A great free resource for BSL learners
I’ve been using this app for a good few months in conjunction with InterSign BSL and they’re both fantastic resources! There’s definitely areas to be improved, as the other reviews suggested, but you really can’t beat a FREE resource like this! Absolutely fantastic, making learning sign more accessible for those who may not be able to afford a course!
After one video it force closes the app
I thought I would try this one out. Checked a couple of the searched words. Watched one video, then went onto another of the same word and it force closed. Done it again to another 3 words and all of them forced closed. It last 2-3 minutes on my phone before deletion
Brilliant resource, only one criticism
I've started using this BSL dictionary, and it's proven to be a remarkably useful resource. I am very grateful for it. My one and only gripe is that each version of a sign doesn't specify which regional dialect it comes from. If that were to be added, it would be a full five stars! I would absolutely still recommend this though.
Not the best
I guess it would work for learning bsl but it’s just not very good and there are so many better options out there

This app is great and so helpful but just really needs an update.
Brilliant free resource
This BSL dictionary is highly recommended for learners of BSL. Perfect? No. Pretty incredible free resource? Absolutely.
Could be better
I do basic sign language with my little boy and thought this app would be great for those words that I haven’t learnt yet but the app crashes after playing each video so I have to reopen it and search all over again. Such a shame
Good but not everything
It is a really good app, for BSL (British sign language) but is doesn’t have a couple words such as “was” and some others, so I give 4 stars.
Crashes
The reason for only 2 stars every time I type a word the videos come up I click on it and app goes down so I go back on and type in search again this time I can watch one vid but if need to watch another goes down again so I am Constantly Have to go back into app repeatedly when it shouldn’t be closing down all the time. Needs an update and fixing Thanks
Great app
Good app however some words are not there ie: Calendar? Assumed all words would be there.. I’m currently studying BSL level 2 and find this app to be the best one out there so far and only just discovered it lol

Amazing but
Since getting an iPhone X, the app just crashes after playing one video. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars..
Best app so far
I’m currently only level 2, and this app has been very helpful! I mostly use it when I have forgotten something and I need a quick find. Which is great. However the only issues I have is that it doesn’t say what region each sign is. Which is something that is important to know when learning. This would make the app quicker and easier to use.
poor
one videoed person is quite dark so is hard to see another the person is too quick videos don't have an automatic repeat the most commonly used signs should be used not dozens based of regions
Needs work
The app is good with videos for the words I’m searching for. However the ‘previously searched words’ are not mine, so each time I go on the app there’s loads of quick links to weird words. I want my previous ones to be displayed so I can refresh when needed. It’d be helpful to be able to save favourites as well and have categories to help me better search for appropriate words.

Broken
This app used to be really helpful with a variety of different signers to illustrate not just the vocabulary but the discrepancies that occur with the way people sign. Now, the app will open then crash as soon as I try to tap a second sign. It’s now useless. Please fix this.
Great app to learn but needs more words
Videos show the signs for words you can search for. Great. But I would love to see an update where, if you search for a word and it isn’t in the list of videos (which happens a lot) then you can send a sort of “suggest add” to ask the developers to create a video of that word for the list.
Could be better
Immediately downloaded this as a simple app to help me learn BSL and to be fair, it is nicely laid out and simple to navigate. What bothers me is that there’s no sense of organisation, and the randomly generated list of words I was greeted with on the first time opening the app included the word ‘retard’. Was not heavily impressed with that. Being able to bookmark or sort words into folders of similar themes would be nice, or a list of all entries to help find a word if the one you search for has no results

It’s amazing any word you need to know type up then there it is I found it really helpful for weird words that won’t be known by many people this was just a easy way to find words for bsl - LOVE IT
Waste time
I ever see that is really pathetic when I notice that you sign coke which say cocaine which you say coca coke that don't specify match of drug sign. Also when I notice that has no feel like a robot look like you really not bother to teach them where is the feel. Last thing I have notice this look like SSE (sign support English), BSL (British sign language) look like mix up which is specific right group. Please don't use it download please use my advise best thing meet real meet deaf people they can teach you.
Specify the region
Loving the app. I’m currently learning BSL level 1, and this app is incredibly useful for gaps in my knowledge. However, with the difference in signs, it would be good to know which are the regional songs and where they are from as I know signs in London can differ to those to the West and the North.
Helpful App, but crashes
Helpful to remind myself of different words. Although their is often a few different versions I now recognise the guy I usually go with. The app is now crashing a lot and getting pretty annoying.
Great App
Love this App. It has really helped me to practice BSL in everyday life as I can search for words I’ve not yet learnt through my course. I like that there is usually more than 1 video showing the variations.

Crashes too much
Everytime I go to clear a word the app crashes. Its really handy but frustrating when I have to keep opening the app to look for a new word
AMAZING
I downloaded this app and it is amazing i love how its shows videos of how you do the signs and how there are different videos of different people doing them. I really like how you can search what you would like to say and how if you scroll to the bottom sometimes it gives you other words which are similar. It’s really useful but i do wish you could like do a course and I wish it showed you key sentences like my name is and hello how are you so you don't have to search individual words. Bar those two things really loved it and would definitely recommend it.
A great tool
I’m learning BSL and this is a fantastic reference app and it’s really good to see different people signing. However, I wish there was a ‘sign of the day’ feature. I would use it more as a vocab builder then.
Glitches
Since the iOS update on iPhone the app keeps crashing which is very annoying as i can’t use it as often as I used to. Prior to that this app was very helpful for my revision
Good app
This app is good but I think that there is only one problem, when you go onto search the suggestions are random words. I would like it more if instead of the suggestions it had your recent searches so you can refresh. But other than that, this app is great. I started learning BSL a few days ago and I used to always go on the website, and have to keep searching for it. But now it’s on an app. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to learn British Sign Language. 👍
Very good. Please stop crash bug
Very good app has come in handy for my level 1 and progressing onto my level 2. But can you please please please fix the crash bug as every time you go to try another video of the same word screen goes black and crashes and you have to start all over again which is very annoying. I have tried uninstalling the app reinstalling and still having the same problem.
Faulty
I'm not deaf, just trying to learn. Have already passed the basic level of bsl on an online course, but trying to expand my vocabulary so I can communicate with other signers. This app isn't bad, but has some faults such as the word 'cry' shows you the video to the sign 'shout'. Two completely different things. Sometimes, the words don't match what is being signed for example, click on the word 'surround' and you get one signer signing the word 'environment' and another signing the word 'wall', but no-one signing the word 'surround'. Very frustrating 😡
Fabulous
Thank you so much for this App. I am currently learning BSL to help Deaf people learn the Bible. This has been an invaluable one-stop place to visit for help with vocabulary!
Hmm...
It’s nice to learn new things and this helps me do exactly that. However, it is disturbed by the app crashing after every video. Other than that, this is a nice helpful app.

Faulty
“SuffolkNaturalist” - You have to say “weep” not cry. Weep is very specific whereas cry has other meanings. Hope this is helpful :-). You also have to understand that in BSL there are regional signs and more than one way to sign the same word. Online is ok for basics but important to know how BSL ‘works’. I found this very useful as I’ve studied BSL to certification.
