This is a fantastic app that I use a lot and would recommend to anyone. I wish they would add Slovenian though!!
Tiny type
This new version has much smaller type than before, and it makes it challenging to read. The previous format was much easier. I hope that the app goes back to that format.
Super aber ständige Connection Error
Ich nutze die App viel und gerne, allerdings ist es super nervig, dass ständig connection error besteht, egal wie gut und stabil das Internet ist. Es scheint ein Fehler bei der App zu sein. Ich halte sie up to Date und habe sie bereits deinstalliert und neu installiert. Dennoch passiert es immer wieder, dass ich diese Fehlermeldung erhalte. Ich finde das Layout und die Übersichtlichkeit der Vokabellisten hat ebenfalls Optimierungsbedarf. Leider kann man auch nur British English und kein American English auswählen.

Sichtbarkeit Vokabeln
Einst eine gute App kann man die App jetzt in die Tonne schmeißen. Das pop-up Suchfeld deckt die gesuchten Vokabeln fast vollständig ab. Auf eine Tapete starren gibt mehr Aufschluss. Bitte schnell korrigiereb.

It’s just a superb companion for learning a language, I especially find the translated phrases and colloquialisms helpful. A very small suggestion is that some added verb conjugation information would be useful, but you can get that elsewhere so it’s not a huge issue
Solche Werbung nicht
Ich habe diese App jahrelang genutzt und wäre auch weiterhin von ihrer Funktion überzeugt. Aber pornografische Werbung hat in einer Wörterbuch-App nichts zu suchen.

…translations. there are translations that are commonly only used in Austria than in Germany! One has to know that fact, because if someone wants to translate English into German, he’s / she’s better with a dictionary that truely translates inTo >German<. There’re words or even sentences that are only used in Austria. some are declared by that dictionary, some are not. in Germany we say „rosige Zukunft“ not „rosa Zukunft“ for example - most germans would grin if somebody would talk like that….unfortunately it’s not the only thing to be mentioned. maybe in the depths of Bavaria, 5km to Austria you may hear some of those sentences/ words, but not usually in the rest of Germany. Für Deutsche ist positiv zu vermerken dass überhaupt Redewendungen/ Sprichwörter aus dem Englischen übersetzt werden. Allerdings tun das auch andere dictionarys ohne drollige o.auch vulgäre österreichische Vokabeln die als Deutsch bezeichnet werden. Bei Hörbüchern und Filmen ist das ganz spannend. Zumindest die meisten, obwohl ich bei den deutschen Übersetzungen echt des Öfteren den Kopf schütteln und lächeln oder mich ärgern muss. Leider gibts auch keine Reaktion auf Wörter die man korrekterweise moniert, man möge sie bitte als ausschließlich österreichisch deklarieren. Meinen ausländischen Bekannten empfehle ich dieses Dic. nicht. ps.: zu einer Rezension die ich gelesen habe: der „deutsche Gruss“ ist kein „Hitlergruss“, es mag sein, dass Geschichte wichtig ist, in einem Wörterbuch sollte ein Deutscher Gruss m.E. nicht als o.g. deklariert werden. Wenn dann gehört auch in englischer/ jew. fremder Sprache ein Vermerk dazu, dass solcher ausschließlich im dritten Reich verwendet oder als solcher bezeichnet wurde und heute Verboten ist.(was so im Dicc nicht verzeichnet wird und irreführend interpretiert werden könnte.) „Meinungsfreiheit“ und „Intergrität (das Fremdwort für das Popo in Hose haben)“ meine persönlichen lieblings Vokabeln…. 80% der Nutzer würden Intolerables (für das Werbung gemacht würde)/ intolerablen background in Apps, auf/ in Marktplätzen, where ever.. akzeptieren weil die Nutzung schlicht gratis, billig oder einfach (schnell) verfügbar ist, so ist das nämlich. …. Hier wird ja aber in einer Rezension darauf verwiesen, dass Google anscheinend irgendwie von selbst autark entsprechende ungewollte Werbung generieren würde …. ne ganz bekannte deutsche Band hat angeblich ner ganz bekannten deutschen Partei (btw.) untersagt ihre Musik für ihre Zwecke zu nutzen…. >integer<

App stürzt häufig ab
Ich bin grundsätzlich sehr zufrieden mit der App, aber zuletzt stürzt sie leider super häufig ab. Häufig passiert das, wenn ich etwas suche und ein Element aus der Ergebnisliste „zu schnell“ auswähle. Dann passiert nichts mehr und bei einem Neustart der App dauert es deutlich länger, bis die App bereit ist. Wenn ich zwischen Suchen und Auswahl ein paar Sekunden warte, passiert das nicht/deutlich seltener. Ist aber sehr lästig, besonders wenn man schnell etwas sucht. Hat vermutlich mit dem Laden der Wörterdatenbank zu tun. Ansonsten top App 👍
Older version was better
The newer version on my ipad doesn’t give the declension of verbs. The feature is entirely missing. I loved the other version!
Classic
I have been using dict.cc for years. Huge database of words and offline mode is great when traveling. This app would be better though if you could save words to a list to review later.

Eigentlich zufrieden. Nur unerträglich finde ich den Eintrag unter „Gruß“. Da taucht 2x der Hitlergruß als „Deutscher Gruß“ auf. Das gehört nicht in ein Wörterbuch für den Jetzt-Gebrauch!

This is the best German-English app I have found. It is far better than branded apps I have paid for. At the time of this review, the modest $1.99 to remove ads was money well spent.

Überflutung von adds
Ok also ich benutze diese App schon seit Jahren und habe davor die Seite benutzt bevor es Smartphones gab und es war IMMER der beste Übersetzer. Seit neustem aber wird einem das Ergebnis schwer gemacht und es ist echt mühsam keinen add anzuklicken. Im Leben nie habe ich eine App gesehen die so krass mit adds vollgestopft ist wie diese und das über Nacht! WIESO!?! Was für eine Schande.
What happened?
This app (the advanced one w/ a fee) WAS fantastic, but now it simply is a blank white screen when I click on the app. I tried updates etc. too. I had a couple years of saved expressions and words that I often review. What happened here? I found that others are having the same experience.
Best app for German
I swore by this app as an expat living in Germany, and then they broke my heart and stopped updating the app and it didn’t work for awhile. I had to use google translate, which is garbage and is terrible at guessing context while translating words rather than sentences. I am so happy to see that this app is up and running again. I’m in Switzerland using it as I write this!
Wrong translation.
Man könnte lachen, wenn es nicht so traurig wäre. If we didn't laugh, we would cry / weep. I just paid for this 10 minutes ago. I'm not a German speaker but i can tell this is wrong. I wonder how many others are wrong..
This app...
This app has made my life so much easier, with the little indicators of the uses of a word it’s much harder to accidentally say something you didn’t mean to. Additionally it’s very fast and I love that it’s offline. I just wish the Vocab was more organized and that there was a widget so I could look up a word with my phone locked.
War mal gut
Früher war die App ein Must-Have. Heute gibts andere, die mehr bieten. Leider hat sich der Entwickler für ein Abomodell für die Premiumfeatures entschieden. Das ist für mich ein Dealbreaker.

So, great interface, but how about the actual definitions?
After trying to search 15 somewhat common German words for my German 1 class, which is BASIC German, only 4 of the words were even on the app. Horrible dictionary app.
Immensely Helpful
I think that the bilingual dictionary is underrated. It is much more useful, in my opinion, to be able to find more information on a single word than to translate complete sentences with errors (e.g. Google Translate). I also appreciate being able to download the dictionaries for use outside of areas with cell coverage. Although some of the dictionaries are not as large as I'd like, some are very comprehensive. Overall, this is a good app and I use it daily in my German studies, and I used it very often while in Spanish speaking countries.

Verbindungsfehler im Überfluss
Die Verbindung könne oft nicht hergestellt werden, was komisch ist, weil ich sonst nie Verbindungsprobleme habe. Nur mit dieser App. Manchmal lädt alles sogar und dann werde ich plötzlich wegen eines Fehlers wieder nach dem Hauptbildschirm zurückgewiesen. Das ergibt aber keinen Sinn weil alles schon geladen ist. Passiert etwa 7 mal nacheinander bis es wieder funktioniert. Ist nicht so schlimm aber echt nervig und geschieht seit einem Jahr. Ich frag mich ob der Bug je beseitigt werden wird.
reliable and useful
For years, I have used the app regularly. It has always functioned properly. The dictionary is exhaustive. Offline availability is a valuable feature. This app has proven to be completely dependable.
Crappy implementation
Downloads of language packs keep crashing. Have to start from zero again, just to see them crashing again. Have not been able to download a single language pack so far.
Great App!! One big flaw though.
I absolutely love the app, and it has helped me so much in my quest to learn the German language. The only flaw that I see in the app is that when you try and save entires to your vocabulary list, there isn't any separation between verbs, nouns, adverbs, adjectives, and etc. I wish that there were a way to incorporate it in to make different specialized lists based on what kind of word it is. Thanks for taking the time to read.
Not Functioning
It has happened multiple times that application stopped working and need to uninstall. Seeking a solution for the same.
A problem with the latest update
After the update, the app stopped autocompleting. You have to type the whole word and press search.

Disappointed after update
I agree with willi. After the update nothing is like it was before. Poor vocabulary, download doesnt work either and irritating ads. Absolut downgrade and no improvements. Have to look for another app now for the time being :(.

Great breadth, but needs some tweaks
Great breadth of vocab (I use for German-English)! However, the app is always playing audio whenever I switch between apps. Also, it would be great to have the ability to save words to a favourites list, as it would be beneficial for vocab building.
