What people like
- Great for motivating people to walk more daily.
- Fun way to enjoy fantasy books while moving.
- Beautiful art and nice user interface design.
What they complain about
- Free version limits daily distance to one mile.
- Step tracking is often inaccurate or misses data.
- You must pay to see friends' progress.
Enjoyed the app
Such a fun act, I am a little concerned that it double counts my mileage because of my garmin but still fun.
Innaccurate and burdensome
Its an amazing app and would be alot of fun if it were accurate but im getting sick of walking 14,000 steps and it telling me i walked 2 miles because the only app that it pulls data from is apple health which is complete garbage and for some reason doesnt track distance correctly. This defeats the whole purpose of the app. Wish they would allow you to tether zepp app or fitbit app
Fun
A fun way to get out and walk,
Pay to Play
Your progress is capped at 1500 metres/day unless you subscribe to the premium version. Great in concept, but you can’t compare your progress with friends without paying either.
Stopped tracking distance
This seemed like a really cute app that would’ve made my walks more exciting, if it didn’t stop randomly tracking the distance. I had to restart my journey a few times for it to start tracking again. Walked about 2 miles and it said I only had walked 1. Not sure if it’s a user issue or an app issue, but I couldn’t keep using it.
This will motivate you
I never do app reviews and I’ve struggled a long time in losing weight. Doing this with friends has been so much fun and has made be a walker.
Limited to 1 mile per day
You have to pay to track more than a mile per day, making it practically useless if you want a free app
Enjoying the journey
Love being able to track the journey with friends/family. I wish the replay function had a speed option.
Paywall
Kinda sucks how you can only walk one mile a day this app has my completion date for 2036 thats 10 years from now
Could be better
Good concept and understand the need to pay but could be better if the map was interactive and able to see progress more clearly. See what’s coming up, distances to next stop, etc so that you can set personal goals or push a little harder
Very motivating for Lord of the Rings lovers!
Loved checking my progress every day, but really wish once you end the quest there was an option to reset to the beginning
You have to pay to walk more than a mile a day
Why
Motivating
It’s fun! I bought the unlimited distance pack and recommended it to two friends who joined and did the same! I wish you would be able to see at least the total distance of your friends when you buy the unlimited distance pack. I get it’s not the sub so you don’t see all the stats, but just the total distance would make it so much easier to celebrate big milestones with each other and egg each other one. Which is why it’s four instead of a full five stars. Still beautiful art and nice user interface.
Disappointed but not too surprised
Used to be a fun way to keep track of miles. I got it for the first time a couple years back, and I enjoyed it and it motivated me to walk a bit more. I never had to pay for anything and it tracked however much miles I had walked that day. It took me a long time, but I reached the end and forgot about it. I decided to get it again this year, cause I thought why not, just to find that theres a 1 mile limit, and you have to pay to track more than I mile. Doesn’t seem to be any new content either to warrant the need to charge for money. Disappointed but not surprised. Greed is getting to everyone these days I guess.
Pretty good
It’s really cool to see how far you’ve gone, but i wish you didn’t have to pay
Favorite walking app
Love this app, huge lotr fan and it motivates me to walk more and more each day. I should reach mount “fire” in about 10 months!!
Restore needed
I constantly have to restore the purchase and when I reached out to their customer service about it they just ignored me.
Tons of fun!!
As a huge lotr fan, I had so much fun with this app! It’s a shame that you have to pay to keep track of your friends’ progress, but other than that I thought it was a great design and really enjoyable to follow along with the adventure and see all the references. 🧝♀️
Mileage tracker is way off actually.
Love the idea but with my iPhone the actual miles I walk and the app records are highly inaccurate. Had to laugh 5 of us all did the same walk and the variance was 3/4 of a mile between the 5 of us from highest to lowest. I have notice I walk between 13.5-14 miles to get around 10 registered on the App. Oh well just keep walking .
Bit Cheeky
The free version only lets you record 1.5km per day. I downloaded this almost exactly two years ago (13th February 2023), and have only been able to record 940km in that time. I'm not expected to reach the goal until 11th August 2027, and if I want to be able to record my actual walking distances each day, I have to pay £5.99. Still gonna keep using the trial version because I'm stubborn, but it does feel a bit cheeky to advertise this as a free walking-recording app when you can only actually record a very small distance each day unless you open your wallet.
Fun and motivational!
I really enjoy fantasy books like lord of the rings, so this app was a nice way to bring me closer to the books and also motivate me to walk more
1 Mile Limit
It seems the free version is limited to tracking 1 mile per day. Be aware!
Very good Lord of the Rings based app
I loved it, but if you don’t get a premium membership you can only go 1 mile a day.
Not accurate
Doesn’t accurately count my distance. Tried all troubleshooting options and confirmed all settings were correct to track, but misses more than half my distance.
Give me more!
This was the best experience! I loved using this app and I dreaded finishing my quest. I wish there was an option to extend it to go “there and back again” so I could keep going and return to the shire!!!
A subscription service 😂
Think this will be fun… download then realize it’s another extortionate needless subscription. Stop using these and they’ll eventually go away.
Wish to see friends journey
I love this app so far! My friends, family, and coworkers have now joined! The only thing I wish is that I could still see my friends even if they are ahead of me, so I can see just how far they have gone. Or be able to zoom in on the big map to see them.
You have to pay
You have to pay for it to log more than 1.5km. It will take me four years to complete the walk. That doesn’t seem right.
Fun App
Overall happy with the app. Disappointed that it’s not compatible with Fitbit
Best App Ever
This turns walking, running, or just step counting into an adventure. The attention to detail is wonderful.
Meh
You apparently, at some point, reach a “step limit” and you cannot progress further unless you purchase the app. Was a fun premise up until that point.
Too pricy for what it offers
App works great, I’m really enjoying playing with it along with my friends (we all got it together), but I do think it merits 4 stars given how pricy it is. If it was a one time purchase, I’d rate it 5 stars, but given that it operates as a SaaS app, I think it’s a bit costly,
Payment
This app is cute and I like the idea of it, I was a bit bummed to find it would only do 1.5kms a day so i tried to buy the unlimited distance but every time I try and to buy it always says there is an error with PayPal and to try again later. I’ve tried for a week or two maybe more but it still won’t let me buy it because of the issue it the verification process. Please fix this buy because I would love to get unlimited distance.
Great idea but the app doesn’t work!
I’ve used this app for over a year and always loved it but recently the app has stopped working. I can’t click to see the map, achievements or settings, nor can I scroll up/down. Such a shame as up until that point I was loving the app :(
Fun!
This has made exercise so fun!!!
Does not track properly
I walk around 10,000 steps per day but normally not with my phone. It tracks on my Fitbit and I update apple health. The app is supposed to pull from apple health but it doesn’t. 10,000 steps is around 8km but most days it puts me walking only 3.5km. I know it’s just for fun but I’m super competitive and I want to win. Or at least lose because I ACTUALLY lost.
Non-linear progress
It is quite a good app but frustrating that sometimes you progress quite quickly and other times it takes days to move more than a cm along the app
Limited
Can only walk 1.5km in free version…
Initially good
Initially good but only hit two achievements on the app and that was right at the start I haven’t had an achievement since
Enjoy the travelogue
Nice for motivating one to keep up there steps on a daily basis
Not stable enough
Despite following all instructions for setting up, giving access to health settings etc. recording of distance is a matter of luck. Some days it records nothing. My estimated journey completion time has come and gone and is now estimated to be completed in a year.
Fun
Nice little app , I wish the free distance was a tad more like a daily target of 3 miles . I did something similar recently and help raise £4300 I did all the distances and milestones myself this would’ve been very handy and worth the £5.99
Works only sometimes
The app is fun but it only works sometimes, doesn’t sync all steps and only works occasionally now. I’d wait till they upgrade or update their system.
Good until it logs you out and won’t send a reset email
Hopefully someone gets back to me to sort this cos otherwise I just wasted that unlimited steps payment
Pretty fun.
I had a lot of fun doing this as LOTR fan.
Nasty Tricksy Hobbitses
Before downloading, be aware that the free version only lets you move 1.5km/day. If you want to use the app properly it costs £5.99.
Almost perfect but does need tweaking
It’s so close to being great but the characters need to be tweaked. Mr Underhill is perfect, the challenge to keep up with him is great. Currently 194km behind him on my third attempt to try match up to him. But the others are underwhelming, Jon Snowflake is 1200km behind and I never feel like he’s even close to being on my heels. Also the option to buy characters would be good as I very much want to be a dwarf but I don’t want to subscribe either. I’ve bought unlimited distance as I wanted it and you guys deserve some cash but if you put £2 to buy a character I’d probably buy a new character each time I start a new round of the adventure
Monthly payments :(
Was really enjoying this app I didn’t mind spending $5 one time for unlimited but now with the monthly subscription I won’t be continuing to use it
Changes
Would like for those who already paid for the app to get the sharing subscription automatically as a loyalty subscriber. When I got this app I was hoping you could share with family and friends but you couldn’t. But I still paid for it because it was a cool concept. Hoping you upgrade already paid subscribers for free.
