Fun, easy and educational!
I’m currently walking my third walk and enjoying it just as much as the others. The walks teach me about new regions. They are inspirational for those of us who love hiking. And they are super fun to do with friends. So find a new walk and hit the trail!
Loved it until the new update
I really loved the old interface and found it bright and cheerful and super easy to navigate. The new is super boring looking and would agree with another reviewer that it seems cold. It is not as user friendly as the old. I have a harder time seeing where my friends are at and it seems like I have less access to things in the past. Several Steps in the wrong direction. Please bring back the old.
Adds fun to walks and hikes.
I’ve been an avid hiker for many years never was a step-counter, but when I read an article about Walk The Distance it sounded fun and I decided to give it a try. I just completed the Appalachian Trail and am starting the John Muir Trail today. It’s fun to work toward completing a goal every time you go for a hike, and it adds some motivation to get out there and do it. And every day it tells you how much progress you’ve made. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of five is that I wanted to go back and find when I started my AT effort and the “history” feature wouldn’t go all the way to the beginning. I highly recommend!
Can’t enable notifications
Downloaded the app but can’t enable notifications. When trying to turn them on from the app, it creates a pop up indicating I must give permission before enabling. Takes me to iPhone settings, where the app doesn’t display because it hasn’t requested permission for notifications. So I can’t enable. So it won’t request. So I can’t enable…
Appalatian Trail
Like these virtual walks for incentives to get out. Only complaint is lack of scenery pics, as not interested in shelter pics.
Love!
Love this app! It helps keep me accountable and motivated. Love the different checkpoints!
New update made the app unusable
Once the update occurred I have lost a massive amount of data. Interface completely changed and the app now consistently crashes as it attempts to log any distance. Please fix this.
Wonderful app
What a wonderful app. I use it with a couple friends to try to keep us motivated and moving. The app provides the ability to see you friends, i think their should be a setting to allow friends only to see your distance instead of allow all others and then going to the map to set just your friends. It would also be great if we could send messages to our friends on the maps to motivate them.
Crashes
I updated my iPhone to iOS 12 and now app crashes. Please fix it! I used to love this app.
Walk the distance app
Nice concept but the app continues to record my miles incorrectly. Even after I go in and “report missing miles”, it doesn’t always work.
9 to 11 miles per day
I love this app! I typically walk about 9 to 11 miles per day and this app makes it so much more fun. I love the information at each checkpoint—I’ve learned A LOT—and I’m an extremely competitive person so being able to see and pass other people on the maps is really motivating. So far, I’ve completed Central Park, Arches National Park, Barcelona, Rome, National Mall, San Francisco, Paris, London, Beverly Hills, and Yellowstone. I’m currently walking Arlington National Cemetery. I’d LOVE to see a map for Ireland or Scotland added, and maybe Australia! If you’re looking for something to motivate you in your health journey, this is it!
I got booted out
I was hiking the Appalachian Trail and then it reset. I payed for it but it didn’t let me finish. Was it only good for a certain amount of time? I tried to contact the owner but got no response.
4.5 Stars
I’ve been at it for a year now, and have gone 840 miles on the AT. I really like the app, and can’t wait until they add the Florida Trail. I also requested to be able to enter my own miles because my iPhone is always a little short.
How do I link with friends?
Hi App Makers, How do I forge a link with friends in this app? (I can generate general blurb texts and emails, but can't create app linkage with my friends). I want to track my friends' progress. Thank you
Excellent app!
I originally had difficulty accessing content, but the developer very quickly responded with a fix and I’m so happy I gave it a second try. There are tons of hikes around the globe ranging from just a few miles to hundreds of miles long. It’s very motivating when you see your progress along the trail and the landmarks and other facts they include are interesting and keep me engaged. I strongly recommend this app!
Doesn’t work
Looked like an interesting app . Went to try out multiple different maps and nothing happens. Already deleted it
A Great distraction
This app is a great distraction during the pandemic. A huge improvement would be made if it accepted data from the Fitbit.
The best walking app I have found
I absolutely love this app! I love the information, beautiful pictures and fun facts about waypoints and they help keep me motivated to walk so I can see the next one. It is the only way I’ll ever be able to walk the AT so it’s a fun adventure. I will absolutely be subscribing as soon as I finish all the free walks. I would also love to see the North Country Trail added in the future if possible, but if not I will still subscribe because this app is 100% worth it!
Doesn’t work !
I just downloaded app. I am using latest iOS on an iPhone 7 Plus. The app will not let me create a password. Adhering to their suggestions (6 letters, capitals & special character etc.) No matter what password I type in, It will not accept and save.
Love it
Love this app and really keeps me moving during these times. However...the recent update doesn’t seem to let me stay zoomed in on myself...watching myself go past people is a great motivator for me. Otherwise I’m loving it
Love tracking my miles this way
I’ve really enjoyed my virtual walk on the Appalachian Trail. It’s fun to track my miles and put updates on my Facebook page. If I have friends that live near the trail, I tell them that I will be in their neighborhood, which usually makes them smile. Great appWith great behind-the-scenes support. Look forward to continuing on and finishing my AT journey
Let me choose my own password
I tried to choose a pass phrase for this account which is actually stronger than a password. The app repeatedly told me to choose a stronger password. Look, if someone wants to steal my account and add steps to my journey: LET THEM! I’ll consider you again when I’m allowed to choose the password I want.
Application stimulante!
L’application est intéressante et motive à marcher! Après 11 jours, j’arrive en Caroline du nord! Par contre, j’aimerais que le trajet parcouru soit toujours visible quand je change d’état. J’aime les informations données sur le trajet.
Rest motivation
So simple and fun too. Thank you!
Either my app isn't working right or I just don't see the hype.
I thought that you could actually see the place that you were walking in, like Google earth. Is that not the case???????
Would give 5 if did the UK
Great app would love some more trails and walks especially adding other areas especially the United Kingdom. Great app and idea keep up the good work. 👍
Motivating! Fun! Easy to use!
So happy I found this app! A great way to virtually experience some adventuresome hikes. The app is easy to use, sync to your exercise/health app, navigate through and has responsive customer service. Looking forward to watching my progress through the interactive maps!!
Fitbit access needed
Linking to the health app rather than to Fitbit ruins this for me.
Great Idea and fun!
Just got this app recommended by a fellow hiker. It’s fun to „walk“ the AT „again“. It’s lovely how the developer put infos and pics of the AT in there. You can reach trailmarkers like shelter and then you got some informations about this area. Also you can choose other walks like marathons, national parks and cities. Customer support is also great. Love it. Highly recommend it. With a bit further development this will be an awesome fun app. One star is only missing because sometimes the stabilization (with pics) and map is sometimes missin.
Great app. Totally worth installing
Fantastic app. I’m really glad I found it while searching for virtual hikes/runs. All of my distance auto uploads from my Apple Heath, which gets its data from my Garmin Connect app. Every day or so, I see a a new notification saying I’ve reached “Xxx shelter” or whatever and I click into the app to see my progress. The prices on the longer hikes are totally worth it and I didn’t have any issues with paying for them. I reached out to the developer with a couple quick questions and he was super responsive. If looking for an app to help with a little motivation with a monthly or yearly mileage goal, this is your app.
Enkel och rolig
Kul att gå bland annat the Appalachian Trail och annat virituellt med denna app. Inspirerat mig att gå längre varje dag.
Very cool!
I love this app! It is cool that you can do these awesome trails any time anywhere. I think there should be more trails, there doesn't feel like a very big variety even if you bought all trails, but that's just my opinion. If the devs see this, please add more trails, free and paid.
