Great jazz streaming
I enjoy streaming from the jazz channel. Reliable and easy to open.
No live feed?
I used the earlier iteration of this app to listen to the Morning Edition and 1A programs. It was a nuisance, because of spontaneous interruptions and glitches in the continuity, but it was better than nothing, which apparently what this current app offers.
CPR Review
Not as easy to use as the prior.
Wish this app was better
This app is really disorganized and not user friendly. The live steam prompts you to a donate page that doesn’t take you back to the main home screen. I hope WVXU will update this to be more user friendly.
Stops a Lot
I love WVXU. I love the NPR programming. I listen to the “live” broadcast on this app, but it puts itself on pause a lot. I have to constantly get my phone out of my pocket and press play on the app. It happens so much it sometimes makes me just want to turn it off. I deleted and reloading the app but it still does it.
Great for on the go
Works great for me across multiple devices. Zero issues. Simple and easy to use. Great way to “stay connected”
News feed repeats
For a couple of months the WVXU feed repeats sentence after sentence over and over in a loop?
‘GUC
WGUC was the first public broadcast/classical station I listened to. I have been listening to WGUC often on since then, that would be the late 1960s or early 70s. I now live in Florida and the app gives me access to great programs such as Sunday Morning Baroque, which has been one of my favorite programs for decades. The app is not difficult to use although I must admit I don’t use it enough to have had any issues. It reconnects me to the city. I grew up in with music that I absolutely love.
Should be better
I listen while I'm out walking. The annoying "thank you for ...." Pops in every time there is a break in the connection. It's better but the connection is so slow to complete even before I leave my home wifi. Very annoying.
Jazz playlist doesn’t work
Jazz playlist is from months ago. Searching the playlist doesn’t work.
Good to keep out out of town
Moves away years ago, but it’s always nice to still be able to listen to WGUC! Keep up the good work!
Practically unusable
Since the NPR app updated, its usability for written news stories has gone way down hill. Based on that, I figured I should finally get around to downloading the more local app, only to find out that it’s even worse. Instead of being a coherent visual, there’s way too many tiny icons whose titles are cut off. To make matters worse, when you like on any story to read it, the text is way too small and lacks any sort of text layout. It’s like reading a website from 1999.
Still lacks a significant feature
I use this app to listen to WGUC, which it’s what I used the previous version for. The one feature I was hoping to see in the new version is an easy way to see what piece is playing at the moment. I have to either scroll through the day’s playlist to get to the current hour or go to the WGUC website, where it’s displayed right on the home page. I’d love to be able to just glance at my phone or my smartwatch and see what’s playing.
Stream skips often
This app should not be available until it can properly perform its most basic function: streaming audio. Every few minutes it jumps a few seconds and less often stops altogether.
Slow load
I use this app often, and in the last month or so, have noticed a long load time from the splash screen. The load time used to be instant from splash screen to app function; now it’s needlessly there for longer than it needs. Have had to abandon way too many times.
Love it!!
Don’t love that Congress defunded our public radio stations, but I do love WGUC and the app!
The App is needlessly burdensome with time of loading and number of clicks
I wrote this review for years ago, and the situation has gotten no better sense. The app continually stops working, must be deleted, must be reloaded. It’s quite frustrating. I also have used the KCRW app and I never have any of these problems with it. It loads quickly. It does not fail and does not cut out. I wish that WVXU Would revamp the app into ways: 1). streamline the app, so that it loads more quickly. There’s so many features in it, that it takes a long time to load. 2). Work on the app so that it does not repeatedly fail, and require deleting and reloading. When you click on the icon, there is needlessly long wait for the app to load. Then when it opens, after you click play, you must quickly move to the opposite side of the screen and click skip so that you don’t have to wait through advertisements. These two negatives are not necessary. For instance the KCRW app loads much more quickly and does not require you to hit skip to avoid being exposed to a series of ads. I fervently hope that the powers that be a WVXU will simplify the WVXU app so that it is much more user friendly. Finally, I don’t know if any other app goes south in must be deleted and reloaded answer often as this app. It rarely lasts longer than a month on my phone before I have to it stops functioning, I have to delete and re-load.
Bulls Review
This app is very slow. Most time I use another app.
Love WVXU the app is okay
Sometimes I switch to my California station because this cuts out so often. Other days it’s just fine.
Cincinnati Public Radio app
I use this app to stay up to date while I’m working. It works great.
What happened?
Used to be a solid, useful app but lately just freezes on opening. Haven’t been able to use it for weeks.
Listener
Good most of the time, but had to reload because of cutting out. Great station; okay app.
So, I wasn’t the only one,,
I’d had the same problem with the broadcasting being cut off or too many station announcement popped up way too often to disrupt the broadcasting. I had contacted WVXU tech person to correct this problem. It got better for a while, but the problem did come back. So, now I totally gave up on to listen to NPR through WVXU, but am listening now through NPR web page which is so much better than WVXU’s.
Great app!
I love this app!
Still Hangs
Latest update seemed to be better for not losing connection to live stream, but then back to same problem. Deleted and downloaded again ...no good. Call WITF for their code. Simpler steaming connection and much more robust
Great info. Cuts out
The app has a lot of information and options. Live streaming cuts out frequently
Station is great
But the app is finicky, as others can attest. I also use the KQED and BBC apps, and they stream much more consistently. It seems they use less data somehow? WVXU is one of the best NPR stations in the country, so I WOULD appreciate better tech in the app!
Great app and station
WGUC is my go to station for classical music and arts in Cincinnati. The app allows for easy use while at home, on the go, and while traveling away from Cincinnati. It is a wonderful way to take some of the best things from home with us!
Stream stops again and again
Even on WiFi the stream stops
Love the station but the app is a little slow
I love the station and listen all the time but the app could use some work.
Latest update very buggy
When I stop or pause the stream, then try to turn it back on, it will very often not reconnect.
Great App!
I used to live in Cincinnati and I love the ability to tune in to 90.9 classical from afar. Great app!
WVXU app is terrible!
This app stream constantly cuts out when I’m listening. Sometimes the stream will resume on it’s own or it may not. Sometimes it resumes and loops so it sounds like a broken record. I’ve tried may things from deleting app and reinstalling it, and I’ve contacted WVXU (absolutely NOT helpful). Now, I mostly open a different NPR station app Chicago WBEZ and NEVER have a problem with it. I wish I could stream my local NPR station, especially since I’m a sustaining member.
Like it...so convenient!
I relocated recently, so I follow several different NPR stations. This app is great...very convenient!
Love the new app!
…
The radio stream cuts out.
The radio stream cuts out a lot. Please fix that.
So far so good
I had deleted a previous version of the app because it kept cutting out, and I had gone to just listening through the mobile site. I decided to give the app another chance, and so far it’s working well.
My Sanctuary.
WGUC-Classical music feeds my soul beginning every morning until when it’s time to go to bed. Long live WGUC.
