User friendly
Excellent, easy to use
What a mess
This has been the most stressful experience filing tax in my life. Downloaded this app thinking it would help me. Allowed them access my bank details, it didn’t manage to calculate anything so the number were zero for everything. Pressed to file the assessment thinking it would give me the opportunity to amend all this mess by hand. Allowed access to my HMRC account. And as soon as it was done the app has sent that self assessment with all zeros to the HMRC thank you very much. Customer support does nothing - there is no phone just robot support via texts. I was planning to handle it before the end of the month now it’s overdue. Absolute rubbish
Great for single people
Terrible for couple who own a BTL jointly as no way to split downloaded transactions rendering app more of a toy. Shame as app is good and could be great. Bizarrely you are able to split your employed income just not property!!
App crashing
Anyone else experiencing the app crashing lately? It was perfect!

Really bad
I worked with Richard for a self assessment HMRC tax return and he submitted inaccurate figures compared to the figures that I gave him. Terrible!
Buggy
Really like the ability to enter transactions as the year progresses and get a view on my tax position. This is especially useful for making decisions to minimise tax liability. But it doesn’t support old HMRC logins and CGT entries seem to cause a major error in the tax calculation. If you don’t need to use these 2 features then it’s great. But could be other bugs I’ve not encountered.
Self employed tax
This app is really easy and quick to use, I am more than happy with this way of doing tax
Tax support is not worth it
Never buy tax support in £89 they are not worth it
No bulk upload of receipts
Looks like it has potential - but all receipts have to be manually entered with no bulk upload AI scanning option.
Great app for everyone
Must say, this was straight forward and I think this is a hidden treasure! Thank you (ps, I am a real person no spam)
Absolutely rubbish
Paid for the top service where I was assured my tax return would be ready and submitted for the 6 th not only was it not ready until the 10th they also massively under cut my return so I decided to go to an accountant and got my return doubled and paid I would not ever trust this app with your money under any circumstances
No pensions income type yet
Looks good but was linked to this app from a SIPP app yet the Pensions income type has not yet been developed. Seems to be due on a rolling ‘next month’ deadline?
Excellent app
Excellent app and service. It genuinely simplifies day-to-day tasks and makes the financial year-end far less stressful. Highly recommended.
Terrible app
Smart feature doesn’t work properly then will add loads of random stuff messing up your tax return. You will then be asked to pay money in order to fix it.
Add Chase Bank please
Great app design and really intuitive. Unfortunately have to leave it for competitor as they do not have Chase Bank and therefore it renders this up useless for me. 🥲
Self assessment made easy
Just wish I’d had this years ago.
Poor and unresponsive
Tried using it with no luck! Added my income and tax amount with photo of P45 tried to move on and the app is totally unresponsive with no option to add a second employment for the tax year to progress. Waste of time!
Brilliant
Genuinely I had quick books first and it was so complicated so I saw pie tax was free and genuinely the easiest thing to use for CIS workers I have no complaints at all. And I just submitted my tax return and I didn’t even use the one that costs and all I had to do was email and password and it submitted it all for me instantly. It’s gone from days to do my tax return to literally 2 minutes and for free.
DOESNT ALLOW CAPITAL ALLOWANCE ON APP
I’ve submitted my return thinking I can add on capital allowance however that’s a paid service within the app to add it, I’ve tried amending on hmrc website however it doesn’t allow you as it’s been submitted through PieTax. I’ve used the chat service and they are telling me to use the paid service for them to amend it, now I’ll be contacting hmrc to have my return removed from this company.
First year using pie
Hello this is my first year using the pie app I found this easy to use and I’m not very tech savvy. So if you are worried about using MTD apps this is good free app it’s a big yes from me people 👍
Waste of time
Can’t even enter a basic state pension manually. It keeps directing you to call support. Looks like app is not ready and it needs to be as it is time to do last FY return. Monumental waste of my time.
Brilliant
First time doing self-assessment and I was very worried about it. I connected PIE to my account and reconciled everything in roughly 15 minutes. Really brilliant, I wish I had known about this months ago.
Not fit for purpose
The app is extremely buggy: you go to add a source of income and this doesn’t show up, only to later show up but as a ghost income which can’t be edited anymore. There’s no way to indicate the tax code, so all calculations are wrong unless you have the standard personal allowance.
Pie Tax - last minute self assessment!
An absolute lifesaver for YE self‑assessment. I had everything filed within minutes of uploading my info, with less than two hours to the HMRC deadline – zero drama, zero spreadsheets. If you’re solo-running your finances as a freelancer, consultant, or small business owner, the Pie app turns a usually painful tax scramble into a quick, guided sprint. Strongly recommend @Pie Tax to anyone who wants to ditch last‑minute panic and submit directly to HMRC from their phone.
Can’t even get on the app
Impossible setting up a login… doesn’t send security code to device or email. Says attempt failure. Then too many attempts means they block access for 10 minutes. Deleted and re-downloaded the app. Still not working. Tried this twice and gave up.
