Oto review
I have already done the system once and will need to go back and fortify everything again. I believe the Oto system will work once I work with it for a while. I really cruised thru it the first time and want to start again but this time take my time and really grasp the tools presented. I could see some difference but still need to work harder on the nuroplasticity aspect of the course.
Disappointed
Unfortunately you are required to contact a health care/audiologist to get full access. I’m sure the app would be useful as it seams well setup but will not use if I’m required to consult and visit an office to proceed.
Noise
Hasn’t helped one bit in the 3 weeks I have been using it. Hopefully the later lessons will make a breakthrough. So far it has been a waste of money, time and effort.
Opaque Pricing.
I have no idea if this is going to work but the pricing policy is rather un-nerving, £107.99 for 3 months. How is this justified and what happens after this time period? Also, a trial period of 7 days seems far too short to then commit to a personalised plan. The cynic in me questions the business model.
Worth the money if you’re struggling with tinnitus
This app is the stepping stone you need to recover from tinnitus. It’s been one year since I got chronic tinnitus. I found this app for 3 months and I felt like my life was back to normal. Be patient.
Disappointed (Do not get the app)
I used to love this app. It helped me so much habituate and with occasional flares up I knew that it would help. I used this app to sleep every night. Disappointed in the fact that I now need a provider to approve me for a program in order to get full access. I’d rather pay a fee instead of having to contact a provider. However, relief shouldn’t be this hard to find especially with tinnitus sufferers. We already struggle enough already.
One of the best
To be honest I kind of realised running through the trial period material that (at the moment anyway) I've got my tinnitus quite well under control - so I didn't subscribe. I think the 79.99 is a bit of a hit but I liked the format and content of the app. I got the feeling that these guys are genuine and so I would have to recommend - if you can afford that yearly payment. Some people can't.
Issue with battery drain
On iOS 18.1, this app is draining 20% battery per hour on an iPhone 15 Pro. The only feature I’m using is playing background noise with phone not in use & the screen turned off. Phone gets exceptionally warm only when OTO app is running. I like the app but can’t use it if this continues.
Drained my battery
Left the app open in the background and the first night it drained my battery to zero. It was a slow drain starting around 7pm and then it was a rapid drain around midnight. I can’t have that so deleted it. Glad the iPhone shows what app was using your battery. It had this app using 90%.
Worth every penny
This app has been absolutely paramount in giving me a new perspective, not only on my issues with tinnitus, but many aspects of broader mental health as well. It has been very helpful in regards to making my relationship with my tinnitus better and I would highly recommend it if you are struggling. It was also one of the first apps o ever spent “real” money on, and it is worth it entirely. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.
Latest update removes functionality
Why did, in the latest update, you remove the ability to play sounds whilst browsing all of the app, and be able to change the background sound during a course? Seems silly. This app gets worse by the update, and is ridiculously priced.
A serious effort
Oto is a serious effort to help come to grips with tinnitus. The authors probably have it. Well paced , practical lessons. Good background sounds for different parts of the day.
Very deceptive
I used the app during the free trial and found it to be pretty good. There are lots of things that can be found in other apps, but I liked the presentation. My biggest issue is with the pricing. On their website, it clearly says it's £36 per month. However, the only option they give you on the app is $138. First, that's very expensive for an app that only does a few things margianally better, but whey the decpetive pricing? When I asked them, they said the web pricing is really just another way of spreading out the cost over 3 months. But, website doesn't have that dislaimer or, if it is true, then why not offer that as an option? It soured me on the company behind the app
It goes so fast through each exercise..
This app is very helpful except it goes so far through reach exercise. They could spend a couple weeks repeating the same thing over and over so one can learn each exercise before moving on. Yes, one can "heart@ each one they like, but it sound be structured to where you keep repeating an exercise as many times as you want until moving on to the next.
Very helpful
Loving this app. A week in and I’m have hope
Are you actually kidding?
I downloaded this because it says £10 a month, which isn’t great, but if it works…. Fine. I open the app to be greeted by this ‘7 day free trial then £107.99 every 3 months’. I saw no £10 a month option. Had you said, after your 7 day trial is over, it’s £100 every 3 months, and I wouldn’t have bothered downloading it. Ridiculous. 0 star, had it been an option.
great app!
what about a single ear (left/right) option?
not helped
I sincerely wish it had but it has not helped at all. No changes whatsoever. What a shame.
Wish I could afford it.
Seems promising but I can't afford it.
Really useful app
When I find myself panicking about my ear ringing, I know I have something to turn to with this app. I’m surprising myself with the progress I’m making and I know I wouldn’t be able to achieve that alone!
Awful
This app just takes typical CBT breathing exercises and repeats exercises done in previous modules. Uses typical mindfulness meditation. You can get this free. The Veterans Administration has a free app, which really helps with anxiety. Some of OTOs exercises are quite similar to the VA app. Go to the App store and get it free.
Nice idea
This has got potential to be really good, but it’s not got all the therapy parts finished yet. I’d sign up if there was more content to access
Started to help but it’s expensive…
I have been suffering from tinnitus for a little over a month now and I am desperate for help. I found this app and the first sessions were really helping me relax. As I continued I realized that I have to pay for more sessions and it’s really expensive. I really wish I could afford it because my tinnitus is driving me insane…why does everything have to cost money? :(
Still Confused
I have been using the app for over a week and it’s early days but I feel hope in it’s efficacy. However, I’m still unsure how to progress through the various levels and I feel I’m not absorbing the material (ie it’s not reinforced) before I’m into another topic. I feel the app needs more sigh posts and clearer directions and instructions. Alan
Really helpful app for those with tinnitus
Hard to believe there are only a couple other reviews of this app. I've found it incredibly helpful in managing my tinnitus; it's also well-organized and easy to use. I'd recommend it for anyone learning to deal with this problem.
Way too expensive!
$560 a year? Give me a break!!
Way too expensive for what it provides
I know the stress and anxiety of having tinnitus first hand and I'm sorry to say there are no breakthroughs here. Most of the useful information are available for free online and would take a couple of hours of focused research to find. The rest is mostly meditation techniques which are also easy to find for free. The value this app provides is mainly guiding you through which is not worth the very expensive subscription.
Money well spent. Getting my life back.
Though I've had low-level tinnitus for 20 years, in January 2023 I got a concussion. The ringing in my ears ramped up from a 1 on a scale of 10 to a 7 or 8 most days. After months of anxiety and tinnitus-related agony, and near-constant masking sounds to cover up the metallic buzz in my ears, I started the Oto program in May, at the recommendation of my ENT. I have done the app almost every day since. While the tinnitus hasn't gone away (or even gone down much), what has changed, thanks to Oto, is how much it bothers me. Most days, especially in the past few months, my tinnitus has been much less troubling. When it gets really intense, I now have a wide range of tools from Oto to help deal with it. Some specifics about the Oto team program that I appreciate: The Oto team is incredibly responsive. They promptly answer messages through the app as well as email, and have addressed my many questions thoroughly and kindly. As a person with PTSD, I appreciate the way the app addresses the trauma aspects of tinnitus. One of my favorite sessions is the one entitled "Resilience," which I've interpreted as "if you had the resilience to overcome severe trauma in your past, you can overcome tinnitus, too; in time, with effort." Another thing I like about Oto is their realistic description of expected results, as opposed to overblown promises often seen in other programs; or the "there's nothing you can do" approach of most doctors. Finally, the mix of education, self-guided PT, conscious breathing, and mindfulness exercises (that refreshingly don't require or push any particular belief system) have helped me not only with tinnitus but also other aspects of my life. While I have not reached full habituation yet, I am hopeful. In that pursuit I started 1:1 coaching through Oto. My coach is Gladys and she's been amazing, even helping me prepare for an overseas trip where I will be in less controlled environments re: noise than I'm used to. Both the monthly app and the private coaching have been money well spent.
Bait and switch
They promote their paid tier in the app, which is fine and there are several things that have a lock on them unless you pay. But they have you start a 6 week program and if you click ahead, there’s no lock icon on weeks ahead, making you feel like you can do the program for free and just not upgrade to the live counseling if you don’t want. well, after you do the 1 week intro, the lock suddenly appears on the rest of the course unless you pay $130 for 3 months.. screwed up for an app claiming to want to help. just be upfront and not shady, oto.
Trial period far too short
Honestly, the trial period of one week is too short for an app that is so expensive and one where you have to stump up the full year’s payment up front. Yes, it’s 9.99 a week but you have to pay for the full year in one go. It makes me think the developers are not truly confident it works for people otherwise you’d be able to pay for it monthly with the option of cancelling the subscription on a monthly basis (like most other apps). I would have tried it for longer if it wasn’t so much money required up front just on the off chance it might help. Trialling it for one week made no difference to my tinnitus.
Amazing
The sounds offered allow you to pick a masking sound that can provide immediate relief to help especially with sleep. The training and exercises have helped me in just over a week to be able to go most of the day without noticing my Tinnitus. I got Tinnitus as a result of loss of high pitch hearing in my left ear. This app has helped me see tinnitus is not a danger nor threat and is just my brain thinking it is helping. This app works!!
Cancelling service
You make it much much much much much too hard to cancel service. I thought I had cancelled this months ago only to find out I have been getting billed monthly. Reporting you to the Better Business Bureau
Good app to help shift your focus away from tinnitus
Mr doctor, who also suffers from tinnitus, recommended the Oto app. It provides short daily sessions to learn ways to move focus away from tinnitus and reduce its impact on your life. So I have found it helpful over the past month that I have been using it.
Snake oil salesman
If they really wanted to help people, they could do it for a more reasonable price
Amazing amazing app
This app is amazing for anyone suffering from tinnitus trying to habituate. Luckily I discovered it the first week I developed. The content is very helpful. I use it everyday - often multiple times a day and can say it has really really helped me.
App stalled
While setting up the app stalled out on “ what area can we help you with “
