⭐️ 1 star. Very frustrating experience with Nala. Every time I try to send money to my family in Africa, my account gets temporarily closed or the transfer is blocked. Sometimes they even say they don’t have the recipient’s bank information. This keeps happening and makes sending money unnecessarily stressful and inconvenient. Nala seriously needs to fix this.
Complex Verification Process, Eventually Fixed
Edit: Company finally verified my account. Still I wish it didn’t have to take this long. Good exchange rates though. If I could give 0 stars I would. By far the worst financial services app I have ever used. I waited close to a month for them to verify me so I could start sending money. It ended up being a long back and forth with constantly changing requirements. Customer service was absolutely awful. Each person said something different each time. Finally gave up after I realized they had no intent to help me.
Be careful with these people
Here I what they said after trying to send 2$ using Apple Pay to Kenya. They also said that they would delete the account and after 96 weeks, my account is still with them😭😭 Here is their message Following a routine review NALA has made the decision to close your account. Our rights to terminate your account are set out in section (11.2 for UK) of NALA's terms of service. We will return any funds held in your wallet unless prohibited by NALA's terms of service or applicable law. This decision is final, and we are not able to provide further details at this time. I sent regretfully sent my stubs and they asked me for my investment portfolios. They wanted me to prove I’m not a fraudster instead of them proving I’m a fraudster. Run for the hills! Go pay the $2 at tap tap. Nothing is free

I have been using NALA more consistently in the past months compared to other apps.Higher rates,transparent and money is received almost immediately,I highly recommend this app.
Often glitched
The app itself is simple to use and practical. However when I needed it the most in December it would lag, glitch, or freeze and transfers wouldn’t work sometimes for days in a row. Now, my second grievance concerns the style of notifications. Beggar culture is already too prevalent in Nigeria, we can’t make it a marketing strategy, so an app reminding me to do weekend for others, or to share « love » during lent and Ramadan to be included in prayers is properly jarring.
Longer Process and higher rate
To send money to my country, I first need to add money to balance, take me to my bank for open banking and verify my card if I choose that. Now when sending again, I have to first change my payment method back to Nala bal - why such longer process? Every other money transfer is two or three taps and money is in. Also, you have the lowest rate in the market. It should be competitive. Apps like Taptap and Pesa always and always give 10# or more above yours. So why such rate? You have to fix those bugs that writes ‘payment needed’ even if you click on send money 10 times, it would be ten payments initiated. I have had better experience.

Terrible at typing to create an account
I downloaded this app because they said it has the best rates but when I tried to create an account, I put my phone number so I can receive the code to register, the code never came to my phone number even after resending the code 15 times. Finally I received notifications for the code like an hour later. But now I can’t put my phone number to register because I did so many attempts. I tried to many ways to register with no success. Well I guess I’ll keep using WR and Remity.

Nala is great… when it works
Nala is great as it has some of the best exchange rates compared to other apps on the market. However it very freely has issues sending to mobile money providers in Cameroon. Often in the moments I need it most it doesn’t seem to work. Also sometimes fund get delayed for hours or even days and I don’t know if it going to go through, which then also means I can’t send the money to the person through other means because I never know for sure weather it will go through (and then I’ll have a duplicate transaction), or it won’t (and I still need to find another way to send the money). Unfortunately because of its issues sending money (in Cameroon for sure), I can’t give it a high rating because I just so frequently am unable to use it these days

Very poor onboarding process
Once you open an acc, you have to upload your documents to verify your identity - which is great. But once you start asking for the additional information, he’ll broke lose. One agent(robot) will join the chat without even reading the previous conversation and just tells you to do something totally different from what the other agent (robot) told you to do. The app ain’t worth the hustle to be honest - try something else.. this ain’t it

Great app (sometimes deceptive rates)
Been using the app for a few weeks its works great but their compare rates feature (liked at first) is very deceptive about other companies rates. They occasionally lower other apps transfer mobile exchange rates in order to make it look like they have the best rate on the market, which is super unethical in my opinion. Either be honest about rates or remove the feature all together

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re using this app to steal identities
I tried signing up for Nala, but for some reason my account couldn’t be verified. That’s fine—I understand that verification issues can happen. What isn’t acceptable is the customer service. After requesting that my account and all of the personal data I submitted be deleted, I’ve only been getting the runaround. It’s been almost a week, and nothing has been resolved. I expected much better support, especially when it comes to handling account and personal data deletion requests.

Please don’t use this App if you’re sending money for emergency!! It is a week now, money is not been delivered but funds have been taken out of customers account! Nala says the transaction cannot be cancelled! Dont you know some of us send money for emergency purposes like hospital and medicine bills , school fees, funerals, plane tickets etc??? What are we supposed to do when money is not delivered on time and funds are already taken out of the account? Then we have to wait for a week!!!! This is very frustrating! If Nala knows there is a problem with Airtel, then they must inform the customers in advance so they won’t use the service or carrier. This is very unacceptable and you will Lose a lot of customers for this!!! Be transparent and refund customers money immediately when you cannot deliver!

I’m really disappointed with this app. It is true talk have great and unbeatable rates but you guys can’t say a money has been used meanwhile the money is on hold. This is crazy

Worst App, No Transparency, Unexpected Requests For Sensitive Information, Poor Customer Service
Read this first, If you are considering registering with Nala. If you’re not comfortable sharing your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, your DRIVERS LICENSE, a selfie, your PAYSTUB, your IRS BUSINESS REGISTRATION LETTER, BANK STATEMENT, and potentially even more personal documents, then think twice before registering. Based on my experience, Nala did not ask me for all of this information during the initial registration process. Instead, they requested it later, one piece at a time. Had they asked for everything upfront, I would never have created an account. I only used the app to send a total of $2 to myself using my own bank card through Apple Pay. After that, I was repeatedly asked for additional verification documents ( Proof of income). I provided, a PAYSTUB, and my IRS BUSINESS REGISTRATION LETTER. Even after providing all of that, I was still asked for more information. Mind you, they already had my DRIVERS LICENSE and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. The experience left me frustrated and embarrassed. It felt like there was no clear end to the verification requests This is my first time coming across an African money transfer app that asked people for their SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. I provided it, along with my DRIVERS LICENSE, my PAYSTUB, and my IRS BUSINESS REGISTRATION LETTER. Yet they still asked for more information. At that point, I decided I would not provide anything else because I had no idea what documents they would ask for next — whether in a few hours or the next day. I’m only using the app to send my own money to myself. I’m not applying for a mortgage or personal loan, so I don’t understand why I was asked to provide so many sensitive documents. If they won’t allow me to continue using the app, they should simply close my account. Enough is enough. In my opinion, if an app requires this level of verification, it should clearly disclose all of those requirements before someone signs up — not after they have already created an account and submitted multiple sensitive documents. This was one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had with a money transfer app, and based on my experience, I will not recommend it. Because It feels like they’re more interested in collecting people’s sensitive personal information than actually providing a money transfer service. I repeat, I will not recommend it.

This app WAS good but not anymore. My account stated temporarily unavailable since Oct 2025. I contacted customer service and I was given a run around despite sending all required information. Their customer service is not prompt it’s like nobody knows what they are doing there. I met Benjamin Fernandez who is the owner in Boston during the 2023 Marathon and he kept promoting this app and actually help me download it to my phone. Please fix your issues with the same energy you promoted your app. Thanks

Don’t recommend
I do not recommend using this app because they refused to give my money In a nutshell I had sent money to a number that doesn’t exist. The transfer was cancelled then the money reversed to Nala. However Nala refused to refund because they don’t process reversals anymore. I have used this app for two years every month. I will not use it anymore. Poor customer service
