Finally updated! Bugs fixed
Update on update on update: The devs finally fixed the daily prize money function. No additional cities, but I’m glad you finally brought back daily goals. Back to 5 stars. Update: it took months and I unsubscribed to Netflix. They finally updated for iOS 18 and it works. Update: It no longer works at all. I updated to iOS 18.5, and all it does is crash immediately! Please fix! I’ve been playing for over a year now, and at first I was having fun and liked improving as I meandered through the “journey.” A couple months ago, the game stopped offering new weekly badges, and there’s a warning that pops up every time I sign in. Something about not being connected to the internet (except I am). I complained over the phone & a few days later it seemed almost fixed. I was again getting daily goals, though still no new badges. Now it’s back to saying I’m not online, and I can only get new goals if I connect. I’m running 18.3.2 on an iPad, so I’m current. Fix the app, please!
Does not work
This app does not work on my iPhone 14. EVERY app works except this one. I’ve tried so many things to get it to work but it won’t.
Unnecessary
I think the game is great overall, but many of the teaching methods require one to do something in a certain amount of moves, like the mate in 2...but if one can mate in 1...why make it seem as if that way is incorrect, instead of showing there's more than one way to do something. I have photos of the specific ones demonstrating what I mean, but other than that, I enjoy the game for the most part thus far.

I am really enjoying this game and think it is teaching me how to play chess. However the game randomly crashing is making it a less pleasurable experience. Please developers come up with a fix as the game has great potential!

Need one thing
It’s great for those who are beginners and wanted to learn chess because of the show, could you add the fps options like 60fps or above if can.
Nice graphics, initially useful, but online play doesn’t work, and too many bugs…
Update 2: I initially loved this app, but a couple months ago I deleted it because I had completed all the exercises and then kept getting server errors and couldn’t get the ELO/online game play feature to work on my iPhone 16. Today, I reinstalled it, and I still get the same server error preventing online play. On top of that, despite the app recognizing my phone and user ID immediately such that I didn’t even need to re-log in, the account didn’t store any game information, so I was unable to restore my prior accomplishments/purchases and was unable to opt out of the app intro. I’m now going to delete it again, because without the online play feature I don’t currently have a use for it. Update 1: The graphics are beautiful and I’ve learned a lot. That said, there is room for improvement, and I am reducing my rating from 4 to 3 after completing all the puzzles, for the following reasons: First, one can get stuck in a puzzle indefinitely if they don’t figure it out. Additionally, practice games let you reverse and try different moves only up until you lose, but then the game ends so quickly one doesn’t have time to see/understand why they lost if it wasn’t obvious. Character comment bubbles appear too frequently, often lingering and obstructing one’s view of the board and slowing down play (turning off emotes in settings it doesn’t appear to do anything, at least not on my iPhone 16). Most bothersome is that sometimes, esp. when playing Mr. Shaibel, I will be one move from what appears an inevitable win, but the game suddenly ends and says “you lost” with no explanation. In these instances, I have not timed out and typically the opposing AI only has their king left or at least very few pieces, so it isn’t that they snuck up on my king or something. My thinking is that these might be accidental draws, e.g. I placed a piece wrong when going for check mate, but the game response is “you lost” instead of “draw”. Lastly, very recently, when I log into the app, as well as every time I try to play someone online, I get an error message saying that something went wrong and to check my internet connection when my internet connection is fine, or, that there was a problem connecting to the server. Because of this, I have been unable to try the “play online” feature, which is disappointing, since I have completed all the puzzles. This leaves playing with the AIs as my only option. The AI games are still fun, but right now, none of them are a great match for my current skill level, being either too difficult or too easy, depending on the character and skill setting.
Mostly great, but some very bad flaws
I really enjoy playing this game, but there are some flaws that seriously bug me. First of all, there is some sort of app glitch where if you come back the next day, you will be negative a few thousand coins for no reason whatsoever. Second, they don't provide enough information about why you can or cannot make a certain move. I saw that other people had mentioned this as well. Third, some of the games will require you to make moves exactly the same way that the computer is thinking, even if it has the same end result. It's very frustrating to be able to do a better job such as a mate in one rather than two. We have to go through every single scenario to do it exactly the way of computer wants you to, rather than allowing some flexibility for the end result.

After I select my user profile the screen goes black and it won’t let me play… I’ve tried restarting my phone and redownloading the app, nothing works

The app consistently has trouble connecting to the server, and there is zero support from the developer. I really like the game, but not being able to use the online features is very frustrating.
Eigentlich gut, aber…
Seit der App-Aktualisierung ist zuerst mein Spielstand weg. D.h. ich müsste wieder von ganz am Anfang an spielen. Und nachdem ich die App geschlossen, sowie auch gelöscht und neu installiert hatte und wieder öffnen wollte, geht nichts mehr bzw. nur ein schwarzes Bild und es öffnet sich nichts. Schade, bin enttäuscht.

The tutorial auto advances which is infuriating when you are trying to read. I dont think it lets you pick 2d boards and some are difficult to process.

Learning chess again, couldn’t get into it as a kid, lacked focus and patience…and my kid sister used to beat me easily!! But loving this…at 59.
Error Message after 3 months of play.
Playing on iPhone 12 Mini - This game was great, very educational and quite enjoyable to relive through Beth’s journey. Unfortunately after 3 months it stopped connecting to server. No badges or weekly rewards are updated anymore. The storyline is still functioning, and game play versus Ai still enjoyable, but shame I can’t play with anyone online to raise my Elo. I know this series has ended and funding and focus has shifted to the next Netflix games. I think this game still deserves some love. Anyways, 1 star till they fix it. But overall review 3.5 out of 5 for gameplay.

It’s absolutely amazing
As someone who has a good understanding of chess and what to do, this app has helped a lot, I play 10 chess games a day tracking my win percentage and I’ve increased my personal score to 80% win and 20% losses. This changed when i started using this app, it has amazing results and helps me a lot. It’s beginner friendly to people who don’t know anything about chess as well. And even if you advanced it has things for you to give a shot and so much else to offer.

Was finally working…. And then
After months of crashing on start up the game finally started working! Truthfully it’s a great game. The music is nice. I find it difficult to see the pieces sometimes. And really wish in the challenges you could go back and correct your mistake without having to restart the challenge. This was actually the reason my kids won’t play it. It’s so time consuming restarting the challenge as opposed to just going back one move. They literally said “eff this” and put the game down. Shame. I’ve completed all the challenges and yet the airport won’t open up. 3 stars in all. All levels. So that’s too bad. But now…. The server won’t connect! For a week now the server won’t connect. So no daily challenges. Can’t play others. Wish the game wasn’t as buggy. With fixing that and a few minor improvements it would be a 5 star game.

I am really enjoying this app so far but the instructional text bubbles cover the board. There’s no reason for these bubbles to cover your pieces. Very frustrating.
