What people like
- Lights look amazing and cool
- Works well with Apple Home
- Lots of fun color scenes
What they complain about
- Keeps losing connection to devices
- App crashes and is glitchy
- Interface is confusing and bad
- Support team is useless
We love our Nanoleaf system!
We installed all the lights ourselves over a year ago and enjoy changing the color patterns each month. The Nanoleaf community has created thousands of color combinations oand we have the option of creating our own. Everything about Nanoleaf has been super and user friendly!!
Just Keeps Getting Worse
I have several A12 bulbs. Each update just gets dramatically worse and less reliable. Neither this app nor Apple Home even recognize a couple of my bulbs anymore. Even worse, now when Adaptive Mode turns on, my bulbs have a horrific green tint to them. I am always having to manually adjust the color. Gone are the days of no-fuss automatic lighting or just being able to turn on a switch. Every time I turn on the lights I have to spend 5 minutes fiddling with an app. What a nightmare when you’re just trying to turn the lights on to see what you’re doing for something urgent. The fact that the apps have stopped communicating with some of my bulbs is simply unacceptable. It’s not convenient to have to bring the ladder in the house to delete and re-pair bulbs all the time. You pay a premium for a Nanoleaf product, which is supposed to be a great brand in this space, only to receive a sub-par user experience.
Quite useful missing a few options.
Have two floor lamp now. I had to move one lost the connection. Had delete and setup again. Should be able to restore a connection. Does this mean if lose power have to redo? I have one on a 800W UPS. Bummer the other near my 1600W AV UPS. However it only an hour though just play at 0.5% max volume. Is my miniLED 8K TV power hog. Also Wish I could save an AI generated color. Am watching Lollapalooza 2026 so used word Lollapalooza is cool color pattern
Why can’t we create scenes anymore?
Why was the Seanne creator button removed?
Poor Connection
App is not connecting to the device that well. It will error out when restarting the app. Also looses connection when trying to change colors. When on a color setting it will change to soft white. On a low brightness setting but on the app shows its full brightness. Not synced at all. Please fix!
KHIEM KHAC LE
I LOVE THE DESIGN.
Terrible
I bought this for almost 100 dollars and it’s just a waste of money.
Bugs
Having issues staying connected
Good Product but the App is Horrendous
Product is great, lights are bright and work well with HomePod. Setup is smooth and relatively easy and fast. However the general experience of using the app is so bad I have taken off 3 stars for it. I wish I never had to open it. The tools to make it better are so accessible now, even a generic ai app would most likely be a significant improvement. The layout is not intuitive, the way information is presented is unhelpful, the way settings are accessed and changed is just infuriating. I came from having Phillips hue bulbs and these work much better with the Apple ecosystem, but the Phillips hue app (while not perfect) is light years ahead. Pleeeeeeease please please hire a designer, or fire your ux designer and find someone who knows what they are doing. You nailed everything else, but unfortunately this is the main interface that users have to deal with daily after initial setup and it suuuuuuuuuuuucks pleeeease fix it
App can’t connect
The lights is great but the problem is you can’t connect to the app properly! You have to delete and reinstall again sooooo many times!! Hopefully they will fix the issue.
Worst ever
Worst ever I’m shocked Apple promotes this on there website. You have to wait in your bedroom a minute for it to establish a connection.. and my router is in the bedroom Netgear.. also have to delete the app every 3 months and reconnect reboot your router.. the pairing is a joke they give you like 5 seconds to establish a pair then you have to screw it in very fast.. the reboot is even more worse.. turn on off 3 seconds red light flashes. The light bulb works 2 years then complete throw out. Not worth buying or investing in.. get a different none app lightbulb these are garbage…
App
The app will not work, spent 89$ on this thing and the app will not allow me to “name my home” very poor quality and not user friendly.
Great smart light system
It took some learning, but once learned this system works well. There are custom light colors per bulb, scenes can be set, and even works well with Apple Home.
Latest update wrecked HomeKit
The last update 12.3.6 wrecked connection to HomeKit. 2 devices updated lost connection and won’t return. My 3rd one didn’t update and it’s fine. These products are just too touchy with HoneKit, not my first issue with these devices.
Latest version doesn’t work for routines
It’s been a good app, but now I can’t even load routines. In a previous update routines were slow. But now it’s kaput. Please fix
Application apple watch
S’est pour quand l’application apple watch ? Merci
What happened?
This app was GREAT! Why all the change in UI? I can’t even figure out how to download scenes… as where the previous UI was super simple. Do the lamps not support custom scenes? Seems like a missed opportunity. Disappointed.
Updating Network - Small Detail
Most people don’t think of very specific things like having an additional network that is only 2.4 GHz but the Nanoleaf devices absolutely require to be on a 2.4 GHz network and don’t do well with mixed mode networks. We had to update our network recently, and I was unable to get these to connect back until I did some further research and ended up having to create a additional network (2.4 GHz only) and then I was able to add it back into the Nanoleaf app as well as into Apple HomeKit. Just be aware of that because it can be very frustrating to figure out if you don’t know. Also, their support team was zero help. It actually took me describing the issue sharing screenshots with an AI agent to get to the bottom of it. I spent months going back-and-forth with their support team with no resolution.
Devices go offline
Really hard to configure, nothing seems to work, devices keep going offline
Works Sometimes
The interface to connect to Apple Home keeps going offline and I have not been able to get it to work with Home Assistant.

4 Years of Misery!
This is one of the worst smart home centered app I have ever used, paired with the absolute worst tech product I have ever owned (Nanoleaf Light Panels). The app is incapable of being consistent, and the product is incapable of doing what it was described. The app is unable to find devices, loses connection with the devices, and seems more focused on selling other horrible products, more than it is focused on making the product you purchased easy to use. I’m confused as to why or how this was an approved application. I encourage anyone reading this to stay away from anything Nanoleaf branded.
Spotty
Sometimes works great but sometimes just doesn’t connect
Out of date
This app, like the products and moreso the company itself, is pathetic and useless. This product line is not worth your money.
Woke up 3 times at night do to nanoleafs turning on
Overall I like them, I had them for 5 years, but every time there is a power outage or an update, they just turn themselves on. Just had a sleepless night after they turned themselves on 3 times
Mise à jour
Interessant et utile
Garbage
Less than garbage! Sucks!! DO NOT PURCHASE!
Nice but
Great feature product, however it does not last long. Controls fail too quickly.
The little app that could
This app and light has so much potential, but it does not seem to improve despite lots of updates that still break sync. I have lost the custom light scenes so many times. The newest feature is the most jarring, though. Suddenly with no provocation whatsoever, a serene light scene will turn into 100% daylight, which is really not the mood when trying to wind down for the evening, and especially for someone who has sensory sensitivities. Having to resync the bulbs so often is also particularly annoying in the light I installed in the stairwell because it’s not an easy bulb for me to access to rescan the QR code to utilize the light, especially when having to do it in the dark. While the lights are technically “compatible” with Apple Home, I don’t recommend doing it because you lose the ability to utilize the scenes, which is honestly the best feature of these bulbs. Please fix these issues. The updates keep making the experience worse. We’d rather not have to replace it.
Looks great, wifi sucks
I love these products. Half my apartment is on these. Unfortunately the wifi connectivity is terrible. It works 60% of the time. And I’ve got one fixture that just does whatever it wants. Turns on in the middle of the night, randomly changes scenes every half hour… often find myself just manually turning things off and on so I don’t start yelling at it
Worth it
My bank acc after buying 📉📉📉
Awful UX
This app is so baffling. It feels like it was designed to make the process as tedious and confusing as possible.
OK but tricky
I found it easy to install thanks to the QR codes printed on the lights. Controlling them is clunky. Sometimes Siri says it cannot find them even though they’re on and then you ask Siri again and magically they respond after doing nothing except repeating exactly the same command. Also there’s sufficient delay after commanding lights on for you to trip over in the dark, so you stand there and wait for it to respond which is extremely annoying.
Doesn’t launch
The app does not launch on iPad. It’s fine on the iPhone but I can’t get it to work on my iPad Pro.
outdoor lights
I don't find the app very user-friendly. I can't figure out how to turn my lights off or set the timer so that they come on at 4 o'clock and turn off at 5 AM.
Great Products which work very well
I have five Nanoleaf lights and they are amazing. I have had no problems setting them up or connecting them to the Nanoleaf app. They also connect with my Hive app and Apple Home, with a couple of taps (and most times automatically) with absolutely no problems at all. All the lights are very controllable and I love them!
Completely unresponsive after last update
No amount of unplugging my Nanoleaf shapes will work. The controller is unresponsive. I cannot reset. I cannot hard. Reset these lights are useless after the last update.
Thumbs up
Does what it says it does and is worth the money 👍
Just randomly disconnects lights
Just a waste really
Barely works with thread and matter
Confusing implementation that does not work properly
Ça refonctionne / it works again
Ça refonctionne de nouveau, merci. It works again :) Sur / on iPad mini 7 iOS 18.1
Dumb lights
They work but it’s not smart lights , intuitive or helpful. Constantly having to re add lights that are installed in hard to reach places to get ambient lighting back
Brilliant products. Awful app
I’m sure that if I had some of the “original” Nanoleaf kit like squares or lines then I’d find the app useful; but it’s a ridiculous pain in the proverbial for managing the Essentials bulbs I have across the house. Seriously can I only update firmware unit by unit via this app via BLUETOOTH???!
Ok but buggy
Lately every time I turn off the light and then later turn it back on it automatically dims to the lowest setting which is not always ideal and is quite annoying. Please fix this as soon as possible. Thank you
Bombarded at first launch
Come on, don't throw every authorisation for Bluetooth, notifications etc at the user upon opening the app. Overwhelming and poor user experience. Progressive disclosure is a much more user friendly experience.
Resync product every 3 months
Tried to run these products as a cheaper alternative or other smart lights. Tried panels, bulbs, and a lamp 100% made by Nanoleaf. Constantly having to delete and re-add my devices. Don’t enter this eco system. Not worth the trouble.
Little issue
I have a Nanoleaf light bulb for my bedroom and what happened was I was on it and it kept saying there was and error with my internet so I fixed my internet but it was still acting up so now I’m like quite confused and upset because this happens quite often
Could be better
It’s a shame because in theory it should be a really cool and easy app to use but unfortunately in my experience I’ve had constant issues where the app doesn’t respond and crashes followed by having to pair device again. Also there is so many cool light variations to choose from but when I pick one and test it that also makes the app crash and the lights don’t physically show. A real shame.
It is ok
I have to say it is an amazing product(the lights) but the app is terrible. it is impossible to navigate and super glitchy and laggy plus confusing
