What people like
- Beautiful graphics and nice tile design.
- Great for learning the game rules.
- Helpful hints show best hands to play.
- No ads interrupt your gameplay.
What they complain about
- Subscription feels expensive and unfair.
- Hold button fails to work properly.
- Rules don't match the official card.
- Tiles are too small to read.
Mahj Parlour is worth it!
This app has helped me learn the game-when I went to actually play I felt prepared!
Very Confusing -
I downloaded the app and tried to take the Basics Lesson but could never progress past “learn the tiles”. There appear to be 6 lessons. I also couldn’t find if I needed to pay for the app to proceed.
How do you call??
Beautiful game, I really like the overall aesthetic, but how do you call a chip you need???
Hold button doesn’t work
The hold button doesn’t work so I am unable to call tiles. Otherwise I would love it
Pay to play? Really?
It has a 1-week free trial but I honestly don’t see why it should be pay to play for solo play.
Great game!
This is a great game, especially for beginners like me. Love the daily quick puzzles and having the suggested hands is so helpful The graphics are super clear and I’ve never had any glitches when playing.
Remember when everything wasn’t a subscription?
Why on earth would I pay $7/month for a mahjong app? Remember when you would just buy an app for $0.99 or MAYBE $1.99. And then you would just be able to play the game…without ever having to pay more… Or sometimes there was even a free version you could use until you wanted to upgrade and pay that $1.99 one time fee. This just feels so icky. Also, buying tiles sets within the game? Come on. Capitalism at its worst. 1 star because the design seems good but you can’t play for free unless you let them have your credit card info.
Great App, 1 problem
I absolutely adore this game. I love the artwork, the calling of tiles, the opportunity to have bots play slow or normal speed. My only qualm is not having the option to look at the whole score card. Since I’m paying money for this app, getting the option added to open it during my games would be spectacular.
Great App
I really like this app but have found a few glitches that are making game play frustrating. The first is the app not recognizing the soap dragon in all hands. The second is it not recognizing NEWS as a kong. I would also like the option to pick my tiles that I want to expose. If those things were changed, this would be a perfect app!
Great App
I’ve tried several American mahjong apps, and this is by far my favorite. I love the new daily games they are adding, and I love that I can play against someone else live if my friends aren’t available for an online game. The only feature I would love to have added is the ability to see what the other players/bots were holding when a game ends.
Beware of Charges
I was charged $50 and did not intend to subscribe. Very confusing.
Lessons on iPad needs help
I really like this app and play on my iPad. But the lessons don’t work. The screen doesn’t scroll down and the continue prompt doesn’t show so can’t move on. Discovered this after adding app to my phone.
Beautiful but…
So beautiful but I need the card!
Great tutorials
This app is fantastic for learning the card! It has mini games to help you identify hands and also offers hints of hands you can do and allows you to pin hands as you play. So helpful
Calling Mahjong
I had mahjong on 13579 last line and it wouldn’t recognize! FF 135 777 99J bams - dragon dragon dragon!
So fun - some visibility issues
This is my favorite online mahjong game. The only issue is unless you play with “high visibility tiles” the tiles are laughably unreadable and there is no way to make them bigger. It’s very frustrating.
Beware but not all bad
Beware…has good game instructions BUT you will not be allowed to play anything unless you pay for a yearly or monthly subscription. It said “In-app purchase” but a lot of apps say that but allow you to play with ads…this app is no play at all unless you pay. I give it 3 stars for wasting my time because I wouldn’t have downloaded it had I known that there was no free (with ads) option. However you can get game instructions and helpful tips for free
Great for beginners
This game is great for beginners and to practice your skill and learn the game
Not official NMJL card lines
The lines don’t follow the official NMJL 2026 card.
Amazing!
Beautiful tiles! Only 4 stars because I would like to have the Mahjong beginners round back to relearn steps.
I want to love it!
I love the realistic play but I don’t find myself using it very much because I need my card. I love a game while I’m sitting in a carpool line or taking a break at the office but I don’t love having to balance my phone and card. I think this would be a slam dunk if there were a way to slide the Nmjl card hands out from the side. Other games keep you from having to really strategize and know your card by showing you TOO much about the hands you can build, but this one doesn’t help you enough. Just a place to reference the hands would be so helpful!
LOVE THIS APP
Yes, it costs $7 per month, but it’s incredibly cute and aesthetically pleasing with its beautiful tiles. It’s also a great way to practice. You’ll likely pay more than that per game at a studio. This app is fantastic! There are no ads, and you get to play a full game, including the Charleston.
Pretty close to real
This app is pretty good. It would be nice if the hold and pass buttons were bigger. It was also a little too easy to discard the wrong tile.
Love the design, needs some work for newbies
Beautiful design. I am newly learning to play. If the exposure doesn’t match, please give a reason why and an option to undo that move. Otherwise I’m stuck and have to go to a new card and I don’t really understand what I played wrongly. Thank you!
Use friendly
Easy and quick to sign up. Easy to use and invite and add friends to play.
Newbie
I am NEW to the game. This was cheaper than lessons. I only gave 4 stars because the tutorial went away after I completed the steps. I’d like to go back through to brush up on what I learned.
Want to like but can’t figure out how to call a tile
I like a lot about this especially the beautiful tiles but I cannot figure out how to call a tile so I can’t play. Going to cancel my trial. There is no help section for help using the app. Just for how to play Mahjong
Great game
This game app is great. The artwork is delightful and I love the feature that provides you with the best hand to play and that you can pin it to your view- eliminates the need to have the card every time, which means great for travel. The only downside is the $ it costs to play. There aren’t many “free” features at all and the pricing seems a bit high. Otherwise, I highly recommend if you play or want to learn MJ!
Old Eyes
Need bigger font sizes for us old gals. Also a few more directions would be nice
Love it!
Pretty & easy to play!
Best Mahjong App
This is the best Mahjong app available. The user experience is simple and the interface is beautiful. If you love Mahjong and are looking to play wherever and whenever, this is the best paid option out there. Thank you!
