The Bear Note app is known for its wonderful UX, and Unread meets that definition for me.
Subscription for basic features
30 dollars a year for basic features like changing the icon and article actions. And yet I can’t do something basic with the text like change the font. No thank you.

My honest review of Unread
• I moved to Unread after my old RSS app crashed too often. The move was smooth. • The OPML import worked with no errors. All my feeds loaded at once. • The design stays out of the way. Nothing sits between you and the article. You just read. • Tags group your feeds into themed lists. You can open one topic and catch up fast. This makes it easy to stay current on your favorite subjects. Unread earns five stars from me. I recommend it to any reader who wants a clean, distraction-free RSS app.

Miniflux Support
I hope to support miniflux instances, although the fever api can indirectly support miniflux, but fever does not support slide read, and also in the phasing out, the official are not recommended.
Swiping is bad UX
Unread looks really nice, but the usability is poor. In the interest of minimalism it doesn’t have any buttons or navigation, just swiping which is a terrible method.
Doesn’t remember place
I’ll leave an article half read then come back later, and it’s lost my place. (It’s been like this for months, not a recent bug.) Footnotes (tapping …) show up in a white background even though I’m in dark mode, resulting in the dark bedroom being blasted with light as my partner sleeps.
great app, lovely developer
after years of being on Reeder I somehow discovered this app that solved a lot of the little needs I had and some that I didn’t realise such as full article loading (with login credentials for paywalls) and the link+article support/view
Information density sorely lacking.
The layout of the app is hardcoded to font size. If the smallest font size is selected, information density does not change rather the amount of whitespace in the app increases. Which is a horrible design decision. One which apparently will not be fixed as it has remained consistent since the app was acquired by the current developer. This may seem like a small complaint but in the age where 11"+ iPads exist, it's simply ludicrous.
Good replacement for Reeder
Reeder Classic has started having issues with Newsblur, but this RSS reader is SOLID. Only thing I’d like is the ability to remap keyboard shortcuts.

Where are settings?
I’m not seeing any of the menu options shown in the description. I cannot change color theme nor am I finding how to save to something like Instapaper. What am I overlooking? Where is the settings menu hiding in this minimalist app?

Wish I’d known this app existed before since I was looking for a way to share the highlighted text with the article and I just couldn’t find any app that did that in fact I was even thinking of writing my own until I stumbled across Unread 👍🏼 And shoutout for loading full articles whether from a link post or otherwise. After years of using Reeder I hadn’t realised how much of a boon this would be.
Clunky and poorly thought out
- Does not show all articles - No navigation buttons, and the “swipe” does not work most of the time; there’s a reason people put in navigation buttons - There should be no reason to make an account. If’s literally just news articles why do I have to make an account to view the news??? Overall a very miserable 5 minutes. Uninstalling and not reinstalling :(
Love it but might switch back to Reeder
I love and adore this app, and recently paid for a year which I have no regrets about and like supporting indie app development. However, I might switch back to the dying Reeder for two reasons: 1) No Google Reader-style shortcuts (J/K pervious/next, M mark read/unread, S star.) Would also love an easy way to edit those (I don’t use QWERTY so want to remap them to those finger positions on DVORAK/Colemak). macOS doesn’t let you add shortcuts for single-key shortcuts, and Modifier+Key is too much when kicked back leisurely reading with no hands on the keyboard. 2) On iOS, text weirdly goes behind the Dynamic Island, while Reeder adds a bar to the UI to section off the island so text isn’t around it. I feel uneasy when text is there like that.

Not user friendly. Searching for feeds a miserable experience.
“Keep Unread” the only problem!
Enjoying this great app but unfortunately the “Keep Unread” feature doesn’t work on any of the platforms I use (iPad, iPhone or web).

Komme mit dem Aufbau nicht klar
Ich komme mit dem seit längerem so „modernen“ minimalistischem Design nicht klar. Ich musste in der App zum Beispiel ewig suchen, bis ich die Einstellungen in der App gefunden habe. Oft wäre halt ein kleines Zahnrad in einer Ecke einfacher zu finden, als überall in der App erstmal diverse Wischgesten testen zu müssen. Vielleicht ist die App ja super, wenn ich alle Möglichkeiten der App kennen würde, aber die werden vermutlich auch irgendwo versteckt sein.
One request
First off, great app! The only thing that would put it at 5 stars is if you provided a dark/black theme with the source a shade of gray. Right now all the themes have the source as a red or blue color. I find that when I scroll my feed, my eyes are drawn to the colored fonts and my eyes should be drawn to the article title instead. Thank you again for a great app!
Way too expensive with no Mac app
RSS readers are a dime a dozen these days. This is a good one with many options but way too expensive for just an iPhone and iPad app. For that cost it must have a synced macOS version.

Excellent RSS Reader
I’m using Inoreader as my RSS backend and Unread as my frontend. It has a really nice, clean interface, it works and syncs great across MacOS/iPadOS/iOS, and has some really nice little features like letting you log into paywalled sites where you have an account.

Removed Features
The original author of Unread, Jared Sinclair, was a one-time colleague of mine. It’s changed hands a couple times since his 2014 release but the boat was left generally unrocked, until now. I realize apps are moving toward the subscription model. I don’t object to Unread going that way; but to swipe long-familiar features – in particular, the ability to prefetch and display full articles – from customers who had paid for the app at least once before and lock these behind a new paywall with no warning is not the way to make your users feel valued. I’ve chosen to give my money to Reeder instead.
Narrow view on iPad is a step back
I have the same problem as other reviewers. V1 is my favorite RSS Reader, especially on the iPad. V2 just seems like a step back when an article just uses 50% of the screen in landscape mode

When did this start costing $20 a year to use
Useless app that stops working unless you pay $20 a year. I’d pay a reasonable one time fee, but there are too many free alternatives. Look elsewhere.
Fantastic on iPhone, iPad needs work
This is an absolutely fantastic app on the iPhone. However, everything is comically large on an iPad. As other reviews have mentioned, changing the font size only seems to increase white space not information density like on other apps.

Website Accounts feature: game changer
I just came back to Unread from a couple of years with Reeder Classic because of the promise of Website Accounts. I subscribe to The Economist which only shows partial content in its RSS feed, forcing you to click through to the website in Safari. Now Unread can save your login and extract the full text of the target page, meaning I can read continuously in a single app. Very polished and convenient, well done dev!

Yet another developer forcing a subscription and claiming it’s needed because they chose to bolt on a server–required feature. Let the dollar sipping app continue on its own, without your support. NetNewsWire is free and will likely be all that you need.
Navigation/UX is unintuitive, but the article viewer is 10/10
I don’t care much for the design of the app and find the UX to be unintuitive, but the reader/display of articles in the best I’ve tried out of a half-dozen or so RSS apps - it’s really freaking good! I just wish the dev would add integration with Miniflux API, for that sweet, sweet, mark on scroll functionality that fever cant offer.

Delusione totale
Mah dopo tanta attesa, e visto anche il prezzo, mi aspettavo ben altro. Una minestra riscaldata che tra l’altro perde anche il supporto a FreshRss direi che non vale quello che costa.
Almost perfect
UI and gestures are buttery smooth and I love it. Full text extraction works really well and is presented beautifully. I would prefer some additional options for user customization, especially with the font. I do not like the default font in this app and there is no option to change it. Please update to allow for font customization! 🙏🏻
Not convinced about the release
While I’m happy that the app retained the looks, I’m simply not convinced about the minor changes in layout of the articles (less spacing), the big tick boxes are definitely a step back, with new subtle changes in animation that are for the better; can’t quite figure out why have we have narrower views not on iPhone and less spacing between articles on iPad, as it definitely doesn’t translate to a better experience. Some major new features for those who need them, and subscribing to feeds is definitely something I’ve been looking forward to. First testing looks like one step forward two steps backwards, and the price is quite steep to give it a shot (especially since you have to buy a year of it).
Simply the best
I have tried just about every RSS reader for Mac, iPad and iPhone. Unread is far and away my favorite. The design helps me focus on the content, not the interface. The article actions allow me to save posts for later with a double tap of my finger. And the latest update now allows full articles to display from my New York Times subscription. Outstanding app by a terrific developer.
Nice Design
The app seems well designed, a different take on the RSS reader. I didn’t get to really give it a complete try though because I use miniflux, which supports fever and google reader APIs. Unread supports only fever of the two, and fever doesn’t support marking read on scroll. That’d be okay if there were other effective if there were perhaps other options, like “mark read all articles above” or below the selected article, but if there were such options I couldn’t find them. I’d love to give it another go if another compatible api was added.
