What people like
- Huge variety of Bible translations
- Easy to search for specific verses
- Great audio Bible option available
What they complain about
- Ads are impossible to close
- App crashes or shows white screen
- Audio stops when you scroll chapters
- Login issues even with paid subscription
Can’t log in
I paid for the plus, used my Apple account to set everything up and now it won’t let me log in. I loved this app but now I can’t get it to work
Too many ads
Can a millionaire buy this app and kill the ads on this please?
Advertisements.
I’ve had this app for several years. I like it because it’s easy to find the verse I’m looking for. But I find it hard to navigate past the advertisements. User error I’m sure.
Erased notes after update
This app really makes it easy to read & understand the bible, but when I updated it, it erased every single one of my notes for every book, which I had taken a lot of time to do. I’m so upset
So Frustrating!
I can’t get into the app because of gatekeeper game ads! There is usually no X to click so I can move on. I like to listen to scriptures as I go to sleep, but I try multiple times to enter and usually just give up. Why is there such a block to be able to get to scriptures?
Please fix
The highlighter feature is great but sometimes when you highlight a verse it will unhighlight. Other than that the app is great!
Bible Gateway:
I hate that you don’t have a way we can look up books or chapters and better to go to where we want to go. It’s inaccessible. I’m totally blind. I can’t use this app. I really hate this! Can you please fix this! Thanks!
Ads, Ads, Everywhere…
I loved the Bible gateway app, and I love the site, but today, July 20th, 2026, they started with pop up ads that lick the screen like I’m playing a free version of solitaire. I deleted the app immediately. I’ll use the online version and avoid the app. And if and when the online web version gets infested with advertisements, I’ll dump that too. Very disappointing.
Can’t login on the app but no troubles on the web browser. It’d be nice to sync my plans to the app.
Use lifechurch app instead
I've used BibleGateway.com website for years, but the app has a few issues: the audio player doesn't work well, and the app has ads for gambling. They should be selective in who they allow to run ads
Great App!
Bible Gateway has everything you need to read God’s word. It’s a great app!
Practically Unusable
Use to be a great app. With the ads now, this app is practically unusable.
Good Bible app
This app is my favorite Bible app to use, but it’s still frustrating that it doesn’t keep your place with the audio Bible option. It had been doing better, then an update changed that again. When I open it, it goes back to where I started the day before. I keep track by using a sticky note app on my phone, which works fine.
Exodus from
I was looking up Exodus chapter 3 today on Gateway (NIV) and the chapter was missing. I read chapter 2 and then it was followed by chapter4.
Aggravated
Been using for about year . Read daily verse then start reading what i wanted to , lately read daily verse can’t go back to were I was app takes me were it want to,not happy. Can deal with add not dealing with when I look something up and it goes were it wants .
Great for quick reference
This is my go to when I want specific passages and verses that a small concordance in the back of my Bible can’t offer
Bad
Horrible app literally has ads when you open it. Bad greedy devs
Possibly fixed
I just spent some time with tech support and after two or three simple exchanges, the problem may be fixed. I hope so. If it’s permanent, I’d give the app five stars.
Jesus, but with ads
Huge variety of translations and good interface marred by constant ads
Need an ad free version
I got tired of opening it in church and getting a stupid ad. I wanted a paid version that’s ad free but I can’t find one. Bible Gateway is a great product but swimming through the traps upon opening drove me away. I purchased a Study Bible app, no ads and a better search engine. Too bad.
Gone down hill
There all of a sudden glitches and so many ads I can’t figure out how to navigate away from. Bye bye.
Update??
Can’t click on verse of the day to launch into bible and read surrounding scripture. Please fix. Thanks.
History
I have really appreciated this app. Been able to compare different translations quickly, and also the audio feature. But in recent times the history feature of this app is not working, and it is really useful when it did work
Can’t Click on Daily Verse to Favorite it or make a Note
Recently on 8/4/26 to current..Can’t Click on Daily Verse to Favorite it or make a Note, please fix
Not for iPad
Pretty unstable for iPad Pro. Sometimes it works sometimes it does not, no documentation to figure out how to control it.
Works fine
I like it. Jesus is Lord of all.
What did you do to my app!
I’m not one to hate change, and so I’ve been trying really hard to appreciate the new format, but you’ve ruined it! It’s hard to navigate, hard to search, the ads are really annoying, and I cannot find the audio bible anywhere. Even after the changes, my audio worked, until tonight. Apparently, audio is no longer available in the free version. Guess I’ll go find another online bible app.
Ads Too Intrusive
This is a great app but unfortunately the advertisements have become more intrusive and deceptively difficult to close. Recently some ads have become almost impossible to navigate away from and this has made me think twice about the value of this app.
Never ending ads
So irritating to not be able to by-pass ads that go on forever then selectively turns on your App Store.
I can’t highlight in the app.
I can’t find a place to leave a message, and I’m frustrated. I would not have chosen to make this public - oh well. I can’t highlight or take notes on the app. I can do these things on a browser. I love this app so much that I bought the plus version. I did all the things: sign out then sign in, deleted the app then downloaded it again. Please help me with this issue. I’d be really sad if I had to cancel my subscription.
Request
Would you please add The Scriptures 2009
Ads/Scams
I was getting tired of the ads, but then I had one ad that came up and it had a pop-up that made it look like my iPhone was asking me to sign into iCloud. It was obviously a scam built into the ad. I deleted this bible gateway app after that.
Technical Issue
Hi, so I’m having an issue with the bible reading plan. When I go on to the daily reading plan it keeps telling me that there is no reading for today, it’s consistent and I will not allow me to continue, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail which is a shame as this is a great app. Also not sure if you are aware but I use to copy and paste scriptures to Facebook through gateway bible on a browser, I can no longer do this as Facebook has marked you as offensive 😳
Frustrating ads
Love the features—when I can finally get to them! Of all the apps I use with ads, these are the worst to get past. They go on for a long time before the option to close them comes up. And sometimes it never does, forcing engagement with the advertisement to finally get to the Bible. This makes using the app in church or at a study almost impossible. I end up just googling the scriptures on the web. Used to use this app all the time, now I hardly use it anymore.
Why?
You have made it extremely difficult to share passages of scripture. It used to be a whole lot easier before your recent update. What would the Lord do?
Review
It is easy to use and is very easy to understand.
I really dislike this update
Can you all Please change the app back. Sometimes simple is better and in this case it is !! The audio doesn’t work the same any more and the search is weird. If you change the version to AMP , you can’t listen to the audio Bible at the same time . When you scroll to a new chapter , the audio turns off . I hate the update and according to the comments a lot of other users do as well. Please change it Back !!!!!!!!!! Get your money back from who ever did the new design for you all. Could you fix the app to where you can literally scroll other verses in different books and chapters and the audio not go to different books and chapters. You literally can’t study other chapters and listen at the same time because whatever yall did to the audio messed it up
lol please help can’t start bible in 90 days reading plan
all the other plans worked except for bible in 90 days plan. can you find a way to solve this issue? i really want to access it on my phone instead of using the web. thanks
This used to a great app
I’ve used this app for a long time sadly, since it became an ad based app, this app is completely gone downhill from where it once was. I’m not using this app anymore. There’s other apps that are out there that don’t have ads that have better interface usefulness. This particular app is no longer relevant. I still use Bible gateway when I need to look stuff up on the Internet, but as far as mobile app, this is not the app anymore Which is a sad thing because I really loved the app. They’ve completely butchered this thing.
Like the App but disappointed
I enjoyed the app but now it’s full of ads. Disappointing.
Great Bible app
Great Audio Bible app😍
Disappointed in the new app
This app used to function well. The new design is not user friendly. I’m not able to get information from the commentaries even though I have ‘plus’. The layout is cumbersome.
All u need for bible reading
Great app with a reading plan, audio bible, search function for keywords and sync function to save ur notes. Has all versions u will need for the english bible and also bible in different languages!
Leave well enough alone.
Why did you change your gateway bible app? What was so wrong with it? You should of left well enough alone! Now when you look up a chapter to read you have all these extra stuff attached to it. To much distraction is going on. Why? For a update? What kind of update is this? I wish I would have never updated this app. We really enjoyed the old one.
Always bugging
We can’t open the bible
Mobile Bible App
it is a great mobile digital tool for scripture understanding & very versatile for every kind of reader :-)
Not okay for navigation, cant dismiss the ads. resources not Biblical. Deleted to use another.
Resources aren’t Biblical
Bible gateway
Great Bible apps, love the many versions of Bible it offers, as well as some audio , note taking, and reference features. Drawbacks, can't read the bible when there is no WIFI connection while travelling abroad, or outdoor somewhere. Being British educated, I am more accustom to English accent when listening to the audio, so I feel a bit strange listening to American accent. anyhow, I hope is a fair comment, not a criticism.
Miss Parallel for iPhone
I’ve been using app for quite a few years and I’ve always loved resources that are available on this app.. however I guess with this new revision or update there’s no parallel for iPhones, and that’s one of the features that I use the most. Hopefully you guys will make the change and include iPhones again.
At first my favourite app now not good
When I first started using this app, I loved it as many features. I really enjoy but now I have a hard time getting it to work. I don’t know how to do it. I wish they could get the bugs fixed. What happens is when I open, it goes to a white screen and that’s it, and also I’m inside of the app. I will use the Bible and it will crash and or it will not give me the dark mode with the big print which I need to read. I’m trying to learn about my Lord. I had not been asking for patients for a very long time, but this app is intent on helping me develop more patience by giving me more trials. I don’t need a trial while I’m learning the word I get enough trials in my life.
