Canada and it’s US based. Because I find the products when I search, but it’s more annoying to search when I’m looking for a specific scent, flavour, ect., of a product. I like that it’s free to search thought.
Still a ways to go
I tried one day of premium and decided I can’t warrant the cost. This app has phenomenal potential and critical information, but it has a long ways to go until it will be truly meaningful for me. Out of the ten common items I scanned in my house, one was in the database. I’m happy to help build the database, but I’m not going to pay to do the work myself 😅 Really looking forward to future iterations because this could be my go-to resource.
Excellent Resource
EWG is an excellent resource to verify brand claims and explore ingredients. It has helped us find the best products for ourselves and our kids for many years.
Scam. They want $15 for nothing
Asking for pay me donation for free application. No any good and useful product information.
Wish there were half stars…
I’ve been using this app for about a decade and the recent upgrades are appreciated!…I love that EWG not only rates for human health, but also dangers to the environment so I can factor that in to my decision-making… there are products not in here, of course but that isn’t the app, that’s an issue with how many products are out there and there being only so much time to review and add stuff, but you can suggest items and there’s already a large number of products. If you see that all the XYZ products by a brand have a certain rating you can look to see what they have in common and check to see if the item you were hoping to find has the same ingredients and make an educated guess…. I would appreciate the filters being a drop-down so I can search easier (particularly brands) and some extra filters (like to filter and/or sort by fragrance or ingredient), but I may one of the few who would want that…unfortunately, there are a lot of dupes of products and sometimes the formulation year is noted in an obvious place, but otherwise you have to go in to the product to scroll down to see when that product was most recently available to get an idea for which formulation you have. I don’t know if this would be app design, people responsible for updates or just better need for oversight. It’s DEFINITELY not a deal breaker (yeah, I use the free version), but would make my searches easier and less time consuming
No response after trying to reset my password to access my account for the past 1.5 years
I was regularly using the EWG app for several years and recommend it to many. Until about two years ago when I was signed out of my account and I requested my password reset multiple times but the reset link doesn’t function properly. I need to access all of the information in my app and cannot. I really do hope that I can update my review to say that I received an effective response but right now, I can only say the app and EWG’s public facing customer relations is very unreliable and unresponsive.
Missing 2 things
It would be great if it would show prices for products and allow me to copy and paste ingredients from an item I’m interested in purchasing online and have it analyze the list for harmful ingredients instead of requiring me to physically scan the item
Trusting tool
Every single item I need to buy or replace with something healthy I use this app to verify the quality. I trust this app. Unlike yuka
On line works BETTER than the App.
Not able to click on or expand, or open drop down menu explaining what is hazardous when you ARE SIGNED in to app!! Can’t create a list either way.
I like this app
It’s pretty accurate, easy to use, have only come across a few products that weren’t there but they were rare anyway so overall a nice app. I would get it and it’s free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can’t search ingredients
Pretty much everything I scan (every day products) is not registered and it won’t even let you look up specific ingredients to see what the score is. Good in context but does not deliver.
Always jamming on my iPhone15
Can’t select products intermittently. Very annoying. Also concerned about positive bias towards products giving them better commissions. Some recommended products have carcinogens in them. Rare products not recommended for not much reason.
Revealing
I think something is so healthy from basic labels or it says organic. It may not be true at all. Very eye opening!
Has barely any products on it
I use this for skin and body care, but 9/10 times I look something up or scan it it’s not on the app. So in other words this app is completely useless. Why even develop something that doesn’t even do the one thing that it’s meant to do? I just don’t understand.
Rating for wealthy living
The concept of this app is very smart and useful and they represented that concept perfectly. My only issue about it is that there was a problem with accessing my lists of all the products I put there maybe it’s just me or my phone but it might be something about the app.
Nothing I scan is recognized
I’ve been told EWG is better than Yuka. But almost nothing I scan or search is in their database.
Wish it worked better
Clicking on products only works some of the time, this could be a great app I’d use often if it worked.
Favorite app
No subscription required! Just hard truth! Love this app
Great info- terrible app
Unfortunately, the search feature is terrible. I type MAC and get no results. 🙁 But the information is amazing.
Fragrance/Perfume should have a more serious warning
I disagree with the rating of synthetic fragrance on this review site. EWG he’s not highlighting the fact that there are mystery ingredients in synthetic fragrances. These mystery ingredients include formaldehyde, styrene, parabens, phthalates, synthetic musks and the list goes on. These ingredients are in fact dangerous to humans when exposed on a regular basis, especially in self care products. They contain endocrine disruptors, which are directly linked to mental health issues like depression and ADHD. Endocrine disruptors also contribute to poor physical health. They can cause inflammation, cancers, and other auto immune disorders. The public trusts EWG as a source for choosing product, so I hope that this database puts a stronger rating on fragrance and perfumes.
Do not find what I’m looking for easily
Really!
Great concept but app doesn’t work well
Great concept but scan and search options don’t always work, even after closing and reopening the app
The scan option is so Easy!
Before I purchase anything body or personal care, I scan on the app to double check the rating. This app makes it so easy to make sure I’m not using anything harmful on my body.
Science backed… NO
This app is SO misleading. Some ingredients they claim are bad are in some of their top picks because surprise! They get bribed easily. Also Parabens are one of the few preservatives that we know are safe with long term safety data. The researcher who said it causes breast cancer was feeding rats their own body weight of parabens… of corse it’ll harm them. Dose makes the poison and no dose creates poisonous products infected with mold/viruses/bacteria ETC. Everyone was scared of parabens so they switched to the less researched phenoxyethanol (which is actually a pretty good preservative), now people are getting scared of that so we’ll probably be switching to a different preservative that’s even less researched and so on. I’ll take parabens and the 100+ year safety data.
Worth it
Sure there are probably a lot of brands that have not been reviewed, but checking the usual suspects for personal care (Garnier, L’Oreal, Aveeno, etc.) is good enough for my needs. I have begun switching to Attitude Living products with the help of this app.
EWG App
I love the idea of the app but find that so many things I’m searching, are not in the app. Especially Canadian products and lines.
Does not show critical chemical in toothpaste
a nice app but i found it odd that the analysis of Colgate Total toothpaste does not show the banned chemical triclosan.
Great app
Great app! Highly recommend it!
Doesn’t recognize most products
Too bad it doesn’t recognize most products.
Time consuming with no results
Great idea however every time I scan a bar code it is never found. I need to take pictures submit and rarely is there a rating.
I love it so much BUT
But is missing a few product .....it really good anyways you can see all the ingredients ,the quantity ,if these is ok or it toxic. So I can tell that I love it , I like I know what I put on my face .
Use it all the time
I use this for hair products and whatever else I can think of and ot hasn’t failed me yet. I love that it gives you the link on amazon to buy.
Does scan products
Never worked
Need more search options
I would like the ability to look up single ingredients
