Fun!
Super fun to play
Stuck at 14.29
Can’t play won’t pay for arcade
Fun Game, but steep learning Curve
Haven’t really played Civ, since Civ 4 I believe. It is fun, however learning curve can be quite difficult for some to overcome. Touch screen controls can be annoying as well. There is fun to be had though if willing to learn the game, and understand all the mechanics. Just going to take awhile.
Great game, full of iOS bugs
The gameplay of Civ 7 is great on desktop, but the iOS version is full of bugs as of the most recent update that make it almost unplayable.
No cloud save support?
Come on. I don’t know if you’re aware of this but some of us do have non-Apple devices we like to play our games on from time to time.
Amazing game. Still has bugs but enjoyable nonetheless
Huge fan. Loved civ6. for anyone that hasn’t played these, it’s extremely addictive.
Enjoyed Until macOS / iPadOS cross play stopped working
Will update review if fixed.
Amazing game but one thing
I love this game so much but the camera is sometimes glitchy and pressing on units sometimes doesn’t work properly but everything else is perfect:)
Resolution bugs on M1 Max MBP
I’m using an M1 Max MacBook Pro, and downloaded this from the App Store. Compatibility says “works with M1 Mac”, and while that may be true, it’s not really playable on the M1 Mac. Any resolution greater than 1366x768 has to be played in portrait mode! The game recognizes the Apple M1 Max “GPU”, but resolutions are horribly limited. Works fine landscape on an iPhone 16, but not on a Mac - go figure!
New Update UI Kinda Sucks
The new menus after the Test of Time update are way too clunky and hard to navigate
Great game
Great game live to play it on the Mac
Games crushes
It’s absolutely impossible to play as game crashes quite often. Reloading the game is not helping as it immediately crashes again. The recent update hasn’t fixed the issue.
Bugs
I like the game but it’s missing resources icons and other things
YMMV, But Not For Me
There’s just way too many changes all at once from Civ 6 and prior incarnations, and in the end for me they just aren’t any fun. While the graphics, voice acting, and music are all still top notch, I miss all the things that made Civ 6 fun for me (earning great people, having workers to develop tiles, secret societies, the way religion works, etc); the change from barbarians to city states that are sometimes hostile unless you befriend them is annoying and forces you to jumpstart an army even if that’s not how you want to play; the wholesale civ changes between eras is BAD and the recent fix is only half-cooked at best (you can stay the same civilization between eras BUT you don’t get the bonuses of that civ until you’re in that civ’s “apex era”) - but you’re still forced to change buildings etc, city-states completely change, and the time between eras doesn’t give you enough time in my opinion to actually build anything up. It all just feels inconsequential and after trying a few different civs/situations for a few hours each, I concluded that I just wasn’t having ANY fun playing it; it felt like a chore. Maybe all those changes feels fun for you, and good if it does! But it’s not for me. I’ll go back to playing Civ 6.
Great port but out of date and locked behind monthly subscription
So the actual implementation here is excellent and deserves 5 stars. It’s even better than the Civ 6 port, runs great, looks beautiful, runs just like the PC version with one glaring caveat. It’s locked to an older version. On PC it’s had a major update that significantly improves many game features and UI. Now that I’ve played that version, going back to this one feels like a major downgrade and noticeably less enjoyable. It’s still a great game and I would only ding one star from an otherwise 5 star game and port. However the other significant downside to this is that it’s locked exclusively to Apple Arcade. Civilization 6 is available for direct purchase and so I had bought it outright because really that’s one of the 2 games in arcade that I was actually interested in playing long term. Now that 7 is on iPad I’d like to switch over and I’d love to do the same here and just buy outright to play when I want. Ultimately that exclusivity to a monthly subscription that I only want one game from (I’ve already bought the other 2) is why I took the other star off my rating. When either of these changes I will update my rating. For now I will just cancel arcade and try to play via steam remote play instead.
iOS 27
Update: has been fixed. Original: Was really fun until upgrading operating system. Crashes on quality graphics mode and some text/graphics do not load when I can run it on battery mode
Where did the icons go?
In the last update, all the icons that tell you what each building provides went away. Now you can see only that a particular building gives you say, +3 something, but not what. Also most of the leader icons on the setup vanished. Makes the game near unplayable.
Good for the most part..
Good game overall, runs smoothly with minimal bugs.. but the modern age stops at tanks and like 1960 era units.. and no helicopters or transport planes☹️
Unplayable
What is a five star but with the new update none of the graphics are coming through making it impossible to even pick a leader. It feels like a bug or something. This used to be my everyday game and now it’s unplayable
Could be better
If you’ve never played before, it’s really difficult to figure out how to play.
Just one more turn!
Runs great on my Air M4 , some compromises but it’s smooth and doesn’t have bugs. Addictive game, I hope there are expansions
Paying monthly for an incomplete version…
So, I’m supposed to be paying a monthly subscription to play a game that isn’t even kept up-to-date or feature complete? That’s not how subscriptions are supposed to work…
Underrated
Civ 7 might not be as good as civ 6 in the way of content or uniqueness but it is still a great game for a casual player like myself to play a civ game and have fun.
Crashes
I’d give this a higher rating, but unfortunately the game has become unplayable after my first session. It worked great the first time I played, but now the app crashes every time I try to load either a saved game or start a new one. I’ve seen similar reports from other iPhone 17 users experiencing the same issue. Please fix this! I’d love to keep playing because I really enjoyed the game when it was working.
Falling behind
This App Store version is falling significantly behind the latest version on Steam and elsewhere. Important changes are missing.
Music good
The music is good
Crashes
Locks up completely at 14.29% downloading high res assets. M5 iPad Pro. Good luck getting it to run…
New leaders
When we will see a new leaders like in PC???
Provide 60 frames
It's really hard to play without 60 frames. At that time, it was because there was no 60fps that I didn't play 60fps on the mobile terminal. As a result, 7 still didn't have 60fps. You have limited the device and even iPhone 15 can't play. These are high processors. It's okay if it doesn't get a 120fps. There is not even a 60fps. Now which mobile game is still 30fps?😠💢
Too much art, not enough game
Someone took game concepts too far into the realm of art and mechanics, and forgot that it’s a game. And I say this as a high school Social Studies teacher who has loved Civ since the original. I want to like this, but it’s places far too much emphasis on concept and design than game play.
5 star for now
Update (Sept' 2026): TEST OF TIME is finally out. I can't wait to play!!!! OMG. I'm so excited. Update (May 2026): No TEST OF TIME update. It released today. Lets go. If you don't update the game as soon as the huge massive update for the pc version, it will seriously affect the next rating I give. Is there any info on if this is happening?
Update broke the game
Was not a bad game when first released but the latest update broke it 😔
The best…until the end
Everything about this game works other than the pacing. The game seems to end in the modern era, and it seems to be in 1900. Which is odd for “winning” strategies like the space race. So…one of the vest civilization games, but it crashes and burns in the last 100 years
Broken
Doesn’t launch past first era and very bug-y
THE BUG
I cannot believe that I spend hours to develop my civilization but the military can just all disappear!
Peak gameplay
This game is already addicting and to play it get it on your phone is a must have.
Update ruined the game
Honestly, how do you push this out? It’s unplayable, been two weeks, and not a patch? WTH?
Love Civ!!!
Been a Civ fan since my early teens so I was excited when Civ 7 was coming out but no Apple TV game is disappointing. Also, I hope Vision Pro has the VR capabilities that Meta Quest will be getting.
Buggy!
While I love the franchise and the Mac support, the buggy game makes it not very enjoyable. Military Aid bug anyone?
Fun but……
Game is fun and just need a little more work, a few bugs. Sometimes I save and then just restart game and it fixs It for a while but about every 3 hrs I have to restart game
Needs to be updated!!!
My mobile game isnt showing certain icons (food, production, culture, happy, etc) please fix
Not sure this is worth it
So I waited a couple years to try this. Im not sure it’s worth it. Will probably go back to 6. I see there’s been a repair loop happening for years, and it’s still there in the arcade version, which makes it impossible to get ahead. Others have said it works with gold to repair things instantly but it does not. They remain broken on the next turn and your gold is gone. Maybe if they fixed issues it might be interesting.
Mid Game but cool its on iPad
Civ7 is honestly trash compared to Civ6 but having it included in Apple Arcade is awesome. It needs better support for Magic Keyboard and mouse tho. It’s really hard to tell what things do because it doesn’t have mouse-hover tooltips. Runs completely fine on my new iPad Air however it drains the battery fast (which is expected and normal for a game of this size).
By far, not the best
I’ve played most, if not all the different versions of Sid Meier’s Civilization and apart from Colonization, the arcade version isn’t all that great. It doesn’t follow the basic format, for one thing and it’s has way too much information to process. Essentially, you can only control one city (the capital), which isn’t all that great. Playing with a controller is pretty bad, too. I don’t recommend it. Stick with the “original” Civilization VII. It’s a much more enjoyable version.
Opens half the time
The game itself is good but it won’t actually boot up half the time . On an iPhone 16 pro
Nice Upgrade!
I liked the previous version just fine, but the update adds a lot to gameplay and is very well executed by the developer. No notes!
Broken
Stuck “building shaders” during start up and never loads.
Needs Mouse/Keyboard support on iPadOS.
It’s great to see Civ VII come to iOS and iPadOS finally, and as part of a subscription I already have. It’s the full-fat Civ experience and it runs perfectly on my iPad with Magic Keyboard. But, mouse/keyboard support is extremely lacklustre there. There are no mouse-over tooltips (have to hold click, simulating a long-press on the touch screen), WASD doesn’t scroll the map (have to click and drag, again simulating a touchscreen), etc. Even though my iPad is a couple of generations newer than my Mac, it plays better on the Mac due to the fully featured keyboard and mouse support. If the iPad version fixed these couple of things it’d be perfect.
Missing Support for New iPads
I can’t believe this game doesn’t support the new iPad’s. It’s kind of disappointing.
Difficult to play.
Even at the easiest game setting, enemies swarmed my capital with 6 units and destroyed me within 15 minutes of playing. P.S. It took me five minutes to get to “turn 2” because I couldn’t figure out how to go to the next turn. P.S. My scouts and boats can’t explore the land because I keep getting injured by barbarian units. Even so, I’m hopeful that this game will be playable.
