Updated review - AWFUL SHOCKING APP
Updated 2026: SHOCKING SHOCK ING SHOCKING APP!!!!! If I was you, AVOID AVOID AVOID. Video calls never connect and when they do it’s jumping all over the place and delayed as for before it STILL takes 3 attempts to make a video call, phone calls there is approx a 30 second delay so you cannot actually have a conversation with someone. If I was the CEO or the “creator” of this app I would be embarrassed. This is not a successful app, this is abysmal. It’s unfortunate that I have to continue to use this app and I am ONCE again looking forward to the day I NEVER have to use this again. If you would like a successful app and without any negative comments.. I would sort it out! If I could I’d leave 0 starts out of 5. useless useless app!! Messages do not send straight away and get stuck on sent, if you don't realise you could be waiting hours for a response but actually the message had never sent!! To make a video call it takes at least 3 attempts to get it to connect, to either see said persons face, the 2nd time you can see but not hear them and then the 3rd finally works!! Drains your phone battery even when not using it, looking forward to the day I never have to use this app again.
Notification trouble fixed now.
Seems decent enough. Not quite as polished as Signal but supports message backups so superior in that area. From v 3.111.1 notifications now work after contacting Wire support and doing the steps below. “… take backup , logout from the app , remove the app , then reinstall and logback in and restore backup.”

Använd samma version av Wickr den appen kan hjälpa wire bli riktig bra app men utvecklaren tror han måste bytas ut omgående han har först hela appen lovar er de varje dag något nytt se sinnessjukt försök kopiera wickr konceptet de kommer hjälpa er expandera snabbare snälla ni har gjort så folk har fått grå hår bre
Downloading photos
App works fine until I download photos. It then freezes and crashes. So have to reinstall it.
Great messaging app
Been using this app for years now, never had any trouble, friends and family are also using it now
Poor
Frequent issues with chat loss, sudden disassociation of client or browser and server, no internet issues which imply certificate pinning failure somewhere in Wire’s network . Errors about random people being removed from chats years after they were gone. Ability to delete former users is nice, probably the only reason we are using it.
Love the app would like a lock
I really love the app, nice to use and it looks so sleek. The only reason I have it 4 stars is because you can’t lock the app or specific chats. If i was able to lock the app it would of been a 5 star review!
NOTIFICATIONS DOESN’T SHOW UP — AN ISSUE USERS ARE FED UP OVER EN MASSE!
As several others have pointed out; the app is currently struggling with not showing notifications of new messages. I’m kind of a power user of the app and have tried literally everything to address this, but nothing helps! You need to take care of this PROMPTLY!
Glitchy
Since the last update this has been very glitchy. Messages are syncing much slower than they did before and now I get numerous notifications that aren’t needed. One on delivery, another when read and then another when they reply. Pretty annoying!
Actually very good
I love the layout of the app. Very clean design (especially in chat) and I also like how you can organise your chats into folders. Pretty good.
Support is Nonexistent!
Started well, not flashy but perfectly adequate. However, the support is atrocious (read nonexistent). Seeing as this is an App is aimed at businesses (I use it amongst work colleagues) there is no consideration for urgency or issue resolution. I hope to have my sign-in issue rectified but it’s 2 weeks and counting (zero response so far).
Only Wire sounds available (iOS)
Great in all respect bar the fact that only the default sounds work for ringtone & messages. The default Wire message notification is too quiet and the fact that I can't set another makes the app unusable for me. (Note, you can select (put a check mark) on an alternative sound but it is silent). iOS 16.5, IPhone13 (Tried on two separate devices).

Supposed to replace telegram but i’m not convinced yet.! Can’t even send a large video as you can send entire movies on other platforms. Can’t use my animojis anyway 🙁😞
Notifications
Struggling and annoying with notifications as they don’t show up and ping when you receive a message. I’ve done all the necessary changes to make it happen. But I’m reading messages and reply to them a week later and not up todate. Please help solve this easy situation

Unreliable, useless
The “service” is unreliable, doesn’t ring when I call someone, doesn’t ring when someone calls me, camera is not working in most ocasions. It was promising 5 yeats ago but it got worst by the hour. Delete from all devices.

Très bonne application, super pour la confidentialité des données. Cependant il faut à tout prix revoir le Design UI de votre application, je trouve difficilement lisible les conversations de groupes.
Knot easy
Set up an account but family very difficult to make any logical sense of the pathway through I’m sure it does work well for for some folks but for me I found it awkward

Elegant and intuitive and very private
A very elegant and original and private messaging app recommended by James Corbett. My only issue is that I can’t select a GIF and add text under it and then post it on a group chat - like I can in Signal messenger, I have to post the GIF first then add text - come on Wire - after a few updates this still is the case! It shouldn’t be difficult to fix.
Buggy
Eek… would love to use this but seems so buggy… eg adding people to an existing group gives an error….. automated email reporting reply saying little support given to personal users…. Any thoughts?

Great app… but…
Great app, but a few improvements needed compared to other apps; I.e Multitasking during calls… you can’t access another app that has video playback during a call without being audibly disconnected from your wire call. Apps like LINE and WhatsApp allow you to be on a call while you for example watch a YouTube video or even just go on social media and see multimedia posts without disruption to your current call. Also screen sharing during call would be great. Other than those things it’s my go to app. Look forward to its future improvements 🫡

Très en dessous de la concurrence
En 2020 on doit attendre d’une appli de Visio qu’elle marche. Ce n’est pas le cas ici, le son est atroce, l’image pas droite selon l’appareil que vous utilisez... Essayé sur iPad, sur iPhone, et sur galaxy s20. Dans tous les cas c’est inutilisable, obligé de gueuler pour se faire entendre.

Just been bumped off Wire because my iPhone doesn’t have. 16 operating system. Seems Wire isn’t a very green company if it won’t support older phones. As a family we’ll be looking at other systems.

Can’t share to v3.92
Just updated iPhone app to v3.92 yesterday, now I’m unable to share to Wire from other apps. I have to copy and paste or save and attach. Please fix.

This app is really the future if things are done correctly.This the only app so far that allows you to remove your phone number.All other encrypted apps exposes your phone number.Where is the privacy when your phone number is out there with your contacts.? But Wire has sorted that out for me.thanks alot
App may have got worse
I think Wire has got worse. I cannot search for and add new contacts as they don’t appear when the username is typed in. And please for the love of god allow users to delete contacts

Still the same issues from 2 years ago unfortunately
I used this app 2 years ago for a few months but got frustrated with the terrible notifications and went back to another messaging app. I re downloaded it back in January to see if it has improved but no the same issues of never receiving notifications is still there and is now forcing me to give up on the app once again.
Still Crashes
Latest update says the app crashing after opening has been fixed but it hasn’t. Please fix
GET WIRE
This app is so good because you don’t need contacts even if you do have other ways to connect with your friends and family I would still use wire because of all the options you can use. Also the group calls and face time is all included. Me and my friend have a group we’re we chat all the time. You can also use wire in different countries as some other apps do not work across the world. SO GET WIRE!!!
Never works and drains battery
Notifications stop coming through after a few weeks, even if you refresh the notification token. Despite all this, it still uses +20% of my battery with hours of background use according to the iPhone settings. Rubbish, uninstall.

Thanks for adding the option to disable links previews! But! Please when I chose to disable links previews, don't send me it from other who didn't disable it! Where is the common sense???
Encore des bugs
On ne peut pas tester car si on veut s’enregistrer avec un numéro de téléphone français, l’application rejette avec un message comme quoi il faut rentrer un numéro valide. Il doit y avoir un problème de reconnaissance des formats de numéro de téléphone.
Not sure why it logs me out then deletes my complete chat?
Other than that and some minor lags, and screen blacking out when too close to the camera, so far so good.
Fabulous
This is a great calling app, the only issue that you don't know people in your list because they appear in their nicknames, not as you save them in your phone contact list. Please sort this out as it's absolutely important to know people in your list.
Not giving audible notifications
Just gives a barely audible click on new messages - people have been saying this for six years but nothing has been done - shame it spoils a potentially useful app

J’étais très satisfait de Wire jusqu’à présent mais depuis la ou les dernières mises à jour, l’application a tendance à ralentir et a consommé énormément de batterie. Dommage ! J’espère que ce problème sera réglé dans les prochaines mises à jour.

It’s a fine app but lately it seems to just close. It just to not send messages unless I closed and restarted the app. Now if just closes when I’m trying to use it. Not very reliable. Developers, please update. Thanks
