Loses Critical Information
Recurring transactions do not automatically enter as set. Latest update removed appearance features which is difficult for dyslexics like me. Updates should warn if features will be removed or appearance changed. I thought the failure to enter recurring transactions would be “fixed” by the update. It wasn’t. I’m going back to a paper ledger because I’m sick of this “bait and switch,” removing previously “free” features to try to force you to upgrade. Do not recommend.
User for over 10 years
Not too keen on seeing two different balances. There should be a way to toggle off “available now”
Last update made it unusable
After the last update, my wife and my apps do not sync up correctly. We have tried to email support and the email just bounces back. Ridiculous that we pay for premium and get subpar performance.
Not thrilled with update
Love using the electronic checkbook, but find it too clunky after the recent big update. Way too many fields. Amount, payee and date should be at top since those are of primary importance. Don’t like that I have to scroll down to enter date.
Using since 2019
I have been using this app since 2019. I know this because I can see my register all the way back to the first entry. Hands down the best one out there. Thank you for providing a basic register without the unnecessary fluff. And thanks for your latest update!!
Crashes all the time
Every update makes this app more unreliable. Change the category, crash. Correct the name, crash. Change expense to income, crash. Time to move on. This app was great a yr ago.
Perfectly Simple
This is exactly what I was looking for without all the extra features that come with a lot of the finance apps that make it too busy and complicated. The only thing I wish they would add is a feature that hides cleared transactions so you can quickly view what is still pending
I like it and do not like the app
I like the idea of being able to share the app with your spouse. I do not like having to choose categories for everything!! The app needs a toggle switch to turn off categories. I have used a checkbook app for the last 4 years on my phone. However, moving from android to Apple forced me to change apps. The transition for this app has been a challenge. I think if there was a category toggle switch it would relieve a lot of my frustration.

Right Price and Perfect for a Couple
This APP plain and simple does what it says at a crazy cheap price that keeps your budget on track and allows your other half to follow along and make entries from their device. You can’t beat the value to functionality. PERIOD!!!

Great app
Great app. Have used this for years and it’s very reliable. I’m not a big fan of the recent upgrade though. Sometimes it doesn’t remember categories like it used to and it’s messed up my credit card balances. I had to add fake entries to fix my balances.

It serves a temporary purpose, but I prefer the program I have on my desktop, which unfortunately is not compatible with iPad. This one can be cumbersome to find things and the categories, which are required to move forward, often do not apply to the purpose of the entry. I have to do a lot of “winging it.”
Great simple app
I am surprised at how simple this app is to use, yet it provides so much info! Highly recommend!
Super basic
1- can’t add multiple vendors. 2- it is not easy to add vendors or categories. 3- no sorting ability. 4- no “select all” options. This is a very very basic app.
Update
The most recent update is terrible, IMO. Having to change dates when you change pmt amounts on recurring payments is a PITA.

Seems to never balance, always off by 0.02
Best Checkbook App
I have been using this simple checkbook for years and years - across both Android and iPhones. It’s simple and gives you straight checkbook entry / reconcile functionality . I started trying other checkbook apps because it had been a really long time since this perfect app was updated and I worried it would no longer run on my older iPhone but NO OTGER ALL I TRIED gave me just a simple checkbook. They were all full of these bells and whistles that I didn’t want. Now the app has been updated and you can choose to have the bells and whistles, but the app works great and I no longer worry about it not running on my iPhone. The developer has even made some handy improvements. Very responsive to feedback. I just think this I should be the checkbook app that everyone tries. It’s really that good. Thank you for future proofing this app!! You’re the best!!
“Added AI”
I don’t know who told you this was a good idea for a simple ledger app, but they lied to you.
The update ruined the app
This was a great app. It was easy to read, the register was easy to fill out and clear. Now it feels clumsy. What goes where? Payee - description- category. And now when I open the app I have to go thru an additional screen advertising another app that while free I don’t need or want. Can’t remove it either. I have used this app for years. Customer service is helpful but WHY CHANGE WHAT WASNT BROKEN?
Not thrilled with update
I’ve been using Checkbook-Ledger for several years now and it serves my needs very well. Recently it was updated and now to add a transaction to my register I have to open my checking account, hit the + key, close that out and hit the plus key second time to add my entry. the first time I hit the plus key it wants me to add a new account. Very annoying when I already have a checking account and am just trying to add a current transaction.

Bad updates
You don’t see your initial balance amount until you click on it! You can’t save it if you don’t put descriptions it’s annoying
Doesn’t Balance correctly by Pennys
It’s the dumbest thing. I love this app. But. It makes me crazy sometimes. I could enter $75 income, then $75 expense. The balance should be $0. $75 + and $75 - equals $0. But instead it will show $.01 either positive or negative. Alternatively, I can enter $75 as an expense (or income) and the outstanding will show $74.99. I’m constantly entering data entries for “Balance” and a Penny. On some occasions even the penny will not change the apps math. A few times, I’ve added a Penny. Added a penny. Removed a Penny. Added a penny. Then it equals $0. But if I do $.03 and .01 it doesn’t recognize the math at all. Mostly I love this app and have used it for 5 years. It’s my favorite one. But the Penny math is making me crazy. Update 5/2026, software updated. Now all of the font is too small. Needs to be 1 or 2 larger. I miss the roll calendar instead of the 30 day view. Still doesn’t balance by pennys, as high as 13 cents!
Good enough
I I have used this app for many years and it does well enough but has one huge flaw. When entering in transactions it will give predictions on your text based on your previous saved expenses. But when you press the selected text, 9 times out of 10 it will not pick the text but instead will insert random letters not even relevant to the letters you originally entered. It’s become very annoying over the years.

Took a good product and made it worse
1. It now takes 2 steps to get to my information 2. I have to scroll down to get to the date. I didn’t used to do that. 3. I haven’t found any improvements yet.

Not liking the new update so much. It looks great but a little more complicated. I liked the simplicity of how it used to be

Have been using app for years and love using.
Long time user
I’ve been using this app for many years, it’s easy to use and I manage numerous accounts with it. I’m so happy to have the search functionality back at the individual account level as well as for all accounts with the most recent update, I missed that badly when it was a removed a few years ago. I do wish I could generate spend reports by merchant or expense name in addition to expense category. Regardless, excellent app with good functionality and stable, consistent performance.
The best if all
This is the best app of all ledger ones. Support is the best. Suggested a change to make the app even better and guess what…it was done within hours and was available just a few days later. Before this, I had 2 apps …now this one dies it all!!! I highly recommend it.
