This was a fantastic upgrade to Google Maps!! Highly recommend to any tourist or really - any traveler.
They’ll Rip You Off
For being a Japanese company, they are the most deceitful, fraudulent, unhinged thieves, that I’ve ever done business with. I cannot believe that the Japanese ministry and their tourism company recommends this agency. It is a disgusting representation of what’s good in the people of Japan. Do not do business with them. If you can’t get a train to your destination, Rent-A-Car. But avoid this company at all costs. They will rip you off. Also, they will advertise that they can get you seats on a train and then say that they cannot and offer you the difference for the cheaper seats. And when you say no and cancel it, they tell you that because they booked the second portion of your ticket they therefore have the return or cancellation fee of 20%. Dispute all charges with your credit card. Keep all screenshots. Make a case. And if you have to go to their local branch, police department and file a fraud report. It’s the only way to get a company like this to behave professionally.

Better App, that’s Free and offline.
As someone who’s traveled to Japan multiple times this app really doesn’t benefit the traveler, hidden costs, and just not that beneficial. There are other apps to use that can be offline. I found a website RailSensejapan.com that is a offline app. Super handy. Japan Travel can learn a thing or two from them.
Route Navigation
Really bad! Type in place name…click on it…and suddenly the name changes. You have to do this 3-4 times before it actually uses the place you want. Stupid!
Great for finding routes
Used for 3 week trip to Japan and found it extremely helpful for finding routes, especially when there are multiple lines needed.
Can’t get past onboarding
After asking for location services, can’t continue. If kill and restart app, just a blue screen.
Very Helpful
Has made making an itinerary with clear directions and accurate locations as well as travel durations very easy however it’s still buggy and doesn’t always work, I’ve had to restart the app many times because it gets stuck on something. When it works it’s fantastic but it doesn’t always work.
Pay for
If it’s a Japanese app, why do I have to pay for it?
Can be Useful but be careful
We used this app for 2 weeks in Japan. Be aware that the app is run by Navitime travel, a Japanese company that marks up its products through the app. For example if you buy bullet train tickets thru the app you will pay about a 10% premium. Further the app pushes Klook which also marks up. Here’s where the app is useful- for look ahead trip planning that involves multiple stages. Finally be aware that the search function in the app is not that good compared toggle maps
Travel
This was a life saver when we went to your beautiful country
Bad and incorrect information
I tried to use this app but it was worthless. The information it provided to me to try and get out of Narita airport was just wrong. And it constantly interrupts you with ads. I am deleting it. Google Maps works much better.
search by timetable
should have more options to search by timetable
Inaccurate , not worth it
I paid for premium version , had lots of hopes, but found it very underwhelming and this app has many errors getting me lost a few times during just a few days in Tokyo and Kyoto. For example, it has a wrong location for Glanz Kei Kyoto hotel besides others, making our family go in totally opposite directions and lost in residential neighborhood . Fortunately, google maps saved us. That is in addition that despite me paying for premium they still push advertising. Definitely can’t recommend this app. Not sure how they got those reviews. I understand that Japan is hard to navigate but if you charge people at least make sure that common tourist spots are accurately mapped
Still figuring out how to use
This app is a good idea. Maybe it’s still being enhanced…there’s a lot of room to improve. Suggestions for searching routes: 1. Allow users to use the map to pin both start and end points. 2. When editing the start and end points, let the users to edit the locations already entered instead of typing the whole thing again. 3. Include the bus number in the route list. 4. The Map location of a subway station doesn’t pin point exactly to the station exit number…Google map works precisely on that. Features like timetables are nice to have, but you have to pay for the premium version…Google map has that already. Use Google Map for now.
Amazing
Very reliable information!! Even an earthquake incoming will give notification; very helpful!!!
Doesn’t work at all
As the title says, app is completely dead. All I get is a white screen. I’m using an iPhone running iOS 26.5
I can’t upgrade it
I really wanna upgrade my app to the premium version because we are planning to travel to Japan this winter. Unfortunately the webpage is blank with nowhere to buy it. Could you check this problem?
not good
easy use but too much advertisement!
Works but can’t sign in at all
It wouldn’t let me sign in and never sent me an email to confirm my login or anything. Thankfully you can use it without signing in so it works.
Most useful app
Found this app to be super helpful during my recent trip to Japan.
Avoid avoid avoid navitime
No customer support, no desks in transit centers. Lost $200 to these folks. Best to work directly with Japan systems .
Great app on finding route but have some bug on trip feature
Trip feature is a great idea but still have some major bug like when you add new destination or change detail/transportation it won’t update information you need to click on other tab and comeback to make it update. *Some local bus route cannot find on this app or gg map.So you need to visit destination website to find access route.
Less useful than the website
The website is easier to use. It's so much harder to plainly get the information I want (train timetables) from the app compared to the website. Deleted the app, just using the website.
Didn’t Work Well for Me
Unlike many of the other reviews, I found I could only plan train routes, but not buy the tickets via the app. And it wasn’t consistent allowing me to plans routes and times either. Clearly others have had much better experience with it than I did. I’ve just finished a couple of weeks touring Japan - ultimately Google Maps was far better and reliable.
User Friendly!
This is very user friendly when it comes to train transportation. It really details the trains & lines, duration, exits, and what car to go on. It really improves efficiency during your travels in Japan. All in one app for your trip.
ZERO
Bought round trip tickets. I was charged $140. I went to use QR Code at station. It didn’t work. Many employees at the station tried to help. None of them could figure out the issue either. I asked for a refund. They only gave me back $20 at the counter. When I asked the counter, why I was only give $20 instead of the $140, they said they don’t know where the $140 charge came from. Mind you I’m showing them the receipt right in front of them. I don’t know if it is new management, but they seem absolutely clueless. I ended up losing $120 for no services provided.
Station and platform numbers
App works well when you have gps location services. Drop outs regularly. Platform numbers and directions when using could be easier, present. Time tables could be adjustable like choosing to not catch the current train should provide options and delayed times with out having to re search destinations.
Ads in Premium Acccount
I paid $30 for a 90 day premium account partly so I wouldn’t have to deal with ads. The first thing I see when I open the app is an ad for mobile Wi-Fi.
Ignores JR Shinkansen
It always proposes Nozemi Shinkansen even when there is a JR one leaving at same time. It doesn’t even show them as alternative routes. We have a JR pass so Nozemi is extra cost. App should allow to specify we have JR Pass so appropriate routes are offered, with Nozemi as the alternative.
…Just Get It
If you’re going to be taking trains in Japan… just get this app. This is probably my first time writing a review, but I just had to get the word out that this is legitimately a bible for travel in Japan. I did not close this app like once my whole trip! It isn’t perfect, but it’s extremely practical and I would have never gotten through Tokyo without it. It was almost entirely accurate, with only a couple cases where it left me a bit confused, and even then it’s what saved me from that confusion itself every time. Some advice: Use the screenshot feature for every route you plan. I have roaming data but it still cut out in some places so you have to have things saved to access them at any point! Also, I liked to use this in conjunction with Google Maps for the walking routes since the path from this app was a bit hard to read for me. There are plenty of other features on this app that I’m sure other reviewers will talk about, but I’m just so grateful for this app’s help with trains and I think it’s a no-brainer to install it.
Use Google Maps instead
We paid for the seven day premium, and this was a waste of money. The GPS never worked, and Google Maps was much better and more accurate as far as telling you when to walk and when to take the subway or when you should take a taxi. Also, Google maps gives you step-by-step instructions, both written and GPS. Lastly, we purchased speed train tickets on this app and the day before they told us that we got bumped from the train and they refunded our money and at this point there were no more seats left so would definitely never use this app.
Great but...
Great app especially with the trip planner with train schedules. However, it seems that I’m unable to share my saved itinerary with my traveling group. Please help. Thanks.
Google Maps works just as well 🤷🏼♀️
This app is fine but when it came down to it I just ended up using Google maps to navigate in Japan instead. The app would freeze up for me a lot and I just ended up uninstalling.
Useful for finding trains, useless for booking tickets with rail pass
Pretty much as per title. I’ve paid for the Premium version and have a Japan Rail Pass, but it still wants to charge me for tickets when I go to book them. I have chosen routes that are included free with the rail pass.
Amazing App for Japan
This is the first time I’ve ever rated an app and this ones definitely worth it. I was nervous about traveling in Japan without speaking the language knowing most transportation is bus or train, this app made it so stress free. Easy to use, super accurate with timetables, could not have had a better app for travel. 10/10 recommend for traveling in Japan.
STAY AWAY
Huge scam. Massive markup for any tickets purchased through their platform. Better to purchase tickets directly from the train lines you are interested in riding. Customer service is also rude and difficult to contact. Absolutely would not recommend
Do you have app NAVITIME for Osaka ?
Do you have app NAVITIME for Osaka?
Missing water transports
Where are all the ferry services plying around the mainland and to the islands ? I was looking for ferry service to Okinawa from Kagoshima, all I was suggested was a taxi. Duration 1 day + and an incredible fare ! Sorry, but for an island nation with such good transport facilities, this is a big gap.
Good, easy enough to understand
When trying to plan my trip, I found that I wanted to explore areas/neighbourhoods but the app doesn’t allow that, so adding that would be great. Also allowing us to add our own locations if they are not in the app would be good. Adding photos as well would be great, such as wanting to add your own map. Being able to remove transport when the location is in the same place, such as a castle inside a park and there being travel between the two options. Changing the date of things you’ve planned without having to start over, just moving the days.
Super Useful!
I have used the app to help determine which trains to take in my travels across Japan. The information is very accurate and I have no problem calculating the fare to pay that can be especially confusing when looking at the station boards. It also allows the user to select the route based on individual preferences (time, cost, method). Useful for both intercity and urban city train travel. Can’t recommend it enough!
Useless
Can’t do anything without getting asked to upgrade to premium. DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR RELY ON!!
How to share
How to share plan to my family.
Helpful but still missing data
App was a really useful help in relation to the JR Railpass but when it came to details on other ones like the Hakone FreePass details were lacking. The app provided no warning about some services that needed a reserve seat or additional cost when planning you day of travel. Over all it was useful but caused some long delays in time wasting when details were not clear at point of purchase ( ticket machines) or on signs at the platform (reserved only) like others trains advertised.
Slow/crashing on iPhone 6s
App is very slow on iPhone 6S. Heating up my phone like crazy and crashing. I know I have an old phone, but no other app has such poor performance.
Absolutely superb app
Highly recommend for anybody traveling to Japan. Particularly anyone taking either the metro, Subway, or even Shinkansen. You just need to type in your starting point and destination, you can now only the quickest route, but also the fare you need to pay at the station. Worth getting the paid version since you get to see the list of stations and you have to travel.
Terrible app. Just use Google maps
Just like title says, don’t bother with this app. It’s useless, incorrect (times and routes) and user interface is deliberately confusing and difficult to navigate.
Otherwise perfect
I love this app as it takes a lot of information and puts it in one place. I dropped a star because as a user with a paid plan I found the app unusable without a data connection. Could not review past searches as the app just got stuck is a spinning wheel.
Is this reliable?
Thought great initially but… I am getting different results on doing a second search. Also the layout is very annoying - too much space between lines - you need to be able to take a screenshot and it doesn’t fit!
Frustrating
This App was one of the best when you need to find the right transportation when you are in Japan. However after the recent updates, this App cannot be used on my iPad Pro and iPad 6 to search the appropriate routes because there is a Navitime banner blocking the search button! Please fix this ASAP because I really need to use this App on my trip.
