Does not navigate
The app does not do turn by turn navigation as it traditionally did. Unfortunately this is not mentioned anywhere when you purchase the in app features. Basically you get a “guide” that you could have searched.
Great app, well worth having!
Was a life saver when we visited Botswana & Zambia. Allowed us to take the routes less travelled. However, I did find it rather difficult to download my routes from my Mac to my GPS but then I am pretty much a novice in this regard. Would be even better if the maps could work through Apple CarPlay. We will be using the app again next year when we re-visit Botswana and explore Namibia.
Keeps crashing
As soon as I scroll around the app it crashes
Good offline but unintuitive navigation
Great place info and access offline is a real plus BUT navigation is very difficult. Creating a trip, changing it and getting distances to locations are all very frustrating to work out. We reverted to Google Maps.
Knowing where I am
I may not be using the full potential but while on a ride i use it to find out where i am at a backroad intersection, and from there what roads lead where.
Tap the map to close the app
Try to find campsites. But when you tap on any pin the app just closes. Very useful. I think I will install it on my Nokia 1610.
Magic Tour wit T4A
During August 2025 we traveled Kruger National Park , Bottom to top, Mozambique, Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe, Mana Pools, Matopi National Park, Vic Falls add back to SA via Botswana Chobe, Senyati, Elephant Sands and Traxks4Africa was instrumental with excellent guidance through Africa.
Missing a few important things and can’t search
The map is awesome, I am not able to search for anything though? It would also be great to be able to save locations?

Die App ist in Ordnung und leider Alternativlos. Leider etwas umständlich in der Nutzung und ziemlich teuer. (Man braucht die HD Map zzgl. der Reiseführer)

Latest update crashes on iPad Air2
The moment I updated the app, it opens up and while loading my favourites, it crashes every time. Needs much more work.

Excellent app for overlanding. I hope that in the future, trips and favourites can be set up offline from the app and not only from the web
Lack of detail=big problem
Purchased this app for a 3-week self-drive safari around Botswana. This app was quite helpful—until you come to any intersections of multiple roads or twisty conflagrations, which is rather common while off-roading in Botswana. In this situations, it’s nearly useless! You have to drive for 5 or 10 minutes, then check again to see if you’ve guessed the right direction. This cost us several hours of being lost multiple times, getting stuck in messy off-road paths, sometimes in dangerous situations, getting dark, very isolated, animals about, and far from our campsite. This was stressful. I am far from a beginner with maps and traveling. The zoom just stops at a level way too high up. At about 1 cm to a mile! The blue dot-arrow with your position is some 200 m across. Why? It seems inexplicable. It was extremely frustrating. I though maybe I was doing something wrong, like I hadn’t unlocked some park of the app. But the app shows the switch for the guide green and good to go. We were very dependent on this app but could not rely on it.
Zoom Levels
Please add more refined zoom. I’ve read your online piece about why you can’t increase zoom levels, and as a developer myself that sounds like garbage. Phones today can handle it, additionally, you could add options to for the map size you want to download. Please, this app would be many times better if I could get zoom that I can actually use to get myself un-lost. Please!
Absolute Overland Essential
I recently did a road trip from South Africa to Botswana and Namibia. This app got us out of trouble when the local e-sims weren’t working. 20:00 at night in the middle of the Nxai Hame Reserve we were able to make our way to camp using this app. No signal required for GPS location.
R600+ worth of Maps and Guides not Downloading
Got the app on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Immediately registered and clicked on 3 maps to download. WiFi speed is 120MB/s +. No download for more than an hour. Closed the app. Logged out. Deleted the app. Logged in. Restored purchases and tried again… still NOTHING. Came to the app store and saw 5+ years of bad reviews and similar complaints. Really dissatisfied and disappointed as I used to be a big fan of T4A. In this day and age with all the tech available, I won’t recommend. Waste of money.
Great App, but…
I really enjoy using the app, but without CarPlay support it becomes a bit cumbersome using a phone and driving. We can go cradles and and, but it running on your built screen is way more elegant.

Great App
Love the App. Planning trips on tracks4africa and uploading to App is great. Only suggestion i have would be the addition of distance information to the maps. Great in KNP with no data coverage in many areas.
T4A Guide App
The Tracks4Africa Guide App works great for us, we use it whenever we travel off the main roads, which is often and I won’t leave home without it on my iPad. The Guide App has helped us in many instances to choose a better, shorter or more interesting route than the route chosen by the Garmin GPS even when running T4A on the GPS The Guide App is very useful in looking the planned route over on my iPad before we set off to get a good idea of the direction of travel, directional changes, towns, villages or key points along the planned route. That allows me to know what to expect from the GPS routing. There have been a few situations where the GPS, running T4A, got it really wrong but I became aware of it early on, thanks to my route review before the start. When that happens, we use the Guide App to navigate until the GPS corrects itself or I add additional waypoint to “force” GPS to go where we want to. Must add that Garmin’s City Navigator gets it all wrong very frequently even in RSA but especially in other Southern African counties.
Maps not available for iPhone
I bought the maps, and it was not cheap. When I upgraded to a iPhone, I lost all the maps. When I contacted them regarding this problem they weren’t helpfull at all.
Good map but…
Very good and updated map of Africa with all road and trail. I used it in Namibia and Botswana and it was essential. however… it has two major limitations. The first (which is indeed possible on their site) is the possibility of zooming which stops at a resolution of 3Km on the App while on the site you can get to 10m. The second is the impossibility of calculating at least the distances between two points.

Waste of money!
What a disappointing app! Bought 3 guides and still do not have hd track access as promised. Struggling to register and login. Seems I am missing buttons on my iphone SE??
Fantastic
This app is awesome. There are a couple roads that aren’t on the app. Can you maybe look at getting satellite view? Would be really nice to see that kind of view when looking ahead on the various roads and 4x4 routes. If there was a way to integrate our phone GPS, we could also upload and update roads that aren’t on the app?
Zoom not great
Zoom function non existent. Not worth buying when going 4x4
Not well maintained
Unfortunately the maps are not well maintained and pretty outdated. E.g. Chobe Riverfront is not up to date at all unfortunately.
Great app
I use this in tandem with my garmin overlander- I refer very ofter to the app on my phone to ensure that I stay on the correct track! Never let me down and more accurate than anybother map

Car play please
I love this app, traveled in Botswana and was able to navigate solo to catch up to my group using this app. Please add car play support, this would make navigation even better.
Camping
Want to know if this app will be useful for finding camping sites in South Africa but I don’t know if the app does this as the “demo” does not show listings.
EXCELLENT but needs work
Has an app for navigating around off-road tracks in southern Africa this is definitely bees knees! sure it doesn’t have a navigate button nor do you get everything included for free but must buy the individual country capsules which let’s face it as so cheap that it’s incredible! Where it does come into its own and where it’s in valuable is it detailed maps of tiny sand type tracks ……. if you have it on and you come to over let’s say Y junction and you’re not sure which way to go follow one and the little blue dot moves with you and within 100 m it’s so detailed you can tell whether they’re on the correct track or not ! The search-ability is arguably lacking but to my mind is main downfall is that it doesn’t work with Apple CarPlay. More and more vehicles have CarPlay and it would be invaluable if we could display the app on a larger screen rather than be limited to the size of our phone.
Unbeatable
This app has been a life saver on our journeys through Southern Africa. The best feature in my opinion is that it works via satelight and doesn't require any network or WiFi connection. I also love being able to see exactly where we are at all times.
App not working on IPad pro M1
Anyone else also experiencing this, i reported this a few months ago, still no feedback whatsoever. Hopefully the developer can sort it out soon. Its much better to track on the ipad than on the phone.
It's critical to have
Scratch that, you might not be able to use any navigation features, which would be great, but you have no other way of easily having an update to date map.
Streets of the Namibia map are missing
Please fix the bug that we can not see the streets in the Namibia map. I need it on Sunday and payed for this ;). Otherwise I can not use the map.

As mentioned above, if Zoom is bigger than 8.00 it goes blank. This makes this app useless. It used to go up to 13.00 Zoom. Please update ASAP! Edit: Works now, thanks for updating!
Für mich nicht brauchbar
Ich konnte die App in Botswana nicht nutzen, da sie keine Mehrwert brachte. Positiv: - GPS-Daten wurden zuverlässig gesendet - Nürzliche Hinweise (z.B. Tankstellen, Supermärkte, Sehenswürdigkeiten) Negativ: - man konnte nicht nah genug heranzoomen, um genau zu sehen wo man ist - die Städte-/Regionnamen standen über den Straßenzügen, so dass man nicht mehr den Straßenverlauf sehen konnte.... - Preis Fazit: ich habe die teure App nach zwei Versuchen kein weiteres Mal genutzt...
Karte nicht besonders Detailreich
Ich finde die App für den angebotenen Preis durchaus nützlich und hilfreich. Etwas enttäuscht war ich allerdings, das nach dem gebührenpflichtigen Freischalten der Namibia Karte, dass, anders and bei Nutzung der Probekarte angekündigt, kein weiteres Reinzoomen möglich war. Damit bleibt die Karte selbst wenig detailreich und z.B. bei Städten und Ortschaften sieht man allenfalls die Umrisse, aber keine Straßen. Mit dem Freischalten ist nur die Anzeige der POI etc. mit Zugriff auf die hinterlegte Datenbank dazu gekommen. Das sollte dem Käufer aber so auch vor dem Kauf klar kommuniziert werden. Schöner wäre es, wenn die App noch weiter Richtung einer echten offline Navigationsapp weiter entwickelt würde und wenn noch mehr Infos aus dem Hervorragenden Buch Tracks4Africa Namibia Guide aufgenommen würde, damit man sich die Mitnahme des doch recht schweren und großen Buchs ersparen kann.
Awesome! Works with Roaming Off!
Did a trip to Lesotho recently and had no cell signal and roaming turned off. I was amazed it was still able to track our position. This app is absolute gold! The fact that you can zoom so far is the game changer. I also own the Track 4 Africa A3 map book which is pretty useless due to the scale being too zoomed out.
No navigation
Why can it not navigate, it’s a waste of R100, I still have to use my Garmin GPS which is another unnecessary device when my phone has a GPS, so I need T4A on my Garmin device too

Not routable poor quality
I should have read the fine print I have the Tracks4Africa on my gps and laptop and was so pleased to see an app I downloaded but very disappointed with app and details are poor
