Shipping Info Confusion
Love B&N! I’ve even enjoyed the cozy booky feeling the app somehow manages to deliver-however the past two weeks I have been trying to place an order and the notification before checkout saying “please wait-updating shipping” seems to remain active and this check-out can’t be clicked. I am curious if this is a bug issue(?)
Please work on the Order History section of the app
While the old version of the app had its issues, the new version is less intuitive. My issues are mostly with the order history section of the app. In the old app, it would allow you to open an order and see when each item was expected to come. It also allowed you to track them. Now, in the new app, you can’t see anything about an expected delivery date for any items in the order. There’s a button to “track”, but it doesn’t work. I also wish the book covers were still shown in order history. For customers who order frequently and in large quantities, it can be a nice and easy way to double check what has been ordered already.
Helpful For Saving time
The app needs work, little updated, but buying book with membership with free shipping is really great full, you don’t waste time on choosing a book (if you already have a list of books) App lets you buy it and just pick up at store. It lets you know what is available and if you preorder mangas or books, you can do it ahead of time with this app.
Faster than before, but lost features
Searching and loading in the app is faster than it was before the major update, but we’ve lost some pretty helpful features. Filters and scrolling location reset when you return to the results, order history lacks actions (like being taken to the product’s page), and I really liked being able to see receipts in the app. Overall, one step forward and two steps back.
Membership
Ability to put membership card in the Wallet would be helpful. My phone number never pulls up my number at the register. And logging into the app required looking up a code from my email all while at the register holding up the line.
Terrible
Why is it so hard for Barnes to create a user friendly website or app? The new app/updates have not helped the user experience at all. I want to browse and shop B&N over other retailers but they’re making it really difficult.

Could be better
The app is pretty good except for the order history. If you have a problem with tracking your order just go to the website, sign in, then just check your order from there. I’d honestly recommend just to use the website instead of the app until it’s updated

the barcode scanner is a hot mess, meaning sometimes it detects a barcode and others you have to keep closing the app over and over again until it works. For a big retailer this is amateur hour at its best. 🙄

Please add an easier list feature so I can quick add books to different (wish) lists that much easier without the need for pointless extra clicks ie let us add lists and add them straight to those rather than to the wish list then our chosen list
App is Useless. The prior was 1000x better
Yesterday, I updated to the new app. It states that e-books cannot be downloaded from there. My prior cart (with e-books) was not there after I had logged in and it recognized me. I had to go to the website to see the full details of my account. This was August 31, 2026 so maybe there was a glitch or maybe there is some short sighted rationale for the change but it makes the experience horribly user unfirendly. In the response, the developer confirmed that this feature no longer exists and stated to hit the purchase on Barnes and Noble. That feature also did not work on the 31st. It has since worked infrequently. What was not addressed in the developer’s response was as to why the features for e-books that was there and made things simple for the consumer were not incorporated in the new app. I also agree with the others that it is very slow.
Orders Section Is Completely Useless!
The new update has completely rendered the Orders section useless. Nothing loads, including my current orders and preorders. I now have to log into Barnes & Noble through a web browser on my phone just to view orders that should be easily accessible within the app. As someone who frequently preorders books, being able to quickly view and keep track of upcoming orders was one of the main reasons I used the app. The previous version handled this significantly better. Please fix the Orders section and bring back a functional, easy-to-view preorder list.
Doesn’t work. Actual garbage
You’d think a multi-billion dollar corporation that overcharges for its products could afford to hire a decent app developer rather than continuing to disappoint their customers. Fix your piece of garbage app. Every time I can’t log in and easily find what I’m looking for, you lose a sale to a competitor. I will not be using the website, as suggested by your staff. I have the app for a reason and that’s ease of access. You’ve made it beyond difficult. Keep it up and soon I’ll just cancel my whole membership altogether.
Order History page is useless
PLEASE bring back the covers and release/shipping dates on the orders page. You can’t even click on the books you’ve ordered to open their description page anymore
Disappointed
the apps layout is not the problem. i actually very much like how the app is set up. but its so incredibly slow and glitchy all the time. i know its not my internet or phone. because it happens all the time and ive used it on many devices and seen other peoples reviews say the same things. it would be lovely if the app was created with more care and ran better
Wishlist doesn’t display
You can add items to your wishlist but the wishlist doesn’t display. The only way to see it is on the web.
Horrifying updates
The recent update has completely ruined the app. The screen is always stuck on the beginning and it refuses to allow you to browse other books or even check out.
Not usable
I cant even successfully order through the app now. Each time I’ve tried recently it gets stuck saying it’s “updating the shipping method.” Have had to purchase through the website instead.
App is trash
I love B&N, but this app is absolutely trash. You can’t search for anything without is constantly refreshing. And something to your Wish List? The section you’re on automatically refreshes and wipes out your search settings. It’s ridiculous. I’m not even going to a different section of the app. It refreshes even with the Wish List popup. Something with the settings. For example, I search for Blu-ray and 4K in alphabetical order. Why are those settings wiped out any time I add something to the Wish List? I’ve literally been pulling away from Amazon to support B&N again because the stores have been getting better over the last few years. Stop telling people to force close the app. Stop telling people to clear the cache. Stop telling people to turn their WiFi on and off. Stop telling people to uninstall and reinstall the app. Stop telling people to restart their phones. Stop telling people to close other apps. Stop telling people to empty our carts and put everything back in. You’re a billion dollar company. Hire REAL developers. Quit using AI to write your code. FIX YOUR APP.
Can’t order through the app anymore?
Every time I try to preorder books, or even just order already released copies, I get stuck with the ‘please wait — updating shipping for your cart’ message and it would appear that my stamps are also incorrect on the app.
The new updated app
It’s even worst that the previous app and that’s not saying much. You are just going to have to use the website for most everything anyways so don’t bother wasting phone storage on this worth piece of horse excrement—honestly horse manure is more useful and reliable than this hellish app.

I keep having issues with the app in the new update with logging in. Also, I placed an order via app and received a confirmation via email, but the next day the items are still in my cart and the orders don't show in my purchases (which was a preorder, so I can't even rely on whether or not they come for a long time).

The new app is frustrating and useless. So disappointing.
Just use the website instead
Feels like I downloaded the website I was excited to try this because I shop at Barnes & Noble and thought the app would make browsing and buying books easier. Instead, it mostly feels like the regular website squeezed into an app. Pages feel slow, things are awkward to move through, and I kept wondering why I didn’t just open Safari instead. For a bookstore I actually like, this is pretty disappointing. I expected something smoother and easier to use.
