Great Self Guided Tour
The tour guide is great and the app works relatively well. You start the tour and then it auto plays the relevant section as you enter a geofence. Each explanation is a perfect amount of information and there are plenty of resources to deep dive on each topic if you want more info. You can easily quit and come back when you are ready to continue. Every once in a while the geofence wouldn’t trigger and you would have to manually play it, due to GPS struggling to get a lock in certain areas. This was pretty minor and did not break the immersion overall. Pro-tip: on IOS ensure you set the “always allow” location permission and not just “when using the app” or it won’t work properly.

Great Tour, minor technical issues
First off this tour was great. Immersive, good content, and the app is designed pretty well overall. I really enjoyed the tour and was glad I did it. That being said, I was really annoyed when the audio would restart or change because the gps jumped around which happens frequently downtown when surrounded by tall buildings, especially when the points are close together. The graveyard was the worst with many close together interest points. Also, the audio that’s already playing should never restart itself when I cross the threshold. Let’s say I want to start listening early as I walk towards a point, but then I reach the point and it restarts and won’t let me skip ahead. This also happened if gps jumped out of the circle and then back in, forcing me to relisten to the whole thing if I wanted to finish it.

It's a very clunky app
Not necessary
You don’t need the app. The trail is marked by a red brick path. The start and end points are posted on the website. Each site has signs describing the historical significance. The app was not helpful and we stopped using it after the 2nd stop.
Worth it!
I believe it’s well worth the money for the audio tour. I like that you go at your own pace and it picks up automatically when you walk by the points of interest. My kids listened to it through my phone speaker and learned a lot.

You have to buy the tour to be able to access the map or any information
Great, But Battery Drainer
Honestly, this is great for the price and I was able to walk almost all of the freedom trail with my fiancé at our own pace and checking out other shops in the meantime. My biggest complaint is how much battery it drains and how it can be laggy at times. I mean this thing drains it like no other and I actually had to stop walking the trail and continue it another day because I didn’t have enough charge to continue. Definitely needs work on the backend. Other than that it’s great
Almost no content, waste of $$
After every stop we looked at each other and said “that’s it?” This app has a great idea but delivers almost no content and information while doing the Freedom Trail. I was expecting more history and info than 2 sentences. We had lots of time between stops that the app could have added way more details about where we were. Wasted opportunity. Such a disappointment and it was not cheap. Find an alternative.

A great option for a self guided, self paced tour of many important Boston monuments

There are options that say “included” but when downloaded you get charged $16. Had to call Apple to get a refund.
Frustrating Functionality
It was based on a great concept- of using location services to trigger the narration. But it didn’t work. It jumped all over the place. I could not follow it and when I tried to manually control it without location services it still malfunctioned. Definitely too many bugs to justify the cost. I was able to read the text- but it was only mildly interesting and superficially informative. It was NOT worth the hassle.
Highly recommend!
My sister and our husbands took a trip to Boston and wanted to walk the freedom trail at out own pace. This guide was WONDERFUL! The map was intuitive and knew when we were passing a landmark on the trail and would just start talking. Very informative and WAY cheaper than paying for a group guide. I definitely recommend if you’re wanting to walk the trail!

Sparsely Narrated
I found this walking tour to not have robust enough historical information or detail. I also like walking tour narrations that will give you landmarks and descriptors of where you’re at so you can just listen to it versus constantly looking at your map to tell if you’re going the right direction. Each historical site only had a minute or two of narration if that.
Best way to see the Freedom Trail at your own pace!
We loved doing the self-guided walking tour of the Freedom Trail. It was the perfect way to explore Boston’s historic sites without feeling rushed by a large group. The self-guided map was very easy to follow, taking us through all the major Revolutionary War landmarks like the Paul Revere House and the USS Constitution. Being able to stop for photos whenever we wanted made it a much better experience than a formal tour. If you're looking for an affordable Boston tour that hits all the Freedom Trail highlights, definitely go the self-guided route!
Where are my tours??
I just purchased the bundle package with Freedom Trail, Salem, etc. I leave in two days. Just opened the app again to plan everything and I only have the Freedom Trail tour. No option to find the other tours. Ridiculous.
Enjoyable and useful
I purchased and “took” all of the tours in this app. As someone with not much knowledge of the city beforehand I found them to be informative and insightful. I would have enjoyed more “learn more” options as well as a way to know if you’ve already heard one of the segments before. Taking all three tours there were a few points on things like the Tea Party which came around more than once so an advance warning of that might be nice. On top of this I would recommend purchasing and downloading the tours ahead of time, they don’t download quickly whether on 4g or wifi - I think it might be a limitation of the server they are downloading from. Once downloaded however the app works well. Thanks
Lots of Empty Space
The 15 ~2 minute long explanations that pretty closely mirror the plaques/signs you find at each location is not worth the $10. You get ~30 min of content for a two-hour walk - lots of empty space and time that could easily be filled with the countless, myriad stories and facts that make the time period so interesting - instead you’re walking in silence for the vast majority of time. Additionally, there is no common narrative theme - the very few stories are disjointed and seemingly random. Tip for the writers - listen to the “Road to Hana” driving tour by Gypsy Tours. Fascinating, captivating, and fills the three hour drive to the point where you don’t even realize it’s been three hours. Fantastic content and delivery.

Took too much money and now doesn’t work
Unfortunately this is a SCAM 1) I bought a package of walking tours advertised as 19.99 USD in the ap, which when i bought charged 19.99 pounds (not the approx 16). 2), two days later, I open the app and only one of the multiple tours is there- I can’t restore by reinstalling etc
Great idea, poor performance
App continually asked for a comment on how I was enjoying the App and then it would freeze. Tried all the usual remedies to unfreeze with no luck. Eventually gave up using about midway thru the Freedom trail.
Very smooth
My mother and I were looking for something new to do, so we decided to walk The Freedom Trail. I absolutely loved using this app. It was seamless, informative, and operated perfectly. We both very much enjoyed listening to the narrator, and pairing the app with a beautifully sunny day in Boston!

GPS Made it hard work
The actual information on the guided tours is good, however it would be helpful for actual directions to the next landmark. We ended up forgetting the whole idea in Harvard because the gps was saying we weren’t exactly where we were on the map and it was hard work to try and find the next spots.
Wonderful addition to my trip!
I had done the hop on hop off bus the first full day of my trip in Boston. I wasn’t sure what to do the second day but decided to get up early and walk the freedom trail. This guide was perfect! It provided guidance, direction, interesting information, and little stories for while I was walking. I also added on the Bunker Hill tour at the end. I had a great time! I highly recommend touring the USS Constitution ship.
Didn’t work offline as advertised
Every time I tried using this app offline it would just give me a wait indicator and say ‘preparing app’. I couldn’t find any instructions on how to use it offline.

I love this app! I wear hearing aids that have blue tooth. The guided tour plays right to my hearing aids and I don’t miss a thing by not being able to hear a tour guide.
