What people like
- Unique way to draw in 3D space
- Great for visualizing scenes from different angles
- Video tutorials help you learn the basics
What they complain about
- Monthly subscription price is too high
- Drawing tools feel basic and limited
- Steep learning curve makes it hard to start
- App crashes and deletes your saved work
Different kind of tool
I am not much of an artist overall but this app adds some new dynamics to what I can create. I have been enjoying using the visibility in the bookmarks which was the last tutorial video. It allows me to “animate” simple changes within a scene by duplicating an element and then moving it or altering it. I have only used the app limitedly. I also bought it years ago I think when they did a lifetime purchase, so I am not sure what is available in the free or trial version now. Worth trying out. I have also used Feather App some and this one for me is easier at the moment because style of canvas creation and duplication.

Hi can i buy a one time plan with my apple id?
It’s too confusing!!!
I’m working on a movie and there are NO apps that DON’T have a freaking watermark! I need an app that I can use to draw 2d in a 3d space, cause that’s the style of my movie. This would be PERFECT, but I can’t pay to get rid of the watermark! (p.s., the UI is too confusing! i don’t know what anything does!)
Would Have Been Great As Premium
I would have sung this app’s praises if only it was sold as premium. Meaning, a fair and reasonable one-time price. I refuse, though, to rent my applications. Especially ones that do not even slightly warrant this overused and ridiculous monetization scheme. If the way this app is sold were to ever change in the future. Then I would be happy to pay upwards of $20 for it and revise my review and rating accordingly. Luckily, a similar program called Feather just released and its sold ethically, for one fair price. Again, I’d be happy to reward the developer for their hard work and time put into this really nice art application. But, I just see no need though to pay for eternity for an artwork application. Commercial applications were never meant to be monetized through subscription plans and it’s a shame this trend is so rampant today.
Nothing else like it
Extremely unique, well worth the install
Im so mad
It was going perfect at the beginning then I don’t know where after I finish my three hour artwork it decides to kick me out of the app PLUS delete the whole canvas in my first scene project i hate this.
Great but needs some adjustments
The app is great, but it’s not as user friendly as it could be and it doesn’t have as much compatibility with Procreate as I’d hoped. Still use it all the time!
Too expensive
I was just roaming around and thinking what’s the practical use of this app. Moreover it’s expensive too.
Yes
Love it! The paint bucket wont work though
9/10 needs some work
Pretty good, the concept is really cool and it’s fun! That said it’s not very user friendly and the art tools are kinda mid, there needs to be some kind of blending tool or something or the option of other brushes. But other than that really good! (I have the free version btw)
My review is dead somehow. Here we go again I guess.
I originally asked if this was available on Mac/PC, but then I opened the app, read some reviews, and…yikes. A paywall that doesn’t even tell you how to pay? 62GB of storage space for a day’s work? Sucking up to the subscription trend? Bruh, do y’all WANT this bird to die before it gets to fly? At least this doesn’t track people or lock them out when there’s no internet connection like Feather does (which had the smarts to at least LOOK like a one-time purchase thing). My suggestion to you: - Ditch the subscription service and account system. It’s not ethical or sustainable, and I’m embarrassed to think about this peak innovation rotting behind it. - Optimize the drawing storage. Records show it’s not efficient, like, at all (again: 62 GIGABYTES FOR A DAY! [my iPad can barely fit 2G with all the other stuff I do on here]). - Accessibility options for folks that don’t have Apple Pencil. Maybe have an alternate mode with a separate UI for camera movement controls and the fingers just draw? Idk just make something that can work for non-Apple pen users. - Clear and unobscure instructions for how to do stuff and implement basic functions that haven’t put in already. The most common complaintsI seem to be getting from the reviews is about unintuitive and missing functionality that is second nature to 2D programs. This innovation is amazing and it sucks to see it shafted by such simple lapses of judgement on the developers’ part, but as long as you developers are willing to listen to, understand, and act on user feedback such as my own, it’s not hopeless. We can fix this, together.
Very innovative - Could use one more feature
Super interesting software. I love the ability to develop a sketch spatially and 3-dimensionally on my ipad. It’s great for sketching out a space during a flight. I would love if these sketches could be exported in a 3d format with textures- that way I could collage some of my sketches into my 3d models and integrate the sketches into my workflow.
Difficult
I really don’t understand how to do it. I’ve watched tutorials and I just like… it’s impossible
Where are the feature updates?
I got this app over a year ago and put it down hoping for more features, better eraser control, 3d transforms, etc but nothing has changed. The last app update was 11 months ago. That’s crazy. This app has so much potential.
Hey
The app is stunning! But but but but why is it not being updated??
Keep losing art…
Every time I work on something and get in the groove of things the app crashes and closes itself.. I reopen it only to see everything I’ve done is gone even if I’ve saved it multiple times throughout the process… will be deleting. Very disappointed, many wasted hours. Would rate 0 stars but not how it works unfortunately.
HELP
I love the concept, idea, and the tutorials are great to teach you, but I couldn’t draw on any canvas even following the tutorials. So I spent half an hour just trying different canvases and trying different colors and brushes but nothing worked. HELP!
Pls help with this
The only problem I’ve had with this app was a VERY big one. I was not able to draw, at all. I looked in settings but everything was normal. Because of this I had to delete this app. Sorry for the review but I can’t just give it 5 stars if I couldn’t even start. :/
Great, but overpriced
While this app is amazing and is a great, innovative experience that transforms the way that you make art, it suffers from both paid plans being horribly overpriced, with it costing $49.99 for the creators edition that only gives you the ability to remove the watermark and publish a single scene to the web, which in my opinion, isn't close to being with that amount of money. The other paid plan gives a few other features like more publishing, training sessions, and priority support, but costs $59.99 a month. If the price for the creators plan cost $9.99 or less, I think the creators plan would be far more worth it, and attract more people to this software. The expensive price on this software is for sure a huge problem with this software that is otherwise phenomenal.
This is amazing
Welll it’s hard b/c I want to do zoom in art for my friend but I couldn’t figure out how but now I know and I working on a master piece 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 this is sooooo much better than all the other drawing apps b/c every time I zooom in to do zoom in art when I draw all I can see is pixels uggg but not this this is perfect
Need to give email address to use
In order to use this you must either create an account, or give them your email. Last time I did that just to try out an app I received tons of spam. No thanks. Uninstalled.
Better than expected
Actually a well made app that draws nicely and is easy to use. Apple Pencil support is really good and everything is smooth and satisfying. It is a little gimmicky though, missing many basic features of a drawing app and only a few brushes. Which makes the 25£ one time fee a little inflated right now and the 53£ a month?! absolutely ludicrous. In time, with more features, support and updates this could be a really solid app worth the 25£ asking.
Good app but…
Got the notification of the one time purchase of the Creator version. I was about to buy it, but then I saw the free app will only upgradable on the single device. I have three iPads, including an iPad mini, and I use them all in different scenarios. So this restriction totally kills the deal, and I am deleting the free app. Shame, and something of a foolish decision by the developer.
Needs a feature where you can flip the direction of drawings.
This is a feature that NEEDS to be added. It would be so much better to correct the direction of something if you screw it up.
Great app but a problem I’m having
It doesn’t let me draw? When I tried making a line all it did was move the camera.
Review
I hate that I have to sign in and it keeps kicking me out. I don’t want to get the app.
Question
I can’t draw anything on the drawning mode ! The others work fine, importing layers and all are okay the viewing also seems to work fine. How will I be able to draw? Ive seen the tutorial and it doesn’t answer my questions…Help?
UI
Great idea that’s painful to use, buttons that could be used to ease navigation of objects are used for things like resizing windows and the gestures require a hefty learning curve. Really wonder if tests with a handful of artists/designers would clarify what users expect when they use apps like this - both in navigation and controls. I would gladly pay for it if it was more intuitive - I already paid once to try out what they have to offer but right now I can’t rationalize using it when just learning to use it eats up time I could use to do similar things in other apps
I Paid. good - but lacking QoL
I paid for the creator version… Excellent and simply amazing, worth every penny! Sadly… Mental Canvas BADLY needs quality of life updates - like yesterday. Their silence and lack of updates.. makes me hope this company is ok and not going through hard financial times. ———————— QUALITY OF LIFE FEATURES (Keep us IN the flow) I am understanding Mental Canvas is not competing with: - Procreate - Photoshop - Affinity Photo - or any of other deep artistic apps I totally get it, Mental Canvas has it’s own lane and tries to keep us within the territory of their tools for 3D planes and not wanting to boggle us with too many features. It’s a beautiful and unique lane. But… MENTAL CANVAS .. bhaaddlyy, needs the following quality of life features: • Blur • Liquify • Mesh Warp • Some Blend Modes • Auto straight Lines and Auto Shape By Mental Canvas lacking these basics I listed above… Mental Canvas FORCES us to leave the app EVERY TIME we want to blur, or liquify, or do any of these **primitive** special effects listed above. and so.. here is a typical Mental Canvas process: 1. leave MC app 2. open another app 3. Adjust make changes in other app 4. Export to photo gallery or icloud 5. come back to MC app 6. Import updates Really Mental Canvas? This is when Mental Canvas starts jumping into the **annoying zone** and totally ruining flows. I really hope you guys figure this out.
I love it
I Am learning to use this app more every day to great!
BROOOOOOOO
This app is so hard to use the tutorials don’t help I’m deleting this app. You can’t change the size of your brush. The paint bucket barely works. I do not recommend this app
First review ever!!
This is my first review ever and Its WORTH IT!! Completely blew my mind with the Potential this app has. ✌🏻
Too expensive - not intuitive
Firstly this programme does have promise. The effect is fantastic but £53. PER MONTH is just ridiculous I’ve no idea where they have come up with that. It’s not over intuitive either. Thankfully there are tutorials but a few improvements would help the user. But pricing is ridiculous.
Unable to change aspect ratio
Earlier i was able to change aspect ration for canvas now its gonne what the he’ll developers trying to do
Really great idea
UI Ux and sketching tools could be refined but it’s a great start to a cool app
I can’t sign up because of my age
I don’t know why my parents email because I’m nine so I can’t sign up I’m sad at least have an option for me to sign up with Google
everything is superr good but
we cant make any staright line s or circles or squares automaxtically i yoi would add that option it would become the best drawing app
Review
I tried to import png layers so I could create 3d effect. The menu is clunky, and nothing works the way it should. My layers don’t ever align as in the original project and I had to realign all layers again in this app. I’ll get adobe cloud and sort it in after effects. Thanks but 52 quid per month is a big stretch (even as a one off)
I cant draw
I downloaded app then i tried to draw with my finger but it didn’t do anything, then i tried my offbrand tablet pen thing and still didn’t do anything Please Help
Really makes my Procreate drawings pop!
This app fits seamlessly into my workflow. I can save the layers of my art as png and drop them into Mental Canvas. It’s a great way to add dynamics to my art and helps me to push myself creatively. The in-app video tutorials have been incredibly helpful as I get accustom to the app.
Way too expensive
This software is absolutely incredible, but considering how much adobe software that you can subscribe to for the price of this apps full access alone is a big thumbs down from me. I want to use this in my work regularly, and was about to make this my main drawing software until that I saw the subscription price. Super bummed. No single software subscription is worth that much per month.
I’m gutted!
Absolutely love the app, but unfortunately I cannot use it as I don’t have an apple pen 😩☹️😩
Keeps freezing on iPad mini 6
Please update the app thanks
Meh
Look, I bet it’s a great app and the ratings are pretty great.I just didn’t trust the “sign in with email to get code to use it” thing. Nothing wrong with it, I just didn’t want to go through the trouble. My email is slow for no reason. That’s all :)
Incredibly Powerful & Expansive
To say this app allows you to “go outside the box” doesn’t even begin to express how powerfully it expands your abilities. Unlike any other tool I’ve ever seen or used Mental Canvas makes infinite canvases for drawing(acknowledging that you’re drawing on a 2D screen) which can each be positioned at any angle, distance, relation to the other layers/canvases and then travel through your creation by saving particular perspectives/positions and zooming from one to the next as though you were hovering in 3D space. The drawing tools are relatively basic/simple, probably for the best 90% of the time but I would like to see SVG imports and basic vector type integration. Otherwise the limits are imaginary. Well, and cost. I’m generally happy to pay for well-made apps rather than be advertised to or having my data sold to fund the development, but I’ve had a difficult time justifying the ROI for this one. I want it to keep up to date and progress, I love to use it from time to time but I haven’t quite cracked how to make it worth the paid investment.
Drawing Function Isn’t Functioning
None of the brush tools are working, and upon reading other reviews it’s seems I’m not the only one with this issue.
I CANT DRAW
I’m using a stylus and doing everything but I can’t draw and I was really looking forward to doing animations but I can’t
You need a pen.
Looks cool but the lack of foresight on the developers part to not include a fingers only mode severely brings this down. If the issue is that there is no way around both drawing and navigating with your fingers just include a button to switch between the two. Disappointed for now.
Beautiful app
I love it…makes my designes and or cartoons alive… One big , even a huge con….you can only use the app for 1 week off line, so if you live somewhere rural like in the Pacific Northwest , with no internet connection, you have to drive once a week into town or a city to activate it again. So in fact you pay for an app, but the company still controls if you can work with it, i think this should be told and explained in the FAQ, before you buy it…. I wonder what the developers would say if they buy a new car, and afterwards they find out they only can drive it for 7 days and then they have to go back to the dealer to activate it again…I bet they would ask for a refund…. But otherwise its a cool app
