Awesome app
The app offers you impressive features for being completely free (Subscriptions are optional). I’ve been a user for about a year now and I can surely tell that this is one of the best macro apps out there, simple to use and convenient for those who are always on the rush!

Clumsy, scattered and totally unintuitive
Wish I Could Adjust Calories for Daily Exercise
I really enjoy this app, and switched over from a different tracking app because this one is more user friendly and looks better. However, I’m thinking about switching back because the old app had a feature where you could adjust daily calorie goal based on calories burned for exercise- for example, in the old app I would enter in that I burned 200 calories by running 2 miles, and then I would eat an extra 200 calories to stay healthy. Now with this app I still eat the extra food, but now when I look back on my month I can’t tell how well I have been hitting my calorie deficit goal. Please add a feature like this MacrosFirst!
Doesn't list Fiber as one of the main nutrients tracked
I really wanted to love this app, but my dietitian wants me to track fiber, protein, carbs, and fat. This tracker lists protein, carbs, fat and calories in the main section next to each food item but not fiber. You have to drill down into the other nutrients to find fiber. People have been requesting this option for two years and it still hasn't been instituted. I've since deleted the app.
Downgrade
I’ve been a long time user of MacrosFirst. And the recent updates to the app are actually a downgrade in my mind. Specifically, the way that you enter in and create meals via the daily mails section. It seems like the app can do a lot to become more intuitive and user-friendly.

Good app
Calories are off from what it should be
I recently purchased another truck that also lets you track macros and they compare the results to the same foods. The calories protein carbs values were absolutely different. I then double checked the nutrition information online and it turned out that values in MacrosFirst are significantly inaccurate My example was with chicken breast and it’s inaccurate for 100cal and 10g of protein. When you are in a calorie deficit this amount of numbers matters a lot
MACRO TRACKER
At first, the app was a little confusing, but once I got the hang of it, I really started to love it! I love that you can add your own food or drinks if they’re not already in the app. The precision and level of detail it provides is also really awesome and makes tracking everything so much easier. Overall, it’s been a great app for keeping up with my nutrition and macros!
Disappointing out of the gate
I tried the paid trial version and the very first thing I scanned didn’t work at all. The protein powder I scanned the barcode for didn’t show any nutrition details at all. When I tried the scan nutrition label feature it was full of mistakes (read 1.5g of fat as 5g and read the protein amount as 74g when it’s actually 24g). Because of this the app is unusable for me, I’ll be cancelling the trial right away so I don’t get charged.

not really worth paying for imo. I can’t scan anything in, everything has to be manually entered. might shop for something different but this is the first time I’ve tracked my macros.

Want an app that tracks macros for free? Easily? No fuss? You found it. I’ve used this for a year and it has truly helped me moderate my lifestyle. The interface is easy. The design is simple. Its catalog of food is massive. And if you go out to a restaurant and get a burger, it takes maybe a minute to add a new food. I use it for tracking most days and I honestly enjoy it using the app. I have absolutely no complaints. Oh and get a cheap food scale if you’re serious.

This is a SCAM app charges you non stop wether you cancel it or not. Even if you don’t sign up for one at all. IVE CONTACTED APPLE AND EVEN INACTIVE IT STILL KEEP CHARGING ME 41.99. SCAM ALERT. App will steal your money! Do not use!
Great but two major annoyances
I’ve been using this app for a couple months now and overall am very pleased. The number of features they provide on the free version is impressive! And I rarely have to manually enter a food (even for restaurants) because the number of items they already have is so vast. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why I need to essentially confirm adding food to the journal TWICE. You click into the meal, search or scan your food, insert the amount and save. But that simply adds it to a queue that you have to save again! I have had to redo so many entries because if you don’t save it the second time and you leave the app for too long it wipes out everything you’ve entered. Even if I remember all the details it’s super frustrating to have to enter it again. But it’s even worse when I have no recollection of the serving size and there’s no way for me to retrieve that. I use a scale a lot, so if I haven’t taken down the weight somewhere else, that information is just gone. I wish it would save it to my day the first time. Then if I get pulled away and can’t finish entering everything from my meal in one session, it’s there for me to pick up and finish later. I have ADHD and a toddler so I rarely finish entering everything from my meal in one session. Saving too aggressively is much easier to recover from than saving too conservatively. I’d much rather have to delete things that were saved too soon than lose information I can’t get back because it’s saved too late. Also my husband and I share meals and recipes back-and-forth quite frequently. When I open a recipe he shared with me and select log it to my day a date picker and list of meals shows up. If I select the meal but then change the date, it resets the meal and I have to enter it again! The meal selection should not be affected by the date picker. This one is more of a nuisance than a functional issue, but it’s still aggravating. If those two things were fixed this would be a five star review.
Not that good for uk
Compared to apps like nutracheck it is a lot more expensive and does less. I’d say 50% of things I have scanned haven’t been in the database. The Ai function is good but still quiet off with amounts. Maybe in the future it will be better if the database is built but right now I definitely wouldn’t recommend if you live in uk.

I really am disappointed I use to love this app in 2024-2025, the recent update is HORRIBLE. Please go back to the old app. It’s so hard to properly calculate your meals, Difficult to search and log already made meals, and it’s too much cluttered on one screen. I might as well give my fitness pal my money! I will be deleting this app.
Challenge to cancel!
App is fine BUT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL. 3 attempts to cancel my subscription and I’m still not satisfied that cancellation was accomplished. Very aggravating.

Like the new updates, but laggy
I really like the new updates where you can plan your meals and have a set menu for the week. But for some reason I can’t go back and add missed meals anymore. I can choose the foods but I can’t actually log them - the button doesn’t work. And the app is running sluggishly. Needs a bit more debugging.
Let me down
I was so excited about this App, but it doesn’t Scan many foods I eat that another App does. Also, I couldn’t change my Profile info😝 I’m definitely switching Apps!
Nice but buggy since the update
I have been using this app for a while and have really enjoyed it so far. Unfortunately, it’s being a bit annoying since the update. As I live in Germany, I often have to log new foods. This has always been relatively painless, but since the update the app just freezes when I try to do that. Additionally it is no longer possible to enter the macros per 100 g that’s not logging at whatever the portion size is (which automatically calculates the macros for that) and then edit the food so that that weight it is saved as the portion size. Adding new foods now takes forever.
Great App!!
This is the only app I have ever used to track my food and keep up to date with my progress, I love how this app is free to use. You get so much with the free version.
Inaccurate
After using this app for years and not seeing much progress, I finally realized its calories are underreported by up to 300. This is a huge and unforgivable discrepancy and their database should be checked and everyone who downloads this app with the hope of making progress should not have to go into this blind.
Good free trial, convenient but imperfect AI logging
I like the trial, because I really want to get a feel for if an app like this is accurate and convenient enough for me to stick with it before I pay for it. I love the convenience of AI logging but it can be inaccurate sometimes (for example I was describing a meal that included lean chicken and it came up with Alfredo with lean chicken lol…there was no Alfredo mentioned). Hopefully the AI will get smarter and more accurate as time goes on.
Good. Just one note to think about.
The app is good. I find it really useful on my weight loss journey. It allows you to see everything you eat and drink, even down to the vitamins and everything. It only gets a three star because One thing I do wish it had, (maybe a note for the developers to add?!!?…. ) would be the ability to subtract the calories you’ve burned throughout the day from your total daily calories. That way you know how many calories youve actually consumed and how many you’ve burned through workouts and walking and daily activities. (Kinda like the MyFitnessApp.) I’m not sure if this option is available on the “membership” type plans, but the free one doesn’t have this option.

Login loop
You get the app, fill out questions and then need an email for a login link. Link takes you to a browser page that says download app, if you open the app it asks to open your email. No way to get past this loop of open app/open email. Maybe it works if you click premium instead of free.
Excellent BUT numbers are off!
Wonderful amount you can do and access without a subscription. The issue is the calorie count is off. If you update your macro and cal goal it will let you accidentally go over 100% and not adjust %'s if you change calorie number. I can also reach all macros and it still says there's 150+ calories left which just doesn't make sense. Maybe a rounding issue?

Great app
This app has really allowed me to understand the foods and the breakdown of all the Marcos I’m eating so easily. I love the scanning feature and it really helps with my understanding of the proper nutrients I need in a day. Love it!!
Can use without a subscription
Don’t waste your time. You can’t use it without a subscription. Go through the whole set up for nothing. Total scam
Excellent app
I’ve been using this consistently for the past few years and it’s awesome. The free version is lots for me and makes it easy to get a glimpse of my macros. The UI did change recently though, which I don’t really “love” per se (flying icons aren’t my thing) and it can be kinda glitchy. The simpler version was better, which is why I had to give it 4 stars.
Great app but not for UK users
Wish I could use the app as it looks so good but it has a super limited database for UK users. I’ll keep the app in mind and come back to use it when it’s expanded it’s databases.
Best tracker
Best tracker but please can you do a widget for iPhones? It’d be so much better to have the app right in front of the user

This app acts like it is free. It’s not! You have to get the premium version to even use it. Very deceptive and frustrating! Just say that it’s a paid app.🙄
My review on macros first
I love how it tracks your macros your calories your fat your carbs and your protein it gives me a good idea throughout the day how much protein I'm having and how much calories are left for me to have as well as how much calories I have consumed so far...it makes it a lot easier for me to hit my goals because I have an idea as to how much of everything I'm consuming every day it also has a nutrients tracker which means I could track my nutrients and it's easily customizable as well I can create my own recipes and my meals as well

Says 13+ but won’t let me put my actual birthday and age. Just keeps going back to 2007. Extremely annoying.

After the new update you have to go into your settings to update how your info is displayed. Which I didn’t realize. Thank you Macrofirst for letting me know. Still a very solid app.
