What people like
- Fun and challenging word puzzles to solve
- Great alternative if you like NYT Strands
- Helpful hints when you get stuck on words
What they complain about
- Ads block the bottom letters so you can't play
- Phone gets very hot and battery drains fast
- Game crashes often and loses your progress
Love it
I love it so much I recently got this app and I’ve been on it every day and I’ve got to 250 puzzles solved it les than a month . Also it is really easy and hard on the puzzles. I think every one who sees this review should download the app and try it.
I just want to play
I downloaded and want to play and it keeps drawing the words for me. I know how to play the game. I don’t need it drawing the first few worlds of every puzzle. I guess this is Strings for Dummies or something. Ridiculous I can’t simply play a game.
Good
Good. Love it. Great replacement for strands in NYT.
Cannot see bottom line due to the ad
Unfortunately, once the ad pops up, the hint and watch button is covering the bottom line which makes it very difficult to play. I had to delete the app because of it.
Ads make it unplayable
The game is good, I like the NYT games. What made me type this title is that on the bottom of the screen there is an ad that blocks me from touching the letters. Please fix this, maybe put it at the top or make the letter board smaller.
Great for the brain
Very fun
Ads just to play a game!
You have to watch an ad to play any game. It’s nonsense. Do better!
lol I love it but copying NYT games
Ugh
Can’t see the bottom row
Looks like a great game but there’s over lapping text on the bottom row, can’t play it :(
Game is good for a while...
I liked the game, it performed well on my Ipad, but after I played around 200 games, it just starts recycling old ones with different titles.
I love it
It’s one of the best word games I’ve ever played. The only bad thing is the ads.
In appropriate advert
The game is marketed for a 4+ age and up. My son enjoys word games from time to time and we downloaded strings. The second time he used it an inappropriate AI advert came up of a woman In underwear lying on a bed with her legs open.
Addicting
So fun
Horrific Battery Drainage
Makes my phone hot after minimal usage. Actually seems dangerous.
Overheats phone
This is a great game but it makes my phone overheat within a minute and constantly crashes and resets all my level progress
Very good
This is very entertaining to play when you are bored and it’s tricky with makes it fun
Can’t see the full screen
You can’t use the bottom row of letters because the adds and settings are blocking the letters. Could even get through one game without giving up and deleting the app.
Get’s ya’ thinking
I like the game and I’m glad it’s not full of ads. An ad after a game is fair. NOT during the game! Thanks for good puzzles.
Good, but limited
While there is a fair few levels (just over 300), it only took me 2 months of having the game to complete it, and after that you only get daily levels
Enjoying!
I learned about this type of game when playing the NY Times Strands game. This game is very similar and fulfills my needs. I recommend.
Can't See the Entire Board
I can't play because I can't see the entire board. The entire bottom row is blocked. The hint button covers some of the puzzle board.
Level 17
I love this game. It’s very fun but I can’t get past level 17 due to the layout. The bottom row out letters can’t be touched as the option for hints is in the way.
Good concept, last row difficult to get around
Good concept but when an ad pops up at the bottom it mostly blocks the last row of letters. I tried the help and feedback buttons in settings but nothing happened when pressed
Strings
Love it
Worthless
I just downloaded this app and immediately deleted it. It is impossible to select the letters in the bottom row because they are covered by the ads. That makes this app totally useless, you cannot finish a puzzle. Extremely disappointing. Update 9/15/25: still useless. Unable to see or select letters in the bottom row, so unable to play. Extremely disappointing that this has not been addressed even though there are multiple reviews that mention this issue, including mine from 5 months ago.
Addictive!!
I’ve really enjoyed playing Strings. I would say that sometimes the themes are somewhat obscure so I particularly enjoy the fact that you can get hints by finding any words - but just those that relate to the theme! Without that I would struggle sometimes.
Much Fun
Challenging and fun
good game; bad ads
The game itself it great. the problem is the current ads fail to complete and the only option is to hard kill the app. then you don’t get credit for the ad and the cycle starts all over — currently unplayable
Fun
Fun, good game, when you try to drag it does select the wrong letters and stuff a lot though
Fun game
Great game!!!
Broken
Bottom row of the puzzles covered by the ui which is itself pushed upwards by an ad you can’t remove. Literally can’t play the game. Probably phone dependent, which is why it isn’t fixed, but still annoying.
Good
Great game, like puzzles
Strings
Challenging but fun!
Eats up battery like no other app, disproportionate to usage
Although this app is user-friendly and responsive, I had to delete it because it eats up battery -- after minimal use -- like no other app I've owned. That may be because, even in the ad-free version and when Wi-Fi is off, embedded ads are still active. (They pop up if you press an icon.)
Juuuust right
So far, enjoying. Not super easy (which I wouldn’t like), but not super difficult to where I end up deleting app
EASILY ADDICTIVE
Didn’t want to pay for NYTimes STRAND. This one is easy and didn’t have the glitches of Strand.
Almost
The free version is rendered unplayable by an ad-bar strategically blocking the bottom row of letters. Timed ads are one thing but this is just useless
A real teaser
Good for thinking out of the box.
