Great app
Looking for something different to cook this is a good app to look at.
Poor App Integration Design Choice
Registers as a background receiver, so the recipes are imported silently and stored before you see anything. They are then hard to find when you go to the app. ReciMe has a much better design.
Works great, but…
Lots of diverse recipes. Can save good categories. I’ve added a few recipes myself. I won’t use recipes with external links. The ads get in the way of instructions
App is buggy of late
I’m a paying customer and the app is unacceptable at present. My folders don’t stay sorted. Sometimes they are alphabetized, sometimes not. Even back and forth. Totally random. I cannot always edit my recipes. When adding a new recipe in the app—your own, or from outside Big Oven—it kicks you to the website within the app. Trying to use the web-based tool from within the app involves pinching, zooming, difficulties highlighting text… As the app is essential on mobile—and as it’s a far weaker experience than the desktop version—I can no longer positively rate Big Oven.
Paid for pro - still ads!
Paid for pro to remove the many annoying ads that take up most of the phone screen and hide the recipe, but it did not and I still have ads with no change. Not worth paying from pro.
Can’t live without it.
When you need make dinner, it so easy to go this app for inspiration!

None of the recipes that I’ve saved/posted are showing up in the app.

I love the many recipe options. The only problem; I can always see the ingredients, but not always the directions.

I’ve used this app paid version for years and it is the first place I look for a recipe. I’ve added my own additional recipes when needed and this keeps all my recipes organized in one place. Thankfully this app makes mealtime manageable!

How can I do away with the ads? They are a big bother
Great when it works, frustrating when it doesn’t
It’s very convenient to have my recipes on my phone. I can prop it up on a charger in the kitchen and the app keeps the display awake so I can read through. However, it is inconvenient to find my recipes (search is clunky and sync is unreliable), changes on the web don’t always get pushed to the mobile app, and when you view a modified version of someone else’s recipe (a feature for pro users) the mobile app will often show a non-clickable link to the original recipe instead of the modified version you’ve saved. Very frustrating when it happens, which is frequently.
My go-to
I’ve been using BigOven for years, it is great to have my cookbook on my phone going everywhere with me. I have saved many favorite recipes and downloaded some as well.
Hard to use
I loaded this app to save recipes I had saved in my email. I couldn’t move them to this app
Super Handy
I’ve found so many great recipes with this app. I must have for the domestic chef!
Tried to cancel and got charged instead.
I’m trying to get away from big oven and thought had cancelled. BUT no one answers the phone so I could not verify the cancellation. So they charged me a pile of money despite my requests to cancel. This is one stupid operation- stay away. They don’t want to hear about your problems with them. $ 24.99 - pay me or I will have the police get involved.
App keeps throwing me out
The app only allows me to take one picture OCR it then shuts down. Very time consuming and annoying

Not Allowing Account Deletion
The app is not allowing me to successfully complete my account deletion. It stays on the loading screen endlessly after I select “Delete Account.” I encourage you to submit a complaint to the Consumer Privacy Protection Bureau, as I did, if you’re also experiencing your “right to deletion” being impeded.

Used to be great…not anymore
I have used this app for years but now I can not even find preparation instructions. Every time I click on them I get hijacked to other sites and absolutely can not get to the instructions. I tried just printing it but that too brings up nothing but ads. I’m done. It’s more trouble than it’s worth now. Everything you touch sets off a barrage of ads.

This app was a big waste of time. Was not very intuitive to figure out how to use, many in-app links didn’t work. The most useful feature is the recipe scan and I have to pay per scanned recipe? No thanks.

Don’t try to type your own recipes on the app
I’ve tried three different times to type a recipe into the app. Each time the pop-up ads threw off my typing, and deleted what I had worked on. Headed for a computer…
Great app but a few annoyances
It’s very well done and the integration with the grocery list is excellent. The issues I have are: All of your personal recipes should be on the device in offline mode so you can do shopping lists without cellular data It’s annoying to have to go out of the app for instructions on recipes found on other websites but I understand why they do it It should consolidate groceries (i.e. if you have 1 red pepper each for three recipes it will put 1 red pepper down three times on the grocery list. It should at least also group them together. 50 recipes for the free edition isn’t quite enough. I’d be willing to put up with ads to or a small onetime app fee get a few more but the monthly charge is far too much for the casual husband who uses it once or twice a week.

Don't subscribe to Pro; features are worthless
Downgraded my subscription today. The recipe scan feature is worthless. Incorrect transcriptions 20 times, asking to resubmit. Just use a scanning app on your phone.

iPad My recipes still crashing
This app is great but the last update did not fix the iPad crashing bug. It still exists after re-installing the app. iOS 13.7, iPad Air 2.
Still needs fixes
I've had this app for over two years. I finally subscribed to the Pro version and, after some tweaking and experimentation, took my mother's 40+ yr old pot roast recipe with sour cream sauce, which I adapted for my new Instant Pot, public. However, I'm still frustrated with the iOS app. My edits never show up in the app's version of the recipe...it never changes from what I first typed in. For some reason, the app version failed to include the last two ingredients (I had to add them in a note), a time change I made to the web site version, and minor grammatical changes made to the instructions. The only way to change it in the app is to delete it and start over and I don't want to do that again. The changes only appear in the web site version, but I want them to work for people who see the recipe in the app as well. I even wrote to support about this issue weeks ago, before the holidays, and they haven't fixed this problem yet. This is so frustrating! What's the point of having a function to edit your recipe in the app if it doesn't work in the app?

Out of everything that’s out there, this app is my “go to”! Get it and you will know why.
Useless on my phone
I used to use this app a lot. It was pretty straightforward. I would find a recipe that looked good, look through it, and do this for several recipes to find the best one. Now, when I try to find a recipe, I click on the picture and it brings up so many ads I can’t see anything on my phone screen. When I try to click next, it just sends me to someone’s website, and it’s almost impossible to find the cooking instructions. I gave up and will search for a better app.

Sounds great, but falls short.
App was recommended. I downloaded with delight. Could not log in, make an account. Quite frustrated however, the customer support was EXCELLENT and I had an account made in minutes with their help. I started using the app and scanned a recipe that was subsequently typed up. I got a few free before a 59 cent charge would apply. This happened super quick. Then I took a photo to upload to the recipe but it didn't load. I had saved it in a private list of my own recipe and I could not load a photo. Massively unhappy. Found out later, through an email telling me my photo was approved, that that is the process. It is my own recipe in my own private recipe section, surely I could have put a photo of a poo if I wanted without it having to be approved. Sharing it to a public forum, I can understand the need to approve photos, but I had not done this. I then typed in an easy quick recipe. It didn't save. I didn't want to use one of my 'free' uploads on a recipe that takes 2 minutes to type in. Disappointed yet again. All in all, the website is great, the customer service is excellent, however, I don't have the time to muck around with a website and this is what has turned me off paying for this site. Had it been free altogether I would have perservered. Hope this review helps you make a decision. it is not intended to be negative or positive.

Easy to search and lots of recipe options I use this site all the time for ideas even on the things I regularly cook!
Scanning recipe
I had a recipe that is short and took one picture to add it and the app did not register it, so I could add it(submit it)
Very good but could be better
This app is very good but there is still plenty of room for improvement eg having it work as well on iPad as it does on iPhone, enabling you to set Department for grocery list for items and not have to repeat amend every time you do a new list. Having said that I feel that it is still the best app for having all your recipes in one place and using that library to populate menu planner and grocery list.
Pretty useless
Difficult to find anything, gives you 5-6 recipes and a couple of collections on the homepage but that's about it. Most of the worthwhile stuff is behind a monthly paywall.

Really useful for the first year. Then I can't buy anymore recipe scans without paying a yearly subscription. I'm happy to pay for more recipescans but I can't. Bigoven is missing a trick for sure,
Useful, stable, great UI
I use BigOven for my entire recipe library. It is an excellent app. The only improvement I can think of would be if my recipe library was available offline.
Scan feature does not work
I get this app mainly for the bragged about scan feature. It won’t even open up the camera to take the picture. Does not work.

Quite convenient and easy to use.
Poor search
This is a great app if you want to cook miscellaneous stuff but I wanted a specific recipe but couldn't find it. There is no search, the search icon is there but when selected just brings up a category picture show, my recipe fitted into four of the categories I selected one pot meals thinking I could type in a recipe name and it would show any with that name but no I had to scroll through all the recipes looking for what I wanted, it wasn't there so I tried another category it wasn't there. Chicken chasseur, a common enough dish, but I think reading the previous comments about the American recipes it probably isn't there and even if it was I never found it. So two stars only, I will delete big oven and look for another better U.K. style app. Just so glad it was free
Good recipes but could be better
Good selection of recipes but no ability to search and sort results (i.e. By rating or number of likes for instance). This is something that rival apps can do easily. Then there's the adverts - horrible, obtrusive flash-like carbuncles sitting at the bottom of the screen blinking and flashing at you. I don't mind static ads, but ones that look like poor gif ads from the 90's need to go - again, many alternative apps like epicurious do NOT do this so its a serious failing with this app imho.
