Surprising

Adaptability and ingenuity or hallmarks of AI DM‘s but so is forgetfulness and excessive randomness. So far I am pleasantly surprised at the resourcefulness and inventiveness inability to maintain a coherent story arc.

Awful AI

The AI does not listen to your inputs, and it does not change avatars to reflect clearly written commands. It is frustrating trying to make a character when it refuses to listen. Needs fixing.

I’m getting COOKED in combat

I’ve played a total of 3 campaigns and in all 3 of them, I died… before my character could reach level 2. I WANT to rate this review lower, but the storytelling is amazing and intuitive. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but please, nerf low-level enemies! There’s no reason why I should keep sustaining the same damage that I’m dealing to an enemy that has ~100 health, it’s driving me crazy! ☹️

The game steals from you.

It runs on a token system, fair enough. One token for one turn. But what if the game is unclear and you aren’t sure what it meant, (which happens more often than it should)? The answer is: The question to clarify the situation you ALREADY PAID FOR costs you ANOTHER token. Also, they advertise 5 tokens every 4 hours, but that is only if you log in every 4 hours to collect them. They do not build up over time past these 5 tokens, it’s misleading the way they present it.

Lots of promise

Lot of promise but need make the inventory consistent. Really like the vocal capability, makes it more immersive. Characters do have personalities so interactions are fun. However, you can be given and have things but it not show in the inventory. Also, you have to be constantly reminding the ai what characters have said. It almost feels like each scene you have to frame the entire thing for it to seem like a comprehensive story.

Game master, lore, healing don’t work

Healing during combat doesn’t work even if you have healing spells or items, breaking lore and continuity. I’ve spent hundreds of tokens trying to fix this with the game master only to have no resolve or fixes just repeated losses. Would not advise if you value proper world building, lore, or consistency amongst gameplay.

One problem

This game is really good. You can make yourself extremely strong as long as you enforce it with the lower of the game and continue to build your character strength. My only problem is that I’m extremely strong now, but I’m also fighting extremely strong enemies and I’d like to level up faster. I’m level 10. But I keep getting quests that tell me they’re going to be worth like 1000 XP but then once I get the quest in my quest book and completed it’s only worth 120 XP plus a special ability that says I surge with power that increases my experience by 1000 and I would just actually like the XP instead of the game lying to me

Good role play and character development, poor healing

A good, fun game. Combats can become repetitive, but also can be narrated into non-combat encounters. Biggest issue is with healing. You use a healing mechanic and the game reports successful healing, but the character do not regain any lost hp and the health bar does not recover either. Had 1 character die after three encounters with no hp recovery despite multiple narrated complete healings and “full health” statuses. Bug report sent, but no response as of yet (2 full days later).

It was fun, but the update killed it!

This game used to be fun, but the recent updated made it unplayable. Your weapons disappear in the middle of a fight, the AI apologizes for the screw up, and then it gets worse. The attack from an enemy hits you for 18 hps but you loose 42 instead. The AI is truly terrible , the update made it prettier, but the AI is simply stupid, unable to compute simple math.

Enjoyable and Creative

I’m finding this a fun way to spark creativity and storytelling. However, I don’t like how very repetitive the game is as you continue on along the same storyline. With each goal completed, every subsequent sequal is essentially the same story, repeated, with the same beats, same basic goal, same enemies, just all with slightly different names. This makes me less inclined to keep playing. I want storylines that evolve and grow instead of just repeating themselves. We need variety in the storytelling to make this really worthwhile.

Good game but crashes a lot.

This game is awesome. I love the different stories you can make and the freedom you have when you do them. However, the game crashes a bunch. Many times when the monsters spawn in, it crashes and you have to close it out to pull up the game again so you can type. Also when you click on info of monsters it will not auto sync the info sheet to the phone screen making you have to restart the game again. I’m talking every few minutes or so. But other than that, this would be a 5 star for me.

I kinda suggest

If you like dnd but don’t have it and don’t feel like setting an account up then play this but I only chose 5 star so I’d be up here having limited turn tokens is bad enough that you have to 5 hours to get only 5 more and the AI isn’t that bad I’ll admit but some of my characters I don’t like and they need to ad a ad thing so you can get more tokens instead of waiting five hours 2.3 actual stars

Almost perfect

This game is by far the best AI adventure game with great subscriptions and no cash grabbing, it allows infinite adventure potential and the ability to create your own adventures, it’s inventory and leveling system is spot on, sidequesting and Ai to GM communication is wonderful, the only two issues that stop this game from being a perfect 5 star is the online play being super tedious due to a bug where one player has to close the app or window while another player takes their turn making online play practically unplayable, Local play is amazing but all characters made are essential locked into that one story as you cannot select saved champions in online or local play which is super disappointing like why would I work so hard to get my solo character leveled if I can’t even use them to play with my friends, other than those two problems the game would be perfect in my book and it’s replay ability infinite. Overall game is amazing and I hope they get everything sorted for QOL multiplayer because even friends who aren’t really into this have gotten into it even my wife and that’s something!

Beginners critique

I have only played one and a half campaigns so far, and while I am very much enjoying this system, I do have some critiques. The open-minded (I say that loosely) AI system is usually very accommodating to my imagination. I have Ben able to create custom objects, artifacts, dynamics, and even deep relationships in an imaginary world. Sometimes I feel as though the ai is too accommodating, but that is not something I would change. This should be left to the individual player as it currently is. If the player chooses to create overpowered items and dynamics, that is their choice. I believe good TTRPG gives you the immersive experience that you allow. My critiques however I mainly two topics forced battle and social dynamics. With an AI system that is able to create so much so fast. I feel like there is a missed opportunity in the dynamics of your social interactions. I actually get a little annoyed when my teammates agree with whatever plan I come up with and many times give me justification for my own plan. I believe a little more opposition would add a huge amount of depth to the immersion experience. If each character has a goal in life(even a simple one), they should be able to voice a disagreement when their ideals come in conflict with your own. That doesn’t mean I can’t convince them but if everything always goes my way, it takes a lot of the fun out and does not feel very dynamic. The next issue is that battle feels forced. There are many times in my campaigns were battles fit the storyline and narrative. However, there are a lot of battle that pop-up literally out of nowhere that do not align with the story or the current situation. It is as though there is a timer between battles that regardless of where you are or what you are doing, the system says another one has to happen. I was in the middle of a conversation with a teammate that was getting married when a moth creature pops up out of nowhere in the middle of our dwelling. I was so annoyed with the randomness of it that instead of fighting it I wrote it out of the script. having to do that completely kicks me out of the immersion of the story. It’s OK to have periods of downtime where there is no battle but instead a mission involving diplomacy or a heist to steal something without being noticed. Scenarios like that helped develop the story but interrupting with random monster fights destroys the flow. I gave this a four star rating only because there’s no option between a four and a five. I really do enjoy the system and will continue playing it, but I do believe those two critiques if addressed would improve the experience immensely. thank you for taking the time to read this and good luck on your next adventure.

Glitchy

I thought I’d give it a try for a DND setup, it started off fine, new adventure made. I described curse of strahd with my character, including how I was going to start with gear. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good!

While the game itself is very well made (and will be enjoyed by many), it became a little too frustrating for me to continue to enjoy it. I wanted to play it like an open-world Final Fantasy-type game, but it’s not really designed that way. It repeatedly forgot a number of settings that I requested it to follow, causing me to have to remind it constantly. It couldn’t keep up with how much money I carried, and the items and abilities were never just straightforward battle-related things like in FF. It’s decisively story-heavy D&D, not battle-focused FF, so if D&D is what you want, you’ll certainly like this game!

This is a really cool concept, but it’s not currently worth the time or money. The AI forces you to burn tokens just get to the next part. It’s like it gets stuck and you have to keep promoting it to move forward, burning tokens each time. Burning tokens wouldn’t be so bad if you started with more than 20 and if they refreshed without having to “claim” free ones every 4 hours. Could be fun, but not really worth it.

Edited Review: Railroad DM

I am editing my review, I believe at the time I was unfair. So let’s give a more fair and comprehensive one: Is the idea good, yeah generally it’s a really interesting idea. Not everyone can have regular DND sessions and this idea does sort of hit a niche but interesting idea. I think the leveling and character system is very good and adds a lot more depth than you can get from any other AI system (ala ChatGPT). However, the AI is very focused on continuing a narrative it has set out, and it can really force you down that path. That is where my entire frustration with it came from because it is a good idea but I feel that really would need tweaking, as stated in my original review, the AI created a portal to a town or something that was in ruins, and it wasn’t interesting to me so I went back to the town. After trying to find out more about some political intrigue then a character burst into the room and said something to the sense of a portal has been created in the town and we need your help. That is when I did uninstall because I had made it pretty clear I was not interested in that storyline, but the AI was not able to roll with those punches very well, trying its best to get back on track on what it believed the story should be. But mostly if it can be re-worked there is an interesting app here, but right now for me it is not quite there. Some OTHER ways I think it could be improved: I think having some more questions at the beginning, such as “do you have any ideas for a world? Any plot ideas?” Could help, you can build your own adventure but when I did that I didn’t get the images generated, might have just been a bug but I thought at the time maybe that was only for the start new adventure option. I was able to get it to listen during the character question, but it wasn’t very intuitive. A notes section to give the AI some advice, such as: “Describe locations in great detail, what is the layout, how busy is the street?” I think could be helpful there was an adventure card system (I think it was called that) but I was not entirely sure if that was information the AI looked at, I might be wrong. Also the AI seems to want to finish the adventure a bit too quick for my liking, you can make it keep going, although I didn’t fully test how long it will last, not sure if it is aiming to make it to the end of the story due to the sequel feature. Also maybe changing the combat a bit to enforce turns, you can either be hit several times without change to respond, or you can hit the enemy multiple times, because there doesn’t appear to be a turn order. 👍

DnD advanced

This is actually worth it. They do T1 combat understand of traditional DnD. You can genuinely control the flow of battle based on how you steer your character. For example I have an eldritch insignia on my hand that glows a white flame hotter than white phosphorus. The game took that with stride and even let me freestyle with this ability but they never let me just win or cheat. Worth a shot.

You have to come up with everything

All it does is ask you what you want to do. It doesn’t come up with a story or anything. It asks what you want to do, you input what you want to do and then it asks you all the details. You might as well write a story entirely from your imagination, because you’ll have to if you do if you download this. At least your imagination doesn’t charge you money to go further than 10 plot points.

Inconsistency problem

Im a huge storytelling and world building fans and games like this a great. But I guess its more like the AI problem, where there seems to always been inconsistency with the stories like how the storyline jump from battling a Corrupt Duke to now stopping a shadowy monster sealed underneath a vault, town name changing between turn, and sometimes even informations gained that contradict each others. I get that its the AI that responding to how we play but its hard to role play the game when there is never seems to be a consistent goal or plot to it. Also, the game seems to always be in our favour. I never failed a turn and every battle is so easy that its just like playing with ChatGPT (yes I used to play with it too.

Disappointed

I was very excited when I saw this game and hurried to download. Just the thing I’ve been looking for. I enjoyed my first game quite a bit and wasn’t upset when my character died a pretty good short story of events. The encounters seemed pretty similar but it made sense with the type of story. My second character was different. The encounters were all the same and didn’t make sense with my character’s actions. Character camouflages a hiding spot and surveys the environment, spotting nothing for an hour, gets ambushed. “What do you do?” “My character does this.” “Cool, you get ambushed by generic enemy.” Over and over. My character joined forces with some NPCs and all would be attacked by the same enemy, even though half the group was in a different location. Needs more variety in types of encounters. Needs to aim encounters at the type of character played. (Doesn’t need to give me everything I want but you can’t only ambush a hidden sniper.) NPCs need to be willing to chat, fight and do stuff. This got boring fast.
