PLEASE READ. Amazing app, I recommend! But…
Hi! I’m Sophie. I’m verbal and I have PDA autism, ADHD, and ASD. This app is great! I struggle to communicate my emotions/feelings sometimes and this really helps. 💕 I have already submitted to “Feedback & Support” in this app’s Settings Menu to add the option to remove all LGBTQIA+ things for parental controls, homophobic people, and religious people or just people who feel uncomfortable about it. I’m one of those people who are Religious (I am a Protestant Christian) and I also am just 11 and I feel overwhelmed and/or uncomfortable on this LGBTQIA+ things. Please I’m begging you, add the option to remove. Thank you!

Not speaking labels
I’m a Behavior Analyst and have loved having this app to use for basic communication with my clients before they have accessed their own AAC devices. Unfortunately it suddenly stopped speaking the button labels out loud as they are pressed and will now only speak when we press the speak button to read the full sentence strip, and this is highly inconvenient for young learners with low effort response tolerance.

Just created my first board for my daughter to try tomorrow at such a late hour. It has been working fine then all of a sudden it says that I need to download the latest version to continue using it. I’ve only just downloaded it! There is no update available on App Store. I’ve deleted the app and started again but it just keeps saying the same thing and cannot get past that message.
Sound has stopped working after last update 🥹
This app is incredible! We have loved using it, but unfortunately after the last update the voice has stopped working when clicking on boards and communication book. When attempting to go to voice settings the app closes now. Pleas help!
Sharing App
It is great and easy to use but I wish it wouldn’t lose my created symbols when I share boards. I am trying to share between home and school and all my work is lost.

Says out of date even though I just downloaded it
On opening the app states it’s out of date and needs updating even though I’ve downloaded for the first time ever. App Store states the app was updated just 2 weeks ago to 1.0.7 so can’t be out of date.
Great but the maths question feature is not needed
I work in speech and language therapy and this app is incredible. It has so much to offer for free, and already comes with pre-made books and boards so for people completely new to AAC they don’t have to start from scratch. However, I am not a fan of the maths question feature that pops up when you try to navigate into a different area of the app. For example when I was trying to change something in the settings, I wasn’t able to open the page I wanted until I had correctly answered the pop up maths question. I don’t feel like this is a very accessible feature for some of the users of this app to have, and I have people I work with who wouldn’t be able to access answering some of the questions that pop up (I’m terrible at maths myself so I was caught off guard trying to answer them!). I can’t figure out if this feature can be turned off, but I feel it should be optional, as some users with higher needs may find this frustrating when they are using this app for communication purposes.

Suggestions
This is such a user friendly app to create boards for use within an SpEd classroom. There are a couple of features that would be great to have implemented. 1. The option to share custom symbol folders. We have found that creating your own symbol using Twinkl or phone photos does not appear on a shared board when you send the code to another user. The visual square is blank. 2. A login option for the app that syncs your boards between the website version and the app.

The app looks quite good although in the numbers fifteen is spelt wrong and can’t edit to change it. I will keep giving this app a trial and will feed back later.
Amazing!!
I have used Twinkl for years both for professional and personal use and love it but I only recently discovered Symbols. Now I am besotted! As a parent of a SEND child the app is so useful to have on my phone it is quick easy high quality yet simple to use. The option of printing out our own boards straight from the phone is massively time saving. The additional option of logging on via the Twinkl website is invaluable. Already I have used to create new boards for both my home and my classroom! Thank you. My only question is can I link up my Twinkl account and symbols app?
Brilliant app but not linked to an account
UPDATE in reply to developers comments: Unfortunately being able to share boards doesn't help me as I am using custom symbols :( This app is wonderful. It is the only one I have found (and I have tried many) which does everything I want it to do (except one thing - I'll get to that). I've been using it to upload my own symbols and photos, and create now and next boards and schedules. I love that it reads out the words when you tap them. Lovely user interface, the app looks great and runs really smoothly, it has never crashed on me. There are loads of built in symbols too. My one gripe? Everything is stored locally. Nothing is linked to any kind of account with Twinkle or anywhere else. That's a significant problem (and why I have only given 4 stars) because it means that anything I do on one device I have to do all over again if using a different device. A phone upgrade means I now have to start all over again from scratch :( I'd love to hear if this is a feature being worked on, because I feel I need to look at alternative apps to find one that links to an account as I don't want to have to rebuild everything whenever I change device.

Planner creation app
Incredibly supportive and currently free resource for a stay at home mum with a possible ND toddler. Being able to have access to this type of software is just incredible. Amazing range of symbols and easy to design boards or booklets. I hope this is around forever.
Amazing for my autistic son!
Firstly this app is absolutely amazing especially if you have a child/children with autism or learning disabilities. This had helped us show him what’s happening in the day and saved us from so many meltdowns, and it’s free which is even more amazing! My only thing I’d like to change is if you could sign up/ log on to the app so that you could access the boards you need on different devices, such as school device too home device as we have too make the same boards continuously for different talking devices. But that is something I can live with.
Really useful thank you for making it free
It has really benefited me as i am 15 and autistic and can not talk in-front of people unless i know them really well. This app has allowed me to communicate my thoughts and feelings and not get frustrated or lonely. There is only one thing i think would be useful to add and that is spell check if possible. A great AAC!
I’m an autistic youth who doesn’t have a lot of family support, so finding an AAC by myself was a nightmare at first: apps were either limiting in some crucial way, or ungodly expensive. Twinkl Symbols was a great choice for me, and I use to to communicate during meltdowns and when I just don’t feel comfortable using my voice, and it works great! The fact that I can pick my own symbols, make my own custom boards and there is a text-to-speech function are just a few things that I love about this app. Also, the fact that the developers are constantly improving it makes it all the better! I love thinking of suggestions, knowing that they could very well become features because of my feedback! Thanks team! This has been a lifesaver for me :)

Symbol app
As a long time user of board maker and communicate in print I love the idea of an app on my phone / tablet , symbols in my pocket when needed. The communication/ chat boards seems to be missing the link back to the home page and the only way out is to close the app completely and restart.

I work in Early Years at nursery level (which is notoriously underfunded) with non-verbal children. This resource is fantastic because it allows quick creation of visual supports, First/Then boards, visual timetables etc., with high quality graphics. Please keep this free. There is so little available for families and most pre-school educators which is not locked behind a paywall. I’m recommending this widely. Thank you!
