It’s a New Fire Emblem

Gameplay- 100% f2p. It is a social deduction multiplayer game with two rounds. The first round three players play as disciples of light fighting monsters, but one player is a traitor. After that round there is a vote. If those on the light vote right, they get a second bonus life for the next round where the traitor’s character takes a monstrous (yet cute) form and acts as a boss in a 2v1 PvP battle (the traitor does get 1 or more monsters as well). The game does keep the traditional weapon advantage. Red does bonus damage to green, green to blue, and blue to red. Character- Each character has its own unique ability and three spells that come with it. It takes 12 soul fragments to unlock a character. Medals with green jewels are used to level them up. The three spells that came with that character (as well as their personal skill) level up with them, but the three spells can be used on any character. Levels also are important as they will allow for better weapons to be equipped as their ranks go up. There are multiple original characters as well as legacy characters (as of this review Dimitri, Lyn, Corrin (female version), Veronica, Ike, Edelgard, Ephraim, and Yunaka). Also the art is really good. Rating system- Every character starts at a light rating and shadow rating of 1. During one every other ‘player’ is a bot, but 2-40 are real players. Even if one loses, their rating will continue to go up until rating 19. After that the rating will go down after a defeat (to the current ratings beginning. The rating can’t demote you beyond your current rating though). F2P- This game is actually 100% F2P. The only things money can be used for are battle passes (only legacy characters excluding Dimitri who is able to be unlocked in the game through story progression), outfits, and for those who for whatever reason want to, buying levels. The game instead has chests that give random rewards. Depending on how one does in the match they can get up to three gold chests. These chests will mostly give low level weapons and perks but can give Lv. 7-8 character weapons, character souls fragments, and medals. The legacy characters outside special events have an extremely low chance, but can be obtained after their battle passes ends and their fragments are added to the reward pool. Login rewards- every day there is free medals and gold. Also four daily challenges. One challenge for medals, the other three give points towards battle passes progression. Bazaar- a live player based market where gold is used. Players can sell weapons, perks, and excess soul fragments. Unfortunately it does mean some things are extremely expensive. Also that prices adjust often. Also unfortunately some prices (especially soul fragments) are high because people horde them. Story- the story is in two halves. Light and shadow. They progress through playing as that respective side. There are rewards as well such as soul fragments (most unlocked through this), green jewels, and medals. Some soul fragments are only a portion though and the rest must be unlocked through chest or purchasing from other players in the bazaar. The story is decently good so far. My only complaints are the whole shadow and light path and not being able to revisit the tutorial part of the story from book one. For the first complaint, it’s confusing to tell the one between the two sometimes. The second part is it almost sounded like the stories would be separate with a light and shadow path, not just parts of the whole story. Only the rapports actually do the both sides. As for the second complaint, the tutorial has a decent amount of book 1’s story so if one wants to go back and enjoy the story, they can’t because it’s incomplete. Friends- there are friend lobbies. It is based by making up a code and sharing it. Overall review, it is an amazing game with quick short matches. It definitely isn’t for everyone, but it is worth a try and is a real Fire Emblem whether the complainers like it or not. Hopefully this review was helpful and apologies that it is so long.

(Kind of) mid game

Honestly it’s worse than fire emblem heroes (in my opinion). The stages are always the same, and there’s no special rounds. Also, why are the characters keminomimis for some reason? I get it that the game isnt a full year out of release yet. The story is kind of boring too…just a few dialogue and Thats it. How did this game get three books in less than a year, yet is takes a year for one book to fully happen in fe heroes? The only fun part is getting disciples (and no gacha). However, I will still play this game in case of better updates.

This ain’t fire emblem

Yeah, I tried it, not really a fire emblem game at all, and characters seem pretty weird. I’d even prefer to play Sword of Convallaria or FE Heroes, for the fire emblem type gameplay. But, if you like this genre, go nuts, it’s probably a great game on that viewpoint. Personally, 3 stars.

Easy, poor matchmaking

Light or shadows, it’s too easy. Out of the 25 games I played before giving up, I won every single one. I usually played shadows. Too easy to deceive people, just target one, then yourself, then the last enemy. But only if they take the game seriously. Most people just play roulette and keep changing their guess until the timer runs out, or sometimes they run VC and circumvent the spirit of the game. Doesn’t matter, the matchmaking is terrible enough that you can wipe both their health bars even if they do guess correctly. My main has a move that is an instant KO over a 2 by 2 area. Light is even easier to win.

This Ain’t It

It’s an auto-battler with very little player input. That wouldn’t be so bad if they advertised that upfront. Also, the game jumps right into the tutorial and basically locks you into watching the game play itself for 10 minutes with no title or option screen to turn volume down or change any settings. I find that kinda thing predatory. If you were looking for FE (or any TRPG experience) on mobile, this ain’t it.

Game was okay when I played when it first came out. I deleted because it was a little boring and repetitive. I wanted to redownload and see if they’ve added more or changed things, but it makes me replay the tutorial? Doesn’t give me an option to sign back in. I’m not willing to do the tutorial again because why would I need to? I don’t understand why I can’t login and just resume where I left off? It’s 2026 that should be the mandatory with any game at this point. I’m just going to delete. Okay game with repetitive game play. Unique? Absolutely.

Great game, bad tutorial

Game is very very simple and easy to understand, the game is a 2v1 fighter that takes place in turns, each side has a designated attacking phase and has the ability to use spells every 5 seconds (depending on the spells you use sometimes less), games go by very fast with the main goal of kill everyone or find out who tried to kill you in the first phase without dying on the 2nd phase. Id compare it to dead by daylight but you actually get to fight back, also the tutorial sucks and does not adequately teach you how to play the game and drags on for too long, the battlepass is essentially just more stuff to do daily, and if you miss the character in one you can always get them at a later date for free (their drops are insanely rare so you will have to buy them off the market) also the game has a player run economy that is active enough that you should be able to afford most of the non new bp characters, they also from time to time give out free characters in the story. Overall as a long time fire emblem fan I love it, I wish there was more to do and thats really my only complaint

Love it! My wallet doesn’t…

After playing this game for like 4 hours hours straight, I can deduce that I like it. I think the story is interesting, I like the characters, and a lot of people were saying how they don’t like the combat. I actually enjoyed. However, I did not enjoy how expensive those orb things are. If you want to buy 1 outfit for a character, it’s 150 orbs. And the 200 orbs option is 7.99! Correct me if I’m wrong but, THATS LIKE 8 DOLLARS FOR ONE OUTFIT! The outfits are really cute, but not cute enough to warrant spending that much on an iPhone game. Even if the game is fun. I would still recommend you play it if you’re interested. But not if you want to dress up your characters. (Also, you can get Dimitri as a playable character, and that’s why I gave this game 4 stars)

Deceptively Interesting

So, don’t get me wrong, I love this game and think its super fun. I think that there’s so many neat things about this being quick, bite sized content that’s easy to consume. The mechanics of voting out the Shadow player seems to be beyond me, however. I haven’t been wrong on a vote, because usually the shadow players never change their votes at all when the phase comes up. That’s not even the main thing that boggles me. There’s been countless times where I’ve played both Light and Shadow and I don’t play to kill, just to blend in and be fine, but I somehow end up with both teammates voting me out instantly. Perhaps this has something to do with playing with friends? Even then, there’s been so many times where that type of situation happens, then the Moon Room feels unbeatable because people just don’t play or they give up and don’t make smart decisions to beat the Shadow player. I feel like this game has a lot that it can offer to players in terms gameplay and what it has to offer, but it also feels like its limiting itself in the same, oddly uncomfortable ways.

As a fire emblem fan, this has missed the mark. I appreciate the story and attempt to make it a more RTS game, but it feels sloppy. Culprit is an afterthought almost. Not fire emblem

The gameplay gets stale within 15 minutes. FE is known for its deep strategy. You can't even move yourself here. This is clearly a cash grab, IS was so embarrassed by DeNA's slop that they didn't even advertise it pre-launch. And $8 just to get Lyn? It doesn't look like F2P players will get her within a year, if ever. That money is better spent on FEH, which is a rich game with multiple modes.

Game has its hooks in me

This game is a fantastic way to kill some time. Each battle is bite-sized and lasts about 3-5 minutes. The social deduction element suffers from the same problems all similar games suffer from — to have fun with it you need to play with people who are capable of paying even the most minute amount of attention, which sadly means 99% of people don’t qualify. However, the games are so fast and generally consequence free (you still gain in ranking when you lose, at least for a while) that it doesn’t bother me too much. You gain in power by leveling up all your characters, each of whom has four spells that level with them, three of which can be used by every other character as well. Super neat, though a bit confusing at first. If I have one complaint it’s that you’re gonna get one-shot a lot early on. Even later on progression, if you’re light and the enemy is dark and has a decently leveled spell that exploits your element you might end up one-shot. But it’s fun and worth your time.

★★★☆☆ Canada · v1.0.1 · 15 Oct 2025

Fun, but underwhelming

First of all, have to mention it, to call it a Fire Emblem game is quite the stretch. On its own however, I think it has potential— it does bring a fresh idea to the franchise; a traitor system. However, a shame it falls in what feels like such an incomplete game. Even down to some UI elements in the layout, some details are unpolished. Even the story feels… shallow and far-fetched. I feel bad saying it also shows in the gameplay and lack of content too, the auto battle is souless and feels off to the user. One of the selling points of Fire Emblem is the strategy aspect, so just having to wing around skills/effects is pretty boring. I did enjoy myself a bit, and some character’s designs are nice (with good references such as Alberta and the panther/green knight archetype we see in the series), but… yeah. It is disappointing from the view of a Fire Emblem lover.

I feel like this game could thrive if it was better balanced and updated. Currently; games are extremely short and the gameplay is rather shallow as a whole. And there needs to be more anonymous ways to betray- a lot of the time you can be caught immediately.

Decent game muddied by West Coast US culture

The gameplay is alright. Not catching my attention but I am playing since they just released Mecha Corrin (wallet forgive me for I have sinned…). Also nice that it has dual audio. Also very nice that they forgoed the gacha monetization model However I have to play battles to accumulate currency to read through the story. But the story starts off nonsensically with the heroine masquerading as a male (alright) but also a royal family member and the king’s sole surviving heiress. Cool. But the she has a fiancée who is also royalty and is aware of her masquerading as a boy. Okay no, do these writers know anything about legacy? Familial responsibilities? When you are born in such positions where other people, an ENTIRE POPULATION rely on you, you make choices at the sacrifice of your own personal needs and desires. Maybe this relationship will be explored that gives me confidence and excitement but it is not giving me the motivation to want to play more. But cute waifus and a prospective son of Ashnard getting a beast form that would make his pops proud just might keep me around. We will see.

All in all the game is solid. Good game play and feels like a strategy game despite the auto fight. Tho the game play is repetative and a bit boring. I hope they had a sorta “co-op” dungeon mode. For friends to play 3 players, vs 5 hard levels. And at the end a random npc to fight as a boss. Other then that im only giving 3 stars because being the shadow is eather to easy, or imposible. The triangle damage system kinda gives tomuch power. If i play ref shadow and BOTH of the light are using blue damage spells? Im just kinda dead. Fun but deeply flawed

Fire Emblem Shadows is a 2v1 auto-battler using a rock-paper-scissors damage system. The story and content are currently quite sparse and can be finished within 3 weeks of playing just the 4 matches a day asked by the battle pass. The monetization isn’t overbearing, consisting of a battle pass that lets you unlock an extra character, palette swap skins, and the ability to skip levels on your characters. However, the balance of abilities is very bad. There is a small pool of abilities that are necessary to be viable and no space to experiment with others once you have those. The shadow team players can also use equipment to be able to one-shot light team players built to maximize their health when the shadow player is only one level higher.
