The Spec ePaper
My wife and I have subscribed to the electronic version of the Spectator for years now. Since moving to Florida three years ago, we have continued to enjoy reading the paper daily and keeping up with what is going on in the city and around the globe. Kindest regards, Brian Dekleine
Online
The online version is terrible. Avoid!
Spec e-app
I love reading the Spectator. Sadly, the e-app is not downloading the latest version on my iPad. I can only read it on my phone.
App is useless with iOS
I created an account to “log in using Apple” but I cannot sign into the app this way, it only allows via email & password. Please fix this, the website is trash on mobile.
Intuitive app and informative paper
The Spec is the source for quality information in Hamilton and area. The app makes reading the morning paper easy after giving up paper.
Just let me read the paper - baffled by horrible app
I can’t tell you how broken this app is, it’s beyond useless. I was hoping to start reading the paper again, I can’t it won’t let me even though I’m a paying customer! This app keeps asking me to sign in and then tells me my info is wrong! Extremely frustrating! I just want to read the paper, why do I have to create 2 separate accounts to read the paper! I will not renew my subscription. You have lost me completely, way too complicated of a process, especially in 2024 I just want to read the paper!
Easy to use
Great way to read the paper. It’s easy to use with more options than I personally need, my only issue with it is that occasionally o have to wait a bit for the menu bar to disappear so that I can access an article near the top of the screen
Online Spectator
We enjoy reading the online Spectator. It is accessible wherever we are and no wasted paper to fill the landfill. It helps us to stay up to date with current news.
Free
Why is this not free anymore I can’t put advertisements have to pay for it
spec e-paper
Because of COVID we switched from print to e-Spec and it we were surprised at how much we like it. We love how it’s an exact replica of the print product, it’s familiarity and ease of read. Each story has a convenient link to offer for more info. And you can print any article you want, such as the crossword. Very well thought out.
Perfect for iPads
After being driven insane trying to read the paper from Spec.com on my ipad ( zooming pages back &forth, bouncing around ,etc,) this app fills your screen perfectly and you can easily go page to page like reading the paper with the convenience of electronic delivery.
Spec app is not “free.”
After reading countless comments about how Spec articles are unlocked (no paywall) and free to read on the Spec app, but I can’t seem to own ANYTHING without being asked to spend money. Maybe there’s a second Spec app that is hidden in the search that is the “free” one, but this one definitely isn’t it.
Disappointed in the new version
I've had the Spectator for years. Both delivered to my home on and off.....then couldn't have it delivered when I moved temporarily to McKellar, Ontario. I decided to go with the e-version when it came out and was thrilled that I could download it even when on vacation in other countries. But, I must say, since the new version (when Frid Street stopped printing) I've been disappointed in the layout and number of pages (lesser amount). Also, there seems to be so many articles from American news outlets. More Local news articles would be appreciated. I'm glad we still have the Motherlode (Lorraine Sommerfield), Jeff Mahoney and other local journalists contributing articles. I'll still continue to enjoy receiving the Spec, especially as I'm a snowbird now. Please, consider more local news and sporting events. Thanks, Janet Brooks
Excellent!
Excellent app! Almost as good as reading the newspaper in your hands.
Review
This am it would not download onto my computer. I find this has happened before. Also this morning I was able to go to other sites and had no problem. Why does this happen with the spec site? Also it is very difficult to write a review unless you give a nickname which I tried doing five times.
Review
This app never works. Always wants to charge me $9.99 to view a paper I have subscribed to since 1985.
Where is my paper
I can’t get it over the net
Bad timing
The Spec’s timing couldn’t be worse to roll this out. At a time when people are trying to stay informed, paying to see what’s happening in our community. Nickel and diming the public isn’t the answer, work on your advertising revenues instead
There was a bit of a learning curve
But once I became adept at resizing articles and text I found reading the Spec on my iPad completely satisfactory. I’ve had difficulty in using the app’s share and comment functions but I’m sure over time they will become more user-friendly. Overall I thing the Spec app represents good value for money spent and hopefully supports our local news source.
Trying to remove an addional section “ceasefire” was not corrected when I updated the Spec APP.
See my title!
Hamilton spec
I liked the old one not this new one I don’t want to pay for it
Great product
Very excited to see this new technology work with the Spectator. Works very well.
The Hamilton Spectator Is Greed
They just forced us to download their new app from the old one. First off it crashed twice while trying to open it. Secondly now it makes me want to pay to read their mindless drivelling? I think not. Good luck Spec but I certainly won’t pay for your biased reporting.
Was working fine until switch to Torstar
Simply cannot login. The very helpful folks at The Spec tried but could only login on PC. It shouldn’t be this hard in 2019!
Does no work with latest iPads
Very disappointed, I bought a new iPad Pro and the app no longer works properly. The techs at the Spec tried to no avail. They cannot seem to get it working...
