What people like
- Helpful view feature for spotting lights
- Clear layout with useful forecasts
- Easy to use and simple
- Good companion to other tracking apps
What they complain about
- Notifications often miss real aurora displays
- Cannot set alerts for different locations
- Data sometimes shows zero chance incorrectly
- Alerts trigger too easily and falsely
Clean, easy to use
The app is very simplistic and easy to use. It helps that you are able to see different information for a specific time just by dragging your finger. Still trying to learn the importance of all given info
Doesn’t even deserve one star
Looked at map and as shocked to see that the creators called the Gukf of Mexico the Gulf of America?!👎🏻👎🏻 If you don’t know the names in geography, you’re not scientific. WORST APP EVER!!!!
Great could use a bit more
This app is pretty good for tracking flares and the basic telemetry for space weather but I wish they would at least put some of the Cme spiral models on here and extend the recent solar flare list to at least a week so that we can watch the CME’s from those flares come in, since it can take several days for them to reach us I feel it would help with preparing aurora chasers if we could track the CMEs from the sun to us, instead of watching the x flares drop off before the telemetry picks it up, if you didn’t catch the flare before they drop off, you wouldn’t know to expect anything. But other wise this is solid for catching the x flare when it happens, but you still have to go to noaa or a space weather site if you want to catch a video of the event before it gets back logged and you have to search for that data.
Not free! Subscription
Not bad at $9/yr but NOAA is free
Verbesserungsvorschlag
Observer
Simply awesome app very much cool!!
Cancel the application
Useless ,never worked this application
Not real time alert of activity
Just real Time alert of probability- not activity
Select other location
Since I never have location services turned on I can’t do much with the app. I’m also too far south for most events. What would be very useful would be to be able to select a location on the map. That way I could tell what I could see if I travelled north to a different location. My primary use for the app would be to help me decide if and where to travel in order to see some good Aurora.

Aurora Now
Still learning how "Speed", "Bz", "Density", "Bt", etc. relate to visible Aurora intensity, but what I do understand works great. App layout is clear and concise. The "3 Day Forecast" and "27 Day Outlook" are vert helpful and I really enjoy the "Map" page. Just wish I understood more of the data in looking at.
Not accurate
The app told me last night there was 0% activity in my town. This morning I see a lot of pictures posted by locals
Needs a Tutorial
It took a lot of effort to find out what “Bt” was, by searching websites. Still not sure about it as an alert value because what I found was: it’s the B-angle and that’s optimum in March and September. That can’t be it! We don’t need an alert that it’s March or September!!! Please advise. Thanks.
Falske varsler
Cry wolf...!
Not loving the new update
Maybe I need to get used to it…I really liked having HP quickly available. Update - to refresh I have to swipe away the program and then relaunch it. The HP used to be in bigger text (Hemispheric Power in gigawatts)
User
Superb
Did not identify cost before loading app
Poor business practices
Nice
I haven’t used this a lot but it is quite nice, waiting for a good storm to test it more.
Contradicting forecasts
Because of this app we cancelled our trip to Iceland since it predicted Kp 2 to 3 during our dates. How disappointed we were that suddenly it gave us Kp 6 after we cancelled everything two days before. But the most disappointment was to see two graphs of 3 days and 27 days one above the other with two contradictions for the same night!
Aurora
I really like this app. I check everyday. I just would like to be able to put a location.
Excellent Northern Lights Tracker
Love this app. Best I’ve found so far for tracking Northern Lights.
The aurora notification doesn’t work, ever.
The app is fine but the aurora notification doesn’t work, ever.
Seems nice, but
I wish you could set up notifications for other areas other than your current location and also the ability to get notifications based on the forecast. i.e get notified when the space weather will be dramatic at my cabin this weekend.
good idea, not very accurate, in my experience, others we have better luck
I live in Minnesota and roughly the middle of the state. We see the lights from time to time during strong, solar events. They can push down to the midpoint of Minnesota. I have seen them three times since getting this app, but not because the app helped. when I seen the lights, I’ve opened the app and it says my chances of seeing the lights or 0%, this app is last updated four years ago, maybe a new update and tweaking are in order? Good idea, poor function.
Anpassung nötig !!!
App is really cool to sad it’s not optimized for bigger screens
Great features!
Love the view feature, helps significantly when trying to spot the aurora.
Worse than worthless
I’ve been missing the Northern Lights lately, so I installed the app to get notifications. Checked the app last night- probability- 0, no notification. Looked outside and the lights were spectacular! So glad I didn’t rely on this app
Best
Easily the best and most comprehensive Aurora app
not sure it works
It missed out on some glorious Arora bursts on our southern ish lattitude whilst it boasted massive warnings and notifications on black featureless skies…
Aurora
The app is quite nice and useful. But I miss the possibility to enter a location the be informed in advanced. It works only on location where you are standing and not where you are looking for You should improve this option for the future
Must have, if you are an aurora chaser!!
Great app, lots of information provided and probability of seeing auroras. Also need to learn about all the various terms and indices used, in aurora prediction and probability. I use this daily.
Trash
You need to pay EVERYTHING to get access to the app. Horrible app👎👎👎 no one download this
Good app
This app performs well, and gives me the information I need to be on the alert for the possibly seeing an aurora in my area. I would recommend this app to a friend.
Not working correctly
The percentages are always at 0. I have tried to delete and reinstall, but no improvement. I have paid the fee, but that doesn’t work either
Limited
No ability to put in the location I am going to to see the conditions there.
Very helpful tool
This is a very useful little tool if you have an interest in seeing the aurora. I highly recommend it!
Trash app
I was watching the aurora on the sky in Birds Hill, while the app was showing 0% chance. Strongly do not recommend, useless app!
Added help
Great to use alongside other apps to ensure you get to see them! Although there are other factors that sometimes means you still don't see them even though everything is saying you should see them!! All in all great help!!
Eh....
It was nice. But, local probability no longer loads. That was one of the main reasons I paid for this app and it’s alerts. Now it’s gone.
Aurora
Det är roligt att "kolla läget". Jag har dock lite svårt att veta vilken tid som gäller.
Great help!!
We used the app to watch locations in my area when we should head out looking. I set alerts which work great!! Got pictures in Illinois last night!!!!! 🥰
Never worked for me
I could never get past the “network problem - could not load new data” error message. A pity...
Useful notifications
I live in hope that sometime I will be in the right place to see the Aurora. This site is useful to me
Last update bad
This most recent update has rendered my app useless. Super bummed.
God
Greit hjelpemiddel som hadde blitt komplett om man integrerte værdata👍🏻
Great app
Fun app. Thank you
Was good until now
This was a nice app but it stopped displaying data around May 10 and I am wondering what's going on... Still broken after May 23rd update.
Aurora Gazer
Clear, concise, and visual. What more could you ask for? Great app.
Hva koster denne appen?
Det fremgår ikke hva den koster
Nice app but the Solar Wind Alert is useless.
If you are planning to pay for the Solar Wind Alerts, and not living very close to the poles, then consider this first: The Solar Wind Alert in the app can be triggered by the Bz (direction), OR the Bt (strength), OR the solar wind speed, that is one criterium at a time. However, you need a combination of these criteria in order to create a relevant alert. For example if the direction (Bz) is southern AND the speed is over 400 km/s, then there's a good chance for an observation in the northern parts of Scandinavia. The app cannot trigger alerts by choosing a combination of these criteria, which makes the solar wind alerts useless. I informed the author on this issue, but received a very unconcerned answer.
