WorstSmart Home Platform on the planet
It takes ages to add a single light bulb or even a switch IKEA should stick to making beds and stay away from any smart home products Worst experience ever
Funktion efterfrågas
Bra! Men önskar man kunde enkelt tända en lampa i bara 30 min utan att skapa timers själv
PIMA
Works well when it works. Every few months, for no reason, it requires me to reset the whole system. Pain in my… I’m deleting it and just using the hockey puck.
Nightmare
The last update broke the integration with the home app. What's the point of these updates if they break things instead of fixing them?
Så smart
Haft i över 6 år, älskar det varje dag! ♥️
Doesn’t connect
The hub works with another phone but won’t connect via this app.
Enheter i Apple Home svarar inte längre
Efter senaste uppdateringen av IOS till 18.1.1 så svarar inte enheterna längre i Apple Home. Enheterna syns och gateway är synlig. Allt fungerar i Ikea appen. Det har fungerat perfekt i flera år
Unstable system, hard to pair
Expecting stuff to get better with time but not really happening
Bug with blinds
I control 3 blinds with the app. There is a bug. If you slide a single blind to say 50% it also changes the position of the other blinds by a small amount. There is obviously an issue mapping the location of the button sliders in the app.
Great product
I’ve been using the IKEA smart home controller for several years. I’m spoiled! Very easy to add additional lights. And I love being able to control them wirelessly and using my Alexa spot.
Horrible
Ikeas smart suite is overpriced and horribly designed. The app is horrible and the fact the store doesn’t make it clear which smart items work together is ridiculous. You try to buy a light and $120 later you’re still missing some part of the system. I could have bought a cheap light for $10 that had the same features, instead it’s 5 different parts that are each overpriced. light: $10 hub: $40, gateway: $60, power cord: $10, remote: $10 They really nickel and dime you just to shoehorn you into a poorly designed app.
Feedback
Weiter so.
Timers Regression
Setup can be a bit flaky but makes sense once you understand the IKEA way. However, sometime in October 2020 the timer function in this app stopped changing the color/temp for all of my bulbs. They still come on, brighten, and go off as expected on schedule but they’re now stuck on whatever the most recent manual change to cool white, warm white, or warm glow. Calling the Home Smart support line under the "Help” option within the app lead me to a polite conversation with someone who knew less about the products than I did. When she realized that she wouldn’t be able to help me she tried to transfer me to the nearest store location—also unfamiliar with the app or products. This is a technical issue that requires technical support, not outsourced customer service. Edit: Another update, another regression. Still unable to find actual tech support
Difficulties
Quite difficult to find help for difficulties of synching, adding and controlling lamps on multi-lamp fixtures in different rooms.
Nice
Very good app
Buggy
Scheduled lighting rarely works, heck it rarely works period. Plenty of WiFi coverage just buggy. Frustrating to say the least.
Routern hänger sig ofta
Måste starta om routern varje gång man kommer hem ! Finns det en nyare eller uppdaterad version nu ?
Lights work better now but blinds still unreliable
I am pleased to report that many problems with lights have been fixed. Thanks for that! However, there are still some serious bugs with Fyrtur blinds. For instance, when one of my blinds plays up (every few months) and I have to remove and reinstall it (several times, takes about 3 hours) the blind shows up ok in HomeSmart1 Settings and in Updates but then that info is not recognised on the IKEA MyHome page. The blind doesn’t pair with my remote either. Therefore, it cannot be operated at all. I guess the hardware gets worn out but eventually the buttons tend to respond. It is no reason for the software not to operate properly. Please can you look into it? Sadly, neither customer support nor the IKEA shop can deal with such software problems.
Fine when it works
Driving me round the bend trying to reconnect a group of lights that I had to reset after they went out of colour sync. Finds some of the bulbs and then cannot pair with the next (six in total for one remote). Then it pairs without acknowledging it and the rest of the paired lights don’t respond. Going for take six this evening before I lose the will to live. When it works it is super good. But the set up is laborious and buggy to say the least.
Yes so good
Gggggoooooooooooooooodddddddddd
Very bad app
Alot of bugs and dosn’t work well
Ikea smart home.
/Esben
Unreliable and Glitchy
Poorly constructed interface. Works sometimes, not others. Cheap but infuriating.
Stop interfering with my audio
I’d give it 5 stars if it didn’t pause my music and podcasts when it opens. Drives me crazy but works otherwise.
Easy to use, but….
App is easy to use. And to set up. It was a little buggy after the app upgrade. Needed to, First, completely uninstall the app, then unplug the hub, then plug the hub after 15 seconds, then reinstall the app. That seemed to do it after many attempts of troubleshooting.
Loses linked items and touch screen extremely buggy
Why is the touchscreen so buggy? I select one shade and it moves a different one all the time. Pretty ridiculous.
Home smart
Having the app and hub, it’s great to be able to control my lighting and my items plugged into my smart plugs, whilst in range of my Wi-Fi. On the downside, it isn’t controllable when away from home or beyond my Wi-Fi signal.
Cheap does not equal good
When nothing changes in your setup, these cheap ‘smart’ lights work. But heavens forbid you have a power cut, the battery in your dimmer dies or some other normal life event - these things breakdown completely. The app is also a mess - grouping items together where it makes no sense, clunky controls needing you to fo to different pages for different things. Just keep it simple IKEA, no one uses this app to control their setup - Apple/Amazon/Google know how to provide a UX, you don’t.
Lose settings, A lot of opportunites
Still not a reliable system Gateway will NOT connect. Makes the whole system useless. Need a Fix!!!!! Major concept flaw is that timer toggle between on/off.... and that the light settings is lost from time to time, unknown when/what trigger the setting to reset. Some pain to set it up.... very limited information what it does or does not do .... The app can adjust the brightness and temperature of the lights. You can set some timers and you can use the app to turn on or off any bulbs. Neither can set like a sleep timer (tap on the small bulb icon} Feels overall very basic and dated A major flaw is the toggle switch on the remote... while you set timer on individual bulb the remote will turn on the other bulbs and turn off the bulb that was on by timer. It should be that the toggle should be able to get all bulb to the same state aka all on or all off ( now you have unpower the bulbs to get them in sync) We need version 3 now A m
Easy and Cheap
If you are looking for a way to do smart lights on the cheap, the IKEA solution is pretty amazing. It took me a little bit to figure out how to set it all up, but compared to actual IKEA furniture it was pretty much a breeze! The IKEA Smart Home app and lineup of products does pretty much all the stuff you’d expect, although I’d like to see a few things added: (1) I would love a sleep timer that will gradually dim or just shut off the lights after you activate it. Currently, you can only set up the app to turn the lights on/off at fixed times. (2) More full RBG bulbs! IKEA smart bulbs come in two types: adjustable white tones (think warm vs blue light) and fully adjustable color bulbs. The distinction isn’t always clear on the website or products. I would love some full color adjustable bulbs for some of the smaller sizes such as the GU10. I would also love a color adjustable LED smart strip!!! (3) Customizable UI for App: the IKEA App is very clean, but I would like if you could custom size aspects like the limit on the number of scenes you can put on your main dashboard. (4) iOS widget: would love to be able to control my lights right off the Home Screen vs. going into the app. Any or some of these improvements would elevate this to a 5 star product for me. If you’re on the fence about this product, I highly recommend you go for it!
Awful awful awful
I have wasted hours of my time on this. Even bought a new one. Works once and never again!!! I should get my money back. What a mistake to trust ikea!
Good app, but needs an improvement
I was an early adopter of IKEA Trådfri. I got the original smart bulb which has only white color. (Side note: The bulb has lasted 6 years and still won't die so I can replace it with the new bulb with color options. Too well made!) In the beginning, this app was so buggy and it was so hard to connect the app to Apple Home. Over time and many updates, now it's a very steady connection to Apple Home. The controls of the app and its layout are very simple. Nothing terrible and nothing amazing. Just practical and not artistic. However, it needs improvements to be made to the light alarm controls. First and foremost, I wish they put the light alarm controls in a very visible, prominent way. They put it as a tiny timer symbol in the left upper corner. It doesn't even have the word "Timers" or "Alarm", something to let one know what it's for! It's just this vaguely clock-looking symbol lurking in the very corner of the upper left. It's being treated like the red-headed stepchild. IKEA, are you ashamed of this function? You give SO MUCH space and visibility to the light brightness control, color control, and scenes control, but the timer/alarm control? Go stand in the corner! Along with the brightness control, that's the control I use the most, because I bought the smart bulb, gateway and remote control specifically to use it as a light alarm to wake me up every weekday morning. As a deaf person, this system is indispensable for helping me to wake up. I find it really strange that it is treated as though IKEA was ashamed of it and relegates it to a corner. Please give it the same treatment as the other settings. Also, please add an option in the alarm scheduling, for a "vacation mode". I sometimes forget to turn it off manually in the app when I'm on vacation, then I'm awakened by the light when I'm supposed up be able to sleep late because it's vacation. Very sad for me! Please let us input vacation dates so the alarm will be automatically hibernated during those days that are scheduled, until the date the vacation ends.
Okay, but future is dim
The app has been okay. Always clunky, a little hard to navigate for advanced settings, but basics were accessible and it was all excusable for the price of their hardware. But part of investing in a smart home ecosystem, whether IKEA or Phillips, or anyone else, is that you expect that as they add new hardware, you can pair it with your existing setup and manage it all under one app. Unfortunately IKEA decided to start from scratch and release a new app with their new smart hub, and didn’t include support for their old hardware. This makes it harder to have trust in the longevity of one’s investment into IKEAs smart home ecosystem if they sunset support for their old hardware immediately upon release of their new hardware.
Controversial opinion: the system is pretty good
...but the app does leave a lot to be desired. But it works! Mostly! It's just a bit quirky and requires a lot of the legwork to be done by the user, which actually suits me fine.
Great when it works
I have had this for about 2 years and it works and then the App will not connect to the Gateway and it is frustrating as I have to reboot the Tradfrei Gateway. Fix the problems please and make it easier to pair everything. It is frustrating
System is not great
The gateway, bulbs, and remotes are not connecting properly, and they keep disconnecting whenever I unplug them or leave for vacation. I have to reconnect them every time, and it's been happening for five years now, which is exhausting. Until Ikea fixes the issues with their bulbs, I highly recommend Philips smart bulbs.
Finding my IKEA air purifier
Find my IKEA air purifier proved extremely difficult with the IKEA gateway, several attempts but once found it works well, take note I work in IT but the gateway interface needs improvement
Designing an app isn’t Ikea’s Forte. Garbage!
Ikea might make great furniture but they’ve a lot to learn regarding app design. This one is atrocious! Not intuitive, not user friendly and actually doesn’t work much of the time. Moving through it and trying to add fixtures (especially blinds) is like doing a maze blind folded whilst being spun in a vortex! What’s worse it tech support are clueless too! They’ve clearly undertaken ZERO UAT. THANK GOD they use SONOS app for their speakers. Unless you don’t value your sanity, don’t bother with it.
A frustrating experience
App continually crashes while pairing devices. Instructions infuriatingly unhelpful. I am very disappointed in my purchase.
Mediocre
The app works ok, but does not expose anyting for shortcuts and the interface is rudimentary. Needs some work.
Constantly dropping devices
Amazon Alexa works to control IKEA devices without any problem, but this app constantly drops devices out of groups. I have to regroup them almost every day.
V good, some small areas to improve
Really good app, very simple to use and to add new devices. Small areas that could really help: 1. A dark mode (my poor eyes!), one that follows the system preferably. 2. The ability to operate the system when not connected to home wifi. At the moment the only way of doing that is through Alexa or similar.
Issues with “Scenes”
Hi- I have tried to get support via your tech support but they are clueless on how to get help with your app. So I am writing here in hopes to get some help. I have some scenes setup to play music on sonos speakers. I have discovered a bug. My first question is there a max number of speakers a Sean can support? One of my scenes will work for one day and then it won’t. If I delete and then setup again it works. I have tried different music stations to see if that is it but that’s not it. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the shortcut button but my long press scene will not work after one day of being setup. I can go in the sonos app and it’s pairing the correct speakers together and adding the correct music but it won’t play. Can someone help me look into this?
Blind people are customers too so why can’t IKEA make this app accessible for them?
All this company needs to do is follow Apple‘s guidelines when building a app and use their native tools instead of some clunky third-party shortcut to building an app with a non-Apple framework. The result of this app spore development is that high as a blind user can’t adjust my blinds can’t easily add them or see their status. Buttons are on labeled so I have no idea what buttons do and content overlays other content so as I move around the screen I’m hearing options that aren’t even visible on the screen because they’ve been hidden but the screen reader has not been told they been hidden
It works great
Seeing all the reviews , I have to so I’ve had zero problems so far and it works great, I’ve never had it crash or not work. It also integrates with my sonos very well. Adding the widgets would be a great feature so you can turn you lights on and off from you home screen
App update trashed system
Still having issues even after app update on 1/24/23. Firmware up-to-date. Gateway 1.19.46, blinds 2.3.088, repeaters 2.3.86, remotes 2.3.079. App still says to add right blind and not recognizing left or middle blinds. I have used this app for a couple years for my IKEA blinds. Rarely had any problems that a hub reboot wouldn’t solve. But after the latest update I can’t get the blinds to work. They always show as unreachable. I tried hub reboot, network repeater reboots, even tried deleting a blind and add it back in. It looked like it added it since it allowed me to name the blind AND it connected to Alexa, but it’s not showing in the app. It keeps saying to add “right blind,” but each time I try it doesn’t work. The middle and left blind are shown in the app as unreachable and in Alexa as unresponsive. VERY unhappy.
Tradfri- load of rubbish. The light bulbs keep forgetting
Takes ages to set up, and then the bulbs forget they are paired with their own switch, AND the gateway forgets them too.
Great - if it works
It's a great system and very good value if it works. If it doesn't work be aware there is ZERO technical support available in the UK. There is only the regular customer service number and they cannot provide any information not already on the website.
Every few days it loses connection
Every few days the gateway loses connection to my home network and none of the apps can find it. It requires us to restart the gateway - unplug it for a few seconds and then turn it on again. This is very inconvenient. We’ve had this issue since we got the device.
