New kanji when reading
Very helpful in finding out the definition and reading of a kanji by writing the kanji out.
I can’t open the app…
I downloaded it and it said this app is compatible with my phone, but the app closes every time I try and use it. I think this is a bug
As advertised, works well.
But they pester you to rate it the very first time you draw a kanji on it, and every time thereafter until you rate them. Maybe even after that. And it’s annoying to be asked to give a review before one knows how reliable the app is, or how it handles rare or borderline cases. So, this app may be worth five stars, or three.

Great app very useful for my efforts trying to learn japanesei
I find this app very very useful. I would buy the pro version because I think the developer deserves it except that I’m worried after looking at its description that it won’t work the same way and I’ll what I have with this. So if your reading this devs imo it would be better to have purchasable upgrade in the free app rather than having to buy a separate pro version.

okay so it crashed. cool
tried scanning the exact kanji shown in the app store example picture and it hung on “recognizing…” for minutes at a time (the “new, inn, ward, duty, place”) and wouldn’t scan. tried getting it to analyze an image and it kicked me back out to the app’s main menu. tried doing it again and then it crashed. loving this so far.

I payed to have all the advertisements removed but the google adds are still constantly on my screen??? You can’t advertise it as “pay to remove all advertisements from Kanji Lookup” and not actually “remove all advertisements” when we pay you to do so!

Unreliable, works great when it wants too though
Some nights the Kanji scanner works perfectly and gives furigana plus the English translations of the Kanji, which makes reading through Japaneae texts effortless and incredibly smooth. Other nights however it is completely worthless and only gives furigana and absolutely refuses to give English translations for even the most simplest of Kanji. Unfortunately it is literally 50/50 crapshoot on when this thing decides to work or not, literally only works as intended half the time, so it is unreliable and thus looses quite a bit of stars for me. A shame, because there is so much potential. Please fix these bugs and I will fix my review.

Brilliant
I use every day! Brilliantly organized, easy to use, comprehensive down to the radical, useful examples, easy to look things up… I wish I had this available to me 30 years ago when I first started studying Japanese! Excellent job!
Utterly useless
1) the camera wants to read horizontally rather than vertically 2) it doesn’t actually recognize anything, even in clear black and white print, not hand written 3) the drawing feature even gets very simple kanji wrong, always assuming you mean something more complex than you do Real shame. An important tool and there seems to be none which actually function.

This is basically a good app, but adding the ability to pronounce the kanji would really bump it up a level.
Readings, stroke order, video—it’s got it all
Returning to recover my reading skill after many years out of the country, this app has been a godsend. It will find what you’re looking for no matter how sloppy your writing is. To learn kanji you have to write them properly, though, and the animated stroke feature is terrific for that practice. The example words are well chosen, too, and the sample sentences are great.

The content of this app is great for Japanese learners, but it’s wild to make users watch a 30 second ad to look up a single Kanji
Doesn’t work at all
This app is terrible. Doesn’t recognize a single kanji character. Even with testing with 1 or 2 stroke characters it doesn’t detect it at all

Garbage
I have drawn scores of kanji and have had one recognition - one! Do not waste your time on this whatsoever. They don’t even have support.
One of a Kind
One of a Kind App. It definitely has some flaws and I wish it had quiz-like features with the words you favorite. However, it is the only app I use for looking up Kanji because its drawing feature is the most accurate I have found. It also offers extensive vocabulary and descriptions about each Kanji. I have not seen any other app match their level for Kanji Lookups.

There are many Kanji Apps, but this one is the best. It is easy to look up words if you can write Japanese.
Not good
At all
Just what I needed as mid level learner
It is a great challenge to find an approach that allows you to get over the beginning Japanese language hump, but this app did it for me. Although, I know I will need another app or approach to improve on my grammar, this app is giving me a rapid increase in vocabulary through exploring Kanji in a surprising way, by just random exposure. What sticks sticks and what doesn’t is increasingly familiar over repetition.
Incredible!
This app has made all the difference in my kanji/Japanese study! No longer do I have to spend minutes at a time to look up kanji by radical or by the number of stokes - this app instantly tells you the kanji the moment you finish writing it. And it gives you the compound words you’re likely to see that kanji in. I can’t say enough Scott how great this app is!
Maddeningly bad at guessing
Maybe I’m just too much of a gaijin, but after many attempts at drawing many kanji, it just doesn’t seem to be able to suggest anything close. Tried on kanji showing up in both classic Godzilla movies and modern Miss Sherlock.
Very nice, but...
There seems to be a problem with the camera taking a picture of a kanji and then looking it up. Seems to take the photo just fine, then ....nothing.
