Great community!
Updating my review as the devs not only responded but also fixed a lot of what I mentioned! Speaking of the devs, I do love how involved with the community feedback they are and how they are doing their best to deliver :)
Ugh
root was almost great. it was almost good enough to replace discord. it was comforting to know my privacy would be safer here and not handed over to any AI or any other person/place that may invade my privacy. however. i have been using the app for months now and nothing has improved at all. i still cant send SHORT photos/videos/files to my friends. hardly anybody is here. there’s no public servers or bots to customize your server with. this app may be fine for you if you lack personality or just looking for a simple, basic messaging app. but to me it’s been a complete waste of my time and i almost considered going back to discord if it weren’t for them forcing AI and personal identifiers against us. what a massive letdown.
BIG potential
First of all this is a great alternative for chatting. Just a few things, i noticed you cant disable streams, which is whatever not big issue to me. On the other hand i cannot hear on mobile. When i join the audio comes thru the phone and not the speaker. Not only that but the audio cuts out after a second and I’m no longer able to hear. Unfortunate, but love this app otherwise.
Continual issues
Sometimes messages don’t send. Sometimes it’s images. Sometimes it won’t even let you know when you e been messaged; either way, Root is a grab bag and I hope it improves….
Mais ou menos
Substituem o outro app, só que é bem mais ou menos
call problem
great app and all but when i call my friend i can't hear her at all can u fix this bug please?
discord aint ever getting replaced
Love it but
I heavily enjoy the app since everything is quite simple and not to bad to navigate but I do wish special characters could be used in channel names like these ꧁ I think it adds nice decor, also the banner for accounts often squish the image I'm using or just look off. Everything else is great though ^_^
Lacking in Accessability Features
I think this app is good in construction and is similar to another application. However I think you’d be able to get more consumers interested if you added certain Accessability Features.Like for instance make the app compatible to that of Voice Readers and better usage on Mobile. I’ve heard that it’s better on an actual Computer. However it’d be best if both Computer nad Mobile was ssync’d up to be the same on both ends. I’m Blind nad so I always look for apps which have compatibility with that of Voiceover or that of Screen Readers.
Better than Discord
Switched over from Discord after their lack of data integrity and their “nickel and diming” nature for some as simple as changing the font of your name. Root has been great and it also has a bright future. Hoping it continues
Bad
Glitchy, drops calls randomly, and sometimes can’t join a call.
Needs some work
I like the app so far, but sometimes me and my friends are having issues not hearing each other sometimes, streaming is all kinda of laggy, And I’d like to have soundboard options. And RPC for games
App has some problems
Every time I click on a video it kicks me from the call and when ever someone is sharing there screen we can’t turn it off or turn the sound down on the phone app
So much potential
I used the app today since DC was down and my group created a server on here as backup. When I first arrived, it seemed really nice. But shortly after I noticed that I wasn’t receiving any chat notifications from the channels. I did some searching online and found that this is not a feature in Root. I think this is a major flaw and the developers of the app should integrate these notifications with an option to turn off or mute.
Great
Amazing worth the try and really recommend it.
Just copy discord
Literally do what discord does, how hard is that? and just keep the good audio quality. I swear people constantly try to remake the wheel when it already works. Just figure out how to make it better without changing the fundamentals. Like why can’t I stop a livestream in the app?? Why do I have to mute the person but the stream keeps going. How hard is it to simply put a x at the top of the video so I don’t have streams constantly playing in the background
A solid foundation with potential
I would love to get notified when people text in the group channel. The option to receive all notifications would be nice.
A good alternative with a cost.
For starters the app itself works, well enough. It’s a bit slow, clunky, and such. But If you are obsessed with leaving discord for whatever reason then it’s likely your best option. One thing I unfortunately cannot omit from this review is it’s current state, especially compared to Discord. Mind you this app is still in its infancy so it may be unfair to critique it too early but either way it has issues. For starters the UI is noticeably worse, overall being more clunky, certain features you’d expect like nicknames are absent, bugs litter it like on mobile I personally cannot full screen the screen shares of others, and I’m sure there is more jank to be had, overall I would say this add can have potential, but as of current it’s too underdeveloped to really be a completely viable replacement or contender as much as a side grade or temporary fix.
Needs work
The app has a lot of bugs and glitches, slowly they have been getting less and less so I feel they are working on it. I have been on many different community apps and I have to say this is the worst, when it comes to ethics. Their directory with ratings of the communities is inaccurate. I have personally watch them remove negative reviews that are true. Hopefully this is just a hiccup and there ethics get better with time.
Amazing
It’s so nice to have an alternative to discord that allows me to send images and videos without needing a subscription. It’s also really user friendly when creating servers and editing them.
Kicked out of my account
I got logged out of my account, and now I can’t get back in. I tried to reset my password, and I’m not getting the email for the stupid verification code. I checked my spam folder, and nothing is there. It also takes like 5 minutes to load the security verification. Please fix this!
Amazing app
Works amazing. By far the best discord alternative out there. I do wish it had more features like video chat and notifications for servers. But they are minor issues.
It’s good but could be better!
Root is pretty bare bones but it’s alright for an alternative for chatting and actually respects user’s data. A few suggestions I would like for the app is more customization! Like bio’s and/or a personal status. Another thing that would be nice is to add custom emojis for people in a server to use
Almost perfect for me
Just work on the screenshare quality and we are good
The best discord alternative
That’s all

pros, cons, suggestions
so i would like to say right off the bat that i came from discord like many did. my biggest issue has been these things: a. it constantly crashes or prevents me from typing altogether. i will be typing, backspace, and suddenly i cannot type at all until i completely leave the app and then return b. you need to improve the streaming quality or release a pro version so that we can support you guys and obtain better streaming. i have been going back to discord just to stream for my friends bc they cannot see anything through root's screensharing, just pixels. c. you cannot make server templates to make servers pre-formatted unlike discord d. there is no forwarding messages or voice chats. also, photos will often not send or go through as well as videos being capped at like .. 40s? e. there is no hiding images or text. this proves helpful for example if my friend sends pics of his waifu while i'm in public. no one needs to see that. please add this feature. now, the pros: - root has never given me issues connecting my razer headset like discord has - i absolutely love the browser-esque tabs (it'd be really neat if we could color those tabs) - i love how channels can be given little icons as well as a small description (newbies to discord or even newbies to particular servers get confused what certain channels are for so this is VERY helpful!) - there is no subscription just to change your banner and use emotes (always thought those were basic app features that should NOT be charged for) - the devs consistently update! i had issues before that aren't mentioned here bc they were resolved so quickly. for example, screensharing wouldn't work for me at all and within a day or two there was an update and it seemed to be resolved. - pleasant ui that i think is easier for first timers not already programmed with discords ui! it took me some time but now i fully enjoy it now that i understand where most things are and how they work - i have experienced zero censorship on this app unlike discord
Its a good alternative to discord, but with one issue
Its very similar and a good alternative, seems very promising, but the video chat quality is not so good
Solid choice for now
Solid choice for now but needs some features added. Needs: 2FA Auto Moderation of some sort (bot would be acceptable) Notifications on joins and leaves as well as ability to set a channel to receive those
Love it
I’m gonna say it again I love it
Logged me out out of nowhere
The app suddenly decided to log me out today after using it a couple of hours earlier. I only found out because when I received a message a minute or two ago and tried to look at the message and root prompts me to log in. I never logged out, it just automatically did it for me and yet I still receive notifications of new messages despite being logged by by the app ??? I’ve been using root for a couple of months and it was an okay experience until this happened.
Some suggestions
Unsure if any of this stuff is in the process of being added in the future or not or if some of it does exist and I’m just too new to where I haven’t figured it out yet but I’d to see a feature added where we can have reaction roles aka self assign them to ourselves in servers and a feature where we can include emojis in channel names and be able to rearrange the channels or categories in a server
Please allow for symbols in channel and community names
I want to make a community that’s exclusive to people who want to read and write in wingdings (☨♓︎■︎♑︎⬧︎♓︎■︎♑︎⬧︎) but I can’t even write the channels names in the font we’ll all be using. I’ll give a much higher rating once we can freely name channels, and when custom emojis are added.
Root is a great discord alternative
I literally use this every day now and the apps are a new idea overall and theres no builtin AI features which I love! ^^
Flat out doesn’t work
App logged me out and isn’t letting me log back in, I’ve changed password but it still won’t let me. This problem is happening to my friends as well. Why have an app that doesn’t work
Almost 5 stars
Right now notifications don’t work at all for me on my iPhone 16. Not even @ mentions in dms. Please fix this, otherwise I’m loving this discord alternative!!!
great but IT NEEDS MIC PERMISSION
dev i cant speak in voicechats in ios, it wont give me the option to
Great root gaming app, great graphics, and easy to use
Great root gaming app looks great. They said they have great graphics and it is easy to use.
So many problems
It keeps saying error for changing user even when its not taken, its slow, laggy its just the worst app i ever used
PLEASE ADD VOLUME/SOUND CONTROLS TO STREAMS
I just downloaded the app to try it as an alternative to discord and it seems simple and way less bloated than discord, however one big issue I noticed right away is that there are no voice/volume settings for when I am in a call. A friend was streaming a game and I was on my phone (iPhone) but I could not hear anyone talking while they were streaming the game because the volume was so loud. I couldn’t leave the video or stop viewing it any way, nor could I turn the stream volume down/off. I also noticed I couldn’t edit my microphone settings at all. I know this app is in its infancy, I have high hopes, but PLEASE add some sort of volume settings for iPhone!
This is my discord replacement
This app is amazing my friend got hacked from discord and this was a great app to be his replacement I suggested it to my other friends thank you for making this
Won’t even let you register
It’ll tell you the username is taken, but still registers your email so that you can’t log in with your username or register again. Then you ask it to send it an email, and it doesn’t send anything. Maybe it’s my Gmail, I don’t know. If you’re looking for a discord replacement, this isn’t it.
Solid Start
This is a solid base to build on. Going to be moving my communities from Discord over to this. My biggest complaint is when using a bluetooth keyboard on my iPad, pressing the enter key doesn’t send the message, it just drops down to a new line. This is suuuuuper annoying. Please fix that asap.
