3/5 not good for professional suggestions
If you are just playing casually then of course this helps but if you were trying to be as good as a pro this is NOT the app for you. It sometimes gives wrong suggestions that it shouldn’t be giving. I can see better more professional moves than this app could. Rarely it will show some pro moves like sacrifices but very rarely.
Trust me - as the creators say, Absolutely worth the money
(Following this is the default praise from the app creator, but it’s true. I’m a beginner and have played this for years. Brilliant especially for those learning the game). Really good app. Good for beginners. You can set difficulty very, very low and ramp up slowly as you beat progressively higher AI settings. Free app requires you to win a certain amount to keep playing, which means you'll tend to stay at a comfortable level. Paid app removes that so you can challenge yourself.
Unverschämt
Es wird Werbung mit den Lernfunktionen gemacht. Man kauft die App für 15€. Nachdem man dann in künstlich aufgeblähten Lektionen gelernt hat, was jede einzelne Figur kann, soll man dann für hoffentlich sinnvollere Lektionen noch einmal 5€ drauflegen. Nach dem Motto: Jetzt habe ich schon 15€ bezahlt, jetzt kommt es auf weitere 5 nicht mehr an. Das ist einfach nur dreist und unverschämt. Wer weiß wann ich dann noch zahlen soll? So dreisten Entwicklern fällt da bestimmt noch einiges ein. Also: Finger weg von dieser App und von solchen Entwicklern.
Arrows and Hints are too bold.
Love the game, but this latest incarnation has ruined the gui for me. Please give an option to set the arrows red and green ones etc, as thin or bold, or just dump the bold. Thanks.
Rip off
Purchased for $14.99 only to discover you have to pay for additional lessons beyond piece movement. No mention of having “in app purchases”. Save your money, it’s a rip-off!

Seit Tagen wird immer wieder das Update angezeigt obwohl längst installiert ist. Und es lässt sich jedesmal neu installieren. Sieht so aus das ein Rückmeldung vergessen wurde die besagt das es schon installiert ist. Ansonsten macht die App viel Spaß. 👍

The latest update isn’t working. Every day for the last few days, it shows that it needs an update and I update it and it doesn’t update.
Plays good games.
Has interesting Master/tournament games. Wish it had search features to help select which players, year, location you want to see. I highly recommend this app!

Extra cost
I had played the free version for a while and then decided to pay the $10.00 for the pro version. I enjoyed the pro version until I decided to do the lessons. After learning the pieces and how they move there is a $4.99 charge to complete the lessons. This charge is deceptive and dishonest, there is no mention of this additional charge when paying for the pro version. Totally ruined a good experience I purchased the app before the lessons were added so I had no idea that there would be a charge. If there was a notice that after a trial (or a set number of lessons) there would be a charge I would not have felt deceived.
Best chess game app out there
It would be great if you could play different openings by name. I’ve been using this app for years and it’s the greatest. You can play against the computer and work your way up the Elo difficulty ladder. You can save games and import games to watch and learn. I do wish that the developer would create a set of PGN lessons to import. I would buy a lesson plan to help learn specific openings and strategies. But even just as is Chess Pro is the Best!
No help function
I recently downloaded this highly rated chess app paid the fees and started the lessons. If get stuck on a lesson there is no help or hint function, you are left to struggle on your own. I would not recommend this app

…except that (unless I have missed something in which case please let me know) it still can’t resign (my 34 year old chess computer can do that) nor offer, accept or refuse a draw.
Tutoriel nul et très cher pour une version non complète.
Bonjour, en payant je pensais avoir accès à toutes les fonctionnalités, l’entraînement, ne fait pas partie du prix… Alors que c’est plus de 25 €, je trouve ça hallucinant. Normalement quand on paye pour une application, on paye pour sa totalité. Du coup, pourquoi je n’ai pas accès à tous les entraînements ? Seulement à la première partie, complètement nul, où l’on vous explique comment on bouge les pièces… De plus, je trouve qu’on vous donne les coups à faire, certes, quatre coups, cela dit, vous ne comprenez pas pourquoi ni dans quel contexte. Je trouve que pour une application qui se dit instructive, nous n’apprenons pas grand-chose. Il n’y a aucune aide à part savoir quel coup je devrais peut-être faire. Mais cela ne m’explique pas pourquoi je devrais le faire. Donc en vrai, ça ne sert pas à grand chose…
Interesting app but paid lessons worthless.
The app is great in its free version. Paid version provides some evaluation but no real tutoring or insight into opening, mid-game, or endgame strategies. The paid lessons are basic intro to chess stuff and virtually worthless.

The game orientation is landscape and it can’t be changed in the iPad, it’s so annoying, why not just allow portrait with no distractions??????

Some features are not good at all
The « analyze my game » feature is really bad. It’ll say your move was bad when you played the best move, even the game engine whilst the analyze feature is running was suggesting that same « bad move » as the best move in the position. Take the coaching aspect of this with a grain of salt. Also never got updated since I purchased the game, years ago. Stockfish, on the other hand, has gotten from 3150 elo up to 3600 now. If you’re somewhat a « strong » player, this is nothing special.

Great app
I’m enjoying the app and slowly improving. I like the analysis stuff and that I can go back moves to try a different approach. the interface is nice but wish I had more context sometimes, in particular for why a move was a bad one. It’s not always apparent, for newer players, who something was or wasn’t good choice and the analysis isn’t always clear on the ‘why’. Oh and no ads which is great. Would buy again.
Ok
I wrote a review about this app some considerable time ago and praised it to high heaven. Now that I’ve had more experience with it I’m not quite as positive as I was, though I have to say I still like the appearance and user interface. Moreover, the engine is easily strong enough to beat me. However, when playing Black at my lowly level I would expect to face 1 e4 or 1 d4 most of the time, with the odd smattering of other openings thrown in. But the app is fixated by 1 c4, 1 Nf3 and particularly 1 f4, all of which you get far more often than either 1 e4 and 1 d4. And if you force it to play 1 e4 or 1 d4 it often forgets that it has an opening book and plays some very strange moves. On the iPad version I have found that after a while it reaches a point where it will ONLY open with 1 Nf3, and then not long afterwards the squares disappear and the board turns entirely black. You then have to delete the app and reinstall it. In the ‘Settings’ menu there is an item that allegedly allows you to report a problem. When I tried to use this a message came up saying my iPad isn’t configured to send e-mails, which it clearly is because I use it for that every day. So it would seem the app is far from bug-free. When it’s working properly the gameplay is good and I’m generally very happy with it, apart from now being well sick of the sight of 1 f4. But trying to get it to play the two most common opening moves with proper frequency proves very wearing after a while.
Simple fix
It would be good if I didn’t have to keep selecting that I want to stay as player white.

It feels wrong
This chess game, as much as it sounds like I’m whining, feels like it cheats badly! It says it plays at an 800 ELO rating but it feels more like you’re playing a grandmaster than an average player. It’s frustrating! I regret buying it!
Check (it out) Mate
Pros: Great functionality with lots of options to personalise the board, pieces, sounds, and opponent strengths. Usual ‘save game’ and wide range of ‘famous match’ board set ups. Helpful hints (if needed) and game notation included. Cons: Openings can feel a little repetitive even with the opening book option set to ‘yes’. Game review and move ratings can seem bizarrely questionable - a pawn move to promotion (when an obvious move) is give as a ‘genius’ move!! Overall - very playable and trouble-free over the 7000 games I’ve played on the app.
Bitte endlich Auflösungsanpassung für das iPad Pro 11 Zoll
Trotz Supportanfrage vor 2 Monaten nicht einmal eine Antwort erhalten. Finde ich schade dass es für die 11 Zoll Version keine Unterstützung gibt (daher schwarze Ränder rundherum), da es das iPad schon über 1 Jahr gibt.

Good game, tricky at times.
Its fun but flawed
Not played chess in years. Used to be a club member with middle order grade. Its fun to play chess again and on the whole its enjoyable, but. I have progressed to level 2000 and the app seems to think the bishop is a good swap for a queen. Many a good game ruined when the app takes my bishop at the loss of a queen and no positional game. The next move an threat buttons are great tools for beginners. So one of the better chess apps, but shame about a few programming flaws. Needs work but could be 5 stars if it gets the game play stronger.

Really great way to improve chess playing
Very happy with the powerful and flexible features of this excellent app. I played chess at school and occasionally since. Now I’m retired and finding this a really useful way to keep my brain active while relearning chess strategies.
Almost really good
As an experiment I ran a few games where I played the strongest suggested moves after the analysis timed out. I lost 2/3 of them.
The additional low cost $ to purchase is worth it

Waited to long for the upgraded Version of Pro, which is excellent for help and feedback of learning Chess these recent months.
