I love it
Well, I’m having a problem. The app is not recording all my history. If I miss a day or two, then a bunch of my days disappear. This is very frustrating.
Glitchy
Not a good representation of James Clear.
Please make option to create habits without strict example
I just started using the app, which I like for simplicity, but one issue I am already dealing with is that when you want to create a habit there’s only one example of intention which impossible to change. You can only change name of the habit, time and location (which is also doesn’t work with everything, for example if I want to cut sugar, I just don’t do it, there’s no time or location). Then another part “I can become” also you cannot change, but not all habits are about me. I want to create a habit to spend quality time with my pet, but it’s not about who I want to become, it’s about health of my pet. Please give more options for different types of habits, thank you
Good idea, but…
The app will not let me log an activity when I complete it. I get a message box stating “Cannot log a future date.” Tomorrow is the future, not today. When I complete a task today, I want to mark it completed as soon as it’s completed, not wait till tomorrow morning to log it. Also, completed tasks that I have logged, randomly disappear from the calendar. For two of my tasks, the dashboard shows that I have x number of days that the task has been completed, but the calendar is blank. I like the idea, but the glitches are making me question whether to bother with the app, and I’m certainly not going to upgrade to a paid version.
Hmm not as good as I expected
If the free option proved to be helpful then I would invest but it is mediocre for me. Wish it helped though. Deleting the app after no real betterments for years
best app
Literally THE BEST app EVER!!!!
Stopped updating
Randomly stopped updating when I tracked my habits. I pay for this app so it would be super cool if you all could fix it.
Amazing app!
I really like it so far! One suggestion I have is that the app should give the user a choice of having a certain time because I like to be flexible. I hope this helps. 😊
SHUTS OFF AFTER A MONTH
I read the book and it helped a lot. I had heard that the author put the book everywhere to help the most people and that was very welcoming to hear. Being suddenly locked out and charged is NOT the principles the book taught, it is greedy scummy practices. I didn’t even make any account it just lied about the free capabilities until I’d been invested for a month. Growing as a person shouldn’t be a subscription. Shameful, I look at the book Atomic habits differently now and that’s such a huge let down.
Ok
It’s nice but today I went to log a habit but I couldn’t because it said I needed to pay which was disappointing. I still have one habit I can log but the other two I can’t and I’m not willing to pay for the app. So it’s great if you’re willing to pay.
I like it
I’ve been trying to use these apps I downloaded a lot more recently and stick with them so I can decide which one to pay for, I really like that each one, especially since it’s about mental health, are at least partially free.
Paid subscription
Downloaded the app made some habits and thought I wouldn’t have to pay a subscription. I was wrong. Read the reviews and I would need to pay to have more than one habit tracked. I’m cheap and not willing to pay for a checklist. 1 star for trying to rope me in and then cut me off. Also I feel like a habit app that genuinely wants to help people be better shouldn’t cost money to keep using. I’m willing to pay a one time fee but I hate subscriptions.
Excellent app
Just needs a dark mode please
I do like the book, but this app has so many design flaws
Hello James, I've read the book and I really liked it. However, this app is littered with design flaws I have to uninstall it: 1. Paid users can't create more than 6 habits. This is a pretty strange design. A paid user is supposed to create unlimited amount of habits and not get hard locked to only 6 habits. A paid user pays $5/month or $40/year just to create only 6 habits simultaneously? Other similar apps use hard limit to incentivize in-app purchase, not locking them down to a limited version. 2. Tutorials bombard a new user from the start. No one cares honestly. I just want a habit app that's simple and efficient and it works. It should give me several functions: it can create a habit; it can track a habit; it has a heat map; it can repeat itself in a way I like. Every single tab is pushed with prolonged tutorials on how to use the app properly whereas I just want a simple design that gets the job done. Yes, wisdom, yes, quotes. No one cares. A habit app needs to suffice some basic functions for user to want to use it. I'm on a free trial of this app and I don't even want to use it because I find it just inefficient and does not do the job well. 3. I understand this is a companion app for the book Atomic Habits, but honestly the app is so littered with unnecessary stuff and hardcoded limits it feels like a waste of time to use it. People use a habit app to record their habits and understand the patterns. Check out some competitor apps you'll see how they design their apps. A habit app is supposed to be simple, efficient, and gets the job done. If these metrics can't even be sufficed, there is no point in 7 tutorials on how to use the app properly and then some. Some tutorials even bugged out on my phone and I had to close them. 4. I have to input a specific time to a habit? And I also have to hard lock specific days in a week? Absolutely strange design. Let's just say repetition is supposed to be "any 4 days in a week". This is not selectable in the app at all neither can you create the pattern. I also don't understand why a specific time has to be put into place IN ORDER TO create a habit. You can assign a time later plus I don't hard lock a time to a habit I'll do but I do do the habit on the day when time frees out. What's great about the app: 1. Finishing a habit feels great. Holding the button and it registers as a completion does feel great. This is a great design. 2. I do like the quotes and wisdom baked into this app. When you build a habit alongside these wisdom quotes, it does stand out much more than other apps. However, if basic functions can't be sufficed, no amount of wisdom can save a dysfunctional app.
i WAS enjoying it
I don’t remember being told about the subscription, but I definitely am not going to pay for this because I was just checking off habits as if it’s the Reminders app. I think I would’ve considered not using the app much earlier so I guess that’s the trick, they want you to get used to it. but yeah, my criticism would be give me more clarity on the limits without the subscription beforehand cuz now I can’t check off ANY habit. It’s not like I’m trying to add more. guess i’ll download Not Boring Habita
Actually pretty helpful
I’ve tried a lot of ‘motivation’ apps but honestly most of them had a paywall. This app keeps its simple, but effective at the same time
No connection
Regardless of whether im on wifi or cellular, it keeps giving me “cannot connect “ errors
overall very good!
i like this app but it has issues and i can't really submit bug reports - the app team wants bug reports to be submitted via the app so they can check, but it would require me to get the gmail app which i do not want. i would change to another email because i do have outlook but...i can't change my email address in the app. for example, today i got a notification that i could save my streak for something i definitely checked off yesterday. not a huge deal but kind of annoying. it is VERY helpful overall but if they could let us change our email or have bug reports that do not require an email app to open it would be five stars.
Beautiful Wrapping for mid App
I love what the app promises and the design of it but the in application subscription is overpriced and both the free and paid tiers just don’t deliver enough.
Please add a lifetime subscription
I love this app, but the price is hard to justify. I would really love a one-time lifetime subscription. It’s leaps and bounds more expensive than any other habit tracker out there. I think it offers more value than other apps, but a lifetime subscription would make the pro version more accessible.
Amazing App!
I’ve only used this app for under a week, but I’m already feeling amazing progress in my goals! This app makes goal achieving actually feel like you’re making progress and gives a level of satisfaction when you are done with a goal! 10/10 app!!
Great app…. Horrible price
It’s a very well designed app however it is ridiculously expensive, £10 a month or £70 a year!!!! Way to expensive for something that other free apps can do 90% of what this one can
One star from perfect!
I have spent many years working on different habits, habit apps, and habit work flows, I’ve got to say this is the best app of them all and I’m not surprised coming from James’s mind. The only thing that’s stopping me from using this app full-time and giving it five stars is that of the ability to not import my habits from other apps, I have a running streak in one app for multiple habits and I would like to transition that over to Atom; streak and all. As soon as this is made available, I will be moving this up permanently. It is that good!
Way too expensive
Pay 40 dollars a year for 6 habits.
Prefer more habits
I wish we could add more habits than just 6. Some of us have a lot of change we need to go through in various areas of life so maybe 6/area would be better.
Exceptional!
Truly a great app for building habits, the book is also really good! :)
Don’t get sucked in unless you want an expensive subscription
It bothers me that this app was setup in a way to get you in the habit of making good habits, then after you do something ten times you can’t have more than a single habit without a subscription. I would gladly pay a one-time $20 for just the habit tracking, but that’s not an option. I can’t justify this kind of money for what boils down to a checklist app. Make the daily content be behind a paywall or something. I feel like this is manipulative from James Clear and I expected more.
Great app
I love the layout of the app, the colour choice and the daily insights are amazing. Too expensive though.
Not for me. Don’t like being on my phone and distractions. This is too much.
I personally did not stick to this. I wanted a simple checklist table like my printed spiral bound one. Just wanting a backup for times I didn’t have it on hand and didn’t want to forget to track. This app is overboard and could really be a time waster because of all the added features. I also don’t like the language when I’m adding habits to my list. I just want to type: “walk outside for 15 minutes” not “walk outside [insert time/location/so I can become x type of person]. Added features about your identity and whatnot are overboard. I really enjoyed Atomic Habits but this app just encourages wasting time on your phone which is counterproductive.
Great idea, but frustrating
2 complaints: 1) app will not allow you to enter history, so if you’ve been writing down your streak and stat using the app, you have to start over at Day 1. 2) MAJOR COMPLAINT: when you adjust/edit a goal, say from 50 up to 100 burpees, it won’t let you log THAT DAY!! You’ll have to resume the next day, still keeping your “streak”, but missing one day’s data. Not happy, James.
Great app
Easy to use, makes habits sticky and fun!
Does not work
I just downloaded this app, and it neither allows me to create an account nor create a habbit…
Love it but its limiting and expensive
I really like this as a habit tracker and a great follow on from the book. I just wished it didn’t limit you to one habit on the free version and 6 on the pro. It’s really quite expensive, these are the reasons I won’t be telling everyone about it when I really would want to otherwise as it’s got great potential.
Limited value compared to alternatives
This really doesn't need to be an app. If you're trying to reduce clutter, this goes the other way. Just read the good book and use any simple notebook app or whatever to keep track of habits. If you're going to install an app, at least have something that provides a useful service.
I wish I could track more than 6 habits.
I’m enjoying the app so far and I bought premium so I could track more than one habit. I’m a depressed someone trying to get in life in order by making a lot of very small changes—small as in going to bed and waking up at a certain time, making my bed, brushing my teeth, gym for 10 min, journaling for 5 min, reading 1 page a day, 15 minutes studying per day over winter break, etc. Problem is, the maximum 6 habits they give on the app isn’t enough to cover everything—forget about stacking. I hope they make it possible to track at least 15 habits in the future, which would make stacking and tracking everything in one place possible. Otherwise I may have wasted my money if I end up just using my planner or journal to track. Most planners don’t have large habit tracking spaces, and a journal isn’t as handy as an app, so this is disappointing.
Atoms
Enjoying the habit tracker so far
Horrible interface
Have you considered not having a pop up every 2 seconds
A bit too expensive for me
Nice to have a habit tracker and positive words from James but not really enough to make me pony up for the paid version.
Locked out of free version forever
I found this app fairly useful at first. I read James Clear’s book and appreciated his approach to motivation, and the app supports that. The 6-habit limit is annoying. Also, I had a paid subscription for a while and had to cancel it. In theory I should still be able to have 1 habit on the free version. However, I’m locked out of making changes to any of my 4 habits without paying them for at least another month. Free users should be able to archive habits when reverting from a paid plan instead of deleting the entire history—this disincentivizes me to come back later if I want to rejoin the paid plan. I deleted 3 of my 4 established habits but I still can’t edit my 1 remaining habit, view detailed history, or even mark it completed. It’s my habit for walking my dog, who is recently deceased, and I don’t want to delete these records of us spending time together. I guess the app is bricked for me now. I can’t recommend it to anyone. Find a cheaper option that is more considerate to users.
Great Habit Tracker app… but with with a major flaw
This app is really simple to use and a fantastic aide to developing new habits. It also has lots of material from James Clear’s Atomic Habits… one of my favourite self- development books. BUT there is a cap of only 6 habits you can be working on at any one time. It’s a major flaw and means I’m not sure it’s worth the money you pay for subscription. It’s a shame and I really hope they change this soon!
Amazing
Helps very well
Absolutely love the app but not worth paying
This app should be accessible to users like me who can’t afford a monthly membership but would benefit greatly from tracking daily habits as demonstrated in the app. Really didn’t expect it to be a money making scheme.
Amazing
Looks amazing. Well thought out. Does what it says it will. It lost one star because the formatting on some pages cuts off words.
Habit Stacking failure
This may be a niche complaint but this alone has made me delete the app. When habit stacking, if one of the individual habits in the stack is performed multiple times a day, the stack will not progress until that task is completed for the whole day. This means if you have a stack that involved you brushing your teeth (assuming you have it set to remind you twice; once in the morning, once in the evening), you would have to brush your teeth twice in one go to move the stack. This makes no sense as if i have a habit to repeat multiple times through my day i may want to create different stacks for the different times i want to use that habit. Another thing is the limit of habits. To limit the user to only six habits seems counterintuitive. I understand the logic of trying to keep things simple but it feels like a box to be forced in. Assuming most people with this app have read the book, like myself, we will know our limit on how many habits to create so it's a no for me. Still love the book and i'm appreciative of his work, but this felt like not all avenues were accounted for. Need more work from this app to make it worth my while
Disappointing and overpriced
It has a nice and well-considered design that's let down by a lack of basic features like dark mode and 24 hour time. It has a baffling need to be connected to the internet all the time to do basic tasks, so if you live in a city with patchy cell service like I do you're going to have a rough time. It also means the privacy of this app is a lot worse than it needs to be. I was willing to try it for a month, especially given the fact that other habit tracking apps aren't as carefully designed or geared towards self-actualisation goals like this is but the asking price is very out of line for what it is. It's a well designed app, but it's not complex at all.
Brilliant
It’s just enough information and helpful tracking tools to keep you moving but not glued to the screen. It’s a great coaching method and sets you on your way to better habits.
Not user friendly
If clicking multiple times just to mark off one habit as ‘tracked’ then this is the app for you. If you value your time however, then I would look elsewhere.
Great app. Cost of subscription is high though
Beautiful and gorgeous app. Thoughtful and very user friendly. Motivational and educational too.
Please read.
Dear Atoms Development Team, I really love what you're aiming for with this app; It's nice to get advices on helping you to commit to what you're aiming for, and it seems like a high quality app. However, I can't exactly get the advertised experince because whenever I open up the app and set up my first habit and press get started, it freezes. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that I'm using an iPad instead of an iPhone, but the bug still persists. I would be happy to give you guys 5 stars if you could fix this issue, if yall don't mind. Appriciate your work! - Adalia
Good but not great
After reading the book and making a plan for myself to start/stop some habits, I was excited to see this. It works well for some habits, but it’s frustratingly not well set up for others - for example you have to specific which days of the week you’ll do something, which doesn’t work well for something you just want to do once or twice a week (on any day). And it doesn’t offer a way to track commitment devices. For example, every time I eat sugar I’ll donate £1 to charity. You’d have to log this again as a habit you commit to every day, which would show as failure if you didn’t then do it, rather than success! But will see how I get on. Hope this feedback is taken onboard as it would be great to see those changes.
