Ruined by “UI improvements”
The overhaul of the UI to take advantage of Liquid Glass has completely broken common workflows. Here’s an easy one: open a thread, switch to landscape (maybe accidentally), switch back to portrait. The app is now completely frozen with a broken UI state and needs to be force-quit. Come on.
Best client I have used so far
The Liquid Glass update is mostly great with one minor issue: the In-App web view now opens from the bottom, making the swipe back gesture no longer possible. A switch to change to the old behavior would be appreciated as swiping down from the top isn’t as easy.

The reader that just works. Got the right set of features and is only a few MB large.

Love the app, have been using it for years. However, a recent update (accidentally?) removed the "collapse root" feature from the context menu. Pretty please bring that small affordance back.

Title says it all
Unreliable
It’s good when it works. But it keeps saying “no connection” and won’t load stories or comments. The dev has attempted fixes, but the problem remains. I hope it gets fixed cos I like it when it works.

Excellent overall, but search needs work
The UI is well designed, intuitive, attractive. It’s my preferred way to read HN. But I use the search a lot, and it’s very primitive. I typically have to switch to my desktop’s browser to find anything. The number one thing missing is a date filter. Preferably that allows selecting start/end dates, but even just a dropdown with common ranges would suffice. HN has a lot of content about topics that move quickly, so I often want to see results from the last X time period. But sort by date, and only see bad submissions that never got traction. Sort by relevance and see popular submissions from 12 years ago. And a hard cap on number of results, so I can’t dig deeper even if I wanted to. It leaves much to be desired.
Why check for devices on my network?
I was very happy with the app until today, when I was asked to grant permission for octal to look for devices on my local network. There’s no reason for it other than to build a user profile as far as I can think of. That fishy.
X-Callback-URL not working
With the latest update, the Opener app can only invoke this app but not able to redirect to the post anymore
Easily the best HN app
One of my most used apps daily because I’m addicted to HN. This is a well implemented version of it, worth the few dollars for the upgrade.
Great app but major bug added
Since last update, I get logged out every time I close the app. Please fix.
Pretty good
The app works pretty well on both iphone and ipad, far better than the hacked news website. It's often pretty responsive, though sometimes there are delays when refreshing the home page or loading an article's comments.
Ads
This app has very intrusive ads. The website has none.
Favorites are broken
Favorites just don’t show up. Favorite a post and it never shows in the account > favorites section of the app. Pretty solid app otherwise. Wouldn’t mind seeing some markdown highlighting for comments. A way to select text when you have tap anywhere to collapse comment enabled.
Best in class, with room to grow
Been using it since launch, and the app has only gotten better, clean design, fast performance… It doesn’t do everything perfectly, and there’s room to grow, but it’s actively maintained and hits all the marks that matter. Four stars because there’s still upside… five will come.
Paid for premium - Restore purchase not working
I paid for the app before, but now when I do restore purchases, it just is asking me to pay again, which makes no sense. Can you please look into it? Thank you.
Looks good but missing some basics
First impression it’s a much cleaner UI than the archaic HN website. However, there’s a couple of important and basic features in the web interface that are missing here: (1) dead/buried comments (those downvoted to zero or less) are not indicated, whereas the web interface fades them out (2) there’s no way to search inside a thread, something that’s easily done in the browser via ctrl-f.
I really like the app
But I really don’t like the recent change that FavIcons are not visible in "Stories: Compact". I constantly can’t post a comment.

I can’t work out how to collapse comment threads, which is the main reason I’d want to use an app over the website. Besides that, works fine.

Great client
Almost the perfect client. All it needs imo is the ability to browse your history (specifically, the comment section of a story you’ve previously opened). There is no way to view a list of stories you’ve upvoted. The only way to store items is through the favorites button, but sometimes you forget to favorite something and want to view it later.

Missing a way to collapse/expand the sidebar on iPad in portrait or landscape without going into Octal settings and turning off Split View entirely.

Good app with refresh issues
This app is very well made with one issue: when refreshing the feed, the refresh indicator stops immediately, but the feed itself doesn’t refresh until seconds later. The indicator should be active during the full refresh time.
Best HN App?
I like (and use) it a lot. Just tipped you to say thanks for the good work Edit: Upvoting fails very often. Refreshing comments does not load new comments you have to go back and select the article again
$10 to unlock basic functionality is a bit steep
The app looks ok, seems to function well other than being quite slow to load comments compared to other apps, but $10 to unlock basic functionality seems a bit expensive.

MAKE THE COMMENT HIT TARGET LARGER PLEASE
Overall, as an aggregator - this is a solid app. There is one problem which drives me absolutely crazy: in order to read the comments, which is half the value of HN - hitting the comment button below the article title, you must touch this impossibly tiny hit-box which takes you 4-5 presses and eye-squints to get right. The other 85% of the time you end up opening the article again on your native browser. It's infuriating.
very good, a few minor annoyances
app is very responsive and designed well. only a couple minor issues with it 1. occasionally you get a “something went wrong” message when trying to edit or vote, and it would be nice to have a better understanding of what exactly the issue was 2. you can swipe back but can’t swipe forward! sometimes i accidentally swipe out of an article or comments and there is no way to instantly return to the view i was just on, meaning sometimes you have to re-find the article in the list and scroll through all the comments you’ve already read. please implement a swipe forward/return to last view!
Good app but…
Good app. However, comment jump was a previously free feature and after update is turned off by default and behind a paywall (and this paywall change isn’t disclosed in the update notes). I don’t support this practice so giving lower rating.
You cant reply without paying
Recently the reply Feature was moved to premium only. Before that, replying was available to free users too.
Used to be better
I often find the app doesn’t refresh on the main page, or won’t load certain pages after some time. I have to close the app and search for the post again.
Commenting and voting broken
Even after paying for premium, voting and commenting just produces an error.

Clean and on-spot, but buggy
The app itself has a clean look, is easy to use and basically does what you expect it to do. I’d like to upgrade to the pro version, but when I reopen the app, it shows top posts from first installation and refreshing does not help. I need to switch tabs, switch back and than refresh.

Terrible money grab
Good app, now horrible site
The app is good, if a little obtuse in how it handles comment collapsing. Unfortunately the site the app builds itself around is no longer a bastion of intelligent commentary and discussion, and has devolved into politics and feigned intellectualism. The internet, like TV, has now become simply mindless entertainment for the masses.
