What people like
- Accurate for film photography
- Simple and easy to use
- Useful logging and note features
- Great backup for broken cameras
What they complain about
- Freezes constantly after iOS updates
- Developer has stopped supporting it
- Ads are distracting and ugly
- Spot metering seems inaccurate
front camera only??
Opening the app, it only uses the front facing camera. There is no option to turn it around.
camera doesn’t show
when i open the app my camera isn’t being used
The best reflective light meter option on the App Store.
No layers of UI to work through like many of the other options and the ‘old’ UI mode operates much faster (like a real light meter). It would be nice if the UI was based more around a real light meter, but functionally it’s great for checking white balance of lights on set and spot metering for film cameras.
iOS18.3でフリーズ
iphone15proで使用。1/48などのcine speedが使えるので動画用として重宝していましたがiOS18.3にアップデートしたら、起動後5秒くらいでフリーズします。
Love this App BUT..
I'm experiencing a problem where the app suddenly freezes when I try to meter a spot for more than four seconds. I added this feature as a shortcut using the action button on both my iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I'm encountering the same issue on both devices. I would appreciate the opportunity to share my experience in more detail.
Then best light meter APP
I have used this app for many yet, tried other APPs, this is so far the best I have tried.
Problem with app
App works well until phone goes to sleep and you open it back up. Then doesn’t work. Means I have to close and reopen the app every time I use it.
Needs a bug update.
It’s a great, simple to use app and I’ve been using it for years. However, there’s a bug which causes the app to freeze and not respond to light changes (what is worse is that it is not obvious as the app seems to work normal, so it can lead to completely wrong readings). I hope it gets updated soon. It tends to happen when the front facing camera is used (not sure if also present when main camera is used).
Was great…
It was a five star app but after upgrading to iOS 18 it freezes every time.
Worked great, until iOS 18
The app worked really well until iOS 18 was released. Now it’s constantly freezing. Please update!
Update works on iOS 18.3.1 on iPhone 14 Pro!
Thank you, thank you thank you!
Used to be good
This was my go-to meter app for a long time. Now it just freezes after a couple of seconds. Really needs an update!
Great needs one more thing for 5 Stars
In settings you should be able to set an Aperture min and max setting. Also a Time min and max setting.
Used to be great
This used to be fabulous but has not been updated in years and stalls constantly under iOS 18. Seems to no longer be supported.
It’s great but..
I’m kinda bummed out it won’t work on android. It kinda of already looks like an android UI, so… :D Idk, please consider android users! My S24 Ultra is a beast of a phone.
Excelente
La mejor aplicación que hay la utilizo todo el tiempo
Freezes
Was a great app. But needs update as it freezes after a couple of seconds use.
The Best…..so far
This is really the best iPhone Exp Meter available. The only thing holding back the 5 star rating is the cheesy font and background in the logged photos. Needs modernization and a few graphic interface improvements. Adding the ability to assign Hold and Log buttons using the iPhone up and down volume buttons would make this a killer app. Please keep developing this app and hopefully add the button feature.
フリーズします
iPhone16 Proで使用すると、5秒ほどで画面がフリーズし使用できなくなります。
Pretty accurate. Easy to use. Needs update
Accurate. Easy to use. Bug changing the EV compensation where you have to force quit the app.
Successful Use For 10 Years
I’ve used this app for all of my light metering of analog film photography. With slide-film, my results are precise and that can be attributed to the accuracy of the meter app’s readings.
What happened?
The app keeps hanging with the latest IOS. There’s been no updates in 5 years so I guess the app is dead?
It works!
Simple and easy to use
Not accurate enough
Meter reading with the app aren’t as accurate as a camera meter or a spot/ incident meter. I only use this if I am desperate. Even using Sunny 16, adjusted to your environment after a few months of testing, is more accurate.
Works but poor documentation
Just not sure about the accuracy of this. It has a “spot” field which can be moved around. However the spot field isn’t documented anywhere that I can find (absolute size or accuracy). It differs somewhat from my spot meter and the discrepancy bother me. Only discovered support for 160 ASA by changing options (doesn’t default to showing 160).
A good tool for the job!
I’m a professional portrait event photographer. I’ve been using it for years, and it’s an excellent tool.
No update. App freezes
DO NOT BUY! dev has not update app and freezes seconds after opening
A useful tool
This app is useful for cameras that don’t have a light meter. Don’t overlook the log feature. Being able to add a note is also very useful. I’m not aware of the angle of view fir the metered light. It would be useful to be able to change that to match the focal length of the lens used. Otherwise very nice!
Doesn’t log wb
As a videographer, main reason I bought this was to measure white balance on location. The fact that it doesn’t record wb when you log is extremely disappointing.
Decent
Very handy and portable
Newbie at this
I am by no means a professional at this. But it’s easy to use for an amateur and so far seems to be matching my digital camera settings. I am using it for my foray into film and also to get better at choosing my own settings with digital. So far the film pictures also seem to be coming out about right.
Doesn’t work on iOS 18
With the iOS 18 upgrade, this app slows down & freezes just a few seconds after opening.
Great light meter in the palm of my hand
Shot a few rolls using this app as the light meter. They came out great. Exposures were accurate on B&W film. Simplified my travel set up and allows me to carry my Leica IIIf around without a light meter.

pocket light meter
J’ai téléchargé l’application, et il m’est impossible de la mettre en français. Alors comment faire?
Consistent Results
I shoot on an old TLR film camera and I use this as my light meter. I always get consistent results so I’ve used this app solely for years!
Freezing
After using this app for over a year with no issues, its starting to freeze.
Crashed
With my iPhone Xs MAX iOS 13.3.1, this app crashes every time during launching the app??? Please fix it, thank you
Evaluation médiocre
De grosses erreurs dans la mesure de lumière en général que ce soit en intérieur ou en extérieur. Application peu fiable à déconseiller donc.
Ok, not great.
Was looking for a spotmeter app, noticed that this one has a marked area in the centre presumably to mark the metered area. However, app seems to take an average over the whole image area so I have no idea what the marked centre area is supposed to be for. This meter only locks in after the phone's camera has finished compensating for the scene, and is very slow to settle on an exposure reading after that. Adverts look horrible and are really distracting.
Great.
Works really well!
Don’t buy
This app is no longer supported by the maker but they still sell it. I tried to buy the option and the developer told me they no longer support this app.
Review
It’s fab for a derby
Not good
After the upgrade the app not measure correctly whit my iPhone 5s! Please check and solve it!
Unstable
I've loved using this app so far and it's been really accurate but since the update the readings keep flashing unstable. Not sure if I can rely on it any more and since I only shoot film it would be too costly to find out if it's accurate.
Accurate for Shooting video and film
Seems silly to use your iPhone to check your light settings, but for some of my medium format cameras that no longer have working meters, this is fantastic. Set it time ISO film you’re using and can even log as you go. Can’t wait to run around the city sigh some 800!CineStill in my 120 camera!
Save your money
The setting will not automatically adjust. The shutter speed is the only thing that moves. Aperture and ISO don’t move unless I move them. What’s the point! Save your money.
quite effective
been using this app when shooting with an old film camera, seems to get things right. easy to use, practical note-taking.

Ad Removal Buggy
Pretty good update but found that the in app purchase to remove ads didn't work until I did a restore of purchases.
