Awesome, feature filled
Perfect for journaling.
Love this app
I will admit it took me a while to understand how this app works. I am still learning. But once you start to get the hang of it..... it is awesome!! I have no complaints what so ever. I would love however to see some metallic and or glitter inks, I would love also to see a pc version. I do all my planning on this app. I don’t take notes. Update unlimited zoom no longer works and I don’t recommend this app if you want that feature
Best note taking software, but needs some ux work
Unparalleled features, but the ux is fairly incomprehensible. Give it a week and you’ll get it, but it’s tough. Loving it now!
Lost months of work twice
I lost months of work & had to start from scratch I got to a certain point & today lost everything again after it crashed for the 100th time just today. I had my work on auto backup & thought I was covered . I went to re import my back up but the app backed up my file to the time my documents disappeared so once again I’ve lost everything. I love this app when it works but I’m freaking sick of losing my work & having to started over . I won’t be recommending this app & won’t be renewing my sub because In my experience it’s not dependable.
Requires improvement
It frequently crashes and requires improvement.
Best Versatile Note Taking App
If you’ve used other graphic or note apps you’ll find ZoomNotes your best option out there with layers and more editing options than another note app. You can use it as simple or as complex as your skill takes you. Great support from the developer as well. Amazing value for the full version price.
So Disappointed!!
I have been using ZoomNotes for 3 months. The app was just gone when I opened my iPad today. And when I reinstalled alll of customizations were gone. All of my files gone. And I had iCloud backup on. When I restore my lost planner it’s now acting glitchy so I close the app and reopen now my planner is gone again. I go to files to get it back and it’s gone. All my notes all my work is gone I’m sick. This is unacceptable! I’m just crushed. Months of work just gone.
Mostly great
ZoomNotes really has everything I could ask for in a notes app. I’ve started incorporating it into my school life and daily life for a variety of features offered. My only real gripe comes with using the Apple Pencil pro’s squeeze mechanism. It open and closes the tool menu just fine, but sub-menus you opened do not close upon squeezing the pencil pro. This isn’t the worst thing, but it just feels like they should close with the main tool menu.
Issues still
Still having an issue where if I zoom in and write a bit then the writing looks like vectors instead of smooth writing. Makes the document almost unusable when it happens. It is even worse when I zoom in even at just 200x…. Amazing app if you don’t have this issue. Will update review to 5 stars whenever this is fixed. I have already made the developer aware of this.
Close to being perfect..
I enjoy using zoomnotes and this is one of the best note taking apps i have used. It has literally all the features and customisation needed for a note taking app. But the clumsy and buggy User Interface is the only problem here. I would kindly make an appeal to the developers so that they focus on the ui more and improve the navigtion, icons and all sort of things in the ui. It will become the best of the best if the ui is improved. Please please please if u see this review I really want the ui to improve so that it becomes best note taker for a lot of people out there. The ui is the only thing holding me back from using ZN
I wish more apps were like this
With every option imaginable, there will be a learning curve. But once you lock down a basic workflow, it can be a powerful tool.
No tooltip help = user becomes clueless.
I just downloaded after paying $7.99, used it for couple of hours. During this time I somehow created Pages couple of them by mistake and then trying to remove them which I couldn’t but then I ended up deleting my main page which took me about 45 minutes to figure out how to change fonts and this and that and get one page going. This may be powerful, but it is definitely not user-friendly. I’m going to download good and then try that. I did use it once during trial and end. It was much better than this. I wish there was a way to get my $7.99 back. This application requires a lot of work to make it user-friendly, there was a menu option on the left side somehow I don’t know what I did or it just disappeared. I did not find any way to bring it back so that was a headache things also added on its own maybe because I’m putting my palm on the iPad as I’m typing and it opened up a new menu option and then I had some issues with that too trying to close it.
My new note taking app!
Densely featured, lots of capabilities. I do wish the documentation was a bit more complete, to dig out how to use all the features. Also, the handwriting to text needs some improvement, I’ve used other apps that are superior in this respect. Hopefully this will continue to improve in later revisions.
ONCE WAS My Go-To for Hand Notes and Sketches
Pro: Wealth of features. Cons: Exhaustive option choices; cumbersome, overly artistic, and thereby fully distracting UI; and frustrating, sometimes inconsistent boxes in boxes approach to document management. What was once my go-to is now relegated to a has-been. Ultimately, the UI look and behavior in ZoomNotes has made using it too painful. The recent overhaul adds a much needed feature but removes none of the UI pain (in some ways making it only worse). I’ve moved on to an app with comparable base features but with a crisp, effective UI design and behavior. Five stars for features. Three off for UI pains.
New review — steep learning curve but cool
I bought ZoomNotes so that I could sync my calendars and reminders to a pretty digital planner. I read that it had a steep learning curve, but I didn’t really appreciate HOW steep it was. Trying to figure out how to set up this app has been kind of a nightmare and I gave some very low scored reviews earlier in my frustration, after more than a week of trying to get it to work. Today I finally took the time to just watch Wendaful’s tutorial on how to set up ZoomNotes and really concentrate on setting it up, and I’m now getting it to work properly, so it’s turning into what I want it to do.
What can’t this app do?
Exceptional app. Literally capable of anything you can think of, with the best features of all the major note taking apps in one place. Learning curve is steep but worth it!
Disappointed
I consider myself pretty tech savvy, patient, appreciative of multiple tools… this app is ridiculous. I patiently tried setting up a planner, and after multiple deletions and complicated directions, I give up!
This app really needs blackboard and chalk texture like pencil
This is an amazing app with plenty options but when you want something like chalk style writing on blackboard, you have no option for it. Please add it🙏🙏🌺
Waste of time and money
I wish this had a trial period so I didn’t regrettably spend $8 on this for my iPad. I wanted a digital planner I could write on with my Apple Pencil that would also sync to my phone calendar. I also wanted it in a week view with the hours divided up quarterly, a bit specific and difficult to find. I read some good reviews for how customizable this app is so I gave it a sho. I had tried out a few other apps that all ended up being disappointing or frustrating in some way. Boy is this thing time consuming to set up and not at all intuitive. The UI is extremely outdated and the graphics are from 15 years ago. The developers clearly didn’t spend any budget on a graphic/UI designer. After messing with it for much longer than I have time for, I managed to set up something clunky and rudimentary. The built in generator appeared to have a lot of customizations but was actually quite limited. I managed to get my weekly view planner but some of the text were squished together and there’s no way to modify what you generated. There’s no way to add lines between the hours, change the size of reminders box, etc. The result ended up being no better than just looking on the calendar app, actually worse since it was ugly (and this is even after I changed some colors). After doing more research I realized if I wanted something better than this, I would have to spend literally hours on designing and setting up my own template. As a trained graphic designer, that appeals to part of me. But as a student and working professional, I don’t have time for that! Looking at my calendar (the Apple one and not the Ms Paint version generated by this app), I don’t have time in the near future to just carve out a day to build a planner from scratch. I’m willing to spend much more than $8 for something that is actually visually appearing and functional. This is not it.
Rocks
I've been using this software with my IPad Pro and Apple Pen for about 18 months for teaching (Engineering lectures at University). It does an excellent job, with only a few minor quibbles - sometimes, text I've written (and see on my own screen) isn't showing up on the big screen. But for the money, this has been an excellent choice. Beyond being able to mark-up my PDF notes in real time as if I were writing on an overhead projector, it also has allowed me to fill in PDF forms, to edit papers and theses, and even make hand-written notes and drawings of research-related ideas I've had. Very pleased with this software! Editing to add: I got a new iPad and Pen - the old ones were aging badly. Now ZoomNotes has a bunch of issues, some of which may be to do with the updated iPad. Connecting to a projector is now an adventure - every time. iOS now (stupidly) has this interface that allows you to either mirror or extend your display and that gets in the way, so that I have to plug in, let iOS do it’s thing, then tell ZoomNotes to display on the second display. Now it decides to display only the top left hand corner of the file in a highly zoomed form that doesn’t match the iPad screen, so I have to press and hold on the external display button on ZoomNotes, select a resolution (like 1280x640 or whatever) and then re-click, then resize the image with my fingers, and now it actually displays. This doesn’t even work reliably - sometimes have to unplug and retry that process, and, if it doesn’t work after a few goes (each go taking several seconds, where I’m standing in front of a few dozen undergraduate students looking incompetent), I eventually give up and drop out to the system settings where I tell it to just mirror the display, and now the students can see the whole editor, rather than just the display. Also, if I get a text notification during the lecture, that will now be seen by the students … far from ideal! Also, it’s now super-glitchy. The palm recognition system doesn’t work the same as it did before, so I’m often accidentally selecting tools/stuff I don’t mean to. Also, if I step away and talk for a few seconds, when I come back, it’s often in eraser mode rather than pen mode (the mode I would have left it in). It’s bad enough that I’m contemplating trying a different software package … reluctantly, because I’ve got a lot invested in ZoomNotes.
Great app!
I use this every day. You can adjust page colors & lines on the fly, customize your toolbars, so many powerful tools. It does take time to learn but it's worth the effort.
Buggy
Where are the updates?! Wow, I am barely able to use this app without it crashing constantly! All of these awesome features are useless when the app is so buggy. So frustrating! Going back to Goodnotes!
One thing missing
I’m enjoying this app over Goodnotes. Particularly where the toolbar is located. My beef is that I thought when I DL the app to my phone and ipad, it would all sync and I can read/access from multiple devices. It appears it does not and that’s the only thing lacking for me.
Everything is good apart from ui
Application is powerful, may confuse at starting only because of the way icons are designed. It’s easy to add hints don’t know why developers has not done. Please improve UI, you can acquire lots of market share by improving UI. Right now feels like I am using some 90’s tool. Higher a good ui developer.
Lags and crashes
It’s awesome when it works but it lags to open documents and tends to crash. I’ve lost work because it crashed in the middle of using it. Also lags opening documents so switching between docs is very tedious. Love the ability to adjust the tools to my needs. For the money it’s irritating having it lagging and crashing even if I love the perks.
Loving ZN but excited for its future <3
I am so thankful to the Almighty Algorithm Gods on YouTube… it showed me the channel Paperless X which inevitably lead me to the very esteemed spot I am today… sitting pretty with Zoomnotes version 8.8.27 <3! Now, every time I’m on YouTube and I get suggested silly videos for childish apps like ‘Goodnotes’ and ‘Notability,’ I scoff and open Zoomnotes with a smile on my face. It is everything that we are led to believe ‘Goodnotes’ and ‘Notability’ would like to be. They might have some name recognition yes.. but Zoomnotes actually provides everything that those apps promise to be and MORE. I am so proud to support an app that I know will one day will outshine the likes of other ‘normal’ ‘note-taking’ apps like the aforementioned. It is the most comprehensive, capable, beautiful, work of love that I will scream to the skies about until it is #1 and I am back to the mud… #EdNumber1FanClub #ZoomNotes4Ever ❕💟💖
My notes keep getting deleted
It was fine in the beginning but the notes now keep deleted by themselves
Absolutely love this app but …
I have been using this product for over three years now and overall, I do really like it. I like this better than most other notetaking apps, especially because the program allows you connect directly to Google Calendar and Apple calendar and it will automatically sync an update when appointments are added to your planners. This is absolutely excellent and has been one of the main reasons why I’ve continued to use this even though instructions and demonstrations are definitely lacking for this UI. However, I’m really interested to see if they’re going to incorporate the new tools and techniques for the Apple Pencil Pro as Goodnotes has. N As physical challenges are becoming more limiting at the store costs are incredibly useful for me and I’m truly hoping that ZoomNotes comes out with something similar to what Goodnotes has for the Apple Pencil Pro.
No Support Response
Whereas I’m impressed with the functionality of the App and I have to say it is worthy of 5 stars, little can be said regarding their Support team. I wrote with a suggested enhancement on February 15 and to date no reply has been sent, not even a thank you for your thoughts and that we’ll get back to you, purely as a matter of courtesy, hence the star mark down. Subsequently I’ve come across a bug whilst using the text facility, in that I can no longer use edit, copy etc., features, a problem I haven’t come across before which is strange. Perhaps Zoom Notes now being so versatile it has been difficult for the developers to have kept an eye on the basics. Who knows, what I can’t do is sadly recreate the situation. A one off know doubt but very annoying none the less.
Greet... Work in progress
So many amazing features but definitely harder to navigate and not overly intuitive. It also keeps randomly crashing and losing my info.
GOAT
I’ve used Goodnotes for years!! Their price hikes and shady sequels without adding features that actually worked tuned me away finally. Zoomnotes is perfect in almost every way and even better than Goodnotes in a lot of ways. Always wanted procreate style freedom and alignment tools like Canva. It does crash though
Worst UI ever
I cannot believe such a powerful App with this horrible UI. Seriously just hire a designer.
Too much padding
Not sure what happened with the new update but the padding seems to be off. I have it set to 0 percent but there’s still a lot of space around the page where I can move around, and it sort of gets annoying when I just want to move straight down but I move horizontally while doing so. It’s only like this in landscape mode, portrait mode works fine.
Nagware Ticks Me Off!
This is a good app that has loads of features for drawing. Sometimes it hangs a bit when zooming in or out but the thing that gets on my nerves is the nagware. Every other time I open the app I am asked to leave a review. There is an option "No thanks" which should tell them not to ask again (another option is "Later"). If I pay for an app I don't expect to be nagged to leave reviews. Hint to the devs; if my review is all about the nagware instead of how good the app is then, in my opinion, you are doing something wrong! That's why the low score which helps to drop your average. Otherwise, it would have been 4-5 stars!
Great app but buggy updates
App is great but every time there is update then old bugs are fixed and new bugs are introduced , sometimes zoom in window box scrolling stops , sometimes finger pan stops on pen selection , when this is fixed then there are new bugs . So unable to make it as default note taking apps due to so many bugs. If fixed then it’ll be number 1 note taking app.
Love!
I absolutely love ZoomNotes! I have stopped using Goodnotes altogether and never got into noteful. I even use ZN a lot of the time when I would have used Procreate in the past. If you are a planner girl or procreate lover like me, I think this app could help eliminate much of the back and forth. I love the responsiveness to questions and inquiries by the developer. Definitely worth every penny.
Annoying
Poor user experience overall. Annoying and irritating to use.
Almost perfect
In therms of features, there’s nothing to say! There is more than I could even think of! For the UI though, I think a little bit of work could be done.
Almost perfect BUT
Easily the most advanced features compared to the rest. But the basic features ignored, like vertical scrolling. Also would be nice to have ability to create links within pdfs.
Paid for functionalities
Hi This can be best app for note making , just need to improve UI Also handwritings recognition such as add new line, space etc. Please improve usi
Best App In The Store!
After 5+ years of daily use (as of 9/16/25): ZoomNotes is hands-down my favorite, must-have app! I rely on it for everything: planning, calendar creation, PDF reading and editing (I even transformed a plain Bible PDF by adding thousands of links and images), and fixing up the daily images I create with ChatGPT. Spelling errors? Gone. Extra fingers? Erased. ZoomNotes makes it effortless. It truly does it all—so well that I no longer need a dozen other apps. From note-taking and presentations to transparency tools and advanced editing, it’s all built in. Honestly, this is the only app you need. After years of use, I’m convinced there’s nothing ZoomNotes can’t do. I use it exclusively, and it keeps getting better with every release. Don’t be discouraged by critics—if they don’t like it, it’s because they didn’t take the time to learn it. Yes, there’s a learning curve, but just a few days of practice pays off in a huge way. ZoomNotes has replaced at least 10 other specialized apps for me, and it continues to impress. It is, without question, the best app available. Period.
Very disturbing user interface
I didn’t like the UI it’s very difficult to understand and use . I came here after using notability for zoom feature and page within page ... for note taking this app is not good but for linking pages this app is ok..
Shortcut support
It’d be super cool to have acces to this app with apple shorcuts. I know GoodNotes has this feature and it makes it easy to have lists. Wish it was avaliable for this app
Unstable
Crashes all the time. If it was stable this would be 5* but it’s very unreliable.
Good, but one massive flaw
I really want to give this 5 stars but it has one massive flaw. —————————— The ink flashes on and off as it refreshes/redraws. —————————— There seems to be a general issue with how the app is updating the view when you add/take away elements (ink etc) to the page. If they fixed that this would be an excellent app. It has some extremely well thought out features and although quite a complex UI you can customise it and hide stuff you don’t use quite easily. I want to like it better than Goodnotes but I keep going back to that as although not as powerful it is much more polished. This literally just needs that same sort of polish for the screen redraw algorithm and it would be 5 stars
Most versatile planner app in existence!!!
ZoomNotes just keeps getting better and better. The developer keeps adding new functions. I love that we continually get more options and don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee like most other apps charge. I would suggest becoming a part of the Facebook group as everyone there is very helpful with learning all the functionality. Ed, the developer, is very helpful and quick to respond if you are having issues using the app. Ed is amazing!!! I would give this app 1000 stars!!!!!
Not compatible with the Bamboo Fineline 3
I bought this app because, after purchasing the Bamboo Fineline 3, I needed a compatible app for note taking. It was extremely disappointing when it did not work, it was extremely laggy and the handwriting was illegible. I returned my Bamboo Fineline 3 because it is pointless to have it, and if I could, I would also return this app as it makes no sense for me to have it if I cannot use it. I feel very disappointed because it is NOT compatible with the Bamboo Fineline 3 and it was stated that it is. Therefore, I also feel a bit scammed. I hope you don’t make the same mistake as me. Cheers.
Great but could be better
Works well, but sometimes I have to restart it cause the writing response stops. Really annoying when this happens, but its occasionally.
Excellent Array of Features, Poor Stylus Integration
This app has a wide array of features and is customisable in extensive ways, making it easy to organise your notes, your toolbars, pens, shapes etc. However, writing using an Adonit Jot Touch 4 is often a pain. The app randomly deletes or fails to record stylus inputs, making it a very frustrating experience. Disabling Adonit’s palm rejection helps somewhat, with all inputs being recognised, but the app still deletes text at random. I tried disabling all shape recognition aids, cross-out to delete, and other similar features, to no avail. While the app attempts to differentiate between stylus and finger inputs and discard the latter, the implementation is very poor, and there seems to be no option to disable this while the bug is (hopefully) fixed. In short, a prime example of too many features crammed into an app, making it a pain to get it to work just right. I suggest you look elsewhere if you are merely looking to jot down notes, and are not interested in complex pen customisation, shapes etc.
Please fix bugs
