Aurora Forecast
Great app! I was able to see Aurora because my app said I had a 40% chance.
Fake trial
App tries to hook you in with free, but once you cancel it claims that you’re too late and charges you for a full year.
Good app but not working right now
This is a good app when it’s working. But lately the 3 day KP forecast has not been updated since March 11th.
Sad
I liked it better before the update. I miss the details as they were. Most of us can’t afford multiple paid subscriptions. They add up!
Good App
I like the app. The layout is good and the forecasts are solid. But, the intelligence review always says there is heavy cloud. Always. Even when further into the app it says the cloud cover is 3%, intelligence still says to stay indoors due to heavy cloud cover. This piece needs work if this app is to realize it’s strong potential
👍🏼
Really good 💗
Hate the new format
I used to love this app. But since a couple updates ago, I now find it worthless. I miss the short and long term forecast charts and hourly timing. I used to use this app all over the world but not any more.
Not a bad app
I would suggest adding Bz monitor with the solar wind speed and density. Without that crucial information, you are missing out on true forecasting. Negative (southward Bz) is what breaks through the magnetosphere creating auroras in the first place.
Not Happy with the update!!!
Do not update to the new version, you will lose the long term forecast! WHY DID YOU DELETE THAT???
Forecast stopped updating
Normally this app works pretty well, but the 3 day forecast hasn’t been updated for a few weeks. It’s still showing data from March 10-13, and it’s currently March 23.
Awesome App
There is nothing hokey about this one! It’s accurate with its mapping and forecasting, lists its (mostly MIT) sources, and its easy to use. Even if you weren’t just using it to spin the globe around to see how the lights were interacting with the atmosphere above your house, there’s lots of graphs, sun photos, and data points to look at, more than I’ll ever use or figure out. One thing I would like to see is a section explaining exactly what all the different telephoto filters and graphs represent. It’s hard to search for all that on the internet without knowing what any of it means! One thing that I’d like to share; even if the map says that you have a 0° chance of seeing the northern lights, if the global map shows the colour relatively close, get out there with your phone on a tripod and point it north. If you can get a 30 second exposure on your photo, the camera will pick up some pretty crazy stuff! Overall, I use this app all the time! Love it !
Unable to get widgets to display or AI
While I have a full year subscription I can’t get the widgets to display. All widget say a subscription is needed. I also can’t get the AI feature to work. I have an iPhone 17 pro max that fully supports this feature but I still can’t get it. This is a handsome application but the lack of direct communication is causing a problem I have not found a way to contact the author so I’m posting the problem here.
Great app! Timezone settings can be introduced
Great app, but the time zone it shows on the app is not sure. It should introduce feature to introduce localtime zone for greater customer experience. It should avoid the confusion
Oh, no! Not AI !
New version touts all kinds of AI features but it still thought I lived in Nome, Alaska. If it can’t figure out where I am, what’s the likelihood of it being accurate in its forecast? They’ve taken what was a fine app and ruined it with AI just for marketing value, then nag you to subscribe to it.
Needs rebooting or ??
Aurora happening but not coordinated with graphic (globe)! Also shade+daylight graphic is backwards today)!!
Works
This was the only app that successfully alerted us to northern light activity on our Nov 2024 trip to Iceland. Every time it sent a notification, we went outside and were able to capture some activity. None of the other apps did. Worth every penny for the subscription!
Map never loads
I’ve downloaded this app several months ago, but despite receiving alerts and clicking on them, I’ve never had the viewing map load. The “wheel” spins endlessly, asking for patience, but nothing ever loads.
Watch complication does not work
And the app is clunky, but the alerts are good.

Bonsoir monsieur
Je bien contente de vous voir.
Won’t delete
I have tried to delete this app multiple times and the next morning it’s back on my Home Screen
Would have gotten 5 stars except…..
The composite image of the Sun using filters AIA 211, 193, and 171 has been stuck on 2017-06-28 since, well, June 28, 2017.
Not great
This app told me there was zero chance of seeing the aurora in my area, but people further south than my location were seeing it. I went outside and was able to see it. The city lights impeded my view some, so the colors weren’t very dark, but I could definitely see it and even got pictures of it. If I had relied on this app I never would have seen it.
Great app
This is a great app! However, the 3 day KP graph needs to have current times and dates - not 1am on each bar and the date is always Jan 01 (I have deleted the app and re-uploaded it and it didn’t make difference). Not helpful for planning an Aurora shoot.
Very good app!
Works great but it would be nice to be able to set the time frame for alerts. I don’t need to know during the day as they won’t be visible.
Free trial not so free
Tried the free trial and cancelled immediately, but was still charged for a year subscription. No way to contact anyone to resolve.
Good app
This is very useful, given the fact that I love to watch the aurora. One thing is that I don’t like how you have to pay to get notified every time the aurora is good in your area. That part is rather annoying.
Why? is it a glitch?
Ok so Ummm… it said there was a 0% chance and my friend saw them that lives on the same road as me. what’s up with that?
Decent, but not quite polished
To mention first: I understand that “forecasting” Aurora is extremely difficult, and far less accurate than predicting rain or snow. With that, this app is overall decent, but missing a couple things that would really complete it. First, the app doesn’t seem to consider local weather or daylight hours when sending alerts. I will see an alert saying that there is a higher chance of seeing Aurora in the next couple of hours, only for the sky to be completely overcast and approaching solar noon! Secondly, I am not sure where the app is sourcing the data from. I am assuming the NOAA OVATION Aurora model, but it would be great to confirm that and possibly even add in forecasting from other sources (the University of Alberta, local to where I live, runs an “AuroraWatch” prediction site). I know there are other European-based agencies and departments that run models. They don’t all have to be an option, but if there was a mechanism to request inclusion and then work on integrating the top requests it would be awesome. For inspiration, I really like the way Windy not only lets you pick which primary weather forecasting model you use, but allows you to compare the different predictions to one another quickly.
FOSS MIT
Nuke beauty
Don’t work
I was just outside watching a beautiful show of the aurora and pulled up this app to see how strong it was. The app says 0% chance of viewing in my area and the map shows it’s way north of me. Uninstalling
Missing
Miss the rotating earth showing the location since prior to purchasing the program.
Doesn’t work on Apple Watch
I updated to pro so I could use the app on my Apple Watch. The watch says I have to updated to pro but I did! I performed all sorts of troubleshooting and none worked.
Instructions?
I find the maps a bit hard to read, and also couldn’t see any instructions for interpreting the graphs.
Outstanding Aurora Prediction Tool
Wow, I'm impressed. This app is a science lesson on Auroral and solar activity and provides a ton of useful information. I'm most interested in knowing ahead of time when to head outside to see an Aurora but I also want to learn more about solar activity. Thanks for a great app!
Worthless
This always says 0 chance, even when i am viewing the most i credible lights ever.
Great but iOS 8 issue
Latest update on iOS 8 iPhone 6 is crashing on opening. Otherwise amazing app!
Annoying
Date and Time is always wrong in 3 day forecast (1970!)
Could be great...
Seems like a nice enough app, I appreciate the ability to set different thresholds to receive notifications for - but someone needs to add a feature that mutes these during daylight hours. I can’t imagine it’d be that difficult, but man is it annoying being bombarded by notifications at 9am saying you may see northern lights in a few hours 😂
FINALLY!!!!!
I’ve had this app for some time now. I think I downloaded it after the April 2023 event but bc I had this app I knew the aurora was coming a little b4 it was all over the TV. I don’t have the paid version and then BOOM HUGE SOMAR STORM hits and people in places that should never get to see the northern lights got to see them!! For me in the arm pit of the US(NJ) it was cloudy all the night but I was able to coordinate going outside with breaks in the clouds thanks to this app. I probably shoulda upgraded to the paid version bc fake god knows what I missed. It saved me from staying up all night the following night bc I could see that the aurora never made it lower than the Hudson Bay while it was dark near me so I just put the camera out and went to sleep!! You never know when these storms will hit but having juuuuust a little more info about it than the average person is definitely worth the download and dang it I wish I upgraded during the 5/2024 event…. Oh well I hope I’m alive the next time we get a G5 solar storm AND THAT ITS CLEAR but if I am ill have this app handy! It was fun to see 3% chance for aurora in your area and it was right!! Couldn’t see with the naked eye but the time lapse video will be burned into my memory forever! And if I ever decide to travel and see the lights I would ABSOLUTELY upgrade and pay for the service. I never review apps but felt I wanted to thank the developers of this app bc I really had a lot of use for it bc of the weather in my area!! Thank you!!
Don’t bother using this app
Forecast for Aurora in my county was 0%. I read this forecast immediately after viewing the Aurora!
Wow!!
Whilst I can't yet vouch for the accuracy of it; the Aurora Nowcast feature is pretty damn cool! Great app.
Paid for the app
Paid for the app so I could get notifications, but when I try to set the parameters it just alerts me that it “x failed”. Disappointed.
Nice app
Update - I hadn’t used this app in some time. Stared using it again and I can say you do get notifications. In fact sometimes a bit too many when things are active. I like the watch app too, however, you do need to pick on the complication to have it update sometimes. Old review- The app works well as a reference tool, lots of good info there. I sprang for the notifications, and I have yet to ever receive one. Recently contacted them about it, waiting on a response still.
5 Stars!!!
Great app. Fast. Accurate.
Makes no sense
The app sends you notice in the daytime that you might see aurora within a few hours…it’s daylight, geniuses. Also, the notice says lvl4 and the app says 0% chance. Which is it?
Please fix the app or provide an update
The app worked great until 9th Dec 2014, developers say the site the information was sourced from has changed.... OK but no update as to when will it be fixed
Need to subscribe to get alerts
If you want alerts for northern lights in your area, go with the Aurora app instead
Changed for the worse
This used to be a good app, but when I opened it today I found the whole appearance and access to the data changed and now much less accesible.
