good job guys
great app
Terrible
Waited a month for my account to be approved only to be told no and there is no support or easily available help.
Mechanical Issues
While it is mostly good, the app has the problem of immediately undoing your editing with the back button, which is a nuisance. There are also some problems with editing where it doesn’t sync up to the site.
Please update this to iPad
on iPad the guest button is completely inaccessible. The font is so small on iPhone, please make the font customizable. Now you can’t use online tvtropes with adblockers on. Thanks a lot. When you search for something pass the first search, it always zooms in max for some reason. Now the pages turn complete white when I exit and return to the app. Really big bugs you haven’t touched yet.
Index arrows nonfunctional
When trying to navigate the index namespaces/main tab, the next page arrows do not respond to input, and when the textbox is open to put in a page number, the page will not change.
Thumbs up
It’s so nice to have a dedicated TVTropes app.
No one is paying for tvtropes
A subscription model, get out of here
Love the site, app needs work
The app is great because it hosts all of the content of the site however, all of said content is a little harder to navigate paired with a buggier ui. Would love to see this app get the care that it needs, great otherwise.
I love it! But using it is so much work
Emotional rant and complaints: (see bottom for blunter problems and solutions) The problem is, when i want to keep a trope to remember or look back onto, i only have the choice to like. The problem is i can not have any sections or categories yo put the trope in. It would be great if i could even put the one trope in multiple sections. The next issue is-since there's no catagories, i can't have a clear view of the vibes. I'll have one mission or idea, and scavenge the site for anything that related or can grow on that idea. But once im done with that mission... damn, deleting those liked tropes to ho to the next hyperfixation is exhausting. Even if its two pages of tropes, i have to delete each trope one by one. Click, click click slide click click click click swipe- oh i accidentally clicked on the trope that i already removed. Click. Click. And four more clicks. To put it bluntly, without the first draft personal emotional response: 1) i would love to see an option to add tropes to little files, like a trope, have an option to put it in a personal playlist of sorts. 2) Having the ability to add liked tropes to more than one said "playlist." 3 Having the ability to multi-select liked tropes to delete them, without having to click onto its profile individually to delete.
Needs Work
I like it. It’s easy to use, but could use some fine tuning here and there. One bug that’s been bothering me is how the app annoyingly zooms in on the search bar whenever I search more than one term. I’d rly appreciate if you were to fix that.
Awesome app
Genuinely great app. Genuinely great site as well. I LOVE TV TROPES. Thanks to all the tropers who make this possible :)
Latest Update Breaks VoiceOver Support
I've loved this app since it came out, but am deeply disappointed in the most recent update. I'm blind and use the VoiceOver screenreader on my iPhone. After updating to Version 4.0 yesterday, I opened the app to find it completely un-navigable. None of the buttons were labeled. None of the tropes and categories that pop up when you open the app were clickable. When I tried searching, I was instead taken to a random trope page. I'll be contacting the developer about this.
Update the app or update the articles
It’s nice to have this app since my mobile browsers complain about blocking ads. But I want the articles to be updated over time.
It works, I guess?
It's a mostly functional app wrapping a web view, but I appreciate the effort and attempt at having a discreet app on my phone.
You’ll get lost on this, the good way!
This app is incredibly good for mobile browsing of the site, easy to navigate and understand. Their willingness to take feedback and suggestions to make it even better is wonderful, and you’ll easily lose time reading and researching your favorite media, fan works, and tropes. Just like the site already does!
App made for the sake of having an app
There is nothing that this app would do better than a website open in Mobile Safari. In fact, there are things it does worse — in a browser you can easily open several links if you want to read several articles; in the app, you can't.
Probably not that life ruining
only lost a few relationships from it, only kinda ruined my life, if it fully did i would rate 5 stars
Not letting see
I was look at at sections for characters but doesn’t let me see anything and I click it multiple times and reload it but it doesn’t work hope you can fix it soon
Great app
I previously left a pretty scathing review that I now regret. The recent updates have fixed all of my previous issues that I had with the app. This app is great. Way more convenient than using the website on the mobile browser. I’m sure future updates will continue to make the app even better. Keep up the good work!
But why ai though?
Would’ve used this if the shoehorned ai feature wasn’t thrown in your face at every opportunity. Absolutely unnecessary feature, it only makes the app look all the more unprofessional and sloppy.
Great: Needs One More Thing, Though
I love this app. It’s functional and great to use. The only thing that it needs, though, is a feature that will make the app be the same color as the phone. For example, if my phone is dark, then the app should be dark. It’s still a great app, though.
Good but definitely needs work
So, first off, the app doesn’t exactly work on IPad for some reason. It functions, but for some reason the app’s always in portrait orientation. When you switch to landscape, the app switches accordingly, but remains in a portrait layout. Secondly, This app is pretty much everything that the browser version does, but it seems less tailored to editing articles and more to just reading the wiki. I dunno if I appreciate that or not. As someone who has way too many story ideas in my head and not enough writing skills to make something with them, I think the AI story generator is a very good and appropriate function. But I ended up wasting my uses on experimenting with it. Just… as long as none of you implement an AI image/art generator. I might legit delete my TVtropes account if that happens.
Thank you!
I love TVTropes and the app makes scrolling through articles for hours even easier. Great update recently made lots of improvements! I’d love a “Save for Later” list type of feature.
Boo AI
I was so excited to use this and have a better experience of using TV Tropes on mobile. It’s a little bit worse than using the mobile web browser version, but I could chalk that up to growing pains. What I cannot abide is adding the AI element. What does this add? I will be uninstalling.
Great update
Was a bit dismayed at v1 of the app but the turnaround for this update (in specific fixing dark mode and removing AI from the tabs) has me hopeful. Good stuff gang. Maybe my only recommendation is take more inspiration from the Trope Reader app from Android back in the day. Plain readable formatted text is king
Missing data?
The app looks slick and works fine, but is it missing a lot of data? I have entered several search terms in the app and gotten no results found, but when I go to the website, it returns tons of results.
V2 is much better!!
So happy with the updates in V2. Looks so much better now. Loving the app!!!
???
you need to fire whoever suggested adding an “ai story generator” to this because they are extremely out of touch with the people who use the site. its frankly embarrassing and ruins a pretty ok app port with a very transparent attempt to hop on the current bandwagon that most people out of extremely pro ai groups are tired of and would have never in a million years be asked to be implemented.
Would recommend, but definitely still needs more time to blossom
I’ll keep this brief, so my apologies if this sounds vague. It’s really cool that TVTropes finally got an official app after so long, but I have a few criticisms of it (discounting the AI discussion). I use the app on my tablet and tilted full screen looks really weird. A link I clicked on crashed the app, although it could just be that one specifically. All in all I think after a few months this app will really look awesome, and it’ll be a great way to introduce new people to the site. Thank you for reading!
Decent set-up with lots of potential; searchbar is an abomination.
At its best, the app is preferable to the website on mobile on account of it not having annoying pop-up ads/video ads that interfere with consistent reading of the article. Unfortunately, this app is rarely at its best. The search-tool rarely works for me and consistently shows a “no results found” for media that definitely exist and have tropes pages multiple times, most often only being fixed by closing the app and reopening it. This makes navigation of the app fairly inconvenient.
Wow!
Awesome seeing the site in app form! Laying looks so cool
Do not download this trash.
Trash.
It was always going to end this way
I have way too many tabs open to TV Tropes as is, and I feel like an app is the only logical conclusion to “how far down this rabbit hole will I go?” 2.0 resolved my immediate issue with the app, being Night Vision functionality is working properly now. However, the one thing it’s missing is, well, tab functionality, or at least browsing history. Still, a fantastic start to an app I think I’ll be using more than I care to admit.
A clear work in progress with a good design
The app's GUI and design is actually great and honestly looks better than the website itself. However, the app is also full of bugs and crashes very often.
Not Bad
I’m glad to have TvTropes has an app, it’s a little clunky to use but other than that it’s nice to have this as an app
Say no to AI Slop
TV Tropes already had a story generator that worked just fine without generative AI, so to see them use genAI for the app’s story generator is sad. And the mods are being rude to users who have valid concerns about the usage of AI. AI does not promote creativity, it goes against the very concept of creativity. Is burning down the Amazon rainforest for a slop story generator really worth it?
Good but a little buggy at the moment
I’m excited that there is finally a TV Tropes app as someone who’s been using the website for years. However, while the app functions mostly fine, it is still a little buggy at the moment.
Dark Mode needs to be fixed
I concur with the other users complaints about Dark Mode not actually working. I’m very thankful there’s now a TVTropes app and the UI is very smooth! Just fix Dark Mode so it actually works and you’re golden
This App Will Ruin Your Life
Which one of you evil freaks decided tvtropes needed a TikTok scroll feed
Terrible
A fundamentally clunky app with tons of basic issues and obnoxious ad placement that makes it seem like it was made for corporate rather than passion. And if that weren’t bad enough, it uses AI. Do not download.
Great, but needs work
I am glad that this site has finally gotten an app for iPhone. But it needs a bit of work. In particular, I really prefer to read things in night mode. But even I activate night mode in my settings, the pages still show up as black text on a white background. Please fix this as soon as possible.
Needs more tuning
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy the TVTropes has an App, but it needs allot more updating, some of the video examples from the site aren’t even on the app, also the playtrack doesn’t allow the video to move the video to a different part, just reverts back to the original state, basically it makes you watch the entire video instead of wanting you to skip to the good parts, so I hope this gets fixed!
