Expand Apple Home’s Capabilities
This app is a great extension of Apple Home’s capabilities. It has allowed me to create more complex Automations with multiple conditions not possible just using the Apple Home app. The backup feature is also nice to have, especially if you have spent a lot of time customizing your setup. The recent addition of Workflows really ups the capabilities even further. I use an old iPad to run Workflows I have created using this app. What I like about the Workflows is that they run on the dedicated iPad, taking some load off of the Apple Home hub. The workflows allow If/then/else conditions, loops, and even more capabilities. All of these additional capabilities would not be valuable if the Workflows didn’t run reliably. But they do run reliably on my dedicated iPad! I have been using this app for years now and highly recommend it. It is the next logical step forward from the Apple Home app as your home’s setup expands. It doesn’t replace the Apple Home app, it complements it.
Can’t exit without starting a subscription
Sometimes you find an app that is uniquely annoying. Opaque pricing requires you to install the app to find out how much it costs. And then the developer blocks quitting the app until you agree to a 7 day trial. Had to kill -9 the thing to get it to close so it could be uninstalled.

I generally tend not to review apps, the only reason I read this one so low is because it gave me a notification to give a review every 10 seconds every time I clicked on something annoying as heck
Found Another!
I like many brought lifetime licence and now new features no access! Feel ripped off if honest and like others, I’d pay a little to bump up lifetime licence but no option! Prefer Apple Home visuals now and have dumped this app…..shame …. Greed is short term guys.
Quitting on start-up
It’s a great app but the last couple of versions do not load on any of my devices and quit right at start-up. This happens on my iPhone16 Pro Max, My iPad M2 and my Mac Studio M2, all of which are running the latest OS’s respectively.
This App is MUST HAVE for Apple Home Users
Almost everything that Apple left out is in Controller for HomeKit. This is a serious app that is very easy to use along sideApple Home. Track down issues, logs, WAY, WAY better automation control in Workflows, in app states, great support … the list goes on. No Apple Home user should go without this app. P.S. not to be stereotypical about our Controller for HomeKit developers, but this app drips with solid German engineering.
Paywall prevents app closure
Can’t even close the app because their macOS paywall has no close button; ridiculous this passed the review process by apple or the developer. Wasted 90 seconds of my life having to open activity monitor to force close the app since they couldn’t be bothered to test what they ship.

feature request
Would be a good idea for a function to convert scenes into direct accessories setting if possible. this given the maximum of 100 scenes restriction in HomeKit. Also an option of finding not used scenes with option to delete them. BTW, the website does not have any reference to support requests

Best app to help with Apple HomeKit automations scenes and workflows could not be happier. Is a game changer simply amazing.
NOT FREE!!!
You can’t do anything without signing up for payment, Apple should really let you now that before you download. What’s worse, is after you first open the app, you can not normally quoting without agreeing to pay, you end up having to force quit the application. Major FAIL!!!!!

Predatory behavior
I launched the app for the first time and was greeted by a graveyard of ads. No escape possible apart from force quitting the app. That is predatory behavior.
Good but tread careful
I didn’t purchase this for the hub mode, purely for exposing addition conditions to the Apple Home app. A Black Friday lifetime deal softened the blow. This function has been invaluable to creating more robust and functional automations. However, as seen with other reviews, the hub mode has been moved behind a paywall, which with many other companies is launched as BETA so they are not forced to give pricing details upfront or if there will be any additional cost at all. Unfortunately lifetime licenses are also seen as the lifetime of the software with nothing stopping the developer killing off the app and developing something similar under a different name requiring more payments. I am not suggesting this is the practice or experience of this developer but more of a thought before spending your hard earned money. There are single purchase automation hubs available which can give you a similar experience without ongoing subscription costs. My score reflects my use case but I also stand with my fellow users that the change in pricing does not sit well.
Update 9.0.1 messes up camera sorting
I updated to 9.0.1 and it has broken the ability to sort my camera order. I am able to sort them but when I click done the settings do nothing to the order of my cameras. Worked great before the update.
SPAM marketing notifications
Recently, I got a pop-up notification with spam marketing from their app. I’ve reached out multiple times to their support team asking how this can be disabled with zero response. I regret spending money on this app.
Has become incredibly slow in iOS 16.2
Great app but in iOS 16.2 building a scene or automation is incredibly slow. As an example I click on an accessory to become active in my automation and I have to wait 10 seconds for the app to respond. No such issues in the apple home app. Can anyone explain? Looking to cancel my subscription as it’s become unusable.
Go in with eyes open !
The subscription plan is somewhat dubious. To make this work properly I found needed to use a hub (an AppleTV). That meant I had to pay a subscription, which seemed fair enough and I duly subscribed. A few months later that functionality has suddenly been removed from the subscription I paid for and in order to get it back I would have to pay for the next one up - at three times the price (a hefty £70 a year). Worse - when I tried to email Acas software to ask what was happening I got an automated reply saying they were too busy to answer individual emails and I read pointing me to a ‘course’ (which I didn’t need). The combination of dubious subscription practice and poor-I might say absent-customer service has made me very wary of this developer. It has certainly led me to cancel my subscription and post this poor review.

I keep getting push notification advertisements from them. No way to disable that I can tell.

Disappointed with 8
Version 8 now buts the Hub feature behind a new subscription making me feel like my Lifetime payment was money wasted. Lifetime is now ‘Essentials’ 😕. This app has some useful features (e.g. backups) but it feels overpriced now.
Rotten customer service
I’ve been using this app for a number of years. It gives access to more than Apple Home does. The hub mode works great. However, when things go wrong, or in my case, tells me that duplicate accessory names need to be renamed, and it can’t fix them with a “Operation is not supported” error, and support totally ignore you, I’m fine with them. No support link on their site. The don’t reply. Useless.
Excellent
The backup and restore functionality is indispensable. I just had to remove and re-pair some devices with a dozen scenes each, and this app made that a cinch.
Update deleted all Apple Watch scenes
Just when the button order by was fixed, a different update has now deleted all of the Apple Watch scenes.
Versie 5.12
Jammer, het was zo makkelijk, nu (met versie 5.12) zijn de filters verdwenen, toch maar op zoek naar een alternatief… In reaction to the answer: OK! I didn’t understand the new features. It’s still the great app it was before 5.12. I’m changing my review, 4 stars!
Very disappointed by 8.0
I’m a lifetime user. I had features available yesterday, that I paid for, that now requires a subscription. This is greedy, borderline illegal I think. Will I ask for a refund? No, I use the app for my automations. Am I disappointed by this direction? Definitely. Please give the Hub Mode back to the users that PAID for it. I don’t care about those graphics. I do care about where my money goes and what I paid for. A furniture store won’t remove one of the 4 legs of the table I purchased over there a year ago, even if the table is still considered functional.
Was great but getting worse
This app was fenomenal, it wasn’t pretty, ux was bad but it give you access raw access to everything homekit, however it seems they’re trying to make it pretty now and with that a lot of decisions that are just making it a chore to use, for example before you could just swipe to delete a condition on an automation, now you have to open the condition, scroll and then delete, renaming was as simple as tapping the name of the automation and type a new one, now it’s an option under a drop-down, the whole automation screen was so easy to read and compact, now has become larger with a AND label and a Plus sign, not even sure what’s going on here, on scene it was so simple to see if the current values match what’s on the scene, now it’s gone, backups was so simple to simply open an automation on a backup and restore the individual conditions, now you can compare but you can’t do that anymore or I can’t find where they put that, the backups UI was never good and instead of improving it we can now scan the the room with LiDAR, its fancy but really doesn’t have much usefulness. Still gonna use it but it’s sadly lost its charm.

Aplicació imprescindible si vols realment tenir domòtica a casa. Permet gestionar automatitzacions, canvis de noms, d’espais… i fer còpies de seguretat!!! Imprescindible com a complement de qualitat a homekit.

Handig, maar ruimte voor verbetering
Handige app, zeker voor de backups. De extra mogelijkheden voor het aanmaken van workflows heeft eigenlijk wat meer uitleg nodig. Een langzame werking van HomeKit werd vermoedelijk veroorzaakt door een raspberry pi waar het werkgeheugen van vol zat
When it works- its the gold standard
Update: Existing widgets work, but new ones fail to be created properly. I cannot choose what they show. It’s very difficult to write this review. Every other update, I seem to have an issue with the camera widgets which are SO important to me, that I can’t deny it’s frustrating. When the update is good however, the app is a dream and really is the gold standard of HomeKit setup apps.

Oh My Goodness
I have used this app for some time now, and just began paying of the highest subscription (yearly haha) and Jesus Christ I am so impressed! The “Workflow” function and all of its capabilities have made me rethink even switching to Home Assistant. Anything I want to do this can and it can do it super easily!
latches into your MacOS and refuses to let go!
As soon as I realized this was subscriptionware I attempted to remove it, but it’s TENACIOUSLY latched itself into my MacOS and will not let go! There is no REMOVE APP button either. This is criminal behavior in the Apple Modus Operandi.
Not 5-Star Material Yet...
This is back to 4-star for me, since the Bugs were fixed. However... Issues (Post-v5): — Smart Folders are rather useless, given the limited filters. Normally, a “filter” would be something like, “Power State: On (or Off); but, here it’s simply, “Power State;” and merely displays the Power State, whether On or Off. That’s not a filter; that’s a display column. Issues (Pre-v5): — Ability to show Accessory Groups in favour of Individuals. (With further ability to “drill down” into the group’s acc.) This is a MUST, as iOS already does this; and people set them up specifically to consider certain accessories as one accessory. Using this app undoes this. — Ability to set default Backup location, eg. iCloud. (I mean, I paid for this. Most paid apps tout this as a feature) — Tutorial for Workflows. (Even just adding a mock workflow to help us understand) — Utilize iPad real estate more effectively. (Currently, a huge waste of potential) Again, I do love the app; but, beyond the Backup/Restore/Logs, iOS still does a better job in terms of management. This begs the question of why the App attempts to replace the Home App if you’re not willing to replicate, and add on top of it’s feature set. Especially when little is done to show us the use-cases/benefits of said additions. At this point, it’s a definite 5-stars, if you either; do something about the other issues; or perhaps, just focus on the Backup/Restore/Logs; and, forget about the rest. Keep at it!
Locked out of free, and too expensive
I used one single feature of the free version (toggle a switch that’s not available in Apple Home app for some cameras) and had no need for any of the Pro features. Now that the developer has decided to lock the app behind a subscription, the only way way to get back in and toggle that switch back on is to subscribe for $39.95?? Poor form.
Great app – doesn’t seem to have a free version anymore?
I’m opening up the app and it’s telling me to subscribe to use it. It’s a shame because the free version is very good, and I was weighing up getting a licence, but it is a little over budget.

Disappointed long-time user
I used to really like this app, and I enjoyed watching it develop new features over time. I’m a lifetime subscription holder to the Controller Essentials because I wanted to support the developers, but to start… that’s truly an awful name. If you want people to pay a lot of money for access to “Essentials”, your branding needs help. I’m fine with the app not being free, so the free functionality being limited isn’t a problem, but you should at least brand your lower tier paid subscription as “Pro” or something. Then the double paywall “Plus” pricing tier could be “Pro+” or something. Anyway, that’s not important, but to me, it shows that the developers are out-of-touch with their customer base. I don’t think the kinds of people who want to pay for a highly technical app would want to pay through the nose to get access to simply the “Essential” features. What I’m more disappointed about is the double paywall itself. This new Plus tier that has gated trivial features and some admittedly compelling features behind an extremely steep annual subscription. The only ongoing cost for the developers is the weather API, which has a cost is extremely reasonable and nowhere near $40/year, and maybe some extremely affordable, scalable server infrastructure for the URL workflow triggers, again costing nowhere near $40/year. Everything else happens locally, on *my* personal devices. This is exactly the kind of subscription based software nonsense that I can’t justify, similar to Office365 and the like. The difference, of course, is that truly professional apps have the ability to back businesses into a corner and get the subscription added to the cost of business calculation, and if it pencils out, the subscription is justified. This is not a truly professional app. It’s for people’s homes. It cannot be justified, so I can’t subscribe. Anyway, I’m looking into HomeAssistant now, after years of resisting. I’m constantly running into limitations both from Apple’s Home app and third parties like this app, so it’s time for me to switch.

I can’t see a ‘contact us’ on webpage so thought I’d ask here. Does this app have a delay option. Eg. Only active after a set period of time.

Backup option is good; but far too expensive. Would be willing to pay say $10 lifetime for that function alone. Rest of app is nothing special

So great SW but the Mac app has not been able to launch for months now... the phone app still works but the main attraction is to be able to use this on both platforms.....

Stay away from this app
Like many others I purchased a “Lifetime” license and enjoyed this program. Now they are no longer honoring their previous commitment and want additional fees to access features that were previously included. All I can say at this point is Thank You for pushing me deeper into Home Assistant as that offers better control than this app ever did
User interface
If you scroll through the timer settings to reach the bottom of the screen, you can accidently change the timer wheels.
Restore does NOT work when you need it!
Got the dreaded 'loading accessories and scenes' page, for which there is no work around apart from reset. Fortunately, I thought, I had bought the Pro version of this app when HomeKit was working and thought a reset would not be devastating. However, Restore from backup shows 'No accessory assigned yet' for each device, but clicking on the pane does not lead to page where you can link to the correct device - the page is dead end for options to select. The developers web site does not have a support page. There is no information on how to make this work, assuming I am doing something wrong. So now I have to redo the homes.. so more than a few hours work as one is remote. Response from developer "After a HomeKit reset all you physical accessories are disconnected. The backup contains your setup, but cannot reconnect your accessories automatically. The HomeKit codes are essential to HomeKits security concept. You can use the + button within that assignment view or the one at the main accessories view, to add them back. Of course you need to be at the location therefore." This may be helpful in the situation that you are physically in the home location, and could save some time if you have all the codes(ie. as in HomePass which I did). Maybe I am missing something but it does not help if you are trying to recreate a remote home location - which I was trying to do. Perhaps I was expecting too much, as this app has limited functionality in a situation like mine.
No Temperature support
Whilst the app works well and gives better automations, I was left frustrated by my temperature automations (when temp drops below 21.5) were just shown as some strange unsupported condition. As I downloaded this to troubleshoot this, the app is unfortunately not useful to me despite it looking well written.
