Yay
It’s amazing I love it. It will help so much
Want to like it but doesn’t work
None of the locations will load so it’s completely broken.
Very good
Very good at what it sets out to do, needs more awareness and use to populate the map more. Really needs an option to add venues that aren’t shown in the list.
Wish I could love it, but…
I wish I could love this app. But quite frankly, it is extremely laggy and difficult to use. I cannot use the location search half the time. The thing that really grates me though is the fact that making an account on this app signed me up for an email list without my prior knowledge. Said email list is about the app and accessibility in general, but whoever is in charge of this newsletter keeps promoting generative AI as if AI is making the world more accessible. Newsflash: AI is actively making the world less accessible to disabled people, I can’t believe that I have to get this garbage in my inbox once a month. Not impressed with any of it.
Good idea, poor execution
Really want to love it, it’s useful if you’re just trying to look at the reviews, but it’s very frustrating to use. Search function is terrible. Why do I need to move the map view over to the area the venue is located to be able to search it? It’s all so laggy that the already clunky system is even more frustrating. My biggest issue is there’s no option to leave some areas on the reviews section blank/mark them unknown, which is my biggest issue. I am not a regular wheelchair user, and when I do use one, it’s an unusually narrow one so my experience isn’t very useful. I cannot eyeball 36 inches and I am not going to carry around a tape measure. As is, the options are potentially ruin someone’s night or not provide any info. I’m also confused by there not being a question about whether bathrooms specifically are accessible without using stairs. Yes, there’s the different floors question, but some venues have balconies that aren’t essential to use of the space, and some single floor venues or ones that do have elevators or ramps between floors still have bathrooms only accessible via stairs. I’ve been trying to leave reviews on several venues that have this specific issue and can’t effectively. I’ve been noting this in the extra comments section, but it’s unbelievably annoying. The whole screen literally jiggles with every keystroke. Who could possibly have thought this was a good idea. It’s a nightmare. Overall has a lot of potential and is useful to view, just a real headache to contribute to.
♿️ Wheelchair user here!
I have my whole family using this app, able bodied or not! I have two potential improvements for the app down below. Thank you for creating this app, and reading this message. 1. Somehow get more reviews? Maybe make it more enticing to people? Rewards? Something that will keep folks engaged in how many places they have logged. 2. Allow users to DM each other!! It would be incredible to meet other local friends that also use the app / also are disabled!
Almost 5 Stars
I love this app both in purpose and function. That said - to the developers - please fix the permissions requirements! The app required me to share full access to my photo library and access to my Media and Apple Music and microphone and camera. All I wanted to do was change the profile picture. Because I set up my account through Google, it had my real image as the profile, and I do not prefer that for privacy reason. I decided I wasn’t too worried about it and gave it access to everything but because I have 74,000+ in my images library the app, then started to crash every time I tried to change my profile picture. Please make it so that “limited access” can be used to select photos rather than requiring all privacy permissions to be turned on. Currently there seems to be nothing I can do to remove my face from the profile. You have such a wonderful app please don’t ruin it by requiring privacy settings that not everyone will be comfortable with. I will absolutely change my rating to five stars if this is remedied!
Incredible idea!
This is a brilliant idea and I really hope the developer can keep updating and expanding. There are a few bugs that need fixing like the screen and confetti lagging once you write a review, or the app crashing every now and then. Can’t wait to see this app get even better :)
Loading issues
I wanted to use this app but I’ve only been able to view reviews already left, and anytime I try to add my own, the page will spend ages trying to load, and never finishing.
Requires sharing location data to use
I am new to the app. I was unhappy to learn that my location services need to be on and sharing data with this app in order to access the app at any level. Even if what I want to do is prospectively plan a trip and review locations in advance, my location sharing must be active to get into the app. To me this is a significant limitation. To save battery and some sense of control of my data, I don’t have location tracking and sharing on at all times. I certainly don’t need it for all of the benefits this app offers. That said, the app provides useful information and empowerment that is welcome.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfectly Imperfect—and That’s Why It Works
I found out about Roll Mobility thanks to the podcast, Walk and Roll Live: Disability Stories with Doug Vincent and Addie Rich (great show, by the way—give it a listen if you haven’t). After hearing the founders share their story, I had to check the app out for myself. Now, I’ve seen a few reviews saying, “The app isn’t perfect.” Newsflash: neither is my coffee order, my sleep schedule, or the GPS that told me to drive into a lake. But here’s the thing: Roll Mobility is perfect because it doesn’t pretend to be perfect. It gives the users—the community—the power to shape it, improve it, and make it work for real-life, roll-through-the-world challenges. That’s innovation with a soul. The founders clearly care, and the app is growing in the right direction. It’s kind of like a sourdough starter—give it the right ingredients (user feedback, passion, and purpose), and it rises into something amazing. If you're looking for an app made by people who get it and are inviting you to help make it better, this one deserves the download!
Broken
I’ve tried for months to be able to add reviews, but that functionality doesn’t work. It just takes you back to the map over time over. Cool idea, bad app
Incredible idea!
I love this concept even more so that there isn't a pay barrier! i think once more people start using and contributing to this the better. Constructive criticism: it would be nice if there were also options for other ailments, obviously it's important to raise awareness for places with full accessibility but an option to display places that may be accessible for crutch users but may not be for wheelchair users could be a neat addition. however, i can see why you also wouldn't want this as it could feel exclusionary to full time wheelchair users. but it would also be helpful for people who use other mobility aides. even just options to showcase accessibility for deaf and or blind folks would be cool.
Good idea
but needs a not applicable option. I had to give a pool a moderate rating because it doesn’t have accessible tables.
Needs more options
Need to add the following options or abilities: 1. Edit and update posts 2. Option for handicap access at back or side of location 3. Ability to manually input locations not found on map. 4. Add categories for handicap access for a location such as elevator, ramps, lifts, etc and number and location of access point 5. Add comments section
Awesome App!
This is a super app! Very helpful for differently-abled bodies.
What a disappointment
I was really excited as a wheelchair user to be able to share with other wheelchair users info on accessible businesses in the NYC area, because so many are not accessible. I never got past the sign up page. I got multiple error messages that my data couldn’t be loaded or my password was incorrect. I changed my password 5x and tried to reload more times than I can count. I’m done. Deleting the app now. It’s a shame.
Needs work, love the concept
I think this app has a wonderful mission and is working to do great things, I think there just needs to be a few fixes. I think there should a an “idk” button or a “some” button for places that have mostly accessible spaces but one or two areas that are problematic. There could just be some more ambiguous answers with a space to explain beneath. It also needs to advertise itself a lot more as the app only works if it has a large user base, which it needs more of. I think it could also use a button or a section to describe whether med bags are easy to bring inside or if it’s a hassle, also how the staff handle mobility aids. A place might be accessible architecturally, but if a staff member moves your mobility aid without your consent, allows for someone else to do so, or is just overall ableist, then it really isn’t as accessible as it could be, and that could be necessary information to include in ratings. Otherwise I do like the questions included so far and I like the ease in being able to look at a spot and see the red or green and determine how easy it might be to access.
Great idea
Sadly I can’t seem to review anything. Every time I try it asks me to login, which I do, then it bumps me straight out back to the homepage. Round and round like that until I give up.
It’s good, but there’s room for improvement.
I work with the elderly, and feel like this app could be a great resource. However, I do have a few suggestions. First, I think there should be an “I don’t know” option that doesn’t affect the location’s score. To me, an able bodied person, a threshold doesn’t normally grab my attention unless I actively trip over it. I don’t want to say there are no issues with the threshold if I don’t remember. This also ties in to places having the wrong filters applied. I reviewed a theater I attend regularly that does not have tables you can sit at, but I wasn’t able to leave the answer blank. Second, there are a few businesses in my area that are missing. I would like if there was an option to add a place. It may be a feature already, but I didn’t see it on my own. Again, I feel like this app has so much good potential. I sent it to many friends, and someone I know that uses a wheelchair. I’m hoping we can get the page for our city fully with reviews. Keep making improvements!
Important information!
The interface is easy to use and I really love the confetti that comes out when you submit a review!
Wish it worked
It’s such a great idea but search doesn’t return any results and no reviews are visible regardless of where I look. They used to be visible and searchable, now nothing at all shows up.
Overall a good app but could be improved
I love that the reviews are community based and made by other disabled people! Although, I would really like to be able to edit reviews I’ve left or delete them if I accidentally added wrong information. Also, being able to see the reviews I’ve left would be nice.
Not ready
Not easy to leave a review for a new place. Very frustrating getting stuck on pages I didn’t want to be on with no back button.
Great idea, more details needed
There are so many ways for places to be in/accessible that more easy-to-skim details would be helpful outside of reviews. It would also be helpful to have some degree of rating around air quality or masking accommodations since some of us are still avoiding airborne illnesses, and finding spaces that are accessible to us is very challenging. With some tweaks this could be incredibly valuable.
Extremely helpful
I write this with hope that even those from small towns such as myself will download this. Even if you do not use a wheelchair or live somewhere with a small population this app is incredibly helpful. Not only am I able to check places I have reviewed or others have reviewed to see the accessibility but I can also fill in places that haven’t been reported on or have been reported wrong. Even if you do not use any mobility aids I strongly believe that getting this app and filling out info on places you visit can cause a huge positive impact for those with mobility concerns.
Can not add reviews
Can not add reviews. There are very few reviews in my area, so it would be nice to add more reviews.
More precise questions for reviews!
Overall this is a really cool app and I look forward to collaborating with my community to start marking things on the app for my city! That being said, it would be great if there could be tweaks made to the review questions: -An “I don’t know” option that doesn’t directly affect the rating (sometimes I’m reviewing a place I haven’t been in a while and I just don’t remember!) -Clearer definitions: What are we qualifying as a “large wheelchair”? A manual chair with a wide seat width? A powerchair? Some more specifics would really help more reviewers accurately rate locations
Very buggy & unusable
Cool concept but very very buggy, phone number login & google login don’t work at all. Difficult to look up businesses, and once you go to a business’s page it may not let you scroll down to the reviews or swipe back to the map & you have to restart the app to do anything else. Tapping existing reviews sometimes shows a different screen but sometime does nothing. The location pin is also off-target compared to other map apps I have on the same phone. Since this is unusable I’m going back to the similar iAccess Life app.
Disability aid for non wheelchair users
I downloaded the app hoping that the review question answers would be available to look at. They would be extremely helpful for disabled non wheelchair users. I have EDS and use forarm crutches along with not being able to use stairs most days. Your app along with the answers I believe would help everyone navigate with their abilities.
Great app
Needs more categories - restaurant vs apartment complex for instance would help defined questions. Otherwise, such a great idea and tool! I think this will go far!
Great concept, absolutely useless
I was extremely excited to find this app. However there is absolutely NO WAY what so ever to add locations. Businesses aren’t even listed on the map to be able to click on from the map. When reviewing you can ONLY review predetermined locations and there is absolutely no way to provide additional feedback, contact the developers or any guidance on how to utilize this app. I live in Orlando of all places. There is maybe 30 businesses on the list already reviewed however there is WAY too much opportunity for this app to actually be productive for so little user interface. Why have an app of the users can’t do anything on it themselves!? I shouldn’t have to contact the developer to add a business to the app so I can then review it. Giant waste of space on my iPhone, which is extremely sad as this is genuinely something more than wheelchair users need in life.
Doesn’t work in rural areas
Doesn’t work in rural areas. There is no way to add locations to the map and many businesses in small towns don’t show up. Probably very useful in large cities but not for the rest of us
Not working to make reviews
Trying this app for the first time today, and while I was able to make an account, I cannot check reviews or leave any for where I’m at or have been. I acknowledge my little village is very likely unheard of, but I have also visited two national chain locations and cannot leave a review for either of them. Guess I’ll go ahead with my blog
Super excited about this
Very excited for this app. I love its questions. I do think an “idk” option should be available. As well as a service dog access issue question “did you have a service dog related access issue?” “yes, no, n/a” Very excited to use this. Could also include some information about friendliness of staff when accommodations are needed (could also just put in notes) and also the option to make broken. “Is there an automatic door?” “Yes but broken”
Wonderful mission, too buggy to use
Love love this app’s mission and intentions but it was too buggy on iOS to use. The search function was hardly usable, it automatically selects filters (don’t recommend that) and the search didn’t really function. Also I see how location access is helpful but you should allow the app to work without accessing location, let people search by town or business name or manually using the map. When I tried to sign up, similarly, the forms weren’t functioning fully and although I wasn’t using Voice Over, honestly I don’t think this app is digitally accessible (ironically). Problems with the form fields, the tap targets are too small, the UI elements don’t have the right order/ placement, and more. It would not pass WCAG 2.2 AA standard and likely wouldn’t pass A standards (lowest bar for accessibility). Please work on the bugs and the accessibility and the privacy and I’ll be happy to come back.
Nowhere Near Enough Users
I live in a fairly large city (over 1 million in metro area). Only six locations have reviews, and those reviews had no details or images of barriers. A red symbol is useful, but I’d rather know the exact problem. Are there steps at the door or just no lowered section at the bar. The idea isn’t bad, but it’s it’ll be pretty useless unless way more people start using it.
Amazing Idea … Needs Work
I really, really like the idea and the general concept, the execution is a bit lacking. It’s very hard to use the search feature. After I clicked the place I wanted to review (which was already a struggle) it stayed on the loading screen and wouldn’t let me review. It’s also hard to get out of the automatic review list, too small of a space to swipe it away. Obviously the app is geared toward wheelchair accessibility, if the reviews were more specific it could help with other kinds of disabilities too. Maybe more focused questions and/or more areas to rate could be helpful.
Incredible app for the disabled community!
Really awesome to see a group of devs create an application to keep track of what locations are not fit for the disabled community. The design is great and easy to use. The only thing I would suggest to the developers is to add a N/A toggle when something like table height is not applicable to a specific location.
Sign in hangs at handle
I would love to use this app, but sign in process always hangs at username. 🙁🙁🙁
Lovely idea, but the app doesn’t seem to work
I downloaded this app hoping to leave reviews for other people to use, but the app loads forever any time I try to look up business names or try to go to the review section of the app. I’d love to use it if it would let me
No Way to Add Reviews of places not on a predetermined list
The “Add a Review” section only allows you to select from a pretty random set of locations that roughly correlate to where you are. It doesn’t include the building I am literally in front of, but includes one 2.5 miles away. The building I want to review is even labeled on the google map! No wonder there are so few reviews for me locally. It would be great to be able to drop and label a pin with business information, or at least to be able to select the ones already listed on the google map. Will absolutely change my review of the app when I am able to add reviews for locations.
A good app
A good app that I wish had existed years ago!
Like AXS Map but with less functionality
This app is very easy to use, but it feels like a faint shadow of AXS Map - it lets you rate the entrance and the bathroom and that’s it.
