Artists first!
Pointless app
This app is useless for flowing the view comics I want to follow. There is no way to just go to them to see the latest, instead you are flooded with every comic on the platform whether you follow them or not. I don’t understand why on earth it is laid out this way. Deleting right after installing.
Great artists on board, great concept model, app/service needs more features
First off this is a great model for webcomics. The artists get paid, I don’t have to deal with ads, and the subscription costs are reasonable vs something like subbing to a dozen patreons. The app/service really needs a few more features like RSS or email digests (make these premium, I’d pay more for them!). Also an iPad app! Seriously these days why build iPhone only? Glad to see many of my favorite artists and hopefully many more will onboard soon!
Just a wrapper around a web view
This app just wraps a web view of the site, with no native navigation elements. I was unable to find a search bar, and navigating comics is painful. There doesn’t seem to be an easy Next/Back system, but rather some links to other comics in the series at the bottom that may or may not be populated. As others have mentioned, requiring notifications in order to follow comics is a nonstarter (thankfully you can disable them again after following). More annoying is the unfunny comments at the bottom of every comic. They can’t be hidden, and they ruin every punchline. Finally, it crashed after about 20 minutes of use. I bought a premium membership, but based on this experience I’ll probably read a few more comics and cancel it.
Best I’ve found
Hard to navigate but does support funny comic artists so I deal with it.
Makes me smile daily!
This app makes me smile daily! I love seeing new comic strips from a variety of artists. The best part is you help support the artists directly. This app is a must if you love comic and the artists that create them!
Low effort app
Poor navigation and no native iPad support. I’m not reading on a tiny phone screen or a poorly upscaled blurry iPhone app.
Great App!
This an awesome way to view comments. And I’m much happier seeing some revenue flow to the artists rather than catching stuff for free on Instagram. The notifications keep me from falling behind. The UI keeps getting better. I’d kind of like the strip summary to go away eventually, or maybe hide after I’ve seen it unless it’s changed. A bit more focus on the content and less on extra data and UI. But the app continues to get better. My only real complaint is that I want *all* my favorite comics to be there! (And I’d happily pay a higher premium for that.)
Awful notification settings
I would like to have the ability to only see notifications for the comics I am subscribed to but the application is sending me notifications for other comics and for kickstarter projects.
Tom Tomorrow sent me, anonymously
Creators need to be paid, and when Dan announced in the Patreon email that the strip was moving to Tiny View, I followed and subscribed. It’s a fine little app with a couple of ridiculous vexing choices. First, if you want to have an account and get some sort of benefit, you need to enter a phone number. Nope. We already have a relationship through the App Store. I don’t give my phone number to anyone I don’t believe has a reason and permission to call me. What’s up with that nonsense? Then, if one wants to “follow” a strip, a balloon appears, demanding, “You need to go to Settings and allow Notifications.” No, I don’t. And I won’t, since you demanded it. Perhaps I’d respond differently to an invitation to be made aware when my favorite cartoon has new content for me. That’s different, isn’t it? Perhaps in future versions, they will be more respectful.
Comics!
I love the app and the business model that gives me access and a way to support artists of the comics I read daily
No support for problems
Sent in a request for help through the website because the app would crash on the loading screen every time. That was acknowledged on February 6, and it is now April 7, still never heard anything else.
Good, have a couple requests
Glad to support comics. Wish there was a way to support and view in the web. Sometimes I just want to keep scrolling between comics. The up/down arrow is a break in that flow, and is not always around.
Good comics, bad app
I downloaded the app about 45 minutes ago and it’s crashed on me twice. Also the user interface is clunky and not intuitive. Finally, it should be easier to scroll through previous comics
5 star content 2 star app
I subscribe for the creators, specifically Fowl Language and Lunarbaboon which are both fantastic. But the app itself needs work and makes it difficult to read the actual comics. - I don't like the comments, I want the comics - hard to swipe between comics - too many taps to read each one - awkward lists that are hard to understand This puts me in a difficult position because I want to support the creators of content, but the app itself is disappointing.
Best comic site ever!
One of the only places on the internet that actually pays their artists to make comics!
Ugh
Never loads from a browser/other app, always wants an update every time I use it and is impossible to search. Can’t seem to favourite a creator without paying for a subscription; an all round a bad time in my experience. I get that people need to make money from their craft, but webtoon and tapas do it so much better. Wish the creators I am following were available on those platforms.
Nice idea, odd implementation
I like the idea of paying for comics, and in fact have subscribed to a rival comic’s subscription service for 20 years. I wanted to branch out a little and try something new, but the app makes it way too hard to read the comics. When they named it “TinyView” I had no idea they meant it literally. I can’t read the comics since the text is too small, but that’s only when you manage to get to a comic. There’s no scrolling view of comics to view, just links to comics, which means there’s lots of tapping and scrolling just to get you to the opportunity to view a comic. The final blow was when it forced me to turn on notifications and then spammed my phone with notifications. In short, other than having good feelings of making a donation I can’t see any utility at all to the app. The subscriber gets nothing out of this deal.
Not my favorite way to read webcomics
I want to support this app because they pay the artists, but my first day on it I’m not super impressed with the layout. I am going to stick with it and hope more of the artists I follow on other apps join up, but wish the comics themselves were more front and center and scrollable.
Access
Really great having access to my favorite snarky comic.
Great comics but not user friendly
I like this app because there are several comics that I follow but the app itself is awful. If you find a comic that you like and want to start from the beginning you can’t do it easily. There is option to click to see the first comic but you can’t then move through them sequentially. The only way I have found is to scroll down to the list to the first and then go through them but this takes a lot longer than this sounds as it scrolls about 5 or so and then it has to load more, No good if there’s 100 episodes. I just want to find a comic I like, go straight to the first and then scroll to the next without faffing about please.
Too many in app purchases and ads!
I’m already paying for the app monthly and now you can’t “like” a comic without the pop up of sending gifts. I want to send gifts but not every time I like a comic. There are also ads now on an app I pay for. I only use it for 2 comics in particular but those are 2 I like a lot so I must use this app.
Great Comics!
I love Tinyview because it’s an easy-to-access way to view all my favorite comics and they support the artists fairly! It’s well worth the donation!
Bad app
As others have said, good comics but such a confusing app I don’t even use it anymore. Didn’t even remember I’d paid for a subscription which I now regret.
Sigh. Comments? Really?
I previously considered the app to be 4 stars (docked a star as I can’t zoom in on comics and that makes some stuff hard to read/see on my phone), and that’s why I’ve been a subscriber for some time. The addition of comments is frustrating. I like this because it is NOT social media. I simply want to scroll through the comics I follow, like the comics (to show support for the artists and make it easy for me to find what I last saw). I don’t want to see comments. But the only way I can “like” a comment is to create an account and login and then I see comments.
Support artists!
It’s cool to support the artists and fun to read the comics
No iPad app
Please make an app for iPad, that uses the full screen. Not just a ported iPhone app.
Good content, bad format
I really dont like using the app because it’s hard to find the next episode. Would like to see it formatted like tapas or WEBTOON.
Joined for Fowl Language
I joined for Fowl Language and when caught up will try the other comics. I’m current a bagel level support (because I’m unemployed) but will up my sponsorship level when I can to keep this great little app going.
Comics are good, but app is not.
The navigation in this app is utterly confusing and poorly thought out. The tab bar should be the top level view and contain three separate views, and never pushed onto a navigation stack. It should be constant. The menu doesn’t need to slide-in. It should just display the menu as the tab items view. I recommend the developer read Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and learn how tab bars should be used. It would make this app much better and show off the brilliant work of the cartoonists.
Needs to support iPad landscape mode
App is ok, does fine for phones. But I read my comics on an iPad and it’s in a keyboard case. Very irritating to have to turn it sideways, keyboard sticking out, to read the comics. Otherwise it’s fine.
Keeps getting better
A must get app for cartoonist and comic strip fans.
Bad interface
I love all the artists on this app but I wish I could open it up and see a mix of the comics I follow. It’s the same recommendations every time boo-rinnng
How do I find first unread?
As others have said, the UI/UX kind of stinks. My biggest complaint is that the app doesn’t seem to keep track of read vs unread strips, or give a way to navigate to the first unread strip of a series. I installed the app to read Frankie Fearless, which is an app exclusive. The series is a serial story, where each one has to be read in order. If you miss a few and need to catch up, it can be tedious to find which one you need to read next.
The panels fit on the screen
At least so far...
App is pretty terrible, but the content is great!
Seriously, how do you make an app designed to do one thing (read comics) and make it so hard to read the comics I subscribed to? If I want to discover something new, give me the option, but don’t force it on me (or worse, which the app does, give me the option but forget it every time I come back to the main screen). Also, looks like you need to give them your phone number for an account? To read comics? Shady! But, I love Fowl Language and Lunarbaboon, which have app-exclusive content, so it looks like I’m stuck with this.
Better, still needs work
Much easier to get to the goods, but only because it was so bad before. Still no list of followed comics. Still no pinch zoom or breakout panel view. I wish the app devs would realize some strips use small text in the comics that is impossible to read with the static viewport. Just noticed they have “Next” and “Previous” reversed under comics. Come on, guys.... I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
