Best alternative to Podcast Addict
Recently switched to iPhone and was bummed I’d miss out on podcast addict, it this is a great alternative! Missing some key features like auto adding new episodes from chosen podcasts to your playlist, but overall happy with premium!

Absolutely love listening to Casefiles. Only complaint is every once in a while the voice becomes distorted and I have to close the app and open it back up to make the voice normal again.
This app keeps getting worse and worse 😞
I’ve tried so hard to give this app chances to improve. I’ve been a user for almost 4 years, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. It doesn’t bother me that there are so many bugs, or that it doesn’t work consistently. What bothers me is that I see regular releases of new features when the core functionality of the app is incredibly unstable. Things as simple as playing back podcast from the last session don’t work. The UI for pop-ups literally obscured the buttons that you’re trying to use just to tell you that the app is switching to “nighttime mode.” This would be like your car stopping in the middle of the highway in order to tell you that it is turning on the air conditioning. 🤦🏾♂️ I have really tried. I have been a paid member, I have been a premium member, I have sent feedback, and the app just doesn’t get better. It’s like there’s no prioritization for the core functions of the application. No one needs all the bells and whistles. I just want to listen to podcast. I thought that maybe after the company was acquired, that things would get better, but really, they have just gotten worse…faster. Anyways, hopefully this review will save someone else four years of anger and frustration. Find another app.

I absolutely love this app and I cant believe its actually free!! Every single other podcast app ive tried has been a disappointment but after downloading and using this one for a few days, Im baffled by all the smart features and user-friendly interface! Also, I love how I have the ability to comment on, follow and discuss each individual podcast with other app users without being redirected to some social media site..bravo!!!!

In general, I love this app, but crashes a lot since this most recent update.
I love the app but the support feature doesn’t work.
I’ve been trying to get ahold of Breaker because whenever I go to sort a podcast by oldest it never gives me their first episode. It loads a few episodes in. When I go to send them this support request it doesn’t let me tap on the send button through the app. So here I am, just trying to listen to podcasts from the beginning. I love the rest of the app for the most part. The categorization and the UI are great. But occasionally when I pause an episode and go back to listen to it the player will start it from the beginning. I wish there was a “play next” or “add to queue” option.
CarPlay issues
Seems to have issues while playing on CarPlay. Sometimes it won’t download episodes and/or play episodes.
Great App!
My only suggestions are to make it easier to find those you’ve already listened to (for when you fall asleep 😂), and to save things where you left off even if you listen to another podcast before returning!
Decent App initially, now it’s terrible.
Deleted this app, was decent when I started using it, now it has been glitchy and suddenly I am getting adds every two mins with messages to upgrade. Not worth paying for an app that is no better than Apple’s native app.
Great Way to Organize Your Podcasts
This app has great intuitive UI thats easy to comprehend and learn. Organizing your podcasts into categories is very simple. I have mine organized into categories like backlog, current binge, current listen, things like that which makes keeping track and listening very smooth. It works with CarPlay perfectly as well. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is that sometimes when you have the speed set to 1.5 or 2, the app will create skipping like a scratched CD, so you only hear every other words. And while the plus service advertised sync across platforms, there is no desktop support. So I can’t go from listening on my phone to listening on my laptop. Other than that I really enjoy this app. I’ve used Overcast, Spotify, Apple Pod, Stitcher, Castbox. But their organization feature just don’t compare to Breaker.
So so and buggy
App is just so so. The UI unfortunately retains most of the unnecessary complexity that plagues most podcast apps. It offers nothing more than free Spotify, which syncs podcasts between multiple devices, a minimum requirement that you must pay for here. The search is fair, not as good as most. The app is also buggy. On the iPad, Breaker gets “lost” sometimes, starts playing different podcasts instead of resuming the existing podcast as requested, then cannot move the podcast forward or backward using either the icons or the slider. You have to kill the app then reopen it to resume normal operation. I recommend that you keep on looking.
Closest approximation to the original
*update* I had to drop a star and stop using the app for two reasons - the lost progress bug was getting worse and if you leave the app and come back to it, the UI shifts around and the options on the bottom of the screen cannot be selected. It is still better in theory that many other apps. /update I feel bad for those who never experienced the original Apple Podcast app in its glory. Breaker is a close approximation, but the bugs are frustrating. The lost progress/looping previously reported in other reviews still exists, and there haven’t been any updates to the app in quite a while. Even with these sorts of bugs, it’s still better than most podcast apps on iOS or android.
Best app on App store
I have tried almost all apps on app store and found breaker as the best podcast app with containing almost all podcast around the world. I love how it saves space in my iPhone it is 27mb evn after subscribing about 500 shows . I love breaker😍😍. Thank you .
Company loses my listen data twice
I’m a heavy listener. I listened to 18 days worth of podcasts in 2022 (432hrs) - all that history gone! All my likes gone. Disappointed
Search has a horribly low number of results
When I search for martech for example it comes back with one result about biscuits? There’s literally a podcast called martech and it’s not coming up. Can you fix? Lovely app though.
Social aspects gone in latest update
I have used several podcast apps over the years. Apple, Spotify, google podcasts, etc. I switched to breaker because it offered something none of the other 17 million podcast apps offered - a social experience. I could see how many other people liked an episode, which of my friends liked it, and participate in a shared comment on the episode. Neat! Well, after the latest update it seems they got rid of the social aspects entirely. Now it’s just another podcast app competing without a real differentiator. Why bother dealing with the rough edges now? I’ll be switching back to one of the big boys.
Good selection but has playback issues
Sometimes the track I’m playing will rewind back to the beginning whenever I unpause. This is problematic with episodes that are 2 or more hours long and trying to find where I stopped is frustrating.

Very Good
I like the way the queue is arranged, I can see the order they’re in, etc. I also love that it doesn’t automatically play anything if I don’t want it to. However, when resuming a paused a podcast the episode often starts playing at the beginning rather than at the point the episode was paused. 4 of 5.
New update is slick but confusing and plays randomly
The new update looks great but adds too much functionality and you also lose your old usage data, which is ironic because it wants you to share your usage as social proof. I also lost all my lists and now have to recreate them. Another annoying part of the new design is that the list doesn’t remove episodes you’ve listened to, creating a giant list for you to figure out what you want to listen to. It seems like the update was trying to do too much.
Lots of bugs
It has content but it’s not enough to make me go back to just Apple Podcast. What ever the “now playing” feature is just works really poor and it seems like a broken UI. It’s been 6 months since an update so I don’t think this app you are looking for.

Turns out it’s a scam
I paid for this app and got scammed. I have been locked out of my account for months on end. Reaching out to support gets no response. They “updated” the app to require you to reset your password to access your account again, but the link they email you is broken. Don’t bother paying for this app. It’s apparently just a money grab. Previous review: Social podcast app? No thank you. I don’t want to talk about my podcasts or share them with my friends. I don’t care what anyone else is listening to and I don’t care about discovering or searching for new podcasts. I have several custom RSS feeds for ad free podcasts that I pay for via Patreon. I want to import them to an app via URL, listen to them, AND SAVE THE BEST EPISODES TO A PLAYLIST TO SAVE FOREVER SO I CAN RELISTEN TO THEM EASILY. I have tried a dozen podcast apps and searched high and low on Google. I finally found this app through a Medium article and I want to cry. It actually works. Import via RSS works. Listening works. Adding my favorite episodes to the favorites playlist works, and I can customize the settings to keep the episodes from being deleted on listen. Finally. I have not been able to find a single other app on the internet that does this and it’s literally the only feature I wanted. And I didn’t even have to fork over cash to try the app. Well done. I will be subscribing to get more playlists now that I know this app does what I need.
Not the best out there
The only reason I am still using this up is the variety of speeds to play compare to other apps. On the other hand the app is constantly eating data even if I download the episodes on Wi-Fi. The already downloaded episodes constantly start downloading again, regardless of where I stoped listening the app is starting them from the begging, so I need to reload the app again in order to fix the problem-very annoying and unnecessary even dangerous when driving !
Ruined
The newest update looks nicer, but they completely got rid of all of the social aspects of Breaker, which was originally the WHOLE appeal of it before it got bought out. Now the new company has literally turned it into a re-skin of their other podcast app, Player FM. Very disappointing to see.
Landscape mode not working
Landscape mode not working after recent re-install on latest Ios. Otherwise great app. Please fix landscape mode.
Keeps redownloading
It keeps re-downloading podcasts even though I delete them off the app. Pretty annoying. Gets slow after you subscribe to >15 shows.
Constantly crashes
They also host white supremacist content.
Needs iPad optimization
This is a really neat app and I use it on my iPhone all the time but typically use my iPad while I’m working because I need to use my phone. I was happy that the app works on the iPad but it isn’t optimized for it. Would give 5 stars if that was fixed!
Fine unless you use CarPlay
Never had an app that’s glitchier when it comes to Apple CarPlay. Randomly stops playing. Freezes so you can’t do anything without killing the app and starting over.
Meh
Years ago I used a podcast player that totally nuked their functionality overnight so I started using breaker. I figured that the social media aspect was good and in a few years they’d sort out its many issues. Just now, after an advertisement to buy a paid version of this app I has to watch a new podcast download on my phone for three minutes because if you navigate away Breaker stops downloading. I’ve spent hours of my life watching podcasts download on breaker. Their emails keep suggesting I listen to a podcast for redpilled black men (I actually checked it out, but not for me). More like heartBreaker. Amirite?

about a week ago, after using this app regularly for a year, it became impossible to actually listen to a podcast. playback error for every show. very nice

Search is totally broken
Search is totally broken. Since great search was the main reason to use this player in the first place, this is a problem. Please fix.
2 main bad things
I like the social aspect, i line that i can sorry podcasts from oldest to newest, i like the wide selection of shows. What i don’t like is how the app drains battery like crazy and how it just stops playing right before an episode ends.
Like the organization features but battery overheats
I really like this app in the way it is easy to organize your play list and remove or skip episodes you don’t want to list to but I find it really overheats my battery far more than any other app.
Unstable and frustrating
This app will frequently start a podcast over at the beginning instead of picking up where I left off, and it seems to have problems when I skip ahead through ads or try to skip back to repeat something—it has skipped around and had playback problems several minutes after I used the skip function. I’m using an iPhone 12 with 256 GB of memory and the latest iOS, and it’s the only app running.
Discovery is killer feature!
Just started using this app and may already be a convert. Long time user of pocket casts, (which still has a fantastic playback UI) I think that new episode discovery is a feature I’ve never realized I needed so badly until now. I’m not so much a ‘social’ fan (I don’t feel the need to comment on a podcast, and even recently deleted Facebook) but the ability to see which podcasts are popular/trending from within the app is really helping me find new shows and episodes outside of my usual comfort zone of podcasts.
Didn’t Live Up to the Hype
The text is too small for me to read easily. Otherwise buggy enough to be frustrating. App would frequently enough get confused and replay an episode just completed while showing data for the next episode in the queue. The only fix was to kill the app and start fresh, very annoying in the car.
Fix/Add Auto Delete Old
Great app, good enough to complete with the native podcast app. But this thing will not automatically delete old podcast once it begins to reach the cap limit for the app. Now it is unusable, when opening it just freezes and become unresponsive. Please fix!🙏🏿
I love Breaker
I love the ability to comment and see what other people I follow are listening to. The listening history is super handy. Dark mode and the ghosts are delightful. The new support for multiple playlists and sharing is great. The support is awesome too!
Update ruined the app
I’m going to delete the app. I used it regularly and loved the interface. They deleted all my history, meaning I have to manually go through and mark each episode listened. Can you imagine a podcast with 300 episodes, and I have no idea which I heard? There is no way to export my information. I reached out, and they have not done anything to help at all. It’s a canned statement about needing room on their servers. Also, there is an upgrade button when listening that seems to purposely be located in a spot you’d accidentally hit it. I listen while I drive, and I imagine this would be an issue. Best features are gone and behind the pay service. I’m switching apps and deleting.
Great potential
I love the app, and I see the potential for the social features even if I don’t use them that much. It is a bit glitchy at times though, though almost all of the problems I’ve had are solved but killing the app and restarting it.
I want to love it
I love the idea of this podcast but it’s very buggy. Esp the part where i can see what my fiends are listening to. Skips backwards in a podcast at will, and if I stop listening to a podcast ep, then come back to it later, it doesn’t hold my place.
Wanted to like this app.
Likes: Social aspect App rarely breaks Dislikes: The home screen is too busy, since many podcasts change icons from week to week and have poorly designed icons to boot. I suggest the home page focus should be on what podcast users want most, which for me is better access to my subscriptions first, then if I’m searching for new material I’m open to looking at the currently-overly-noisy home page to suggest other options to me. No CarPlay support... The recommendations should only be implemented if the suggestions algorithm is good, and I think it’s not great in its current state. I’ve listened to a few recommendations but haven’t added a new subscription from them yet. Maybe sponsor a Kaggle competition to develop a better one? Ala Netflix. Also, a decision rationale description may yield more clicks, like, “recommended because you liked...”. Right now I don’t want your recommendations. Anyways, switching back to Castro for now, but will check back in hopes that the app improves over time since I think it has potential.
