Easily the best food tracker AND I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL
I can’t say enough amazing things about this app. I’ve literally tried them all. MFP, Lose It, Noom, Yazio, MyPlate, on and on and on. This is by far the best tracker. This app feels like a native app. The food database is robust. The barcode scanning is quick and accurate. It records nutrition data ACCURATELY to the Health app (with propose timestamps, Lose It constantly rounds it to 9 AM or 12 PM as if you can only have lunch at noon). It isn’t bloated like MFP. The iCloud syncing is FLAWLESS. It offers a killer app for iPad *AND* Mac. I can scale how many exercise calories I want to consume (only 80%). The level of control I get in such a simple and beautiful app is unparalleled. FoodNoms AI is legitimately USEFUL. Thank you for existing FoodNoms. Keep up the GREAT work.
Subpar and exploitative, no reason to use this app
Repeatedly changed features to move essential functions behind a paywall, automatically bills you for a full year after your trial period ends, and immediately removes access to premium features when you stop payments despite you still having time left on your subscription. Lacks basic features like barcode scanning, and changed others like calorie ranges to be essentially non-functional. Overall, a mediocre app at best with predatory monetization practices. There is literally no reason to use this over the many, many better options available. Look elsewhere.
Good but needs improvement
The app is convenient and I using it. It’s my second nutrition app. The interface is much nicer than my old app but the accuracy of foods is not. The other app was about 95% right and this one is say half the items are higher calories than what’s on the package. The AI feature isn’t great but you can trick it into making the food what it should be. The syncing with Apple health is a great feature but mine still will not sync. Once that is solved it will be a 5 star app . I use it every day for over a month.
Good while it lasted
Great app but the features and screen real estate being taken up by premium features that are locked behind subscription is increasing over time. Same progression as myfitness pal, start with a good app, use the user base to build your foot database, and cash in by making the app less and less usable for free.
The app is crazy but need more for free
We need more f features for free
Best Food Tracking app
Free version is great, gets out of your way and just does what you need. Bought the paid just because I loved the app so much.
Don’t get this app
Foodnoms was great and then suddenly required an upgrade to see most information and nutrients and applied the upgrade requirement retroactively. All previous information was erased.
Good features but no database for UK foods
I had been using another diet tracker for years which had been excellent, until it became very slow to find foods and I could not get support. I bought Foodnoms as a replacement as it was well rated. It is comprehensive and usefully links to Apple Health. I will grow to like it in time, but at the moment I miss my previous tracker. The “insights” dashboard is insightful However, I have found it frustrating to re-enter all my regular foods, especially as it gives me US options not UK. This creates extra work compared to my previous diet tracker. After spending a bit more time with the app I have found that scanning nutrition data from the food packaging works well. However, I cannot get bar code scanning to work, possibly because it is US oriented.
App went downhill
This app was a solid 4/4.5 stars. It was the only app I could find that let me specify calorie and macro goals as a range instead of a specific number. Welp, they took that out. Now you’re always either over or under. They still allow you to specify a range, but it doesn’t do anything except display a faint checkmark next to “over” or “under.” Notably, there’s no feedback about how soon you’ll be in or out of the range, which was the whole point. Separately from that, the AI features are mixed. When it guesses, it’s invariably *way* off. It does a very good job of reading nutrition labels as long as you are very careful to make sure to crop out any reference to what the label is for. Because if it sees the name of the food near the label, it will ignore the label and make random stuff up based on the name of the food. Also, scans cannot be edited, so if it reports 36g of carbs instead of 38g, you’re out of luck. And it names everything scanned from a nutrition label as “Unknown Item” so you can forget building up a list of common foods. So of the two features that made this app special, they took one out and the other only half-works. I have an annual subscription but I’ve already set it not to renew.
Really…
I thought this would be a good app for me to track my nutritions and what I’m eating, but while I was signing into it, it was starting to glitch and when I tried typing in like my weight and I accidentally typed in the wrong one and tried clicking on it again it didn’t let me so I had to go all the way back and restart it from the slide before and I filled out all the things, and it said that my weight was invalid, but I typed it incorrectly.
Speech to Text AI is great.
With all the other apps, I find it such a pain to nickel and dime every single thing that I ate, especially because I make a lot of my own food and custom meals. With this app, I can just rattle off all the ingredients to the AI Chatbot and it’ll cook it into a meal for me that I could log right away.
locks fiber tracking behind paywall
one of the most important things to track aside from macros is suddenly locked behind a subscription membership with zero warning. now i’m stuck scrambling to find an alternative to figure out meals this week as someone with chronic illness that needs managing. my partner and i will be switching immediately
Great but could be better
I like the app, the only thing I would change is to show a fitness section so you can see the exercise you have completed in apple fitness, the calories still show up but it would be nice to see a + extra calories from fitness labelled in addition to your normal calories. The AI section for finding food is ok. The barcode scanner isn’t as good as other apps. It’s 50/50 of the barcode is recognised. I really like the layout.
Slightly buggy
Unfortunately a good app has gone downhill slightly. Food logged for today seemingly ends up as being added as yesterday - so you have to manually check entries and adjust. The widget also seemingly has issues updating. If fixed, the app could be better than its competitors
Limited functionality
I don’t think it’s the worst app I’ve ever had, but I’m not sure how it got a 4.7 rating when it doesn’t sync with many of the major fitness trackers, Garmin for example. Also, the food searching database is limited. Barcode scanning is OK but does not have major food chains if you’re trying to keep yourself accountable out and about. The AI is very slow and limited as well.
Paywall bug fixed
Edit: Thanks to the developer for reaching out and correcting the situation of free tracking that suddenly was behind a paywall. My review has been edited to reflect how much I use and enjoy this app, and to reflect the quick communication of the developer.
FUBAR
Fugetsboutit. Difficult to use. I enter a food. Ok logged. Enter next one, ok but previous ones gone!! Try another says ok but not logged. DONOT TOUCH!
Functionally really great
Please update the macOS design to match the iOS app design, otherwise it’s great
Stupid Notifications
Telling me i have shortcuts wich will not work anymore. Dont even have the shortcuts app installed Otherwise nice app 😂
Restricted menu
There are many items I eat that are not available either app. Makes it difficult to accurately measure calories
Better than competition
Great app, though I don’t personally love some of the Liquid Glass interface changes. Appreciate the developer responding to feedback.
Support issue
I updated to the newest iOS and now my background is black. I emailed them and they sent me a bunch of support articles but it doesn’t show how to fix it. I’m now giving them one more day and if they don’t respond, I will cancel this app and find something else.
Robust food tracker
Overall, this is good app. It’s not buggy and doesn’t crash. It allows a lot of flexibility in food and macro tracking. There are a few things that I’d like to see improved: 1. Add the ability to track exercise. Or at least the ability to enter calories burned and have it offer to deduct those calories from your daily total entered 2. Add the ability to scan nutrition info without having to dig through menus and add it as a new food. If I’m eating a packaged meal, a meal kit, or even eating a quick add via scan would be such an improvement
Not for the home ethnic cook
I cook from scratch, Arab food, Indian food, Chinese food. This app not really suitable and I’m struggling to cancel it.
Syncing issue
Doesn’t sync between iPhone and iPad using iCloud
Back to five stars since the original issue was a bug.
Good stuff. Originally I wrote this review stating that the app locked once free features behind the premium version. The developer stated this was a bug and has since fixed the issue. Kudos to them for a quick turnaround time.
Past chart data lost if subscription ends
The data and charts for past goal charts goes away if your subscription ends, even though you paid for that time period.
Makes macros easy
Fantastic app for its interface. Like with a lot of trackers sometimes you have to add products in manually. Only con for me is that you can’t scan drink bar codes and instead have to select from their defined drinks, so there is only one generic white wine option for example. This is available on My Fitness Pal. Pros are that for the first time in my life I’m interested in macros, I’ve lost weight easily, and it’s a lovely looking app. It was between this and My Fitness Pal (formerly I used FitBit) but glad I chose this one. However please makes drinks scannable too 🙏
Database feels very US-centric
Looked up Caffè Nero, a popular uk coffee chain and there is nothing. Found same issues elsewhere. Such a shame as such a pretty app.
Good but needs improvement
Originally was impressed but as I’ve been using it I encounter lots of incorrect information. When they allow corrections to be submitted I always try to send pictures with the nutrition label and hope that they adjust it for everybody Restaurant databases are small. There are many things that I’m finding are not there, including for popular restaurants like Dairy Queen. And unfortunately anything that is branded, at least for restaurants, they do not allow us to flag as an accurate or to submit relevant information. I would also like to request they consider adding better search filters. Such as if I type in a brand name or a restaurant name, I should be able to have it show me the results only for that particular brand. Unfortunately it will mix in a lot of things with it.
Keeps me organized and planned
If I plan what I eat, I stay on track. I can plan my entire day and hit all my goals before my first cup of coffee.
Stop asking for reviews
I’m here to bring the party down. Stop asking for reviews.
great app
however, would love if there was more option of foods and brands and more things were free. great and really helps me on my fitness journey though!
Need lots of improvement
The best ui app available for calories tracking but their have no any food database available. So I can’t continue with this, everytime I have to manually upload the calories data in app.
Nice but not what I need
I wanted to love this app. It’s appealing and intuitive. The “scan nutrition info” option works amazingly well. The problem is that the database simply did not contain the foods that I eat. I had to enter way too much by hand so that it wasn’t worth my time to record my intake. The support people were pleasant and responsive when I had a question.
The Best Food Tracker
I’ve tried a lot of the other food tracking apps. This has the best index of foods and the layout of search results makes even better. The use of AI in the food logging is really good. Try it out.
No free plan
The app store claimed there was a free version but the app only offered the paid plan.
Good but not geared up for UK
Love the app overall but would be nice if you could add a bank of UK foods and keep this being updated over time. I’m sure if you do something like this even more people would use it
Good design, bad functionality
Please include German food database to justify the subscription pricing.
It’s complicated
I want to track but this is too complicated for me.
Love it
Almost gets every food accurate haven’t really had a problem with it
Locked out overnight
I have a yearly subscription. The app is lacking in flexibility but the scanning feature was useful. Now I am locked out and the app won’t accept my password. Will not renew in October
Amazing if not best but 1 issue
It’s tailored to the United States and not really the UK, the barcode feature works very well with UK foods, just needs a database. It’s helped me to portion multiple servings of food which I couldn’t do or was worried about when cooking for my family (which Weight Watchers couldn’t help with) because I wouldn’t know how much calories would be per serving if I cooked a “big batch”
Great Idea
Unfortunately, there is no german market support
Promising but Buggy
Really like the feel of this app, but two bugs in particular are causing frustration: • When adding a food item, scrolling down to nutrition then scrolling back causes title, serving weight, etc. to reset • Scanning a barcode for a new food item works. But if I edit its details before saving the entry, they don’t save in my app’s database. This is especially strange given I’m able to submit these to the online database
Best food tracker for iPhone
I’ve used several different calorie/nutrition trackers over the years and was happy with another for a while but they changed that one and I ended up trying this and I absolutely love it, hands down the best one available for iPhone.
Review Request
I don’t like being bothered about reviewing apps every time I open it. It is a paid service, if you demand advertising from me, pay me for it or leave me alone.
Simple but effective
Tried most of the other calorie counter apps out there, and every one of them either lacked some important functionality or was riddled with ads (or both). FoodNorms looks much simpler but it does what it needs to do and does it well, and surprisingly the devs so far have resisted the urge to add ads, which is a rare thing, and which I’d like to support by subscribing to the Pro version! Well done!
Really good however
So this app is phenomenal in its layout, functionality and simplicity. Also, it can be synced across all Apple devices, and has a somewhat decent price plan but in spite of these features making it incredibly easy to use and accessible; the database is not quite there where I can speedily log food like I can on MyFitnessPal. MFP has every food or drink known to man, and it makes the process efficient enough where I don’t have to keep manually inputting food into my daily log. I’m a little unsure as this is my first day, and if I buy sort of the same ranges of food, I could probably have a system of foods I can keep logging automatically but that aspect of it definitely needs a lot of work.
