FishingBC
Still learning the new app, but what I have seen so far looks and operates great
WARNING
The app is not monitoring closures/openings correctly, especially when it comes to shellfish. following the apps open/closure information and catch limits can result in SEVERE fines, seizure of property (your boat) and fishing prohibition if you run into an officer, as they don’t care at all if you’re using the app, even though it’s supposedly made in collaboration with the DFO using their data.
Wouldn’t fish without it!
A great, easy to use resource, with a slight grain of salt. Species ID could be better organized. Closures and restricted areas are still a bit tricky to navigate.
Good idea but confusing. Worthless as constructed
Looking at regulations. Crab sizes? Limits? Shellfish biotoxin report has multiple conflicts. Developers may want to talk with fishermen.
Cell Coverage
It is ok to use when there is cell phone data coverage. It then needs to be filled out on the salt water, not the best place for electronic devices.
Very handy
The regs are so complex that an app like this helps a lot.
Unable to Register Account
Tried to create an an account multiple times but wont get any email to verify your account creation.
Add freshwater licence!!!! Please
Wish it could hold freshwater license too. Why wouldn’t it? Right? Like, I feel like I’m taking CRAZY pills…
Good tool
Get rid of the pop up salmon facts please.
Awesome
This app is awesome. It is user friendly. You will enjoy discovering it.
Regs
The regs are inaccurate in the app. Don’t trust it.
Enjoying the app, but a few suggestions
I’m really liking this fishing bc app for its species id, regulations by area (although some are incomplete ie max size for halibut is not listed as far as I found) and easy catch log. I do have a feeling some fisherman are gun shy about using it since it publicly displays which areas are most productive at any one time in the catch log portal. I feel like that’s an unnecessary addition that will scare off the majority of Cagey fisherman from using the app and deprive dfo of potentially useful data. Hopefully removing that is considered for a future update otherwise great first month with the app.
Great app
Useful, handy and easy to use
Confusing app
App is hard to understand and confusing, regulations are hard to understand and chopped up, little info here and little info there. If you want people to fish responsibly make it easier to understand
Well Executed
Solid app allowing up to date regulation changes. Love the map feature that provides your GPS position relative to management areas! Only suggest would be the ability to more easily toggle back and forth between sub-area specific regulations and the map, then back again. Also, it’d be great if the map could remember your previous settings or allow you to set default layers instead of having to turn them on each time you visit the map page. Overall, fantastic!!
Good App
Easy to use
Wrong Regis
Regis for area 14 do not match do website ????
Convenient
Nice to have all the information in one place and not have to use the glitchy DFO maps. However it’s a bit annoying to have to keep deleting and redownloading it due to corrupted data. If they fix that glitch it’s 5/5
Wow!
Best app I've come across in years. These guys rock! All the stuff any fisher wants and it's at your fingertips. Amazing! Well done!!!
Pretty good
At first I couldn’t get my fishing license account to link but after I changed my password it worked. I tried using the species id with the camera and it told me all the salmon were chinook.
Great app
Please remove the pop up tips.
Perfect app for tidal water fishing
FishingBC makes it super easy to manage your tidal water fishing license and catches. It has everything I’m looking for in saltwater fishing but would really like to see freshwater licenses get integrated into the app. There is no convenient app for managing my freshwater license and tracking catches on it as of now.
Very informative
I use the app constantly while fishing. Great to see updated regs, fish identification and catch log. Great job.
Fishing app review
Mostly the app is very good. However, the maps are terrible. It is very difficult to discern the boundaries of RCAs and other features. You can’t even begin to zoom in enough for them to be useful. Why not put some more detailed and useful maps on the system?
Excellent
Great app. Makes reading and understanding the regulations much easier.
Well done app
It has a lot of good information, well presented and options for saving catches including saving your current fishing licence. But, sometimes, when you click on the link to access the ability to have AI identify your catch via your phones camera, it’s a dead link. Maybe it will be fixed in a future update, but all in all, this is a good app.
One shop stop
Everything , regulation, weather conditions, tide charts, etc
Closers and opens
I believe if you had a map for prawn openings green open red closed it would make it much easier to decipher
