unifies all my devices
This app is outstanding. I use Notebooks on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows. It seamlessly syncs across all devices so I have the must current view no matter which device I am using. I can compose, edit and take notes on my iPhone with everything synced on all devices. Its invaluable.
Un incontournable dépassé
2026-08 Atteint ses limites. Apres plusieurs années de bons et loyaux services, et plusieurs giga de data, ne sait pas gérer les milliers de fichiers. Se bloque systématiquement. 2019-04 S’intègre parfaitement dans un environnement GTD Est à la pointe du classement avec des recherche Hashtag Je l’utilise depuis plus de 9 ans
A brilliant helpful notebook app
A notebook engine wrapped around giant storage that allows each file to maintain its original file format. Easy to keep in notes and easy to share with no proprietary notebook behavior. Tasks! One line or an entire notebook can be turned into a tasks and a check box for a to-do list so it's also a to-do list engine interconnected to the storage files and the words in the notebooks. This is not your normal notebook app! Brilliant design. I love it and it synchronizes with all my devices including Mac. The developer is also incredibly kind, intelligent and attentive. Connected to family account, buy it once and share with the family. Huge value for the money. Highly recommend! 👏🏽💝🌹
Mise à jour ?
Avec les dernières mises à jour de iOS, 18.6.2, l’application fonctionne très mal plus que des lenteurs… à quand la prochaine mise à jour de l’application ?
Technical Issues
I recently bought this upgrade from the previous app, hoping that some features from the previous would disappear. I don’t like the idea that bolding, italicizing, and etc… would get rid of the symbols at the start and end of the portion highlighted. It ruins the flow of writing. Lastly, I can’t indent the starting sentence of a paragraph. The old app allows me to do this, this one does not.
Minor Issue
I can’t swipe my document to another document, and I can’t make side-by-side documents either. I couldn’t even swipe document in side-by-side before as well. I am dissatisfied.
Data gone!
I have used Notebooks for years and have been generally happy with it. However, with the most recent update every last bit of data in my app is gone. Wiped out without warning. I have tried reaching out to the developer, but have still heard back nothing. Caution about using this app for anything important. You may never see your notes again.
Frustrating
It comes with lots of info on the various functions but it’s not so hot on explaining how they work (at one point describing them as mostly self explanatory 😂) I guess it’s not really an app for newbies. The more I use it the more I get the hang of it and it’s certainly better value for money than Evernote. The one off payment is actually quite reasonable for what you get. So I’m not complaining but it needs an “idiots guide” along side the “I assume you know what I’m talking about” guide.

Eigentlich noch gut.
Aber auch wenn ich Lesemodus in eine Notiz klicke bin ich sofort im Bearbeitungsmodus. Das ist unpraktisch, gerade wenn man z.b. Codeblöcke etc. kopieren möchte. Oder ich habe es noch nicht herausgefunden, denn das Menü ist in diesen Punkten nicht das übersichtlichste.
10 years and running
I’m going on 10+ years with Notebooks. It has been my go-to notes app and will always be. Just sophisticated enough to provide all you need. Just simple enough to not overwhelm you with all you don’t need.

Pretty good Notes app
I've been using it over the years for various writing projects. However, the formatting leaves a lot to be desired. OK--found increase font size under Settings. Overall it's a handy app; however, I don't use nor understand Markdown and the UI is just confusing. Not my go-to Notes app; I use Apple Notes or Craft. I do like this one to open up and view Web Archives.
You reintroduced bugs
You delete negative reviews. You have no idea how to ‘library’ software and version control. Again, you brought back the defect where a paragraph immediately followed on the next line by a hyphen, then when saved, that paragraph changes to all bold font. And for the brief time that your app worked properly, it also loaded a lot faster. Now it’s back to go do something while it’s loading. So we’ll see if you delete this review too.
Wish this app would fulfill its huge potential and not stagnate.
It would be great to have the option to add a quick capture feature to the Lock Screen, similar to what’s available in the standard Notes app or many other note-taking apps. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t seem to support some of the newer iOS features, which limits its convenience. Additionally, there’s no way to clip web content, and saved links aren’t available offline—they’re not even cached, which is a missed opportunity. On the positive side, the Markdown support is excellent and one of the main reasons I prefer this app over Apple Notes. However, the lack of an easily accessible # symbol in the mobile interface makes using Markdown more cumbersome than it should be. This undermines one of the app’s core strengths. The app would also benefit from rich link previews. I doubt that people don’t care about this. It just makes finding things a lot easier. If the developer is interested in bringing the app more in line with current iOS capabilities, features like Drafts-style widgets and Lock Screen integration could make a big difference. With just a bit more refinement, this app could go from good to truly outstanding.
The best markdown software I have found in the Apple ecosystem
Simple yet complex and absolutely beautiful. Loving it and absolutely worth the price. Thanks for the wonderful app.
So slow and buggy it’s not useable
Hangs, crashes, hangs, crashes. Great idea but cannot handle iCloud or large libraries.

Sync nicht automatisch
Leider wird bei webdav nicht automatisch synchronisiert wodurch es immer wieder zu unterschiedlichen ständen kommt. Damit ist es für mich nicht zu gebrauchen

Please offer the feature of having different color words ON THE SAME PAGE. When I change the color, it changes the whole page. I would like to have One line in black, one line in red, one line blue, etc. . . . .
The backbone of my information system
I have used Notebooks since I had an iPhone 3S. It has tons of info I’ve collected for years. And now it has so many more features than it did then. They’ve done a great job updating and providing a super high quality tool for organizing information and actions.
It doesn’t sync anymore!
Please fix the sync feature! It just started timing out whenever I try to sync. Nothing is wrong otherwise. If you can’t fix this, please refund my money.

I have used this app since 2018. I changed to the iPhone 14 pro. I redownloaded the app and now everything is gone. Please help
Export have no WORD option
The switch from reading to annotation is poorly implemented. This means that when annotating, the app will take you to the first page of the document. Similarly, when switching back to read mode, it will take you to the top of the document again. This makes for a poor reading experience. I think it's trying to be too many things and forgets essentials. Or maybe they do not see reading as an important feature. The only option is to go back to Devon ThinkToGo that have not updated for a long while now. They skipped ios13 entirely, does not have multiple windows nor dark mode. Yet, it still does basic tasks very well. (Such as reading and being able to annotate, organise files, etc). Edit: The developer claims it is ios problem. It is time to work with another writing engine ... this is because apple will try to make everyone use Apple notes when we would like options as well as Apple notes. They will not fix these issues quickly enough. Please fix so that I can use this wonderful app! I'll be happy to switch from devon Edit: This app is the only Markdown app that allows styling by css right in the app. Therefore, this WOULD have been my go-to writing app if can only export WORD, not just PDF.
Outstanding app with one fatal flaw
I love this app! Perfect for making notes and viewing my admittedly quite large collection of years of notes… I would absolutely give this app 5 stars, but i’m unable to do so as I use an external location for my notebook. It’s all stored on a server, which I use a VPN to access. When I enter the notebooks app, I need to reselect my external location each time… The app is never open when I connect to my network, or leave home, when the VPN automatically connects (all my phone’s network traffic goes through it) - If this issue could be fixed, 5 Stars all the way… I plan on keeping my purchase, but hope this issue is looked in to.
Tried them all. This is the best for my work flow.

great accesibility with voice over!
the ease of use with voice over plus the ability to categorize notes, compress multiple text files into a single document, and many other features listed in the description set this app apart. Adding this app to my life meant finally getting rid of the other four or five filled with clutter!
New Changes
Don’t like the new changes especially since we had to pay for them. The old system was much better and easier to use. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Great app
This has been my favorite notebook app for years, but recently (in iOS 18.5 and now in iOS 26.0). Working well in 26.0. 👍🏻
after years of use, large data base App becomes unusable
after years of use, accumulating a large amount of data, upgrading to iOS 17.4 stopped Notebooks syncing and thus became unusable. Extremely disappointed....
You CAN still sync it with Dropbox. It’s just hard to find
I initially wrote a bad review because it says it doesn’t sync with Dropbox. But actually it does He wrote….. This version still synchronizes with Dropbox, no worries. - Please bear in mind that you can set Notebooks to either sync with Dropbox or sync with iCloud. So I guess that you have set Notebooks to store its documents on iCloud. To change that, open Notebooks' settings > Locations and switch to "this iPhone/iPad". When done, you find Dropbox as an option in Notebooks' sync settings."
Stability Concerns
2023-01-23: I downloaded this app about 15 minutes ago and it has crashed several times on my iPad. The feature set is very versatile with many export formats and the feature to set up a book as a task list is actually the type of functionality I am looking for to be able to track projects and project notes over extended periods of time. And I like that data is not collected. It was also positive that there appears to be continuous development and maintenance. Other apps I have used do not appear to be supported any more so it’s risky to keep using them.
Great app
I really enjoy this app and keep coming back to it. I particularly enjoy the wi-fi sync option and the responsive developer as I’ve run into a couple markdown issues and always get a quick response. I hope a future update incorporates some sort of journal or the apple journal options and maybe more templates, but its easy enough for me to just duplicate a doc and add a date for now. Great handwriting recognition as well.
Notebooks for Mac Sticker Shock—Even Worse, Lost Documents Upon iPhone Upgrade
Thinking to expand my use of Notebooks 11 for iPhone as a writing tool (and to facilitate moving notes from my phone to my laptop—which I still struggle with getting to work reliably), I looked into buying the Notebooks 2 for mac. Ouch! What’s wanted is nearly US$40, with NO apparent discount for already have purchased the application and module for iPhone. Frankly, I was expecting a price of about half that. I’m not exactly “rolling in it” and have to manage my resources carefully (e.g. refurbished mid-2012 MacBook Pro, refurbished iPhone 7). I think I will have to wait to buy the mac version for full integration. Even worse, when I upgraded my phone, documents I had stored on my old phone within Notebooks didn’t move over to the new. There’s probably a way I can drill down and cause this to happen (good thing I saved the old phone), and because the documents are important original written work, I will have to do this. The thing is: I shouldn’t have to. Documents should move over like everything else does during a phone upgrade. Fail.
Excellent iOS Notebook App
I have been using Notebooks for iOS (and MacOS) for several years and am very impressed. Feature rich but not bloated with useless gimmicks or updated only for the sake of updating it provides a complete system for note taking and organizing, including PDF support. The upfront cost might seem expensive but you only pay once and aren’t forced to “rent” it forever like with so many other similar, but poorer quality, products so the price is actually quite reasonable. A very robust and flexible product. I highly recommend it.
CLAVIER ÉTENDU À SE BRICOLER ? Bonne idée, mais... dommage car pas simple du tout...
Bonjour quelqu'un aurait-il compris comment obtenir dans l'application, le même clavier que sur les images ci-dessus de présentation de Notebooks ? Certes il y a le tuto pour modifier le clavier... Mais c'est pour moi un casse-tête incompréhensible à réaliser, malgré l'apparente simplicité du mode d'emploi. En fait au final, si l'idée proposée par l'application est de pouvoir customiser son clavier de l'application, c'est génial ! Mais pourquoi ne pas fournir dès l'achat de l'application, le même clavier étendu que sur ces images ci-dessus, qui lui, est (déjà) supérieur à bon nombre d'applications de traitement de texte ? Dommage d'acheter NoteBooks en partie pour son clavier interne, si c'est pour passer une matinée à tenter d'ajouter des flèches de défilement sans y parvenir, puis devoir acheter une autre application avec un meilleur clavier ou devoir emporter partout un clavier externe blutooth, pour rester en NoteBooks ? Franchement, un clavier externe, ça déforme les poches... (je plaisante) . Souhaitant (si l'application reste maintenue à jour par ses créateurs), que le clavier étendu exactement comme sur les photographies de présentation de Notebooks en App.Store, soit fourni dès l'achat et ouverture de l'application, plutôt que de se retrouver devant un moteur à réparer quand on veux juste écrire et nul en mécano... Mais si quelqu'un a compris comment utiliser les "réglages" de l'appli. pour avoir un vrai clavier étendu, merci d'avance de proposer un tuto salvateur ! (3 étoiles car un brin vexé ou déçu).
The BEST notes app!
I can sort, I can create books (folders), I can undo - pretty much all the things I wasn’t able to do with the iPhone Notes app. Worth every penny!! 🤩
Watch App Stinks
Downloaded this app because the watch integration seemed great. However, the only button on the watch app is “New Task”. Nothing else. I can’t see my documents or tasks (even the ones I created from the watch). Just spent $12 on this app (and I even purchased the extra $3 custom storage location). Complete waste. Really wanted to like this app, but truly the app experience is utterly horrible. I’m using an Apple Watch SE (purchased in 2023).
Loved this app but a couple frustrations
Going to keep this brief because I just lost a longer draft of this review by switching apps to confirm details of my review.. (Not my day for technology!) Basically the app worked great until I had several hundred documents, and now it’s constantly getting stuck slowed down while syncing with iCloud for 30-60 seconds, where typing is impossible and you just have to leave the app open and wait. If you do type, it will create duplicate versions of your documents that you will then have to manually go through, to see which is the most recent version and delete the other(s). Also, it’s way too easy to accidentally delete instances of a word via Find & Replace, while searching for a term. There’s no confirmation before or way to undo this. Nor is there any way to just Search, the replace button is always lurking…The Replace button is right next to the button to clear the search text field, and while the app was slowed down, I must have accidentally hit the Replace button and not cleared the text field, and then if you hit space bar (right next to “next” button [next instance of word—located on the return key]), you’re screwed. The replace/repace all buttons are at the bottom of the screen in the keyboard area at that point so if you’re continuing to try to type/ if the app glitches/slows down for a sec, you can easily hit them by accident. 23x instances of a word I was searching for deleted from a 30k word document, with no way to fix it, except to manually read through and locate, write the word back in throughout. I’d had issues with this feature before, but never to this extent. Trying to test it now to confirm details of how it’s happened in the past but the app keeps crashing.. Anyway, if it sounds improbable, you just have to imagine that you’re typing quickly, and that it’s a simple series of misclicks, since all of these buttons are in the keyboard area. At the point of it having happened to me multiple times, I imagine I can’t be the only one.. Similarly, I think it’s absurd to have a delete button on the toolbar. Who is this for? It’s easy enough to un-delete a document but I don’t know why it needs to be in the corner all the time. Anyway, I’ll probably just go back to the original version of Notebooks, despite liking other features of the newer version, and manually syncing documents to laptop being annoying/fallible bc these issues^ have become sooo frustrating.

After many years using Notebooks I can say the experience has been great and the customer support is outstanding.
Constant Crashing
I’m about to ask for my money back. Ever since I upgraded from 8 to 10 I have experienced consistent program shutdowns to the point where this is unusable on my iPad Pro. Disappointing.
Useful. Could be more useful.
I am rapidly coming to use this app regularly, for quick collection of sources in a handy spot for later use of them in a final product. It would be easier if file-creation could be done quickly from the point of saving rather than having to open the app and pre-prepare the file for receiving the filing.
